Sofia, Amber, and Cedric finally caught up with Princess Ivy. After cleverly tricking the singing dragons into revealing her location, the trio rushed to stop her before she destroyed the amulet.
The moment Ivy heard them approaching, panic set in. It felt far too much like the time her sister and the guards had captured her and stranded her on that island. In her frantic escape, she lost hold of the amulet without even realizing it. Determined not to be caught again, she fled as fast as she could. It wasn't until she was far from the dragons that she realized the amulet was gone.
“Ugh! I can't go back for it now! I've got to get out of here—and I still need to make Enchancia my kingdom!” she muttered as she made her quick escape. This time, though, she was calm enough to leave a special surprise for those pesky princesses. The dragonfly transformed into an exact copy of Ivy herself! With a smirk, she vanished, knowing the decoy would keep them occupied while she carried out her plan.
Meanwhile, the princesses and the sorcerer finally located the amulet, which had slipped into a narrow crack. “Maybe Mr. Cedric can use a spell to get it out?” Sofia suggested, but Amber shook her head.
“No, Sofia, I have to get it back,” Amber said firmly. “Using magic won't undo the curse. Give me a second.” The pretty blonde princess began to think, pacing for a moment before snapping her fingers. “Yes, that should work!” she exclaimed, without explaining further. Reaching into her long, silky locks, she pulled out a hairpin—small enough to slip through the crack and hopefully retrieve it.
“Okay, here goes nothing!” she muttered, sliding the hairpin into the crack and fishing for the amulet. “Oh, come on! Got it—no, lost it! Okay, deep breath... almost there... GOT IT!” she cheered as she successfully pulled out the amulet.
“Way to go, Amber! You did it!” Sofia exclaimed.
Cedric stood beside her, clapping. “Very clever, Princess Amber! I didn't know you had it in you!”
Amber blushed at the compliment, but soon realized what needed to be done to break the curse. Taking a deep breath, she approached her sister with the amulet in hand.
“Sofia, I'm truly sorry for taking your amulet. I told myself I was borrowing it, but I wasn't—it wasn't mine to take. I'm sorry,” she said, handing it over.
Sofia slipped it back on with a smile. “Thank you for returning it, Amber. I appreciate both the gesture and your honesty,” she replied as the sisters embraced in reconciliation.
Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out, “Well, I see you two have made up. That was pretty sappy, by the way. But you haven't caught me yet!” chuckled someone from the shadows.
“Huh?” Everyone turned to see Princess Ivy standing at the mouth of the cave. “IVY?!” they all cried, as she smirked and called, “Catch me if you can!” before dashing off with the others in pursuit.
“I don't get it, Sofia! I thought you said she'd be sent home once my bad deed was made up for!” Amber panted as they ran after her.
Naturally, fancy gowns and heels aren't exactly ideal for chasing someone, so they were all quickly running out of steam. Forced to stop and catch their breath, they paused for a moment. Between gasps, Sofia managed to say, “I… don't… kn… know… why… Ivy… isn't gone! This has never happened before!”
Another sinister laugh echoed in their ears as Ivy came into view, looking ready to take them out of the game. But just before she reached them, an iron frying pan smacked her square in the face, sending her to the ground. They all looked up to see a stunning girl with green eyes and incredibly long blonde hair grinning.
“That felt good!” she giggled.
Everyone gasped, “Princess Rapunzel?!”
“Yep, that's me,” she said, flipping her long braid over her shoulder. “You know, appearances can be deceiving. What you think is the truth can be twisted. Take this so-called Princess Ivy,” she added, pointing at “Ivy,” who was slowly fading into a lifeless dragonfly.
“It was a magical decoy! That's incredibly hard magic to pull off!” Cedric admitted with a hint of envy.
“Decoy?” Sofia asked, puzzled.
“He means that wasn't the real Ivy. But if that one was fake, then where's the real one? I mean, she wouldn't leave a decoy unless she was still around here, right?” Amber reasoned.
The girls quickly turned to Cedric, who looked just as clueless as they were. Still, he wanted to try to be helpful.
“Sofia, mind if I take a look at your amulet for a moment? I promise I'll give it right back. I just need to study it for a bit.”
“Okay,” she said, unclasping it and handing it over. Cedric carefully examined the amulet, trying to recall what he'd learned in school about magical artifacts.
Then his eyebrows shot up as he realized what was going on.
“Merlin's Mushrooms! Of course! I should've realized it before! Everything magical has a natural limit. No one knows how far the Amulet of Avalor's magic can extend. However, I think it's reasonable to assume the real Princess Ivy is out of range for the magic to send her home! That's why she's still here!” he concluded aloud.
“Out of range? Well, do you know how close we have to be for amulet magic to work?” Amber pleaded.
Cedric shook his head. “No, nobody really knows much about the origins of the amulet, let alone what its limits are.”
“Then what can we do? We've got to stop Ivy!” Sofia was nearly bursting into tears.
“Um, if I may make a suggestion?” Rapunzel said softly, drawing everyone's attention. “When it came to my magic, Gothel had to physically touch my hair to stay young. I'm not sure about the amulet's limits either, but I'd guess we need to be pretty close. I can't say the exact range, but I'll do everything I can to help send Ivy home. So, are we all in?” she asked, and everyone nodded.
They quickly enlisted the singing dragons for a ride, trying to figure out just how close they needed to get to Ivy. Cedric and Rapunzel were chatting quickly about magic, tossing around educated guesses about what they might need to do next.
