Chapter Text
Derek had no idea what went wrong, or more importantly, what caused things to go wrong. As he felt the infinite knowledge sink into his very brain, his being too small to contain whatever spills he got from the King in Yellow. When he was reciting the words that he copied from the book he found in the glass village, there was one particular thing that was a bit odd. He was unable to copy the entire text and paste it in a whole sentence. His computer for some reason, as he was on the platform, instead of the entire thing being 'said'. There was it being pasted sentence for sentence, as if he was speaking it. The king for some reason was unable to stop him from completing the ritual but a odd thing was that as he was speaking the chant, the eyes started to disintegrate and the platform he was on started to crumble.
He continued the chanting, however just as he was about to finish, the block underneath his avatar disappeared. All he could do as he was falling was see how the eye that was looking at him start to fragment as well and the darkness started to take over his screen. The odd part is when the darkness wasn't contained by the computer screen and start to crawl out, as if it was corrupting his vision. In a panic, he tore his eyes away from the screen (faintly noting that there was no head exploding pain) and he saw the rest of his room. There was no darkness but when he turned back to his computer the darkness remained, spreaded out even more and as if sensing his next move of running away, accelerated sharply. Between one blink and the next, his vision went dark and he felt as if he took a plunge into a lake in the middle of winter.
He felt nothing, heard nothing and saw nothing. All he saw was the dark, a pitch black that not even if he stuck his arms in front of could he see. As he turned his head in every possible direction, with the goal of seeing anything at all. In failing to do that was causing him to freak out, as if he wasn't freaking out in the first place. He can't tell how long he was there, could have been minutes or seconds.
However when a small speck of light shone from where he assumes the top was, it felt like he was being freed of more than just the darkness that surrounded him. Between the first sight of light and the entire world being revealed was within a second. It left him feeling so disoriented that he stumbled, feeling a brief sensation of something under his foot and he landed on the ground. Except the ground wasn't the polished wooden floor he had at home but the leafy terrain of a forest.
Quickly getting back on his feet, he turned his head in every direction. All he could see were trees, thick bushes and a dirt path on which seemed to be a few meters to the right of him. He decided that the best choice would be to stick to the road, as the other one would be to just walk in the wilderness. One curious thing that he noticed was that it felt oddly like those dimensions that the King in Yellow would have, but it didn't feel like it completely.
Despite the obvious difference of the lack of yellow door, he had no {knowledge} of this place and the forest felt as if it would be one he would have near his apartment. From what he observes just on his short walk, there don't seem to be any rules of the sort. Of course he can't just expect to not be on guard, there may be a trick of some kind or a rule which he can't just determine from the forest.
The forest was dense and it seemed to be mid day, the sun warm enough to make his dirty hoodie feel insulating enough. Another curiosity was that he wasn't in his minecraft avatar but his actual body. There wasn't any disconnect that he would feel through a screen of some kind or his avatar humanized. It just him in the clothes he wore during his playthrough session that turned out to become much more and he could tell. His hoodie was a mess, an odd smoothie stain here or there and now the debris from the forest floor sticking to the material. His sweatpants had the same problems but with admittedly less smoothie stains.
One thing that he was thankful for was that he had his shoes on, he wouldn't like to traverse the forest without them.
After what he thinks would be an hour of walking on the path the forest gave away to a road. This made it that now that he was freed from the forest, he now had to discover how to get to any sort of civilization and figure out what was going on. His hopes were somewhat answered where a car came from around a sharp bend around the forest corner and hit him. Thankfully the hit was somewhat stopped before it hit him but still enough to throw him back and make him land head first onto the road.
All he could make out were the panicked shouts of a woman getting out of the car and ringing for what he hopes were emergency services.
After all, he hopes he won't die to a car accident after surviving a eldritch horror, he would rate the experience 0/10 stars.
As the woman got closer, his grip on the world crumbled and he passed out.
