Luke always liked to watch his husband remove or put on his armor. It was such an intimate thing, that Din was comfortable in front of him, with or without the armor that represented his devotion to his Creed. Luke had been worried, at first, that his attention would make Din uncomfortable, but his husband had assured him that it was fine, and Luke had indulged ever since.
Which was how he knew something was off one morning, watching Din struggle a bit with the zipper of his kute and then not move on to his next layer right away.
"What's wrong?" Luke asked, rolling out of bed and walking across the room to his husband.
"My kute is getting tight," Din said matter-of-factly, frowning down at the offending item of clothing. "My vest as well. Pretty soon, I'll have to get some different under layers, or I won't be able to wear half my armor." He grimaced at the idea of going armorless. It was a part of him; even when it was just the three of them, Din still chose to wear his armor most of the time.
Luke had noticed his husband gaining weight recently of course. He'd chalked it up to Din spending more time with him and Grogu, eating home cooked meals, rather than surviving on ration bars all the time while out on jobs. If Din's face got a little rounder and his middle a little thicker, well... Luke was the one who got to appreciate it. More to cuddle with was always welcome, as long as Din was comfortable with the changes to his body.
But there was something about the way Din had worded things, as if they were inevitable, that had Luke questioning his previous decision to not mention the—so far relatively slight—weight gain.
"We could alter your current clothes," Luke offered. He'd learned to be self sufficient as a child growing up on Tatooine, and his time in the Rebellion and on remote planets hadn't changed those habits. "There might be enough room in the seams to let them out a bit."
Din nodded absently, rubbing a hand against his stomach. "That will help for a little while, but I wouldn't want to alter them to the point we can't reverse the changes. I'll be able to fit back into them eventually. At least theoretically."
Luke got the distinct impression that he was missing something. "Eventually?" he asked. Din wasn't the type to lie or withhold information from Luke, but he also didn't necessarily volunteer information if Luke didn't ask. So Luke had gotten into the habit of asking. It worked for them.
"After the baby comes," Din answered, and the universe froze for a moment before Luke got ahold of himself again.
"What baby??" Their baby, obviously, but. "How long have you known?"
Luke was careful to keep any accusation out of his tone. He wasn't mad at his husband, he was just completely caught off guard.
"Oh," Din said, blinking slowly. "A couple of months. I thought you knew already."
Luke huffed out a fond laugh, disarmed by his husband's confession. "Sweetheart, how would I have known if you didn't tell me?"
"With your magic," Din said with a shrug, a sheepish expression on his face. "Don't you feel life in the Force?"
And that really wasn't an unreasonable assumption, was the thing.
"I do. But I shield myself, generally, to keep it from being overwhelming. And I try to give you your privacy, to an extent. Between that, the beskar, and how early along you must be, I hadn't noticed. I wasn't looking for it specifically, either," Luke explained. "And Grogu's probably never been around pregnant people, for him to notice."
Din nodded, accepting Luke's answer easily. "Do you want to try now?" he asked, reaching out to pull Luke's hand to rest on his stomach.
Luke took a deep breath and reached out with his senses, feeling Din's familiar light and then—
"I feel them," Luke gasped, a grin stretching across his face. He looked up at Din. "Our baby. I feel them!"
Din placed a hand on the back of Luke's neck and pulled him closer, pressing their foreheads together in a Keldabe kiss, and Luke let his eyes slip close as he enjoyed the embrace.
In the end, they spent the morning cuddling together in bed, giddy with thoughts of the future. Grogu joined them when he woke up, munching on a savory breakfast pastry and getting crumbs all through their sheets, but Luke couldn't bring himself to scold the child. Sheets could be washed. Moments like this, with their clan of three—soon to be four!—all together, were priceless.
