Work Text:
Maya Matlin was still in the empty classroom with Miles Hollingsworth. After letting out her anger by singing about wanting Zoey dead, Maya had felt better. Miles had really helped her feel better about this whole thing.
It was so unfair. Zoey had gotten off completely scott free for the cyberbullying. Maya’s mom had agreed with Zoey’s mom about not getting the police involved. This had made Maya really angry. This bitch had ruined her life, pretended to be her friend and then cyberbullied her, started the Facerange page and made her the school’s slut. Despite all that, her mom still felt that going to the police wasn’t the right answer, and why not? Because Zoey had said she was sorry? She had been caught! Of course she was going to apologize and do whatever she could to not get in trouble.
Did the rules just not apply to little Ms. Zoey Rivas cause she was a star on West Drive and almost everyone had loved her and her show? Is that why she was being given special treatment and basically getting away with murder?
Now Zoe got to go around, laughing and flipping her perfect hair like OMG! Maya felt like pulling out her own hair by just the thought of that. Not only was she very angry by all this, but she was also very hurt. She had been the better person and had offered Zoey friendship, but she had used this to her advantage to get revenge on her because she was still sour about Miles dumping her because he had feelings for Maya instead. As if people have a say so in who they like or don’t like.
Speaking of his feelings for her; they were mutual. She had began to like him too during their time in Paris. At first, she tried to fight these feelings and convince herself that she couldn’t stand him, and in a way, it was true. Well at first. Miles jumping in the pool that day to get back at his dad was a huge red flag for Maya. She couldn’t get involved in that, especially not after what happened with Cam and the fact that she hadn’t completely healed from his suicide.
Miles Hollingsworth the third was trouble. She could NOT fall for him. She wouldn’t. She had thought of him as a player and a jerk for leading on Tristan and just by making out with whoever, not caring who gets hurt, but Miles could also be very sweet and nice, the side which had drawn her closer to him. She was NOT falling for him…except…she already had. Oh boy.
Lately, Maya had been thinking about finally allowing herself to be in a relationship with him.
There had been other obstacles in the way as well though. The fact that Maya thought Zoey was her friend and knowing that she still liked Miles, Maya didn’t want to ruin her ‘friendship’ with Zoey.
Maya had believed that Zoey was going to be what Tori had been to her before she moved. Zoey also had some traits which were similar to Tori’s…except Tori was no evil, cunning, cold hearted bitch. Tori. Maya sighed as she thought of Tori. She really missed Tori.
She was snapped out of her thoughts by Miles when he broke the silence. “Maya, are you alright? You kind of spaced out.” His green eyes were full of concern.
She felt like she could just melt by looking into those Forest Green orbs of his. He was so sweet, so sincere and so kind and caring. “Oh no, I’m fine.” She nervously bit on one of her nails which had been a nervous habit she had for as long as she could remember. “I was just thinking.”
”About?” He asked.
”Well, I was sort of thinking,” She trailed off as she bit her nail again.
He chuckled a bit as he realized she was nervous.
“What’s so funny?” She asked.
”Nothing, it’s just-“
”I know. I usually bite my nails when I’m nervous.” She said, beginning to feel embarrassed.
”Well, you look kinda cute when you’re nervous.” He flirted.
She blushed.
”So what were you thinking about?” He asked.
She sighed. This is it. She thought. She was going to take the big leap in her relationship with Miles. Well maybe they could take things slow by like just hanging out as friends would. Maybe taking up on his offer of going to that Ed Sheeran concert with him. She just hoped she wasn’t too late and that he hadn’t already asked someone else to go with him. “Well, there’s not really anything keeping us apart anymore, is there?” She chuckled a bit before continuing. “I mean, Zoey wasn’t really my friend, and I think I might be ready to date again.”
His eyes widened as he heard this. He wasn’t expecting her to bring that up. Especially now of all times. Right now, he felt like the luckiest guy in the world, but first he had to be sure he wasn’t just hearing things. “Really?”
