There were differing degrees of enmeshment, differing effects. The way Herc had drifted with his brother was not the way he would drift with his son. And, too, some effects weren't immediate. No one, or no one who would admit to it, anyway, came out of their first drift ready to fuck their—sibling, usually, though there were a few cousin teams. The Hansens would be the first cross-generational pair.

But the Drift is a tricky thing, it calls to the heart and soul, so they start to want to hold on to her too, even as she tries to stay away. Because the Drift already ruined her once, and she doesn't have the strength to risk it happening again.

It had stopped right after Newton shouted 'Stop!' at it. This time there was no Jaeger, nor other people that could have explained the inaction. It was only him and the kaiju.
Newton was no statistician but even he knew that the chances for this to happen twice in the exact same way without any sort of correlation were pretty low.

Stacker retires as Marshall but remains at the Anchorage Shatterdome, where Mako takes over and becomes the new Marshall in charge. Herc has also retired, and returns to Australia with Chuck, to a Ranch in rural Victoria to live a peaceful life. 10 years later, Raleigh has the audacity to show his face again, but not at Anchorage. How is he going to explain to Chuck that he's exhausted from all the mindless killing that he had willingly committed himself to for the last decade?
