Work Text:

SATURDAY MAY 2, 2015.
INT. STASH HOUSE – BASEMENT – NIGHT

The basement is dim lit only by a single flickering light bulb. Wooden crates stamped with Oscorp Industries logos are stacked along the walls. Three crooks lounge around the room, smoking cigars and cleaning their guns.

CROOK #1
When's the truck gettin' here?

CROOK #2
(exhales cigar smoke)
Driver said he was five minutes out.

Crook #2's phone rings.

CROOK #2
Speak of the devil...

He answers

CROOK #2
Hello?

The sounds of guns energy blasts and metal thuds can be heard over the phone. The sounds crackle violently through the phone speaker. The crooks sit up immediately.

DRIVER (CALL)
Someone's here! It's some other gang that has some crazy tech! Get out here before-

Suddenly static replaces the driver's voice. Every crook grabs their guns. A fourth crook rushes down the basement stairs.

CROOK #3
Nobody touches these crates!
(cocks his rifle)
They belong to the Big Man, nobody else.

CRASH!

The basement door bursts off its hinges and crashes down the stairs.

BOOM!

A man wearing vibro-shock gauntlets fires a pulsing blast down the stairwell. The shockwave slams into the crooks, sending them flying across the room and smashing into crates and walls. Another masked man leaps down after him, landing hard. His massive purple gauntlets glow faintly.

WHAM!

He punches one crook straight across the room.

THUD!

Another crook charges at him.

CRACK!

He knocks him out in one punch. A third crook scrambles across the floor and manages to grab his gun. He fires wildly.

BANG! BANG!

The vibro-shock man raises his gauntlets. They hum louder as energy builds.

VMMMMMMMM-BOOOOM!

He fires a concentrated blast that launches the crook into the wall. The man collapses instantly. The man with the purple gauntlets pulls off his mask, revealing PHINEAS MASON. He looks around the room at the unconscious crooks.

PHINEAS
All clear.
(glances over)
You?

The vibro-shock man removes his goggles, revealing HERMAN SCHULTZ.

HERMAN
Yeah, I'm good.
(looks around the wreckage)
So what's down here that you needed so bad?

Phineas walks to one of the crates and pries it open. Inside the crate there's a lot of experimental Oscorp weapon components including Power cells and prototype tech. Phineas grins.

PHINEAS
I knew it... Oscorp hardware.

He lifts one of the devices, admiring it.

PHINEAS
With this... I can upgrade our gear big time.

Herman glances down at his vibro-shock gauntlets. They spark weakly.

HERMAN
Good. Because I'm pretty sure these hunks of junk are about to fall apart.

WHAM!

Something hard and metallic slams into Herman's back, sending him flying down the basement stairs.

CRASH!

He crashes into a stack of crates. Herman groans in pain.

PHINEAS
Herman!

Phineas quickly pulls his mask back on. His large gauntlets lock into place with a mechanical clank. He looks up the staircase. Standing there is Joseph Martello aka the Hammerhead. Hammerhead slowly lifts his head after using it to smash Herman down the stairs.

HAMMERHEAD
This shipment belongs to the Big Man.

He cracks his knuckles.

HAMMERHEAD
I suggest you leave it alone.

Phineas steadies himself, raising his massive fists.

PHINEAS
Not a chance.

Hammerhead chuckles. He slips on a pair of brass knuckles. Then, he jumps down the stairs, landing heavily in front of Phineas.

THUD.

HAMMERHEAD
I wasn't asking.

WHAM!

Before Phineas can recover, Hammerhead lunges forward, swinging his brass knuckles at every exposed opening in the armor.

CRACK! CRACK!

The metal gauntlets protect most of Phineas' body, but the strikes still cut across his arms and shoulders. Phineas growls and swings one of his giant fists.

BOOM!

The punch connects with Hammerhead's chest and launches him backward.

THUD!

Phineas charges forward, raising his massive fist for a finishing blow. But Hammerhead rolls aside at the last second. Phineas' fist smashes into the floor instead. Hammerhead kicks him hard in the stomach.

THUD!

The impact knocks the locking mechanisms loose. Both of Phineas' giant gauntlets clatter off his arms as he crashes into another crate. Hammerhead slowly walks over, looming above him.

HAMMERHEAD
Спокойной ночи, подонки. (Say goodnight, scum.)

CLANG!

Hammerhead headbutts Phineas, knocking him out cold.

VVRROOMM!

A vibro-blast slams into Hammerhead from behind, launching him into the air. He crashes onto the floor. Herman stands at the bottom of the stairs, aiming his gauntlets.

HERMAN
Stay down!

He charges another blast.

SPARK.

The gauntlets flicker.

SPARK.

They shut down. Herman panics.

HERMAN
No, no, no, no!

Hammerhead chuckles as he rises, grabbing Herman by the arm.

HAMMERHEAD
Nice try.

CLANG!

Hammerhead slams his reinforced skull into Herman's face, making him drop instantly.

[AN HOUR LATER]
INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE – NIGHT

Herman slowly opens his eyes, the world blurry at first. As his vision clears, he realizes he's tied to a metal chair in the middle of an abandoned warehouse. Rusted beams and broken windows surround him. A laptop sits open on a table nearby. Standing in front of it, back turned, is Hammerhead. Herman tries to speak, but there's tape over his mouth.

HAMMERHEAD
(to laptop)
Don't worry, boss.
(glances over his shoulder)
They won't refuse.

Herman looks to his right. Phineas Mason is tied to another chair, also gagged. He squirms and tries to shout, but only muffled noises escape. Hammerhead finally turns around.

HAMMERHEAD
Well, look who's finally awake.
(gestures lazily)
Let 'em speak.

Two men step out of the shadows. They rip the tape from Herman and Phineas' mouths before retreating back into the darkness. Phineas immediately panics.

PHINEAS
(sobbing)
It wasn't me! It was all Spencer's fault! I told him we should pay you back, I swear!

Hammerhead chuckles, clearly entertained. He slowly walks toward Phineas.

HAMMERHEAD
Relax. We ain't your debt collectors.
(leans closer)
We're worse.

PHINEAS
How do you even know about that? Who are you?!

Hammerhead straightens himself

HAMMERHEAD
Me? I'm just a guy trying to do his job.

He taps the laptop behind him.

HAMMERHEAD
It's the Big Man you should be worried about.

Herman struggles against the restraints.

HERMAN
Let us go! We don't care who you are, we didn't take anything or kill any of your men!

Hammerhead slowly turns toward him. His expression hardens.

HAMMERHEAD
Kid... you have no idea who you're dealing with.

He steps closer.

HAMMERHEAD
Under normal circumstances? You'd already be dead.

Hammerhead leans down slightly.

HAMMERHEAD
So I'd watch that tone.

A voice from the laptop clears its throat. Hammerhead glances back at the screen briefly, then turns his attention to the two captives.

HAMMERHEAD
Herman Schultz. Phineas Mason.

HERMAN
(frowns)
How do you know our names?

HAMMERHEAD
The Big Man's been looking for you both. You're wanted criminals. Been on the run for years now, pulling small-time jobs with stolen tech.

He gestures toward Phineas.

HAMMERHEAD
All amplified by him.

Phineas swallows nervously.

PHINEAS
What do you want from me? Money? Tech?

Hammerhead smirks.

HAMMERHEAD
Nothing like that. Just your... very unique set of skills.

He slowly circles them.

HAMMERHEAD
Truth is, you two have been on the Big Man's radar for a while now.

Herman squints, studying Hammerhead's face.

HERMAN
Wait... You're the guy from the subway. The one who tipped me off about that stash house. It was bait!

Hammerhead chuckles.

HAMMERHEAD
Looks like there really are two geniuses in this operation.

He stops in front of them.

HAMMERHEAD
You two will do right for the job.

PHINEAS
"Job"? What job?

The voice on the laptop finally speaks.

???
I'm so glad you asked...

