Summary
Whatever world she had just stepped out into, she would make it hers. She would learn its language. It would become her kingdom, because the possibilities were endless now. And if death was around the corner, she’d just have to make sure it had been worth it in the end.
***
Thirteen-year-old Gotham runaway Hazel Laurie thought the demonic father the nuns warned her about had been a scare tactic to justify what they had done to her… until said demonic father pulled her into a dream and introduced her to the sister she never knew she had.
When she travels to California to meet her sister in person, looking for protection and—despite her better judgement—hoping for connection, she instead finds herself at the center of a metaphysical cold war that draws the attention of the Justice League and the Lords of Order.
Now mentally shackled to the sister who hadn’t wanted her, Hazel has to come into her own while dealing with magic homework, lessons in cynicism, cape politics, and cosmic lectures delivered by a shiny golden hat.

Summary
The more Hazel thought about it, the more determined she became. What was a little danger if the payoff was having parents who loved her unconditionally? A sister who actually wanted her? She had taken care of herself her entire life, always finding a way to make sure she had what she needed. This was no different, really.
***
Fourteen-year-old Hazel Laurie has spent a year studying magic at the Tower of Fate under the Nelsons’ guidance. Though she’s been cleared for practical fieldwork and is on track to becoming a respected sorceress, she remains haunted by the memory of her brutal, Trigon-orchestrated fight with her sister.
When Hazel discovers an opportunity to build the family she’s been denied, she jumps headfirst into stupid—and lethal—situations to make it happen, repeatedly forcing said sister to break their unspoken agreement to just be dead to each other.
On top of the familial drama, Hazel has to navigate the mortification of her first crush, the complexities of working with other magic users, and the irritation inflicted upon her by a certain overstepping acrobat whose default settings seem to fluctuate exclusively between “mildly annoying” and “outright infuriating”.
