“And how old were you when you met Pepper?”
“Not until I was thirty-four,” he said with a sad smile. “Honestly I had given up on ever finding her, and my life was just a long string of bad decisions at that point.”

This is a story I’ve been wanting to write as a companion piece (as a prequel) to From the Same Star and Cracks in the Soul (which is still ongoing), which are both set 9 years later than this.