Hammerhead steps aside, revealing the screen.

ON SCREEN:
A large silhouette of a man sits in darkness, his face completely hidden.

HAMMERHEAD
Gentlemen...

Herman leans forward. Phineas shifts uncomfortably in his seat.

HAMMERHEAD
Meet the man behind New York's biggest crimes in the past five years. Meet the man responsible for you being alive tonight...
(pauses dramatically)
Meet... the Big Man.

The Big Man leans forward a little.

THE BIG MAN
Thank you, Joseph.
(clears throat)
I brought you here tonight to offer you something. Something I'm confident you won't refuse.

Phineas exhales in relief. Herman leans back slightly in his chair, still cautious.

HERMAN
Alright... What do you want?

THE BIG MAN
Simple. I want the two of you to work for me. No more petty thefts. No more scavenging for scraps of technology. You'll have access to resources it would've taken you years to acquire on your own.
(pauses)
And in return... you do exactly what I say.

HERMAN
I don't trust you. It all seems to good to be true. What exactly will you have us doing?

Hammerhead shifts slightly, clearly annoyed by Herman's tone. But the Big Man remains calm.

THE BIG MAN
Phineas... you'll be given a proper workspace. Equipment. Funding. Everything you need to refine and expand your technology.

Phineas' eyes light up.

THE BIG MAN
You'll upgrade your own gear... and the gear of my organization.

He turns his attention to Herman.

THE BIG MAN
And you, Herman... will be given rank.

Herman raises an eyebrow.

THE BIG MAN
Using Phineas' work, you'll command a small force of men equipped with weapons powerful enough to tear through the police. You'll be... quite unstoppable.

Phineas grins widely.

THE BIG MAN
You'll carry out operations under my name. Operations far more profitable than the street crimes you've been risking your lives for.

Phineas is practically vibrating with excitement. Herman smirks slightly, but he's still wary.

HERMAN
What's the catch?

The Big Man chuckles softly.

THE BIG MAN
No catch. You follow orders... And you'll be paid very handsomely.

Phineas doesn't hesitate.

PHINEAS
Yes! Oh, absolutely! I am in!

The Big Man nods approvingly.

THE BIG MAN
Excellent.

He looks toward Herman.

THE BIG MAN
And you, Herman?

Herman thinks for a moment. He glances at Hammerhead, who stands nearby with his arms crossed.

HERMAN
Oh, what the hell? Why not?

Phineas cheers.

PHINEAS
Yes! We're gonna be rich!

Hammerhead shakes his head slightly, unimpressed. The Big Man's silhouette leans back in his chair.

THE BIG MAN
Wonderful. For now, Herman, you will be given a small team of crooks to start with. Joseph... you know what to do.

Hammerhead nods. He gestures toward the men waiting in the shadows. They step forward and untie Herman and Phineas. Both men stand, stretching their sore arms.

HAMMERHEAD
They'll show you to your new base of operations.
(unenthusiastically)
Welcome to the family.

Phineas beams with excitement as he and Herman follow the men toward another section of the warehouse.

PHINEAS (OFF SCREEN)
I'm gonna buy a car... maybe a house...
(overtaken with excitement)
Oh! And maybe even-

Their voices fade as they disappear down the hallway. Hammerhead watches them leave, clearly unimpressed. He frowns slightly before turning back to the laptop.

HAMMERHEAD
Do we really need more on the payroll, boss? Especially those two?

The Big Man chuckles.

THE BIG MAN
Of course not. They're merely a distraction.

Hammerhead tilts his head slightly.

THE BIG MAN
The Breakout is happening tomorrow. Don't you remember?

HAMMERHEAD
Yeah... I remember. But who exactly are they supposed to distract? The cops?

The Big Man laughs again.

THE BIG MAN
Please. The police are irrelevant.

He leans slightly forward in the darkness.

THE BIG MAN
They're here to keep away the one man capable of ruining everything. The one man who could stop my entire operation single-handedly.

Hammerhead raises an eyebrow.

THE BIG MAN
They're here to lure away-

[MEANWHILE...]
INT. OSBORN PENTHOUSE – HARRY'S ROOM – NIGHT

Peter and Harry lounge on beanbag chairs in the middle of Harry's large bedroom. A massive TV glows in front of them as they play Battleverse on Harry's Stark Industries gaming console. Both are focused on the match, controllers in hand.

HARRY
Yeah, after yesterday Gwen and I were on the phone for hours.
(smiles)
She actually went to bed early tonight because we stayed up talking all night.

PETER
Aren't you exhausted?

Harry shrugs casually.

HARRY
Eh. I used to pull all-nighters all the time back in middle school.

He taps the controller confidently.

HARRY
I'll survive.

ON SCREEN:
Harry's goblin-like character lands the final hit on Peter's spider-themed ninja.

VICTORY!

ON SCREEN:
The goblin character lets out a mischievous cackle.

Harry pumps his fist in the air.

HARRY
Yes!

Peter leans forward in disbelief.

PETER
What?! No way!

He points accusingly at the screen.

PETER
You're cheating!

Harry bursts out laughing.

HARRY
Nope. Just admit you're terrible at this game.

PETER
Never.

He grabs his controller tighter.

PETER
Round two. Let's go.

Peter is about to start another match when his phone begins to ring. He takes it out of his pocket and sees that Aunt May is calling him.

PETER
Hang on, Aunt May's calling.

Harry sets his controller down as Peter answers.

PETER
Hello?

AUNT MAY (CALL)
Peter... Do you know what time it is?

Peter glances down at the clock on his phone.

11:31PM

His eyes widen.

PETER
Oh crap! I'm so sorry Aunt May. I totally lost track of time! I'll head home right now.

Peter jumps up and starts scrambling to gather his things. He grabs his backpack and struggles to pull on one of his shoes. Meanwhile, Harry casually checks his phone, not nearly as stressed.

AUNT MAY (CALL)
It's alright, Peter. Just make sure you get here safely.
(pause)
Do you need me to come pick you up?

Peter finally forces his shoe on.

PETER
Got it! Uh, no I'll catch a cab.

AUNT MAY (CALL)
Alright, be safe.

The call ends. Harry sets his phone down and looks over at him.

HARRY
So... I guess Round Two isn't happening tonight?

Peter slings his backpack over his shoulder.

PETER
Don't worry.
(smiles)
We'll have our rematch someday.

Peter heads toward the door. Harry stands up and follows him out.

INT. OSBORN PENTHOUSE – HALLWAYS – NIGHT

Peter and Harry walk down the long hallway toward the staircase.

HARRY
So before you go... where do you think I should take Gwen for our first date?

Peter thinks for a moment as they head down the stairs.

PETER
Well... you could grab coffee, go for a walk in the park-

HARRY
Pfft, that's lame! I want a cool first date.

PETER
And what could Harry Theopolis Osborn possibly consider a "cool" date?

Harry rubs his chin, thinking dramatically.

HARRY
Hmm... An expensive restaurant. Maybe a fancy ballroom dance.
(pauses)
I could keep going.

Peter laughs.

PETER
Harry, that's where you take your wife for your anniversary. Not your girlfriend on the first date.

Harry shrugs confidently.

HARRY
Yeah, well...
(smiles)
She'll be my wife soon enough.

Peter raises an eyebrow at that. They reach the bottom of the stairs and start heading toward the elevators.

DING!

The elevator doors slide open. A sharply dressed man in a business suit steps out. It's Norman Osborn. Harry straightens immediately, surprised.

HARRY
Dad? I didn't know you were coming home tonight.

Norman glances briefly at Peter, then back to Harry.

NORMAN
I won't be long. I have to be heading out soon.

Peter stands there awkwardly for a moment before speaking up.

PETER
Uh, hi. I'm Peter. Peter Parker.

Norman smirks slightly.

NORMAN
I know who you are.

Peter blinks, surprised.

PETER
Y-you do?