”Do you still have that extra ticket for Ed Sheeran’s concert?” She asked, thinking back to their conversation two days ago when he had asked her if she wanted to go with him. There were a million things that were preventing her from saying yes, but now there was nothing she had to worry about, especially not that conniving, backstabbing bitch, Zoey Rivas. As a matter of fact, the idea of seeing how upset Zoey would look when she found out that Maya would soon indeed be dating Miles. The idea of seeing the two together would surely drive her off the walls. Not only would Maya finally be able to take the chance of being with Miles, a boy she actually had feelings for, (unlike that tool, Harry, whom she had used to replace Cam), but it would upset Zoey in the process and that was a plus.
”There isn’t anyone else I’d rather go with than you.”
They shared a smile.
Maya remembered that Music Class was only an hour away and she was inspired to write a new song. It was similar to Undress Me, which would now forever be tainted, thanks to yours truly, Zoey Rivas.
”Music Class is in an hour and I have to write my new song.” She told Miles.
He stayed by her side as she got out a notebook and pen, and began to write her new song. He didn’t dare to leave her by herself, nor did he want to, especially after what had happened to her earlier when she was alone. If Miles hadn’t shown up when he did, God knows what would’ve happened. To keep himself from getting bored, he played the guitar. What he didn’t know was that this had gave her more inspiration about exactly what she wanted to write and she was already finished within fifteen minutes. She had about half an hour to rehearse her song and he handed her the guitar so she could begin her song.
He smiled at her the whole time in adoration as she sang. Pure admiration in his eyes and in his smile. She was definitely not like the other girls he had met before or hooked up with. Out of all the 50 girls he had briefly dated, had short flings with or a one night stand; they were all the same. No personality. All beauty and no brains. They only wanted him because he was hot and rich, but not Maya Matlin. No. She didn’t care about all that stuff and it was crystal clear. She called him out on his bullshit and she could careless about his money or good looks. Okay, she definitely did find him attractive but that didn’t mean she didn’t care about his personality or like when he acted out and toyed with people’s emotions.
Maya Matlin was actually the first girl he ever cared about; even before he barely knew her. He just knew that there was something different about her compared to any other girl. Something about her had stood out and at that time, he didn’t know what it was. Now he definitely knew. She was awesome, smart and talented in many ways that any other girl could ever hope to be, especially Zoey Rivas.
”So, what did you think, Miles?” She asked, breaking him from his train of thoughts.
”I think you are definitely ready to enlighten them.” He replied.
She smirked. She could barely wait to see the look on Zoey’s face, she could barely wait to finally be with Miles, she just couldn’t wait.
It was finally the moment that Maya had been waiting for. She watched as Zoe happily flipped her hair and smiled, talking inanimate with a dark skinned girl in a light blue dress in the seat next to hers.
”Okay, we have time for one song writing assignment.” Miss. Oh announced.
Maya quickly raised her hand. “Um, actually I wrote another song.”
”Alright, give it up for the prolific Maya Matlin.” Miss. Oh said.
Miles smiled as Maya got up from her seat and went to the front of the class, sitting on the chair before picking up her guitar.
”Okay, this song is about being ready to take the next step in a relationship and not having to worry about anything anymore.” Maya explained and she briefly shared a smile with Miles as she said this.
Zoey witnessed this and she looked hurt and confused about what was going on. Maya had even gave her a devious smirk after exchanging smiles with her soon to be boyfriend.
Maya looked down at the guitar in her hands and began to strum the strings. It sounded a bit similar to the Undress Me tune. Maya then faced the class and began her song.
That night when we first met
My heart really wasn’t ready yet
I had sounded the alarm
I really didn’t mean no harm
Just didn’t want to be unarmored
Just wasn’t ready for my heart to take a chance
Wasn’t ready for us to advance
Now I’m ready to give this a chance
My heart wants to move on
Give this a chance
No longer sounding the alarm
Give this a chance
No more feelings harmed
Give this a chance
No longer all armored
Give this a chance
Now I’m ready for my heart to take a chance
Give this a chance
Now ready for us to advance
Give this a chance
When the song was finished, everyone applauded, well everyone that is except for Zoey Rivas.
