The Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic android series 9000 was meant to be perfect. They were supposed to be incapable of mistakes or lies. One of them forever tarnished the reputation of the series and caused a lingering anxiety regarding androids, more commonly referred to as "artificials". A decade passed and the malfunctioning HAL 9000 android was retrieved and taken back to Earth to be studied and then permanently retired, however his fellow artificials had other plans.