NORMAN
You got second place at the Oscorp internship competition a while back. I rarely forget a face.

Peter straightens up a little.

NORMAN
Harry has told me quite a bit about you.

He walks a step closer.

NORMAN
You're talented. Intelligent. Capable.

Peter smiles, flattered. Nearby, Harry quietly crosses his arms, a hint of jealousy creeping in.

NORMAN
You know, I'm something of a scientist myself. Your performance in that competition was quite impressive. Perhaps when you graduate, you might consider working at Oscorp. You could become one of my scientists.

Peter's eyes widen.

PETER
Really? Wow! That's incredibly generous, Mr. Osborn. Thank you!

Norman chuckles lightly.

NORMAN
Don't thank me, my boy. Thank Harry here. He's spoken very highly of you.

Harry shifts slightly, not enjoying how impressed his father seems with Peter.

HARRY
Yeah, that's great and all, but Pete's gotta head out, Dad. His aunt's waiting for him.

PETER
Right, yeah. I'm already late for curfew. It was really nice meeting you, Mr. Osborn.

Norman smiles politely.

NORMAN
Please... call me Norman. It was a pleasure meeting you as well, Peter.

Peter turns to Harry.

PETER
See you Monday, Harry. And I'm still getting that Round Two.

HARRY
(slight chuckle)
Yeah, see ya...

Peter steps into the elevator and the doors slide shut behind him. Harry watches the elevator for a moment as Norman glances at him thoughtfully. He then adjusts his suit and tie.

HARRY
So... where are you going now?

NORMAN
Business trip. I'll be gone for a few weeks.Houseman will look after you.

Harry mutters under his breath.

HARRY
Yeah... like he always does.

Norman stops and slowly turns toward him.

NORMAN
What was that?

HARRY
Nothing.

Norman steps closer, his tone sharpening.

NORMAN
Don't play dumb with me, boy. You think I have all the time in the world to sit around this house listening to your complaints?

Harry looks down at the floor. He doesn't answer.

NORMAN
You want me around more often? Then give me a reason.

Norman gestures around the massive penthouse.

NORMAN
I spend every waking hour building a future for you. This penthouse. This life. And what do you do with it?
(scoffs)
You sit in your room all day playing video games and wasting your potential.

Harry's fist clenches. Still... he says nothing.

NORMAN
I don't want to hear another complaint out of you. Do I make myself clear?

Harry nods slowly.

HARRY
...Yes, sir.

NORMAN
Good.

Norman turns and heads up the stairs. Harry remains standing there, silent. A single tear rolls down his cheek. He quickly wipes it away. At that moment, Houseman walks down the hallway and notices Norman.

HOUSEMAN
Mr. Osborn. Welcome Home.

NORMAN
I won't be long, Houseman. I'm going on a business trip for a few weeks.
(glances back towards Harry)
Make sure Harry stays out of trouble.

HOUSEMAN
Of course, sir.

Norman enters his room and shuts the door behind him. Harry stands there for a moment before turning and walking toward the large kitchen and living room area.Houseman quietly follows him.

HOUSEMAN
Master Harry... would you like me to prepare some dinner?

Harry opens one of the kitchen cabinets and pulls out a large bag of chips.

HARRY
No. I'll just be in my room.

He turns to leave, but Houseman gently places a hand on his shoulder. Harry stops.

HOUSEMAN
Chips for dinner isn't very healthy, Master Harry. Are you sure you wouldn't like something else?

HARRY
I'm fine.
(sigh)
I'm just... feeling unhealthy today.

Houseman gives him a knowing look.

HOUSEMAN
We both know this isn't about the chips.
(pause)
I heard everything.

Harry looks down at the floor. There's a quiet moment between them. Then Houseman speaks softly.

HOUSEMAN
You know... my father was never home either. I barely knew the man.

Harry slowly looks up.

HOUSEMAN
But you know who I did have? My wife, Elizabeth.

His voice softens.

HOUSEMAN
She was my entire world. And when she died... it felt like a piece of me died with her.

Harry's expression softens.

HARRY
I'm... sorry for your loss.

Houseman nods gently.

HOUSEMAN
When I first moved to New York to begin working for Mr. Osborn... you were just a little boy. Your mother was very ill and your father was doing everything he could to try to save her.

Harry's jaw tightens as he tries to hold back tears.

HOUSEMAN
But whenever I saw you... you were always alone.

He smiles faintly.

HOUSEMAN
So one day I took you out for ice cream. Do you remember that?

Harry nods slowly.

HOUSEMAN
It was the first time I had seen you smile since I arrived... and in that moment, I made a decision.

Houseman places a gentle hand on Harry's shoulder.

HOUSEMAN
I decided I would spend the rest of my years making sure that little boy never had to grow up alone.

Harry's eyes begin to water.

HOUSEMAN
That's why I signed you up for public school. That's why I've stayed all these years. And it's why, no matter what, I will never leave your side, Master Harry.

A tear rolls down Harry's cheek. He steps forward and hugs Houseman tightly.

HARRY
Thank you... For always being there.

Houseman hugs him back.

HOUSEMAN
Anything for you, Master Harry.

[ELSEWHERE...]
EXT. QUEENS NEIGHBORHOOD – NIGHT

Spider-Man swings through the quiet neighborhood. He lands lightly on the roof of the Parker residence. His backpack nearly slips from his shoulder, and he quickly grabs it before it falls.

SPIDER-MAN
Whoa! Almost lost the homework.

He crawls carefully across the roof toward his bedroom window. Slowly... he begins to lift it open.

CREEEAK...

The bedroom door opens. Peter freezes. Aunt May walks in carrying an empty laundry basket. Spider-Man quickly pulls himself up onto the roof, out of sight.

SPIDER-MAN (THINKING)
Crap... why now, May?

Inside the room, Aunt May begins picking up Peter's scattered clothes from the floor and chair, tossing them into the basket. Spider-Man waits nervously just above the window. Aunt May grabs the last shirt and turns to leave.

WHOOSH.

A cold breeze makes her shiver. She pauses, slowly turning toward the window. Outside, Spider-Man quickly climbs higher onto the roof, pressing himself flat against the shingles. Aunt May walks over to the window.

AUNT MAY
(shaking her head)
Peter... always leaving the window open.

She closes the window and locks it.

CLICK.

She walks out of the room, closing the bedroom door.  A moment later, Spider-Man cautiously lowers himself back down to the window. He tries to pull it open. Nothing. He pulls harder. Still nothing.

SPIDER-MAN
Oh come on...

He sighs and glances down toward the backyard.

SPIDER-MAN (THINKING)
Guess we're doing this the hard way.

He adjusts his backpack. He then runs across the roof and leaps off, landing silently behind the backyard shed.

[A FEW MINUTES LATER]

Now back in his civilian clothes, Peter steps out from behind the shed. He walks up to the back door and tries the handle.

CLICK.

It's locked. Peter groans.

PETER
Mother-!

He stops himself and exhales.

PETER
Great... guess it's the front door.

He walks over to the backyard gate, opens it, and quietly shuts it behind him before heading toward the front of the house. Peter slips off his backpack and digs through it, searching for his keys. He checks one pocket, doesn't find anything. He then checks another and still nothing.

PETER
Stupid... keys!

He looks up. Across the yard, his next-door neighbor, PHILIP WATSON, sits on the porch of the Watson house, slowly smoking a cigar while watching Peter. Peter freezes for a moment, then forces an awkward smile and waves.

PETER
Uh... hi there.

Philip doesn't respond. He just squints at Peter, letting out a low, disapproving grunt through the cigar smoke. Peter clears his throat awkwardly and turns to the door, knocking.

KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.

A moment later, the door opens.

AUNT MAY
Peter? Why didn't you use your keys?

Peter rubs the back of his neck.

PETER
I... uh... lost them. Sorry. I don't even know where I left them.

Aunt May sighs softly.

AUNT MAY
It's alright.

She steps aside.

