But You Were Straight Yesterday?

Summary:

Lisa thought she knew her members.

Then Jisoo mentioned her girlfriend.

What follows is an increasingly chaotic evening of suspicious behaviour, questionable explanations, catastrophic gay panic, and several pieces of evidence that Lisa’s powers of observation may be even worse than anyone realised.

But, seriously—

They were straight yesterday.

Work Text:

“Unnie, I think you broke her,” Chaeyoung laughed from the doorway after seeing Lisa’s dumbstruck expression. “She looks like a gaping fish.”

Jisoo just smiled up from her position on their large sofa and shrugged.

“I… what?… how?” Lisa tried.

“Limario, you might want to close your mouth before you catch flies,” Jisoo joked, reaching across the middle cushion to tap the base of Lisa’s chin fondly.

“What did you do to cause her brain cell to explode?” the blonde asked as she kicked off her shoes.

“I didn’t do anything.” Jisoo leaned back into her comfortable position at the far end of the sofa, away from Lisa. “I just told her that I was excited for my girlfriend to get home.”

“Ahh… and that made her dumb because?”

“Because she was straight yesterday!” Lisa exclaimed, having suddenly found her voice enough to contribute to the conversation.

That caused a wave of laughter from the other occupants in the room.

“Is that so?” Chaeyoung asked with a raised eyebrow and an amused grin as she straightened in the doorway.

Chaeyoung moved across the room with the quiet, graceful confidence of someone who knew exactly how much the other occupants of the room appreciated her perfectly accentuated figure.

When she reached the sofa where the other women were sitting, Lisa moved, expecting Chaeyoung to take the space between her and Jisoo. She definitely did not expect the blonde to swing her legs to either side of the brunette’s hips and plant herself firmly on her lap, one arm draped casually over Jisoo’s shoulder and the other lightly tracing Jisoo’s jawline.

“Unnie, if you were straight last night, then what do you call our activities after dinner?” The blonde’s voice was laden with mischief.

“Huh? What? Huh?”

“I think you broke her, baby,” Jisoo laughed as she leaned into Chaeyoung’s touch.

“Be… ba… baby?”

“Yup, definitely broken,” Chaeyoung giggled. “What isn’t processing for you, Lali? Use your words like a big girl.”

“I don’t understand what’s happening right now.” Lisa rubbed at her eyes as if expecting the women in front of her to be illusions. “I can’t believe what I’m seeing. You’re messing with me, right?”

Jisoo raised an eyebrow at the implication, her hands playing with the hem of Chaeyoung’s cropped white T-shirt.

“We’re not playing with you, Lisa.”

“Bullshit,” came the Thai’s response. “You guys got me good, I’ll give you that, but I’m no longer buying what you’re selling.”

“Want us to prove it?” Chaeyoung challenged.

“I don’t think there’s anything—wooooooh.”

Tired of listening to Lisa’s protests, Chaeyoung leaned down and captured Jisoo’s perfect heart-shaped lips with her own, feeling the older woman smile against her.

The kiss was intended to be fairly tame, little more than a prolonged press of their lips, until Jisoo’s hand slipped and made contact with the blonde’s bare skin. Chaeyoung gasped at the feeling of Jisoo’s hand just under her shirt, warmth sinking into the firm muscles of her abdomen.

The older woman, never one to pass up an opportunity, slid her tongue across the blonde’s lower lip before slipping inside, drawing a small moan from the taller woman.

“Heh heh, you guys really didn’t need to go that far to play a prank, you know.”

Jisoo pulled back from her girlfriend, offering a little peck of apology before turning to their friend.

“It’s not a prank, Lisa. Chaeyoungie really is my girlfriend.”

Lisa ran her hands through her long, light-brown hair, not entirely sure how to process the information being presented to her.

“Yeah, sure, okay,” she mumbled with a furrowed brow. “I’m just gonna…”

She gestured over her shoulder towards her room before bolting from her seat and down the hallway.

“Do you think she’s okay?” Chaeyoung asked, still sitting firmly in Jisoo’s lap.

“Oh, she’s fine. She probably just needs a minute to stop gay panicking.”

“If she’s this broken finding out about us, how do you think she’s going to react when she finds out about Jennie unnie?”

Jisoo shrugged.

“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it, I guess.”

She ran her hand teasingly under the blonde’s shirt again, feeling her shiver in response.

“Now, where were we?”

“Hmmm, I don’t know. But I think you were welcoming me home?” the blonde sighed as she leaned further into the brunette’s touch.

“Welcome home, Chaeyoung-ah,” Jisoo whispered against her lips as she captured them once again, fully intending to pick up where they had left off minutes earlier.

