Summary
First Enchanter Irving of Kinloch Hold groomed his successor with the skills to command and control a Circle of Magi, and when the Fifth Blight called he used those skills to save both the realm and himself. As his king's best friend and slayer of his enemies, Arl Soren Surana of Amaranthine is a ruthless general, a respected war-lord, a feared archmage, and holds one of the richest noble seats in the country in his scarred hands. Why should the Warden Commander of Ferelden care that there's a dirty Tranquil scurrying in the bowels of his keep? With his flat voice and sundered soul, his magic and mind broken by the brand between his dead eyes, there's no reason to pay attention to him. Just ignore him. Make him go away. Get rid of him.
The Archmage will do anything to get rid of him, even if no one in his inner circle can understand why.

Summary
Jeevan "Jylan" Ashera spent six years as an apprentice in the Circle of Magi, died, and then served two more as one of the Tranquil. Over the next eight, he escaped the Annulment, gave himself to the Formari Guildsmen, and passed into the hands of the Grey Wardens of Ferelden, where his brother finally found and freed him. But what does that mean, for someone who wants nothing? What does freedom mean to someone too stubborn, despite the brand, to accept it?
Ten years is a long time to stay dead. And sixteen is harder to reconcile with brothers and sisters and neighbors who know only toil in the slums of the Gwaren alienage. It's a good thing the Tranquil is not susceptible to their discouragement, and that his big scary war dog has a bite much worse than his bark. The Maker made him a Mage, the Chantry made him a Tranquil, but if becoming a problem is the only way to fix this broken family, then he doesn't need hate or hope or love to get it done. He just needs to fix it.

Summary
Neria Surana fled the Fifth Blight as a child and wound up in the vice-like arms of a Dalish Clan. She's since done everything she can to make a new life for herself without them, up to and including abandoning her home in the Gwaren Alienage. To save her young apprentice and his beloved uncle Neria will need the help of an Antivan Assassin and the Grey Wardens of Ferelden, but why would the Commander of the Grey help her, an apostate witch?
Neria must cross the Brecillian Forest in winter, enter the Arlath'vhen with a naked face, open her heart to the stranger with her father's name, and finally make her way home. She is the Hearthkeeper, the so-called Blessed of Sylaise.
The Archmage abused the Tranquil; the Tranquil fled with the Hearthkeeper; and now the Hearthkeeper must reconcile them not because she wants to, but because none of them will survive the Arlath'vhen without her.