AUNT MAY
Come in.

Peter walks inside.

INT. PARKER RESIDENCE – NIGHT

Aunt May closes the door behind Peter and heads into the laundry room, starting the washing machine and placing clothes inside. Peter drops his backpack on the couch.

PETER

May, what do you know about the Watsons?

AUNT MAY (OFF SCREEN)
(from laundry room)
Well, from what Anna tells me... they're a little dysfunctional. Why do you ask?

Peter sits on the couch and pulls his laptop out of his backpack.

PETER
I just saw the dad outside. I think his name was Philip? He seemed kind of... angry for no reason.

AUNT MAY (OFF SCREEN)
(sighs)
He's a little... troubled, Peter. But if you're worried about his wife and daughter, I assure you they're fine.

Peter doesn't respond. Instead, he pulls out his phone and opens his texts with Liz. We see several messages from Peter, none answered. Aunt May walks into the living room carrying an empty laundry basket. She notices Peter staring at his phone.

AUNT MAY
You're not still seeing Liz... are you?

Peter quickly puts the phone down and looks up.

PETER
We're...
(he hesitates)
Things didn't go so great yesterday. But we're still friends.

Aunt May softens.

AUNT MAY
I'm sorry, Peter.

She thinks for a moment.

AUNT MAY
How about this... Anna suggested that you and Mary Jane have a sleepover sometime. You know... so you two can get to know each other better.

Peter nearly jumps off the couch.

PETER
What?! May-!

Aunt May raises a hand.

AUNT MAY
If you don't want to, that's perfectly fine. But the offer's there if you ever change your mind, alright?

Peter leans back on the couch and nods slowly.

AUNT MAY
And go to bed soon. Just because it's the weekend doesn't mean you can stay up all night.

Aunt May heads upstairs. Peter sits there quietly. He picks up his phone again and looks at the messages with Liz. He begins typing.

PETER (TEXT)
Hey Liz. Just checking on you. I hope everything's okay.

He waits a moment. Still no response. Peter sets the phone down.

PETER
(whispering to himself)
I really messed up...

EXT. ALLEY – NIGHT

Hammerhead stands in a dim alley, flanked by two bodyguards. Across from him stands Sandman, arms crossed.

HAMMERHEAD
The Big Man appreciates your cooperation with these recent jobs. Especially tomorrow's. Have you met with the resources?

Sandman nods, though he looks distracted.

HAMMERHEAD
You won't have to worry about Spider-Man tomorrow. We've got that covered.

Sandman scoffs.

SANDMAN
I could've handled him either way.

Hammerhead smirks.

HAMMERHEAD
Maybe. But once this mission is finished... you and Aleksei will have some new partners.

Sandman raises an eyebrow.

SANDMAN
Partners?

HAMMERHEAD
We recently recruited a couple new guys.

INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE – NIGHT

Phineas Mason works at a cluttered workbench, welding a metallic gauntlet with a blowtorch.

HAMMERHEAD (VOICEOVER)
One of them's the brains...

Nearby, Herman Schultz studies a map laid out on a table while speaking to the Big Man on a laptop.

HAMMERHEAD (VOICEOVER)
The other's the muscle.

Across the room, a few crooks help Phineas assemble a reinforced suit on a mannequin. The armor resembles Shocker's iconic design.

HAMMERHEAD (VOICEOVER)
Right now we only have time to give the muscle enough tech to keep Spider-Man busy...

Phineas tightens a bolt on the gauntlet. The suit is nearly complete.

EXT. ALLEY – NIGHT

Hammerhead folds his arms.

HAMMERHEAD
But after tomorrow...
(smiles)
We'll be one big, unstoppable family.

Sandman nods slowly, processing everything. He then turns away.

SANDMAN
Speaking of families... I should get back to mine.

Hammerhead's smile fades slightly.

HAMMERHEAD
Just remember, don't even think about backing out now. Because we will find you.

Sandman doesn't even look back.

SANDMAN
Yeah... whatever. Tell the Big Man I'll be ready.

His body suddenly breaks apart into swirling sand. The cloud of sand rises into the night sky and disappears.

[IN A QUIET AND ISOLATED APARTMENT COMPLEX...]
INT. MARKO RESIDENCE – NIGHT

Outside the apartment building, a cloud of swirling sand drifts toward a fire escape. It lands on the access ladder. The sand gathers together, reforming into Sandman. He climbs onto the platform and quietly opens the apartment window.

He slips inside and the moment his feet hit the floor, a frying pan flies at his head.

WHOOSH!

Sandman ducks easily as it clatters against the wall.

SANDMAN
Emma, it's me!

Across the room, EMMA MARKO stands gripping another frying pan like a weapon, furious.

EMMA
I know! That's why I threw it!

She swings the pan at him. Sandman blocks her arm, carefully holding it still without hurting her.

EMMA
Let go of me!

He immediately releases her. Emma raises the pan again but this time she hesitates. They stare at each other for a moment that feels like forever. She slowly puts the pan down.

EMMA
If you want a place to hide, you won't find it here.

SANDMAN
Emma, listen... I just wanna see Keemia, okay? Nothing else.

Emma crosses her arms.

EMMA

She's asleep in her room. But you better not-

Before she can finish, Sandman dissolves into a soft cloud of sand and glides down the hallway into Keemia's bedroom.

INT. MARKO RESIDENCE –  KEEMIA'S ROOM – NIGHT

The sand reforms into Sandman beside the bed. Keemia stirs, then suddenly sits up.

KEEMIA
Daddy!

She jumps out of bed and wraps her arms around him.

KEEMIA
You're back!

He hugs her tightly.

SANDMAN
Hey, sweetheart...
(smiles softly)
I can't stay long.

Emma appears in the doorway, arms crossed.

EMMA
Good. Because you're not welcome.

Sandman sighs.

SANDMAN
Emma, please... don't start.

EMMA
I didn't start anything. You're the one who just walked in here like you still own the place.

Sandman looks at her, frustrated.

SANDMAN
I do own this place.

Emma scoffs.

EMMA
Not for long. My lawyers are working on getting it transferred into my name. And when that happens, the next time you step foot in here, I'm calling the police.

Keemia begins crying in Sandman's arms. He gently lifts her face so she looks at him.

SANDMAN
Hey... hey... It's okay.

KEEMIA
(crying)
Why can't you and Mommy love each other like you used to? Why do you have to be so mean to each other?

Silence fills the room. Emma looks down at the floor, ashamed. Sandman takes a breath.

SANDMAN
It's... complicated. But you need to remember something.

He wipes a tear from her cheek.

SANDMAN
Your mom and I both love you very much. Always.

Keemia sniffles. He gently sets her back in bed and tucks the blanket around her.

SANDMAN
I don't know when I'll be back again... But I promise I'll see you soon. Okay?

Keemia nods. She hugs him one more time before lying back down. Flint stands and walks toward the door. Emma quietly steps aside to let him pass. She reaches into the room and turns off the light. She then gently closes Keemia's bedroom door.

INT. MARKO RESIDENCE –  LIVING ROOM – NIGHT

Sandman forms into a swirling cloud of sand and drifts toward the window. Just as he's about to leave, Emma enters the living room.

EMMA
You're lucky I can't afford a divorce.
(pause)
Not that it matters anyway... the whole world thinks you're dead.

Sandman stops mid-step. He doesn't turn around yet. Emma's voice softens slightly.

EMMA
The world might not know you're still alive... But I do.

She hesitates before continuing.

EMMA
And sometimes... I wish I didn't.

Sandman slowly turns to face her, struggling to keep his composure.

SANDMAN
I understand.
(quietly)
And I'm sorry... for everything I've put you and Keemia through.

He takes a small step toward her. Emma instinctively steps back in fear. Sandman notices immediately and stops. He steps back, giving her space.

SANDMAN
But I'm trying to make it right.

Emma sniffles, tears forming in her eyes.

