Neelam Boyle is a woman without a history. One day she just came to be, wandering alone on a Rally highway. A year out of a psychiatric institution, she has made a life, and she still doesn't know who she is. She doesn't talk to many people, only a few friends and coworkers. Her job is a bore, and she's scared. her social worker says something traumatic happened to her.

Gura woke up in the early morning at their house by the sea. For a chicken—ahem—Phoenix, Kiara wanted to live near the open waters, saying that the sea reminded her of home. Which was ridiculous since Kiara is a bird, a lord over the air and seer over the land, Gura thought. She walks up by the shore, sharing a space with the sun peeking on the horizon.
"Are you still afraid of the ocean?" Kiara asked.
Gura looked beyond the horizon, "Maybe.,” then at the phoenix. "But it was home."
