Chapter Text
Enid's mistake
It's 11pm at nevermore and Wednesday is still up writing on her typewriter, the sounds of clicks echoing in the room. On the other side there is Enid who is cuddling with her plushie that Wednesday got for her recently, it’s a bat plushie with big sparkly green eyes, the most amount of colour Wednesday has ever bought for Enid. She's right now rolling around in her bed trying to fall asleep as Wednesday looks like she's not moved an inch for hours now.
“Wends?”
“What Enid, I'm occupied.”
“Please can we cuddle just for tonight? I really can't sleep and I'm scared that I'll get another nightmare.”
Wednesday sighs but her actions say the opposite of her vocal reaction as she finishes her sentence and shuts her typewriter. Signalling for Enid to come over.
“Thank you, thank you! I’ll put on my black hoodie now.”
Enid immediately jumps up and puts her only black hoodie on which is actually just Wednesdays but it lives in her wardrobe. Wednesday climbs into her own bed and opens her arms just for Enid.
“Come here now before I go back to writing.” Wednesday says as Enid comes running over into her arms, her phone in her pocket.
She wraps her arms around Enid and holds her tighter than expected, her grip possessive and protective as her chin rests on top of Enid's head. Enid quickly pulls out her phone and takes a quick picture of them both together, wanting to savor all these special moments. The photo looks like a happy unicorn next to a dark cloud but the contrast of the photos just make the whole photo look way better. She posts the photo on her instagram ‘close friends only’ story but accidentally picks her public story by accident, not actually realising what she did.
“I'm gonna show this picture at our wedding, showing how cute we used to be when we were just silly teenagers.”
“I find your definition of ‘silly incongruous, Sinclair. There might be a slight possibility I will allow you to show that picture one day.
Enid smiles as she puts her phone to the side, now wanting to just spend the moment with Wednesday in person and not through the screen. The room is filled with a peaceful silence as they sit there cuddling, Wednesday would only ever do this for Enid, if it was anyone else she probably would have performed some cruel torture method on them. Even after all of this Enid still only considered them as ‘just friends’ i mean after all she knew she couldn't date a Wednesday but that's all that ever crossed her mind, whether it was in the middle of the afternoon or it was in the middle of the night, all Enid ever wanted was to be able to date her and be accepted by her pack, her own family. She wishes it was as simple as just saying it, but it’s not.
Eventually the thoughts drift her off to sleep, not knowing what the morning is going to bring her. Wednesday holds her tightly, placing a gentle kiss to the top of her head, bringing her comfort even in her sleep.
‘Good night, Cara mia.” Wednesday whispers against her head, as she looks at Enid with pure love and affection in her eyes. She never thought she would ever love someone this much, she thought that she would be single forever, but oh how she loved Enid. If only they could date openly, nothing is ‘casual’ about their relationship, they're girlfriends just without the label, but why can't there be a label? Why can't everyone just be supportive and happy for others? The two questions that spiralled Wednesday’s mind everyday. She knew the reason but still, it's the love of her life, all she wants is for Enid to be happy and be herself, not be the version her pack wants.
The night passes but Wednesday’s grip on Enid never loosens. The sun slowly rises, lighting one side of the room all colourful and the other side just normal sunlight. Enid starts to stir as her eyes open, groaning and nuzzling her head into Wednesday’s chest. She has a ghost of a smile on her face as she brushes the hair off of Enid's face.
“Morning, Wends.”
“Good morning to you too.”
She stretches in Wednesday’s arms as she stands up to get ready for her classes. They both get out of bed and start to get changed.
“Enid, you left your phone on my bed and the sound of buzzing is aggravating.”
“Fine I'll come get it let me just finish doing my hair!”
“I’m not against throwing your phone out the window.”
“Okay, okay! I'm coming to get it now.”
She runs over to grab her phone from Wednesday’s bed before she actually does throw it out of the window. Enid goes back to doing her hair and pins it back how she usually does, the colourful streaks in her hair matching her bubbly personality.
“You look acceptable today, Sinclair.” She says trying to compliment Enid without feeling like she's making a fool of herself.
She blushes and walks over to Wednesday, “Thank you, you do too.”
A ghost of a smile appears on her face contrasting to Enid's visible smile. She walks over to her phone as Wednesday goes and does her morning routine, not changing a single step. Enid picks up her phone and sees multiple notifications from her WhatsApp under the contact saved as, “mom”, the smile on her face slowly fades as she reads all the messages.
Her voice starts trembling as she starts moving to the door of their dorm, “I’m going to go to class now, see you later.”
“Enid, are you okay-” the door slams before she could even finish asking the question. Wednesday’s expression changes, actually feeling concerned as Enid usually tells her everything and anything, why not this time? She finishes getting all her stuff ready and goes to go get Thing to make sure he keeps an eye on her for the whole day.