EMMA
Why did you have to do it, Flint?

Her voice cracks.

EMMA
We would've been fine if you hadn't-

She stops herself before finishing the sentence. He lowers his head, guilt written across his face. The silence lingers. After a moment, he finally looks up.

SANDMAN
I'm doing this for Keemia.
(pause)
If you never want to see me again... I understand. But I need you to know something.

His voice softens.

SANDMAN
I'll always love you. Both of you. No matter what happens.

Tears roll down Emma's face. She struggles to hold herself together.

EMMA
(voice breaking)
Just... go.

Flint turns back toward the window. He pauses for one last glance at her. Then his body dissolves into a gust of sand that blows out into the night. Emma stands there alone in the quiet apartment.

[OTTO, ADRIAN AND ALEKSEI ARE STILL IN PRISON, WAITING PATIENTLY TO BE FREED.]
INT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – CELL BLOCK – NIGHT

Otto Octavius sits restrained inside a specialized containment cell. Heavy steel restraints and cables bind his arms to the wall, preventing his mechanical tentacles from moving freely. Otto shifts uncomfortably, trying to adjust his position.

OTTO
(to himself)
I hate this... Weeks trapped in this miserable cage... And all because of you!!

His mechanical arms hum softly behind him. Otto glares at them.

OTTO
Don't you dare mock me! I am your master... and you do what I say. Understood?

The arms hum louder, almost defiantly. Across the hall, in another cell, Adrian Toomes sits at a desk sketching in a notebook. On the lower bunk behind him, Aleksei Sytsevich sleeps loudly. Adrian glances over his shoulder at Otto.

ADRIAN
Will you shut up already?

He goes back to sketching. Otto looks over curiously.

OTTO
What are you working on over there, Toomes?

ADRIAN
(sighs)
A rough outline for my Vulture 3.0 suit.

Adrian tosses the sketchbook across the hall. It slides through the bars and into Otto's cell. Otto snatches it and studies the design carefully.

OTTO
As your fellow inmate, I feel obligated to say it looks promising...
(pause)
But as a fellow engineer...

He tosses the book back.

OTTO
it's garbage.

Adrian scowls.

ADRIAN
If it's so "garbage," then why don't you design something better?

Otto smirks. His metal claws shift slightly behind him.

OTTO
I already did... And look where that brilliance landed me.

Adrian scoffs.

ADRIAN
Please. Those tentacles are nothing special. Once we get out of here, I'll build something far superior.

Adrian picks up the sketchbook and returns to drawing. Otto leans back against his restraints.

OTTO
Speaking of leaving... Are we really trusting this Aleksei character? Flint Marko is dead. There's no way he's coming back for him.

Adrian chuckles.

ADRIAN
A man as intelligent as you should know that's nonsense. You studied Marko's remains, didn't you? Do you really believe it's impossible he survived?

Otto's eyes widen slightly. The realization hits him.

OTTO
You're right... Even a single grain of sand... a single atom... He could still be out there.

Otto looks back at Adrian.

OTTO
Even so, why would he go through the trouble of breaking Aleksei out? Or any of us, for that matter?

Adrian closes the notebook and turns toward him.

ADRIAN
There's a saying my father used to tell me. "A man who buys you lunch captures your afternoon. But the man who saves your life captures your eternity..."

Otto raises an eyebrow.

ADRIAN
From what I've heard about Marko's "great escape"... Aleksei saved his life. Which means the man they call the Sandman owes him a debt. Whether he likes it or not.

Otto smiles. The smile grows into a quiet laugh.

OTTO
Well then, with Marko and Aleksei's help, we'll get out of here... and we'll destroy Spider-Man and Norman Osborn! They'll both pay!

Adrian begins laughing too.

ADRIAN
Now that is a future I can get behind.

Their laughter echoes through the cell block. On the bunk, Aleksei stirs, half-awake, rolling toward the wall.

CLANG! CLANG!

A night patrol guard slams his baton against Otto's cell bars.

NIGHT PATROL GUARD
Knock it off!

Silence slowly returns to the cell block.

[THE NEXT DAY]
SUNDAY MAY 3, 2015.
INT. THE DAILY BUGLE – ROOFTOP – MORNING

Spider-Man swings in and lands on the rooftop, rolling across the gravel before popping back onto his feet. He quickly pulls off his backpack and rummages through it, pulling out his camera, a change of clothes, and photos of Spider-Man stopping a bank robbery.

[A FEW MINUTES LATER]

Now dressed in his civilian clothes, Peter tosses the backpack toward the wall beside the rooftop entrance.

THWIP!

A web shoots out, pinning the backpack neatly to the wall. Peter adjusts the stack of photos and his camera before heading inside.

INT. THE DAILY BUGLE – STAIRWELL – NIGHT

Peter rushes down the stairs two at a time. He nearly slips on one step, but quickly catches himself and keeps moving.

INT. THE DAILY BUGLE – NEWSROOM – MORNING

Peter bursts into the busy newsroom, weaving between desks while trying not to drop his camera or the photos. As he passes, Robbie Robertson looks up from his desk.

ROBERTSON
Hey, Peter. John is in his office. He's been waiting for you!

PETER
Thanks, Mr. Robertson!

Peter hurries past Betty Brant's desk. She merely glances up.

BETTY
Good morning, Peter.

PETER
Morning!

He reaches Jameson's office door. Peter pauses for a second, straightening the photos and catching his breath. Then he carefully opens the door.

INT. THE DAILY BUGLE – JAMESON'S OFFICE – MORNING

Peter enters the office and shuts the door behind him. Inside, Eddie Brock is already there, leaning casually against a chair. J. Jonah Jameson sits at his desk, studying a set of photographs.

PETER
Good morning, boss.

Jameson doesn't even look up.

JAMESON
You're late.

PETER
Sorry, Mr. Jameson, but I got pictures from that bank robbery Spider-Man stopped this morning-

JAMESON
(interrupting)
Sorry, Mr. Parker, but Brock here already brought me some Spider-Man pictures. So now I have to decide which one ends up on today's article.

Peter glances over at Eddie, who wears his usual smug grin.

EDDIE

Sorry, Peter. I just happened to be in the neighborhood.

Peter sits down, annoyed.

PETER (THINKING)
Can't say I've missed Eddie's attitude. And I actually felt bad for him yesterday...

Peter hands Jameson his photos. Jameson lays them next to Eddie's. Peter's photo shows Spider-Man stopping a car chase. Eddie's photo shows Spider-Man brutally choking a criminal in midair. Jameson's eyes light up, a grin spreading across his face, as he studies Eddie's photo.

JAMESON
Sorry, Parker. But Brock wins this one.

Peter jolts forward.

PETER
What?! No way, lemme see that!

Peter snatches Eddie's photo from the desk. His expression slowly drops. The photo clearly shows Spider-Man choking the criminal.

PETER (THINKING)
Wait... I never did that.

PETER
Spider-Man never choked that guy!

Eddie raises an eyebrow, still smiling.

EDDIE
How would you know? You weren't there.

Jameson snatches the picture back from Peter.

JAMESON
Doesn't matter, Mr. Parker. A picture's a picture. And for once it's on quality with yours.
(turns to Eddie)
Good job, Brock.

EDDIE
Thank you.

Peter clenches his jaw but stays quiet.

JAMESON
If you want to keep your job, Parker, I suggest you get me pictures on par with this one! Pictures that expose Spider-Man for who he really is!

Jameson slams the photos onto the desk.

JAMESON
Now both of you, GET OUT OF MY OFFICE!!

INT. THE DAILY BUGLE – NEWSROOM – MORNING

Peter storms out of Jameson's office and walks past Betty's desk, staring straight ahead.

BETTY
Peter? Is everything okay?

Peter gives a quick nod without stopping.

PETER
Yeah. I'm fine.

He pushes open the stairwell door and disappears inside. The door closes behind him. A moment later, Eddie approaches Betty's desk.

