The doctor instructed Naoto to continue to push. The legs of her child were already out and it would only take a bit more time for the baby to be delivered. Kanji stood right beside her, letting Naoto atomize his hands with her grip. He had to endure, for Naoto and for their baby. Fighting shadows and gods was nothing compared to the fear and pain he felt in this moment. Naoto’s pained groans and yells filled the room and Kanji made sure to comfort her the best he could.
“And… congrats!” The doctor announced, handing the baby to Naoto, who gently held her beautiful baby boy.
Naoto studied her baby’s features with a weak, but warm smile. Although, there was something strange about her baby. He had a scar right above its left eye, piercings in its ears, and the little bit of hair it did have was blonde. This couldn’t be normal. She looked over to Kanji who was a bawling mess and even though he had left the punk life behind, an image of his rebellious self flickered over him, albeit a tad more confident. It seems that their little boy was going to be a lot like Kanji when he grew up, which was a good thing for the world.
Naoto gently tapped Kanji’s arm, “Would you like to hold him?”
Kanji tried to find the right way to say “yes”, but with his emotions at eleven he could only nod and hope that Naoto also nodded, since his vision was impeded by the waterfall of tears he was producing. As Naoto handed their baby over, she didn’t bother cleaning up his eyes. She didn’t want him to worry even more about her, but she would have to talk to the doctor soon.
Kanji let his baby boy wrap his arm around his pinky. The only words he could think of at the moment were, “I love you.”
