And, for some reason, thinking of her—the way she carefully nurtures her plants like they're her children, how she smiles when a phight goes as planned, the fact that she gets so defensive when you try to tear down the walls of her dignity and see what she keeps underneath—made it worse, as you end up running out of air and wheezing while trying to get these damn things out of your throat. What the Hell is going on?
Scythe contracts Hanahaki due to how often Vine Staff invades her thoughts. Instead of doing the smart thing and getting surgery, she uses this as her opportunity to push herself and finally get what she wants: her feelings returned.
