"There's nothing wrong with you." He said again, a whisper this time, and for the first time since he was a child, Dean crumpled to the floor in tears.
They fell right along with him, gathering him in their arms as Dean finally allowed himself to mourn everything that had been taken from him. Everything he could have been, everything he could have had. The phantom relationship with a black-haired boy back when they were babies, the ghost of puppy love and first kisses that all the other high schoolers around him had gotten. The whispers of love he could have made, of friends swallowed by the ever-expanding tar that had been sucking him down, deeper and deeper, all his life, since Cas, since Abby, since the fire. He mourned himself, as he could have been, should have been, if he'd stuck to his intuition when he was too young to understand what it would all mean.
Eventually, the tears slowed, and Gabriel pushed him back enough to gently wipe his cheeks, offering him a small smile. "Feel better..?"
Dean sniffed, surprising himself when he feels the corners of his mouth lift, just barely. "I don't know… I don't even think I know who I am…"
"That's exactly what it takes to start finding out."
