The man observed his face carefully, clearing his throat. “Well, we are also hiring elves.”
Alhaitham burst out laughing, avoiding Kaveh’s death glare and elegantly dodging a kick to his knee.
”It would be fun for you to do it together, no?” the man insisted, plastering on an artificial smile. “You could be Santa to make your elf friend company.”

“Listen, Haitham, I know what you’re gonna say! But hear me out. She can sleep out in the garden. Or in my room, so it won’t bother you at all! I swear she’ll be fully under my responsibility. I promise I tried to leave her behind, but she totally insisted on coming with me! Followed me all the way home, just because I gave her some water. The poor thing was so thirsty.”
Alhaitham blinked, sighing deeply. The shock had mostly worn away: ridiculous as the situation was, it was actually quite in line with his roommate’s usual behaviour.

“Why do you have to curse me at all?” he groaned.

“And how do I get my hair back?” he asked, desperately tugging at the luscious locks still framing his face.

When Sethos left the class, the two were arguing again, this time about which textbook would be best for the class. Their altercations hadn't really stopped at any moment, because every time Professor Thoth asked a question, Kaveh's hand shot up while Alhaitham leisurely raised his, and they each confronted each other's points in increasingly passive-aggressive language.
They hated each other's guts, and it was frankly hilarious. Why they sat right next to each other would remain a mystery, but Sethos guessed that it was probably to amp up the tension.