Lisa was pacing.

What in the mango sticky rice did I just see?

She bit her thumbnail as she moved up and down her room. Movement helped. Movement meant progress, and progress meant figuring out whether her best friends were teasing her or were genuinely a thing—in which case, how the hell had she missed it?

Her brain replayed the scene on the sofa: the blonde straddling their unnie, Jisoo’s smaller hands slipping under the white T-shirt, the glimpse of tongue right before Chaeyoung’s moan.

Lisa groaned in frustration, running her hands over her face. She did not need to remember the details of that right now. It would not help her achieve anything other than reaching for the ‘stress relief’ tools she kept hidden in her bedside drawer.

Jennie unnie will know what to do.

Lisa scrambled to get her phone out of her back pocket, frantically searching for Jennie’s contact and typing.

Erm… I know you’re busy on your shoot, but do you have a minute? I need to ask you something. It’s private.

Jennie’s response was almost instant.

I’m on a break right now. What’s up?

Did you know that Jisoo unnie has a girlfriend?

I did.

The confirmation was short and to the point.

Was I the only one she didn’t tell?

Lisa felt a little hurt by the idea that she had been excluded from important information.

She didn’t exactly keep it a secret. She’s been handsy for a while now. Have you seen her in dance practice?

Lisa took a moment to think back to their recent sessions. Jisoo had been flirtier and more touchy, running her hands up the blonde’s thigh with more contact than she had during previous tours.

There had been more butt taps. She had been sitting on the taller girl’s lap more often as well, laughing more freely and dropping innuendos left and right.

Lisa had just assumed Jisoo was more comfortable with it now that they were all older and free from YG, but maybe it had been something else.

I don’t know how I didn’t see it. I don’t know why she didn’t tell me.

Lisa pouted at the screen.

Maybe she thought you already knew since she hasn’t been hiding it? I don’t think she’s kept her girlfriends from you deliberately.

GIRLFRIENDS?! PLURAL?!

Gotta go, Lali. They’re calling me back to set.

Wait, unnie… what do you mean, girlfriends?

Dammit.

Lisa was now even worse off than she had been before.

“Stupid shooting schedule,” she huffed.

Now she had even more questions. Had Jennie meant to add the s? Had it just been a slip? Surely it had to have been a slip.

Right?

“Urgh,” Lisa groaned aloud as she flopped onto the bed. “My brain is too tired for this. Maybe it’ll be clearer after a nap.”

Lisa woke up three hours later to the sound of laughter emanating from the kitchen area of their large shared condo.

Jennie unnie must be home, she thought with a smile.

She had always had a soft spot for the older girl and her adorable, pinchable cheeks.

Maybe I’ll get some answers now.

She stretched and headed down the corridor.

“Huh…? Wha…?”

Jennie was perched on the kitchen countertop, Jisoo nestled between her legs as they traded soft kisses between bursts of laughter.

“She texted me during my break. I couldn’t help it,” Jennie admitted. “Maybe I was feeling a little jealous, but I wanted her to know you had more than one girlfriend.”

Oh, they’re talking about me, Lisa thought, curious but a little bitter about being the joke of the conversation.

Maybe this will be the only way I’ll get some answers.

She tucked herself further into the shadows.

Chaeyoung walked in from the other hallway, towel-drying her hair, her long legs on display beneath ridiculously short pyjama bottoms.

“I’m gone for a few minutes and you two are having fun without me,” she teased as she approached.

She nudged Jisoo out of position and leaned up to plant a soft kiss on Jennie’s lips.

“Welcome home, unnie,” she said before leaning back in for a slightly longer, firmer kiss.

“Yah, you’re dripping on me, Rosie,” Jennie laughed as she pulled out of the kiss, trying to deliver a playful swat to the blonde, who deftly moved out of reach.

“You’ve never complained about that before.”

Chaeyoung winked, passing Jisoo with a kiss on the cheek before plonking herself dramatically onto a dining chair.

“Do you think Lisa’s okay? She looked a little fried earlier. We might have gone too far.”

What in the world is happening? Did Chaeng just kiss Jennie? And Jennie and Jisoo… and… what?

Lisa moved a little closer, still careful to remain unseen.

Jennie frowned in thought.

“I think she’s okay. When she texted me, she seemed more put out that unnie hadn’t told her than anything else. Besides, Lisa’s probably the gayest one among us, so I doubt she’ll have a problem with it in that regard.”

“It is amazing that she hasn’t put two and two together yet, though. Maybe she’s just not the most observant,” Rosie chuckled.

Rude, but not untrue, Lisa joked inside her own head as she leaned further in.

