Work Text:

Phoebe O’Connor kept to herself at school. She didn’t partake in gaelic football, or camogie, or whatever really was considered normal at her school. She was quiet, kept to herself and just tried her best to keep her grades up and prepare herself for the upcoming junior cert.

In other words, she was considered a fucking loner.

See, in her school, and what she presumed was also nearly every other school in Ireland, if you didn’t play GAA, or at least take interest in the any of the damned sports the organisation had to offer, people thought less of you, mabye even took the piss out of you. That may sound dramatic, but thats just how it was. It’s not like Phoebe was necessarily unathletic, hell, she could catch a ball if it was thrown at her and probably run a few laps before she was fit to pass out, but that countered the most of her abilities. On top of all that, she also prefered to dress alternative, no crazy makeup or anything really, just baggy jeans and incredibly expensive hollister tops she saves up for and ordered online from America. Yet, as you can imagine, her decision in not choosing the regular fashion of leggings and a white fox hoodie like her peers, also gained her a bit of unwanted attention. Regardless, she didn’t take notice of anything the dickhead lads or the judgemental girls in her year had to say about her. She had two good friends, Yasmin and Tara, and thats all she needed.

Lauren O’Leary was in Phoebe’s year. She, if anything, would be considered the complete opposite of Phoebe. If someone were to name every sport they could think of, Lauren probably had a medal in all of them. She played football, camogie and also did cross country running, and was the top of her league in all three. She played full forward for football and midfield in camogie, and to top it off she was on the county panel for both. She was gorgeous, she just had that look about her that had every lad acting stupid for her and every girl trying to replicate her exact outfit rotas. If you looked at her from the outside and at school many times like Phoebe did, it would look like she had many friends. And she did, she was well known and idolised by many, but she didn’t have many real friends. Despite this she had absolutely no problem making conversation with anyone who crossed her path. Lauren often struck Phoebe as a strange cas because she came across as genuine and kind and well spoken, so why did she hang out with a group of judgemental bitches all the time? Phoebe wouldn’t get to know the answers to all her questions until months later.
