Chapter Text
I always felt…different from others. Average looks, average grades, average life. My life is average, to any normal onlooker. But even from my first memory, I felt odd, separate from the crowd. My classmates teased me when I told them, and said that I should stop acting differently for attention. The adults said that my attitude was…oddly cold…distant…for a child my age. My mom and dad are always away, busy doing work to care for their children most of the time.
Having no way of dealing with my irregular feelings, I turned to books, specifically fairytales, due to my young age. The way they felt reflected me in every way. The protagonist always feels incomplete, right up until they meet their “other half”, filling their world with light and entirety. I yearned for when this sickly, heavy feeling would go away, so finding out that there was a solution to my problem excited me. Until then, I would observe and act just like my classmates, to prevent the ever-growing teasing becoming an actual problem.
I adjusted to my new role in due time, but the heavy feeling got worse over time. The role of being a normal person, weighing further the more I got older. Sometimes, I wondered why I was the only one born like this, as my sister is completely normal and bubbly, free from the shackles I have to carry without anyone understanding. It’s sickening.
The distance between me and normal people grows everyday. I hated seeing others smile and frolic around, because they would never suffer like I had. Their understanding of me is shallow, their sympathies never reaching the real me, the real me is always aching from the burden. I would never really understand them, and they would never understand me, the thin veil of peace being ever so suffocating. The best I could do is pretend…. how infuriating.
My impatience for the one who will save me got stronger every hour and day that passed. However, right when I thought that it was time to give up longing for something I thought I would never get, I bumped into her.