“So, now that she knows about us, how do you think we gauge her willingness to join us?”

Join? Join what? Lisa wondered.

“I don’t know. I love you both, and I love what we have—you know I do—but it feels like we’re missing a Thai-shaped piece of the puzzle,” Jennie answered.

“I know, Jendeuk.”

Jisoo moved back between the smaller girl’s legs, her hands running reassuringly up and down Jennie’s thighs.

“Let’s just see how she reacts to the fact that the three of us are dating first, okay? Then we can assess how she’ll feel about joining us.”

“What the fuck…?”

Three heads spun around in unison, clearly startled by the new voice.

“Lisa…” Jennie breathed, hopping off the worktop. “How long…?”

“Long enough.”

Lisa straightened, crossing her arms over her chest.

“So, you three…”

She let her sentence trail off. She was not quite sure which question she should ask or which question she wanted to ask first.

So, you three are a thing? So, you three want me to join you? What does that mean?

Jennie, Jisoo and Chaeyoung all looked at one another in various states of shock, concern, nervousness and a little bit of hope.

Jisoo bravely stepped forward.

“The three of us are dating, yes.”

Lisa’s brow furrowed again as she processed what was in front of her.

“But how? You two”—she waved, pointing at Jennie and Jisoo—“were straight yesterday.”

Jennie laughed, having already heard the line repeated by her partners during their earlier retelling.

“Lali… I haven’t been straight for a very, very long time. I mean, did you hear the lyrics and see the choreography from the Ruby era?”

“Yah, why was I not included in the straight assumption?” the blonde asked indignantly.

This time, Lisa could not help but laugh with the other two brunettes.

“Please. You’re about as straight as I am, and apparently you think I’m the gayest one here.”

Jennie went very still as she realised just how much of the conversation Lisa had heard.

“I guess I’m not very observant, huh?” Lisa asked, breaking the tension as she rubbed a hand self-consciously across the back of her head.

“You’re really not,” Chaeyoung snorted.

“You literally walked in on us showering together last week,” Jisoo added, waving a finger between herself and Jennie.

“I thought there might have been a bug,” Lisa shrugged.

“Please,” Jennie laughed. “What straight person showers with their friend just because of a bug?”

“Could have happened,” Lisa pouted.

“Come and sit. We can talk while dinner finishes cooking,” Jisoo invited. “You look like you have a lot of questions.”

Lisa took the seat opposite Chaeyoung at the table. The blonde radiated reassurance and affection towards her the entire time.

“Ask, and we’ll answer honestly,” she offered.

“How long?”

“For Jisoo and me? About a year. Jennie unnie joined us about six months ago.”

“How?”

“Some toxic asshole didn’t want to take no for an answer at a party, so I decided it was time to claim what was mine,” Jisoo offered. “Why do you think Chaeng stopped wearing such revealing outfits to afterparties and I accompanied her whenever I could?”

“I guess I hadn’t really thought about it.”

Lisa’s brown eyes slid over to Jennie.

“And you, unnie?”

Jennie blushed and shrugged.

“I walked in on them.”

Lisa swore her brain would never recover from the amount of short-circuiting it had endured that day.

“And what? You decided that instead of walking out, you’d join them?”

“Pretty much,” Chaeyoung laughed.

“You were talking about me during sex. What was I supposed to do?”

“They were what?”

Lisa gaped again before raising her hand.

“Hold on. Slow down. Start from the beginning.”

“Chaeng has a bit of a kink when it comes to Jennie,” Jisoo helpfully offered, dodging a towel thrown at her by a now very red-faced blonde.

Don’t we all, Lisa thought before listening to the rest of the story.

“So… I walked in to find them completely naked, with Jisoo deploying her storytelling capabilities, and saw first-hand how much Rosie enjoyed the idea of me…”

Jennie paused.

“What was the term you used, Rosie?”

The blonde muttered something completely incoherent into her hands as she hid her face.

“Ahh, yes. ‘Railed you into the mattress.’ Is that right, unnie?”

Jennie turned to Jisoo for confirmation. The older woman seemed surprisingly unbothered, considering they were discussing her sexual exploits.

“Yup. So, when I saw you watching us, I thought it was only polite to ask you to give my dearest girlfriend what she wanted.”

“Things grew from there,” Jennie shrugged.

“And you want me to…” Lisa trailed off.

“Join us,” Jisoo nodded. “If you want to. If not, then we’ll understand, and this will just be our very embarrassing way of telling you we’re a thing.”

“Does one of you have a thing for me the way Chaeng does for Jennie unnie?” Lisa asked somewhat sheepishly, afraid and a little embarrassed that they might say no.

