Work Text:
Your window slams open from the wind pushing past it. The force is strong enough to shuffle your hair, making you shiver. Before the raindrops could manage to splatter inside however, you reach out from your sofa and shut it close once more. You really need to replace these locks...
Holding the window panes together, you stay still for a moment and watch the weather tussle the trees, and various plants that surround your home. It's been quite some time since you've seen the sunshine pass your window sill. Though it is rather nice to be at home.
After securing the window close with some garter, you shift from your position on the couch. Soon, your feet land back on the carpeted floor.
Despite the closed windows and doors however, chills still manage to run down your spine. Feeling the slight fuzz from your fleece jacket, you hug yourself gently. The weather seems to be more intense these days. The perfect time for a warm drink.
Shortly you make your way to the kitchen and open a cupboard to reveal the various assortment of powdered beverages you've yet to try. It ranges from black coffee, to green tea, and even some good old powdered milk, and a small canister of hot chocolate mix. After picking one out, you place it aside before heating up some water. Taking out your favourite mug, and a spoon for mixing, you then lean by the counter to wait.
...
A sigh slips past your lips, as your gaze lands to the window beside the table. Several droplets of water hit the glass, though not enough to blur out the view. Outside, a few leaves had been carried away by the breeze.
Your gaze remains on the window. The howl of the wind reaching your ears for a moment.
.
..
...
"Sssssshhhhh"
Oh. The water's ready.
You take the kettle by its handle, it's warmth easing the frost nestled between your fingers. Before eventually you pour it into your mug and mix in your chosen drink.
Taking a seat, you take the nearest one by the window. The weather doesn't seem too bad now.
After a sip however, your mind wanders...
So far you don't exactly have much planned for today. It's about an hour past noon on a Friday and to your delight there's no leftover work to mind for the weekend. So you're entirely free, no responsibilities, no worrying needed... No plans either though... Considering the weather, you might be stuck inside for the whole weekend.
The thought makes you sigh, as your gaze lands to the warm cup of drink held between your hands. The light pitter patter of rain continues, it pairs well with the gentle whisper of the wind that echoes through the room.
And for a moment you remain seated, gaze still on the cup of drink between your hands, steam emanating from it. You take another sip.
...
It's been some time, and you've been living by yourself for quite a while. Admittedly it does get lonely every once in a while when you're not busy dealing with work, or during times like right now when the weather itself barred you from going out to meet with your friends.
You could message them.
Though that's not exactly the same is it.
Your fingers fiddle with your drink for a moment before you take a sip once more. Though there is admittedly still some joy to be found at home. Like, right now. A delicious drink stays nestled in your grasp, as the weather continues on forming a cozy time for you to spend time with...
You could watch a movie, or play a game without judgement from others. Read the books left on your shelves, or even continue that personal project you haven't worked on for a while.
Surely, there's some activity that might catch your attention.
.
.
.
Oh?
I see...
None of those interest you?
Hmm...
Well... if you truly yearn to spend time with someone.
Then please, talk to me. I'm still here of course. I've always been here. For you.
*Cough*
The rain has gone on for only a few days, I didn't realize you'd have missed going out by now. In contrast to your fondness of others, you always did seem content with silent spaces, and spending time by yourself. And I can agree, there's solace in one's own company.
Is that why I talk less these days? Well, perhaps.
You don't exactly need much narrating at times considering you are experiencing this in real time with other senses than hearing. Or, are you not?
Still, too much narration can ruin the experience.
[You admit you never minded his narration.]
...
I see.
[You request him to narrate the view outside.]
If that's what you wish.
As you shift your gaze back to the window, the same familiar sight greets you. The tree's branches continue to sway with the wind, in parallel to the shrubs, and grass that had grown past your ankle. Relentlessly, the rain continues to drop from the sky, increasing in intensity a few times before easing for a moment.
The leaves that had been plucked from it's branches landed on the muddy ground. Only a few were swept away by the small stream that had formed on the lawn.
Despite the weather, you remain sheltered and relaxed. Enough so that it makes you smile warmly amidst the cold.
Soon, the delicious aroma of your drink mixes with the pleasant earthy smell from outside. As you sit back, your shoulders relax from its position. And the faint smile on your face widens ever so slightly. Who wouldn't? It's always pleasant to spend time with someone while enjoying a warm drink.
Atleast, I surely enjoy it.
Enjoy, you.
