Work Text:

"You will come back to visit?" Lenox Tamplin asked, evidently feeling awkward but sincerely hoping. "I know Mother is grasping, and Corky..." Her shrug implied family feeling sufficient to silence words about her young stepfather.

"I might," Katherine answered. The Villa Marguerite itself was pleasant enough. Indeed, once Katherine felt more used to travel (the correct choices of forks and so forth) she could... Thus she offered, impulsively, "I could send for you to join me."

"Not a train, please." Lenox gave a little shudder that, considering the Blue Train, was not overly dramatic.

Sea travel, then, Katherine suggested. "We'll share a room for reasons of economy."

"A cabin," Lenox said. Probably joking, "I shall sleep lightly, ready to fight off any murders."

Before Katherine could express how unlikely that was to happen again, Lenox elaborated, "Or there might be a murder, someone nobody much likes and neither of us have met! The old detective friend of yours will be in the next cabin."

Getting into the spirit of the thing, Katherine said, "He'll hear the splash of evidence being thrown into the sea."

"He would explain everyone's motives and who did it," Lenox said, breathless at the imagined drama.