“Oh, Lali,” Jennie sighed. “We all have a thing for you.”

Lisa’s head shot up so fast that it almost came off her shoulders as she looked at the three occupants of the room.

“Huh? Wha…? How?”

“Oh no. Unnie, you broke her again,” Chaeyoung laughed, having recovered from her earlier embarrassment.

Jennie smiled in amusement as she slid into Lisa’s lap.

The taller brunette welcomed her without question, even as her brain struggled to keep up. Jennie trailed a fingertip lightly down Lisa’s jawline, tilting her face towards her.

“Do you want to be ours, Lisa?” Her voice was almost a whisper.

All Lisa could do was nod dumbly before she felt Jennie’s lips press firmly against her own.

Just as the kiss started to deepen, an alarm sounded from somewhere in the room.

Groaning, Jennie pulled away, clearly offended by the unfairness of their kiss being cut short.

“Dinner time,” she said simply, following the declaration with a quick peck before rising from Lisa’s lap.

Lisa sat staring dumbly at the space Jennie had previously occupied.

Jennie and Jisoo moved around the kitchen with practised familiarity, returning moments later with plates of food for everyone.

Lisa did not remember what the food was or how it tasted. She did, however, vividly remember the taste of Jennie’s cherry lip gloss.

Few words were spoken as they ate. The Thai was trying to comprehend just what had happened that day, while the other three wondered whether they had just made the best or worst decision of their lives.

The younger pair cleared the table, following an unspoken rule and routine whenever their unnies cooked. Lisa rinsed the dishes in the sink before handing them to the blonde to load into the dishwasher.

“You okay?” the blonde asked quietly, trying to keep their conversation out of earshot of the older girls.

“Yeah, I think so,” Lisa replied, one hand subconsciously rising to touch her lips.

“She’s a good kisser, huh?” Chaeyoung smirked.

“Uh-huh,” Lisa replied dumbly, her mind clearly still on the kiss.

“Jisoonnie is just as good.”

“Uh-huh,” Lisa agreed before catching herself.

“Those perfect heart-shaped lips are for far more than just a beautiful smile,” Chaeyoung insinuated, enjoying watching Lisa struggle to keep up mentally as she handed her the last dish.

“You know, I’m not too bad either,” she flirted as she rose and stepped into Lisa’s personal space.

“Uh-huh… huh?”

Chaeyoung leaned in, nudging her nose against Lisa’s.

“So, are you going to let unnie be the only one to kiss you, or can I…?”

Lisa leaned in and connected their lips, effectively cutting Chaeyoung off mid-sentence.

They moved fiercely against one another, their tongues fighting for dominance. Lisa’s hands dropped to the blonde’s hips, pushing her back against the kitchen unit and feeling Chaeyoung’s breath huff against her lips.

“Chaeng…” Lisa panted as Chaeyoung’s lips left hers and travelled to her neck.

“Mmm?”

“The unnies are watching us.”

“Mmm-hmm,” she replied as she continued pressing kisses along Lisa’s long neck, making her way back up towards her lips. “Does it bother you?”

Lisa shook her head as she caught the blonde’s lips with her own again.

“I like it,” Lisa offered when she pulled away to catch her breath.

“Good,” Chaeyoung responded between kisses.

“Hey, Limario!” Jisoo called fondly. “Why do they get to hog you? You got a thing for fancy English-speaking accents?”

Chaeyoung laughed against Lisa.

“You need to do a better job of hiding your jealousy, unnie.”

“Jealous? Humph. I don’t get jealous,” Jisoo huffed, crossing her arms playfully over her chest.

“Then you won’t mind if I keep Lisa over here, will you?”

“Yah! Respect your elders.”

“I’ll be back.”

Lisa pressed a final kiss against the blonde’s plump lips before pushing away and moving towards where the oldest was playfully sulking.

“You want a kiss, unnie?” she teased.

“Humph,” Jisoo huffed.

“Okay, then. I’ll reserve my kisses for Jennie unnie and Chaeng.”

Lisa turned towards Jennie’s seat, stopping when she felt Jisoo catch her wrist.

The older woman tugged her back with a little too much strength, sending Lisa toppling into her lap with a laugh.

Jisoo leaned down and wasted no time capturing the Thai’s lips with her own, savouring their softness before deepening the kiss.

Hearing a moan that definitely did not belong to either of them, they pulled apart to find Chaeyoung straddling Jennie, the brunette’s hands wandering high underneath the blonde’s sleep shirt.

Hooking her chin over Lisa’s shoulder as they watched them, Jisoo teased with a laugh.

“Still think we were straight yesterday?”