EDDIE
Hey.

Betty smiles warmly.

BETTY
Hey, you.
(pauses)
Ready for tonight?

Eddie nods, but the smile doesn't quite reach his eyes. Betty notices immediately.

BETTY
You know... we don't have to hang out tonight if you're not up for it. I know everything with your friend, Max, is still pretty fresh.

Eddie finally manages a small smile.

EDDIE
No, it's okay. Honestly, I could use the distraction. Norma still hasn't answered any of my calls.

Betty stands up and gently kisses him on the cheek.

BETTY
Don't worry. She's probably just dealing with it in her own way. She'll come around.

Eddie smiles more genuinely now.

EDDIE
Thanks. I'll see you tonight... at my place.

Betty pokes his chest playfully.

BETTY
You better be ready, Eddie. I'm gonna make tonight unforgettable.

Eddie blushes and chuckles awkwardly. Betty taps his cheek twice.

BETTY
I meant with my soup. See you later.

Eddie laughs and heads toward the elevators. Betty sits back down at her desk. Nearby, Robbie Robertson has clearly been watching the whole exchange with an amused smile.

ROBERTSON
Ooh... Ms. Brant. I love to see young love.

Betty smiles but shakes her head while returning to her work.

BETTY
Nothing like that, Mr. Robertson. We're just friends.

Robertson raises an eyebrow knowingly.

ROBERTSON
Mm-hmm. Sure, honey. Just make sure you make the right choice with this one.

Betty continues typing, still smiling. Her eyes drift to a small note on her desk, the one Eddie gave her weeks ago. She glances at it for a moment before returning to work.

[MEANWHILE...]
EXT. STREETS OF NEW YORK – NOON

Spider-Man swings away from the Daily Bugle rooftop, soaring between skyscrapers. He lands briefly on the window of a nearby building, sprinting across the glass before leaping back into the air and firing another web.

THWIP!

SPIDER-MAN
First I gotta deal with Liz ignoring me... now this?
(sigh)
Why does everything go wrong in my life?

He swings past a ledge where a pigeon had been pecking seconds earlier, startling it into flight.

SPIDER-MAN
I know for a fact I didn't choke that guy! Where did Eddie even get that picture?

As he swings over another block, he glances down. On a rooftop below, two small gangs are gathered in a tense standoff. Their leaders argue loudly.

GANG 1 LEADER
He's taking it all! And one of you's snitching out locations to him!

GANG 2 LEADER
We ain't doing nothin'! It's you who keeps luring the Big Man to our stash houses!

SPIDER-MAN (THINKING)
The Big Man?

Suddenly, Gang 1's leader pulls out a gun and points it directly at the other leader.

GANG 1 LEADER
What's up with it, huh?!

Instantly, everyone pulls weapons. Guns are aimed and fingers are on triggers. Spider-Man winces.

SPIDER-MAN (THINKING)
Whoa. That escalated quickly. Better shut this down before someone gets hurt.
(perks up)
Actually... perfect chance to try that move I've been working on.

THWIP!

A web shoots out, snatching the gun from Gang 1's leader's hand and yanking Spider-Man straight toward him.

WHAM!

Spider-Man dropkicks him in the face. The gangs freeze in shock. Spider-Man flips into the air, spinning as his wrists fire webs in every direction.

THWIP-THWIP-THWIP-THWIP-THWIP-THWIP!

Webs explode outward like a spiraling blossom, wrapping around arms, legs, pipes, and vents. Gangsters are yanked off their feet, glued to walls, air ducts, and the rooftop entrance.

SPIDER-MAN
You get a web, and you get a web, and you get a web! Everybody gets a web!

A few seconds later, every gangster is completely webbed up. Spider-Man lands in the middle of the rooftop. He wipes imaginary sweat from his brow.

SPIDER-MAN
Phew. That worked way better than expected.

He checks his web shooters. There's barely any fluid left.

SPIDER-MAN
...But it was expensive. My webbing's almost gone.

Spider-Man notices one of the gangsters trying to crawl away, still tangled in webs. Spider-Man strolls over casually and grabs him by the collar, lifting him slightly.

SPIDER-MAN
Hey there. Let's play 20 questions. I'll start. Who's the Big Man?

The gangster spits in Spider-Man's face. Spider-Man just stands there for a moment.

SPIDER-MAN
You do realize I'm wearing a mask, right?

GANGSTER
I ain't telling you nothing!

Spider-Man slowly pulls back his fist.

SPIDER-MAN
Okay. We'll try this the hard-

GANGSTER
W-wait! Wait! Never mind! I'll talk!

Spider-Man lowers his fist.

SPIDER-MAN
Good choice. Let's try again. Who's the Big Man?

GANGSTER
He's the most powerful crime boss in New York right now! Nobody knows who he really is, but he's loaded. He's got the whole city's crime system under his thumb!
(panicking)
That's all I know, I swear!

Spider-Man studies him for a moment. Then he nods.

SPIDER-MAN
You were more helpful than most. Good job.

Spider-Man drops him back onto the rooftop and immediately fires a web.

TTHHWWIIPP!!

The gangster is stuck firmly to the ground. Spider-Man hops up onto the edge of the building.

SPIDER-MAN
You might want to keep that webbing on until the police arrive.
(glances at the sky)
It's a little chilly out here.

He leaps off the building and swings away.

SPIDER-MAN (THINKING)
This "Big Man" sounds like serious trouble. That must be why crime in New York's been going through the roof. First super-villains... now a crime empire? Whoever this Big Man is...

Spider-Man swings between skyscrapers.

SPIDER-MAN (THINKING)
...he made a big mistake coming after my city.

[A FEW HOURS LATER]
INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE – AFTERNOON

Tools and scraps of metal litter the room. Phineas Mason carefully works on the final adjustments of a vibro-gauntlet, sparks flying from a welding torch. Behind him, Herman Schultz approaches.

HERMAN
How's it looking?

PHINEAS
Good. Everything's running perfectly.
(yawns)
But I could really use some sleep.

Phineas tosses the gauntlet to Herman. Herman catches it and slips it onto his arm, admiring it.

HERMAN
Real criminals don't sleep.

PHINEAS
Yeah, well I'm not exactly a criminal anymore.
(gestures around)
Think of me as... technical support for criminals. And honestly? I'm fine with that.

HERMAN
(scoffs)
That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard, Phineas.

Phineas smirks.

PHINEAS
That's not the only thing that's changed. They've started calling me something new around here.

Herman barely listens as he aims the gauntlet at a stack of cans nearby.

VRAAAM!

A shockwave blasts out, launching the cans across the warehouse. Herman grins, impressed.

HERMAN
Oh yeah? And what's that?

Phineas smiles at the sight of the gauntlet working perfectly.

PHINEAS
They call me...

Phineas folds his arms proudly.

TINKERER
the Tinkerer.

Herman laughs under his breath.

HERMAN
Nevermind, that is stupidest thing I've ever heard.

TINKERER
Laugh all you want. For the first time in my life, people actually respect what I can do.

Herman removes the gauntlet and sets it on the workbench.

HERMAN
Yeah, yeah. Whatever.
(glances at his watch)
Is everything ready? I gotta head out in an hour.

The Tinkerer gestures for him to follow and leads him into the next room.

CLICK.

He flips on the light. A spotlight reveals a yellow and brown quilted suit standing on a mannequin. Herman raises an eyebrow.

TINKERER
I call it... the Shocker Suit. You know. Vibro-shocks.

HERMAN
Yeah, yeah. I got it.

The Tinkerer clears his throat, slightly annoyed.

TINKERER
All that's left is mounting the vibro-gauntlets to the suit. Then you'll be ready to go.

Herman nods once.

HERMAN
Good. Get it done.

TINKERER
No problem.

Herman turns to leave, but the moment he does, he bumps straight into Hammerhead.

HAMMERHEAD
The Big Man wants to know when you're leaving.