“Another outstanding performance, Miss. Matlin.” Miss. Oh praised.
“Wait, one more thing. I would like to thank Miles Hollingsworth for making this all possible. Come on up here, Miles.”
Everyone applauded again.
Mikes got out of his seat and went to the front of the classroom.
”I have been through a lot and Miles here, has really helped me out. I wasn’t sure if I would ever be ready for another relationship and I just really wanted to focus on my music and I didn’t want to hurt ‘someone’ who I thought was really my friend.” She looked Zoey dead in the eyes as she said ‘Someone who I thought was really my friend.’
Zoey’s expression was unreadable.
Maya continued on. “But that doesn’t matter anymore because I’m ready to move on and I’m ready to be free from all the obstacles that got in the way.”
She looked into Miles’s eyes and he stared back into hers. The moment was serious, a bit intense, but they both knew what the other was thinking. It was time for both Maya and Miles to take that chance. No more holding back and no more excuses. Time seemed to slow down as they stared into each other’s eyes. Their faces moved closer and then their lips finally met. They immediately wrapped their arms around each other and one of Maya’s feet went up as the kiss continued. Both in ecstasy. They were in their own world as the kiss grew more passionate. Moaning escaped from both their mouths.
They were completely unaware of the ‘Oohs’ ‘Awes’ and the whispering coming from their classmates. They were completely unaware of Zoey who was now giving them the look of a thousand deaths and they were completely unaware of Miss. Oh telling them to break it up and the class laughing at her failed attempts to get them to stop. The only ones who weren’t laughing was the girl who was sitting next to Zoey and of course Zoey herself wasn’t laughing.
Maya leaned against the table so that she wouldn’t lose her balance and Miles was practically on top of her and holding onto the table as well to keep his balance. If people were talking now about how ‘easy’ and what a ‘slut’ Maya was now, it was definitely going to get worse and she would later have to deal with the ‘consequences’ that came with being a girl.
Miss. Oh walked over and pounded on the desk with her fist which immediately startled the new couple and they broke the kiss.
”Miss. Matlin, Mr. Hollingsworth, as happy as I am for you two, PDA is not allowed in class. I’m gonna have to give you both a week of detention.”
Maya and Miles were unfazed by this. They were too busy reminiscing about that wonderful and magical kiss they had just shared, and their first one nonetheless. Maya gave Zoey the same smile the former gave her when leaving Mr. Simpson’s office.
The class watched as the two walked out of the classroom, hand-in-hand.
All Maya could think about is what a great kisser Miles was and how she longed for the many more that were about to come in their relationship.
Miles couldn’t stop thinking about the kiss either, but right now he also couldn’t help but think about how his dad was going to give him a serious smack down for getting a week of detention for making out with ‘some girl’ in class.
”You’re an amazing kisser.” Maya told him, dreamily.
He shrugged. “Years of practice. You weren’t too bad yourself.”
She playfully elbowed him. “Well, since we already have a week of detention, I already have two from my fight with Zoe; I wouldn’t mind doing that again.”
”Me neither.” He replied seriously before immediately pulling her in for a passionate kiss.
This time nothing was going to ruin this moment. This kiss was more intense and passionate than the one they shared in Music Class. Their tongues danced in each other’s mouths as the kiss became more heated. Pleasurable moans once again escaped their mouths. They never wanted this moment to end, but unfortunately like all other good things, it had to come to an end. The bell rang, signaled that it was time for class.
Maya and Miles groaned as they unwillingly pulled apart.
”Well come on, we better get to class. I don’t think I can afford another detention.” She said, grabbing his hand.
Maya Matlin and Miles Hollingsworth walked through the school halls of Degrassi Community School, hand-in-hand, sharing a smile before looking towards the future.
Screw Zoey.
Screw everybody else.
Screw the rumors.
To hell with everyone.
Maya most definitely wanted to move on in her life, knowing that she had a lot of things to look forward to. She felt free as a bird that she no longer had to keep her feelings for Miles all bottled up and that she can finally allow herself to take a chance at an ‘epic romance’ with Miles.
Definitely a lot of things to look forward to.
