  “Qifrey and I had sex,” Olly said, his cheeks reddening, his eyes on his breakfast plate. Alaira leaned forward with interest. “Finally,” she said with a grin, and Olly looked at her and slowly shook his head.

  “Olly and I tried to have sex,” Qifrey said over tea a few hours later, and Alaira remembered just in time to act surprised, but at least Qifrey didn’t bury the lead.

  “It was a disaster,” they’d both said to her, miserably, hours apart.