Herman crosses his arms, completely unimpressed.

HERMAN
Less than an hour.

Hammerhead nods.

HAMMERHEAD
Good. I'm coming with you.
(pause)
In case you need backup.

Herman scoffs.

HERMAN
I don't need your help. I can handle a simple bank job.

Hammerhead's expression hardens.

HAMMERHEAD
Need I remind you... you work for us. Not yourself.

Herman steps a little closer, meeting his stare.

HERMAN
Need I remind you... I work for the Big Man. Not you.

Hammerhead slowly leans in, clearly annoyed.

HAMMERHEAD
These orders come from the Big Man himself.
(leans in)
So I'm coming along... whether you like it or not.

Herman rolls his eyes.

HERMAN
Fine. Hope you enjoy having your time wasted.

Herman walks past him and exits. Hammerhead watches him go, shaking his head with a low growl.

HAMMERHEAD
This kid's gonna get himself killed.

[SOMEWHERE ELSE...]
EXT. ROCKAWAY BEACH – AFTERNOON

Sandman stands near the shoreline, holding a phone to his ear.

THE BIG MAN (CALL)
At 7:40 PM you'll receive a call from the prison warden. He and I go way back. He's willing to help, as long as we keep our mouths shut.
(pause)
Now remember, Marko... get Aleksei and get out. Nothing more, nothing less.

SANDMAN
I understand.

THE BIG MAN (CALL)
Good. I expect you back at the warehouse tonight with Sytsevich.
(hangs up)

Sandman lowers the phone and slips it into his pocket. Nearby, Keemia is happily building a small sandcastle.

KEEMIA
Daddy make it bigger!

Sandman smiles. He lifts his hand slightly. The sand around the castle shifts and rises, forming towers, walls, and intricate details. The tiny castle becomes a huge, beautiful sand fortress. Keemia gasps and giggles before running over and hugging him.

KEEMIA
Yay!

Sandman chuckles softly, though the smile on his face is a little tired. He lifts her into his arms.

SANDMAN
Keemia, I need to tell you something...

Keemia looks at him curiously. Sandman hesitates before speaking.

SANDMAN
Daddy's going to be gone for a little while.

Keemia tilts her head.

KEEMIA
What do you mean?

SANDMAN
It's just work stuff.
(softly)
I'll come find you again, I promise... but I might not be able to see you for a while. Okay?

Keemia nods, accepting it easily.

KEEMIA
Okay!
(frowns slightly)
But Mommy says you're not allowed to see me anymore.

Sandman's smile falters slightly.

SANDMAN
I know.
(pause)
But you didn't tell her you came to see me today... right?

Keemia shakes her head. Sandman kneels down to her level.

SANDMAN
Then maybe we can keep this our little secret.

Keemia smiles.

KEEMIA
When will I see you again?

Sandman's smile slowly fades.

SANDMAN
I... don't know.

He gently sets her back down on the sand.

SANDMAN
I have to go now.
(softly)
But I'll see you again soon. I promise.

Keemia hugs him tightly.

KEEMIA
I love you.

Sandman closes his eyes for a moment, fighting back tears.

SANDMAN
I love you too.

His body dissolves into a swirling gust of sand that rises into the air and drifts away across the beach. Keemia stands there, waving at the fading cloud.

[AN HOUR LATER]
EXT. FIFTH AVENUE – AFTERNOON

SCREECH.

A black unmarked van skids to a stop on Fifth Avenue. Masked, armed crooks jump out, guns raised. Behind them, Herman Schultz leaps from the van, fully suited in his yellow-and-brown Shocker costume. Crowds scream and scatter as the crooks fire shots into the air.

HERMAN
Alright, that's enough.

The crooks cease fire. Herman jerks his head toward the bank ahead. People inside are already ducking and fleeing through back exits. Herman aims his vibro-gauntlets, charging up a pair of blasts.

VRRR-BOOM! CRASH!

The bank's massive front windows shatter in an instant.

INT. BANK – AFTERNOON

Herman and the crooks storm inside. The desk attendant cowers behind her desk. Security guards raise their weapons, but Herman blasts them back with a shockwave, sending them sprawling. Herman strides past the chaos, heading straight for the vault.

CROOK #1
How do we open this?

Herman kneels in front of the lock, producing a lockpick. He works quickly, fingers precise and confident.

HERMAN
I used to crack safes for fun in high school. It's what made me such a good criminal.

CLICK.

He yanks the vault door open with a grunt. Shocker gestures to the crooks.

HERMAN
Get the bags. Fast.

One crook grabs a stack of industrial-sized duffels, passing them out. They quickly fill each bag with stacks of cash while Herman stands watch, eyes scanning the room like a predator.

HERMAN
Make sure these bags are filled to the brim with cash. And don't even think about pocketing anything.

SLAM!

The vault door slams shut. Everyone spins to see Spider-Man holding the handle, crouched and ready.

SPIDER-MAN
Did I do that?

The crooks panic, firing wildly. Spider-Man flips and twists through the hail of bullets, flipping gracefully.

SPIDER-MAN
(dodges)
Whoa, sorry I'm late, fellas! I had a whole thing planned where I'd swing in through the window, but then I realized... there's no windows in here!

Herman glares, turning to the crooks.

HERMAN
Hold your fire! Bags first. I'll deal with the bug.

Spider-Man lands a few feet from Herman, hands on hips.

SPIDER-MAN
So, who are you supposed to be? I like to know who I'm fighting before I send them to jail.

Herman throws a punch and Spider-Man flips out of the way. Another punch, another miss. Spider-Man jumps onto the vault door, landing nimbly. Herman aims his vibro-shock gauntlets, the energy crackling.

SPIDER-MAN
And what do those do? Besides make you look stupid!

VRRR-BAM!

Herman releases a massive charge, launching Spider-Man and the vault door backwards through the front window.

EXT. FIFTH AVENUE – AFTERNOON

The vault door slams onto the pavement. Spider-Man crashes into a brick wall, groaning and rubbing his ribs.

VRRR-BOOM!

Herman leaps out of the bank, landing in front of Spider-Man, gauntlets sparking and ready. Spider-Man dusts himself off, standing tall.

SPIDER-MAN
I don't think you needed those to help you with that.

VRRR-BLAMO!

Herman fires again. Spider-Man twists and flips, narrowly avoiding the blasts.

SPIDER-MAN
(dodging)
So I never got your name! I could give you one if you want! Giving villain names is my specialty.

Herman smirks, pausing briefly, then fires another volley.

SHOCKER
I am the Shocker!

SPIDER-MAN
(dodging, scoffs)
Seriously? You couldn't find something less stupid? Well I guess it matches your intelligence.

SHOCKER
(angry)
I AM NOT STUPID!

One blast hits Spider-Man squarely, sending him skidding across the street. He groans, clutching his ribs, but smirks through the pain.

SPIDER-MAN
Oh, right... vibro-shock tech. Wow, what a "shocker".
(chuckles)

Shocker charges another shot, stepping closer, sparks flying from his gauntlets.

SHOCKER
You dare mock me? I may look like a common crook, but trust me when I say that you're going to have a bad time trying to stop me!

He unleashes a barrage of blasts. Spider-Man barely dodges as the concussive waves tear through the concrete, hitting police cars that were driving towards the scene nearby. Spider-Man looks back, watching as the police cars flips and crashes. He swings toward it to help, but another blast knocks him hard to the ground. Shocker stands over him, gauntlets sparking.

SHOCKER
Get ready to taste concrete, Spider-Man!

SPIDER-MAN
I don't think so, Shocky!

THWIP!

Spider-Man shoots a web at Shocker's goggles, blinding him. He kicks Shocker in the chest, sending him stumbling back, then flips through the air, webbing him up.

THWIP! THWIP! THWIP!

Shocker is tangled in webs, pinned to the pavement. Spider-Man lands.

SPIDER-MAN
Sorry, Shocky. But it's time for-

SLAM!

