Welcome to a brand-new season of The Ultimatum: Queer Love!
Remus Lupin has been with his high school sweetheart, Caradoc, for more than ten years. He is happy (he thinks) and, more importantly, he is comfortable. There is something wonderful about being known and loved by the same person for so many years.
Sirius Black knows he's bisexual, theoretically, but he's never put it into practice. He's been happy dating women, and happy dating Marlene McKinnon for a few years. But he's not happy to get married, not yet anyway. When the opportunity to explore, experiment, and publicly upset his awful family presents itself, he says yes.
They're both about to find out that sometimes love happens when and where you least expect it: on reality TV.

But then he catches sight of him, the stranger who's not a stranger at all. No, introductions won't be necessary. Remus closes his mouth, freezes mid-step, almost trips—would have if his cane hadn't been steady in his hand, prepared to catch his fall.
Sirius fucking Black.
Standing in the kitchen and looking every bit as infuriatingly beautiful as he had the last time Remus saw him.
He looks at Remus with those same piercing silver eyes, shaded under that same fucking cowboy hat.
"Hi," Sirius says, with a cocky and crooked grin, tearing his face in half. "Miss me?"
In the seven years since their band's final performance, Sirius Black's career has skyrocketed, while Remus Lupin is counting the days until his bank account dwindles to nothing. When an eccentric millionaire requests a private show on the remote Godric's Island, Remus can't say no.

When Remus apparates home after that terrible night in the Shack, he expects crowds with torches and pitchforks, his landlord with an eviction notice, or worst of all, his eternally disappointed father.
He does not expect his ex boyfriend, on his garden bench, patiently waiting to whisk him off to Spain for sun, adventure, and bird-watching.
He gorges himself on watermelon, keeps them both slattered in sunscreen, and forces Sirius to stay Padfoot far longer than strictly necessary. Along the way, he may learn a thing or two about what it means to let go, to love, and to belong.
For Old Dogs Fest prompt: after PoA when Sirius keeps sending Harry those letters using tropical birds, it's because he and Remus are taking a vacation somewhere warm for the first time in their lives, enjoying the sun and the beach

Too bad his former college nemesis and fellow author Remus Lupin lives right next door, just as surly and withdrawn as he remembers him being, throwing a wrench into all of his carefully laid out plans.
