Chapter Text

He shifted his weight slightly, trying his best to be as quiet as he could. The air held a bit more of a chill to it than it had two hours ago. Yeosang glanced up at the sun; judging by its placement, he only had about an hour before dark. His eyes landed back on the door to the abandoned warehouse. He had been up on this roof for what felt like forever. Waiting for the right time to make his move. He had observed and taken painstaking note of all the activities and habits of the occupants over the course of the past week. His anxiety stemmed from too many unknowns. Even so, he could feel it within his bones that he had the right place.

His hands trembled while he carefully shifted his tactical backpack off his shoulder. Before digging around within it. He took hold of his phone. Drawing it out, before dropping his bag next to him. His finger tapped through it with the ease of memory. Memory born from pulling up the same unit email. At this point, he knew the contents within like the back of his hand. He closed his eyes and took a deep studying breath before reopening it. He scanned over the black-inked words as if they would change. They didn’t.

Yeosang of Task Force 260,
Mission type: extraction,
Your mission is as follows: Observe and then successfully extract kidnapped Omega Jung Wooyoung.
Deadline: Undetermined

That was all it said, aside from this very location and his Unit leader's signature. Even if this mission hadn’t been assigned to his Unit. He still would have been out here. Over the years, there were not many things that could be called his weakness. But somehow someone had found his; he’d been 17 years old. When he had first met a boy by the name of Jung Wooyoung, a soft smile took over his face as he remembered how very different in manner the other was to himself, and how no matter how much as he tried to say he hated having the other around. That boy had still, somehow, managed to break through his perfectly constructed walls.

Sadly, a year later, Wooyoung presented as an Omega, judging by this email,  which would explain why he had just vanished from his life. He had reminded himself many times over the years that if Wooyoung could move on, then he should too. But move on, he never did. One more year passed before he himself presented. Full-body chills ran through him at that memory. He shook his head; no, he needed to remain focused. He couldn’t afford to be distracted.

He drew his leather coat tighter around his head, pushing back loose light brown hair, as night began to fall. It felt like he held his breath as he waited a little bit longer for the night sounds to replace the day. Before getting gracefully to his feet, he had a plan. Yeosang just hoped that, for both his and Wooyoung’s sake, it worked. He dropped his phone on top of his backpack; he would get it later. He flexed his ankle and smiled to himself as the dagger within his boot shifted too. It was time.

He stalked to the edge of the roof and, in one swift motion, jumped. He didn’t fight gravity, but used it to help propel him. Right through the glass window of the abandoned warehouse. He had thought about being silent but couldn’t think of any other way in. That and it would draw the enemy within away from Wooyoung, and maybe buy himself some time. He tucked his body as he landed, before springing up to his feet once more. He held still and breathed in all of the scents around him. There were others here; he just wasn’t able to tell their sub gender yet.

Yeosang cautiously stepped further into the building. He sensed movement, but it was too late. The bullet pierced right through his side. The agony was instant as his knees buckled, hitting the cold floor. His vision blurred. As he took in the scents of the four Rogue alphas, who now formed a half circle around him. His mind raced as they projected their dominant pheromones to keep him on his knees. It was then that it dawned on him. This had been a trap; someone had set him up.

“Who sends an Omega to rescue an Omega?” one of the alphas sneered. As he yanked a handful of Yeosang’s hair. A growl emanated from his throat as his head was forced up for the alpha to get a better look. This wasn’t the person the boss wanted, but they could find use for him.

“What the hell are you smiling at, property?” another hissed. Yeosang pressed his lips together. They would never hear a word from him. As he began to fall unconscious, one last thought filled him. Thank god Wooyoung was safe and never here in the first place. Even his sub-gender might have been a lie. No, this was reserved all for him, courtesy of his Unit. At least this way he would die fast.

Yeosang's eyes shot open as he took in the familiar dark bedroom. Eyes darting from one corner to the other, reassuring himself. My breath left him in short pants. He was free; he was no longer within that cell, just breathing. Running a hand through his sweat-soaked jet-black hair, he tossed the covers back and shifted to sit on the edge of the bed, arms resting on his knees, still trying to gather himself. He never did find out who freed him that night, and he most likely never would. Some days he wished to find the person just to thank him; other days it was to ask why and if he even looked to him like someone who was worth saving.

Sighing, he rose, coffee first, then to the office. If he was up, he might as well get to work. Being free for a year didn’t change a thing; if anything, it made him more driven, just with a different goal in sight. He had been keeping an eye on his old unit. Not many people knew about his past, not to be able to use it in such a way. A) It was just one member of his unit who turned on him. B) It was a team effort, and dear old daddy was there with endorsement. Whichever it was mattered little. What did, however, was the fact that his whole unit was still together and didn’t seem to be searching for him; that right there let Yeosang know what he needed. Unfortunately, as of right now, the proof that they were a part of his kidnapping just remained out of reach. It was there; he just needed the opportunity to present itself. Because if they thought he was just going to fade into the shadows and never come for them, then they didn’t know him.

Sitting at his desk, he powered on his computer. Humming as he logged in, he read over the new units that were formed due to changes to the Director's seat. Task Force 260 was still a four-man unit, still made up of the same two alphas and two betas, all men. It should be five, but why change something after three years. This new director didn’t know what they were capable of, but he did. Moving down, his eyes locked on the newest unit, one that was just formed, seven members? Even left a spot for one more member. Why? Yeosang clicked on it. Task force 278, huh?  There wasn’t much he could pull other than the number of members and which task force it was. Without raising red flags that he was even in their system to begin with.

He hoped that this seven-member unit didn’t have an Omega. Working pure instinct here, Yeosang's old unit never seemed to like the fact that he was an Omega. Maybe this had less to do with him and more to do with the stereotypes around Omegas. Hoping he wasn’t right, or that what happened to him could happen to this new unit, and just like that, his goal shifted; it was no longer as simple as getting in and taking down his old unit. No, now he added being able to protect from the inside. He could do both after all. He sat back and slipped his coffee; only time would tell. Yeosang's eyes darken. He was coming for them.
