Chapter Text
Geppetto has never been a father. Hell, he’s never had a wife, nor any interest in being a father or husband! He had himself and his workshop, that was enough..
..So, imagine his surprise when the puppet he carved turned out to be alive, giving him the title of father. He knew nothing of being a father, let alone to someone who wasn’t even human. He had no friends to ask for help from, he was not too popular with his fellow townsfolk. He was alone in this. Completely, utterly alo-
“Papa!”
Geppetto sighed. Not entirely alone, huh..
“Yes, Pinocchio, what do you need?” The old man sits on the edge of his son’s bed. The wooden boy could say practically anything, he seems to always have an issue with something. Geppetto just had to be prepared. Those eyes, which he believed only one word described them, ugly, stared up at him.
The puppet’s mouth creaks open as he once again speaks. “I’m hungry! What do we have to eat, papa, what do we have?” The boy nags, rocking to and fro. The marionette had quite the appetite despite his total lack of a stomach.. or any organs for that matter.
Geppetto huffed as he arose, pulling Pinocchio up alongside him, wrinkled fingers holding onto wooden ones. “Okay, my boy, let’s see what we have.”
Pinocchio yapped Geppetto’s ear off as they walked to their kitchen.. or lack of one. The blond-wigged man grabbed a bowl he had carved and crouched down to find something to feed his son. How could anyone be a father willingly? This job was crueler than any other, especially with a son as needy as his. He found a singular banana and, deciding it was good enough, peeled it open.
The puppet hadn’t shut his mouth yet, continuing to ramble about whatever he could think of. Blah, blah, fairy, blah, blah, cricket, blah, blah. Geppetto mashed up the banana and turned to Pinocchio, speaking. “Go sit down.”
Pinocchio had moved to walk over to the chair, but just continued to walk around. He was a bad listener. The old man sighed and grabbed onto the puppet’s wooden wrist, stopped him in his tracks and sitting him down. Geppetto sat next to him and began trying to feed the boy. For once, the child didn’t instantly inhale the food infront of him. What do you do with a child who refuses to eat? Who do you ask these questions to?
—
Geppetto tried and tried to get Pinocchio to eat. About half of the banana had ended up on the floor. Why on Earth is the boy being so stubborn?
“Pinocchio. My son. My boy. Can you please just eat some of your breakfast?” The man pleaded. The puppet finally creaked his mouth open and some of the banana made it into his mouth. Thank God. Geppetto couldn’t take any more of this. “Oh, thank you, my boy! Thank you! Let’s eat the rest now, okay?”
..Only about a third of the banana ended up in what should’ve been the puppet’s stomach.
