Diventa conscio di tutto ciò che ha sbagliato nel vano tentativo di salvare la città, ma ormai è troppo tardi.
Eppure, quando Cobblepot preme il grilletto, Jim riapre gli occhi e si trova davanti al cadavere di Theo Galavan, con una pistola fumante in mano e la consapevolezza di essere, chissà come, tornato indietro nel tempo.
E al suo fianco c'è l'uomo che tra tredici anni lo ucciderà, con il quale ha appena commesso un omicidio...
Con la conoscenza di ciò che succederà da lì in avanti, riuscirà Jim Gordon a cambiare il proprio destino e quello degli abitanti di Gotham?Lo aspettano scelte sofferte che metteranno a rischio delle vite, ne salveranno altre... o le cambieranno profondamente.

“Tu non hai paura che io possa trasformarmi in una specie di mostro?” gli chiese Jim.
Oswald aveva visto le registrazioni trasmesse dai notiziari. Tutti le avevano viste o ne avevano sentito parlare. Erano solo le versioni più brevi e censurate delle cassette che Jim aveva dovuto vedere per intero, immagini che probabilmente non avrebbe mai dimenticato.
“Non succederà,” rispose Oswald, sorridendogli, e Jim non sentì alcuna incertezza nella sua voce. Oswald ci credeva davvero. “E, anche se fosse…” continuò, abbassando lo sguardo e accarezzando la mano sinistra di Jim, “potrai comunque contare su di me, sempre. Io non potrei pensare male di te e non avrei nessun diritto di condannarti.”
“Perché sei un beta…”
Qualcosa di triste velò lo sguardo di Oswald, ma fu solo per un momento, tanto che Jim credette di averlo immaginato.
“Mi rendo conto di parlare da esterno a queste cose, e di non poterle comprendere davvero,” disse Oswald, salendo con la mano lungo il braccio sinistro di Jim, “ma non era questo ciò che intendevo. La tua natura non ti rende un mostro, non basta questo. Per essere un mostro devi volerlo.”

Quando Jim vide Oswald camminare al piano di sotto, concentrato a parlare al telefono, non poté fare a meno di seguirlo con lo sguardo. Si sentiva attirato a lui come una falena dalla luce… e qualcosa nel suo petto spingeva perché chiudesse la distanza che li separava, una volta per tutte.

Oswald shook his head to recollect his thoughts, he stared on head first and with trembling hands pushed himself out of the chair. He walked to the direction of the boy, the boy gaining a few drops of sweat gathering on his forehead, he straightened his back and acted as if he was still focused on the crossword puzzle resting on the wooden desk, that a pair of glasses was also resting.
"what do you want Creepy?" Oswald asked bending over the table and crossing his arms on it. " it Belongs to you, but everyone else uses it." The boy asked him, as if he was pulling some lie out his ass. "My name is Oswald."

Plot: I've come across versions of this where the reader likes scary movies, but what about readers who are too scared by them?
Reader: gender-neutral (no pronouns), in a romantic relationship with the character 🥰Warnings: the reader watching a not described scary movie (except for Harvey Bullock's part, where the movie's described (a chase followed by a scene on a rooftop, from which a main character nearly falls down)) & in most cases being hesitant to voice their opinion about it (often has to do with the love-interest probably being used to horror, never with being afraid of their reaction). I wouldn't recommend this approach but I thought I'd write it in most cases to show how safe you'd be with the characters even if you didn't say something at first ❤
