Has a work of Fanfiction ever won a Pulitzer? Have they ever nominated Minecraft Youtube RPF to win a prestigious creative writing award? If not, I suggest they start now. God, this fic hits different when you're closer to Flux's age than Sidefall's. Your writing somehow always manages to trigger a structural realignment of what I think is possible in a fanfiction. Objectively i think it's fascinating (and fantastic!) that this is about CC's who are, irl, in their 20's and just barely past adolescence themselves. It's so fascinating, how this story plays with time and identity and love and becoming. Look, i took a walk after reading to try and gather my thoughts and clearly it didn't cohere totally, because now you've got me writing formless poetry in an ao3 comment. Suffice to say I enjoyed it very much.
Parts I loved: Flux's strained relationship with his nephew. The scene with him teaching Sidefall to drive. (Do you think Flux IRL knows how to drive? much to consider...) How pretentious Flux is and how Saps loves him utterly for it. The realness of their banter and fighting. Flux's fears of becoming his father. That scene where Flux reflects on his entire life, all the love and all of the regret, just hits like nothing else. Oh, and all the Saps thirsting, I approve. The tomatoes in the garden, so abundant despite every effort to pare them back, the stain from the sauce Saps made on the countertop, the abundance of their love, the marks it leaves, love as conscious choosing, again and again and again. My god. Love is all around us. Life is worth living. I need a cigarette. Thank you for writing as always <3