Meanwhile, Sofia and Amber spoke in hushed tones about what had started the whole mess in the first place. Amber had apologized, but that alone wasn't going to mend their relationship. She tried to hide behind her hair as she began, “Sofia, I'm really sorry again for what happened. I shouldn't have let my jealousy get the better of me,” she admitted, brushing away her tears.
To Amber's surprise, Sofia replied, “Amber, please don't beat yourself up so much. I should've understood how you felt too.” She took a breath. “I should've cut you some slack. We've both made mistakes, and, well, we're just kids.”
“But Daddy says age doesn't excuse actions,” Amber reminded her.
“No, but what I mean is I should've realized I could've made the same mistakes if our roles were reversed. If we stop Ivy, maybe—just maybe—we can figure out how to fix both our mistakes?”
“Princesses, Enchancia is on the horizon!” Cedric called over his shoulder.
“Oh my…” Amber and Sofia gasped, seeing how far the discoloration had spread across their kingdom.
Even Rapunzel looked unsettled. Her world had always been bursting with color! Still, the magical princess scanned the scene, trying to figure out a way in without being noticed. Years spent in a tower had sharpened her ability to assess things from above, and with her keen eye for detail, she pointed toward a small tower at the far end of the castle.
“I think we should head into that attic and work our way down to see if we can find Ivy!”
As she unbraided her hair and snapped it out until it tied around the metal rod, she gestured for the others, and they all quickly wrapped themselves around Rapunzel's hair. Then they started swinging to the attic. The sisters laughed while Cedric was screaming like a little girl. Finally, they landed, and with a quick unlocking spell, they were inside the castle attic. As Rapunzel quickly braided her hair back up, she looked at them all.
“Okay, any suggestions?”
“Well, I'm guessing my amulet will react somehow if we get close enough to Ivy,” Sofia said, gently cupping the precious charm in her hands.
“Wait,” Amber cut in, “let's split into two teams. If Ivy even suspects we're here, she can't be in two places at once. One team can patrol and create a distraction, leading her toward Sofia so she gets within whatever range we need.”
“Great idea, Amber. You and Rapunzel stick together, and Mr. Cedric and I will team up. Let's try to lure Ivy to the garden where I was playing hopscotch.”
“Good idea, Sofia!” Amber replied as they all nodded and split up to search for the two-tone princess.
Eventually, Amber and Rapunzel found Princess Ivy, surprisingly, in Amber's own bedroom. From Princess Ivy's muttering, it seemed she had mixed up Amber's and Sofia's rooms.
“If Ivy's here wrecking my room and all my tiaras, she's still not close enough for the amulet's magic to be triggered,” Amber whispered to Rapunzel, who nodded.
“Hmm, I think there's a way to get her attention and lure her into the garden, where she'll have to be close enough,” Rapunzel said, her green eyes gleaming with mischief.
“How? Wait, why are you unbraiding your hair?” Amber asked, confused, her eyes widening in shock as her favorite princess smacked the evil princess on the butt and laughed.
Ivy had no clue who Rapunzel was, but she wasn't about to let her and Amber get away with trying to steal her dignity. Fuming with anger, she shouted, “You'll pay for that!” just as she prepared to give chase.
Rapunzel scooped Amber into her arms and used her long hair like a rope to swing ahead. Amber kept guiding Rapunzel on where to go until they slipped through an open window into the garden. Ivy still hadn't disappeared, but that changed the moment she stepped inside. Sofia stood calmly by the hopscotch court, waiting.
To everyone's surprise and relief, the amulet began pulsing like a heartbeat until it grew so bright it blinded them all for a moment. Ivy's scream of “NO!” rang out as she finally vanished, and with her departure, the kingdom's color returned.
“She's gone, she's finally gone,” Sofia murmured before collapsing to the ground, drained, as if the amulet had taken some of her energy to work. Amber knelt beside her, holding her in a tight hug.
A few seconds later, Sofia's eyes fluttered open to find everyone smiling at her, with Amber still hugging her tightly. Realizing she was about to be sent home, Rapunzel turned to the girls and asked, “Want to know a secret?” They nodded.
“I've always wanted a sister. But if there's one thing I've learned from both of you and from my own wild adventure, it's that things work out best when you communicate your needs and learn to respect and trust each other. If I ever get a sister, I hope we can talk things through and find solutions whenever we fight, just like you two did. Gotta go, bye!” she said, disappearing.
“Hmm,” both sisters thought as they stood up.
“Maybe we can figure this out without hurting each other's feelings,” Amber said slowly.
“Yes, I think so,” Sofia replied, looking at her older sister. “Amber, I'll let you wear my amulet for one day.”
“Really?!” Amber exclaimed before realizing Sofia wasn't finished.
“As I said, you can wear it for one day, but only if I'm with you the whole time. You might not get a magical gift—it doesn't always happen.”
“But we'll still be together, and there's a chance something might,” Amber said hopefully.
“Exactly. So tomorrow, we'll share the amulet. Just for one day.”
“Got it.”
The next day was wonderful, with the sisters spending it simply enjoying each other's company while Amber wore the amulet. Nothing unusual happened, but as they rushed in for dinner, Amber gladly returned it as promised. The moment it rested on Sofia's neck, it shone brightly, and when the light faded, they gasped—now each wore a matching bracelet engraved with the words, “My Sister, My Friend.”
Tears filled Amber's eyes. The amulet hadn't given her a flashy magical gift, but it had given her something far more meaningful—a sign that she had made amends and grown. Sofia cried too, realizing the same truth. After all, for every deed, good or bad, a power is granted, a blessing or a curse. This time, it had honored their mended bond, and that was magic enough for them both.
