Summer Vacation

Summary:

Shou surprises everyone with the news that he has been given free access to a family villa. Determined to use it as a chance to hone their abilities, bond, and have a good time, the gang decides it's a perfect way to spend summer break!

Focus on Ritsushou and Terumob with a little Serizawa and Reigen just barely visible in the background. They're like the fathers here, not the focus

Notes:

This is going to be a longer one, abt 30,000 words maybe? Maybe more? No definite plans yet
For this fic I'm trying to write longer chapters (at least longer than my usual OTHER THAN THE FIRST CHAPTER) so releasing chapters may not be very quick

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Summer Vacation

Chapter Text

Shigeo woke up in a strange room he didn’t recognize. He looked around slowly- he had been sleeping in an unfamiliar Western style bed.

Ah, right… I’m at Suzuki’s place, he thought tiredly, staring up at the celling.

FOUR DAYS AGO

“Nii-san. Nii-san, wake up,” urged Ritsu. Shigeo was laying on his futon, being softly shaken awake by his little brother. He opened his eyes slowly, having to cover his eyes from the bright light leaking through the blinds. “Nii-san, we have to get ready. Mom and Dad go to the airport today, remember?”

Shigeo sat forward and stretched.

Right. Their trip to America is today. We just got on summer break.

. . .

Ritsu and Shigeo sat silently in their empty home. Their parents weren’t usually very loud, but their absence made the house feel empty.

Since Shigeo was 17 and Ritsu 16, their parents decided they were old enough to look after themselves for one summer so they could go on a long vacation. They left them with money for groceries (plus a decent amount extra), lots of safety warnings, and then left for their resort in Florida.

Shigeo stood from the couch, where he had been mindlessly flipping through channels, to grab a glass of milk when several sharp knocks on the door nearly made him drop his cup. He approached the door and opened it, sensing the familiar aura before he saw their faces.

“Hanazawa, Suzuki,” he greeted politely, nodding his head slightly. Ritsu followed close behind, stepping out of the way with Shigeo to let the two boys inside.

“Ritsu, Ritsu’s big brother!” blurted Shou as a ‘hello,’ casually sauntering into the house like he lived there. He practically did with how often he visited. Teru waved with a warm smile and came in too. “I come with great news!”

After a little bickering, Shou explained that he was recently was given free access by his mother, through his rich father, to an expensive villa about 50 miles away which had enough room for everybody. Because it was summer break, he wanted to bring everyone to train and hang out.

Although Ritsu acted indifferent, Shigeo could tell even without his jittery aura that his brother was excited by the idea. He internally smiled, wondering if this had to anything to do with Shou specifically. Shigeo liked the idea of going himself, but he wasn’t sure if his parents would.

He pulled out his cellphone and hit his mom’s contact.

“Nii-san, you can’t be serious about us going,” his little brother said with horror in his voice. Shigeo just nodded as he heard the call connect.

“Shigeo, did something bad already happen? We haven’t even left the airport yet!” his mother shouted over the loud airport accusingly.

“No, mom,” he began.

. . .

Shigeo exhaled in relief as he tucked his phone back into his pocket. The moment the call ended, Shou jumped up, sending the chair he was in tumbling backwards with a loud thud.

“HELL YEAH!” he celebrated, pumping his fists in the air.

Shigeo looked at Teru, and asked simply, “will you be coming Hanazawa?”

Teru could barely hear the question over Ritsu and Shou. “Of course, Kageyama! If you are, that is!” he said with a smile.

“WHyyyy… It’s bad enough with Suzuki, but now Reigen… God, nooooOOoOOOO,” moaned Ritsu.

After a lengthy discussion, his mom decided it would be okay if only trusted friends and Reigen, an adult, accompanied them. Also, they had to call often and send lots of updates. Since Teru lived by himself, there was no need for him to get explicit permission.

. . .

Three days later, Reigen, Serizawa, Shigeo, Ritsu, Teru, Shou, and Tome all sat in a cramped SUV they had rented for the occasion, full of them and all their luggage. Shigeo looked around in awe at all his closest friends- basically, his second family- sat in one small little space together, all being noisy over something.

Ritsu was stubbornly ignoring Shou (who was desperately trying to be annoying enough to invoke a reaction from him), Tome complained about the snack selection to an annoyed Reigen who was trying to not crash the car while Serizawa stressed over if everyone remembered their essentials, and Teru began to put in an earbud.

“Kageyama, would you like one?” he offered. Shigeo shifted his attention from the group and at the small earbud held between Teru’s fingers. He smiled slightly and accepted. Although he had the middle seat between Tome and Teru, he wasn’t very upset about it. It might give him and Teru and chance to talk a little more.

PRESENT DAY

Shigeo rose out of bed to brush his teeth. The day before they had been given a whole tour- it was around the size of a very spacious and luxurious family-sized home. They all got their own separate rooms. Today, the plan was to go to a convenience store and grab food and other necessities.