A heavy blow hits Spider-Man from the side. He skids across the pavement, groaning as he struggles to stand. Above him, Hammerhead cracks his neck, stepping forward.

HAMMERHEAD
First job and the Spider-Man's nearly captured ya... The Big Man's not gonna like this one, Herman.

Shocker strains against the webbing.

SHOCKER
I told you I don't need your help!

Hammerhead rolls his brass-knuckled fists, eyes narrowing.

HAMMERHEAD
Неблагодарный подонок. (Ungrateful scumbag).

Spider-Man takes shallow, ragged breaths, glaring up at him.

SPIDER-MAN
(breathing heavily)
Did you just... ram into me like a bull?

Hammerhead smirks, stepping closer.

HAMMERHEAD
Take your time, kid. I've got plenty.

Nearby, Shocker finally tears free of the webbing. Police cruisers and squad cars screech onto the scene. Officers jump out, weapons raised.

OFFICER MULLIGAN
Freeze! Put your hands in the air or we will use force!

Shocker keeps his gauntlets pointed toward the ground, charging another blast instead of surrendering. Not far away, Spider-Man slowly recovers, pushing himself to his feet.

SPIDER-MAN
The Big Man, huh? You wouldn't happen to know where he lives, would you? I've got a bone to pick with him.

Hammerhead lowers his head and charges like a battering ram. Spider-Man jumps over it but Hammerhead grabs his ankle mid-air and slams him onto the pavement.

SLAM!

Before Spider-Man can react, Hammerhead starts swinging, his brass knuckles flying toward Spider-Man's face. Spider-Man blocks and deflects as best he can, barely keeping up with the rapid punches. Spider-Man suddenly kicks Hammerhead in the gut, sending him sliding backward. Hammerhead regains his footing almost instantly. Spider-Man gets up, raising his fists.

SPIDER-MAN
So what's with the big head? Bugs Bunny drop an anvil on you or something?

Hammerhead chuckles and knocks on the side of his skull.

CLANG! CLANG!

HAMMERHEAD
Surgically reinforced with steel-alloy. Makes my skull indestructible.

Spider-Man tilts his head, studying him.

SPIDER-MAN
Huh. You kind of look like a Hammerhead shark.

HAMMERHEAD
(grins)
That's the idea!

He charges again. Spider-Man sidesteps as Hammerhead rushes past. Instantly, Hammerhead pivots quickly and swings his fist, the brass knuckles grazing Spider-Man's arm, slicing the fabric and drawing blood. Spider-Man winces but fires back with a kick to Hammerhead's face, staggering him for a second.

WHACK!

Spider-Man throws a quick combo of punches, but Hammerhead blocks and dodges most of them. Hammerhead then grabs his arms and suddenly headbutts him.

CRACK!

Spider-Man stumbles backward, dizzy, his vision blurring as he clutches his head.

SPIDER-MAN
Ah! Ow- Jesus-
(winces)
That hurts...

VVVRRRRRRRR-BBBOOOMMM!!!

Shocker finally unleashes the shockwave he's been charging. The blast launches him high into the air as the concussive force tears through the street. Police cars flip, officers and civilians are thrown off their feet, and alarms and horns blare across the block.

HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK!

People scream as officers scramble to help the injured. Shocker continues propelling himself through the streets, firing blasts beneath his feet to keep moving.

VRR-BOOM! VRR-BOOM! VRR-BOOM!

Spider-Man looks up just in time to see a police car spinning through the air, headed straight toward Officer Watanabe, who's helping a trapped civilian crawl out from beneath another vehicle. Hammerhead smirks.

HAMMERHEAD
Better go help them, Spider-Man. Don't wanna let the innocent die.

Spider-Man doesn't hesitate. He fires a web and swings across the street as fast as he can. Officer Watanabe pulls the civilian free.

CIVILIAN
Look out!

Officer Watanabe turns and sees the car hurtling toward her. She instinctively shields the civilian, closing her eyes and bracing for impact.

THUD!

She slowly opens her eyes. Spider-Man stands there, holding the car above his head, muscles straining as he struggles with the weight. He grunts, carefully lowering it to the pavement.

OFFICER WATANABE
(shocked)
S- Spider-Man!
(relieved)
Oh my god... Thank you!

Spider-Man glances back toward where Hammerhead was standing, realizing he's gone. Spider-Man quickly scans the street and spots Shocker in the distance, climbing into a black unmarked van with the crooks from the vault. They're hauling bags stuffed with cash. The van peels away into traffic. Spider-Man instinctively raises his wrist to fire a web.

KRST. KRST.

Nothing. He checks the cartridge and realizes it's empty. Frustrated, he slams his fist into a nearby police car, leaving a dent in the hood.

SPIDER-MAN
(angrily)
Damnit... they got away!

He looks down at the dent, breathing heavily. Officer Watanabe gently places a hand on his shoulder. Spider-Man turns toward her.

OFFICER WATANABE
Need a ride?

[A FEW MINUTES LATER]
EXT. STREETS OF NEW YORK – AFTERNOON

Spider-Man sits in the back seat of a police cruiser. Officer Watanabe drives while Officer Mulligan rides in the passenger seat, glancing back at Spider-Man with clear annoyance.

OFFICER MULLIGAN
Why'd you have to bring him along?

OFFICER WATANABE
Because he saved my life. Plus he's out of web fluid and we can't just strand him.

OFFICER MULLIGAN
We can and we should've... he's a masked menace! I don't allow menaces in my car!

OFFICER WATANABE
(correcting)
Our car. And he's right there, have some common decency.

OFFICER MULLIGAN
Oh I hope he's listening because I have a lot more to say.

OFFICER WATANABE
Enough, Patrick, okay? Captain Stacy ordered us to bring him anyway. Unless you want to lose your job, I suggest you shut up.

Officer Mulligan grumbles but goes quiet. Officer Watanabe glances at Spider-Man through the rearview mirror.

OFFICER WATANABE
You okay, Spidey?

Spider-Man looks up.

SPIDER-MAN
Oh, yeah. Everything's fine, don't worry about me.

OFFICER WATANABE
Something on your mind?

He hesitates before answering.

SPIDER-MAN
Some personal troubles... but mostly wondering about crime recently with the Big Man and everything.

OFFICER WATANABE
Captain Stacy will have some answers for you at the station. We're working on a case to find out who he is and take him down once and for all.

Spider-Man nods quietly and looks down at the floor of the cruiser.

SPIDER-MAN (THINKING)
My first real defeat... and the city's still in danger if I don't stop the Big Man... or his crazy, big-headed enforcer. Whoever that Shocker guy was, he looked like a hired gun... I should start digging. Maybe there's a criminal out there named "Herman."

Spider-Man looks out the window as the cruiser continues through traffic toward the station.

[NOT LONG AFTER...]
EXT. NYPD IN MANHATTAN – DAY

The police cruiser pulls up outside the Manhattan NYPD building. Spider-Man looks ahead and spots Captain Stacy standing near the entrance, pacing while speaking on his phone. He looks irritated. Officer Watanabe parks and unlocks the back door.

OFFICER WATANABE
Go ahead and talk to the captain, Spider-Man. We have a lot of paperwork to fill out.

OFFICER MULLIGAN
(under his breath)
Yeah, because of you.

OFFICER WATANABE
Patrick, knock it off.

Spider-Man steps out and shuts the door. He walks toward Captain Stacy, who notices him immediately.

CAPTAIN STACY
I've gotta go, he's here.
(hangs up)

SPIDER-MAN
Hey, Captain. Good news?

CAPTAIN STACY
Unfortunately not. You?

SPIDER-MAN
Nuh uh. Nothing but bad news on my end.

CAPTAIN STACY
(sighs)
What do you know about the one they call the Big Man?

Spider-Man rubs his chin dramatically.

SPIDER-MAN
Well... he's probably rich. Or at least financially comfortable. He's got a taste for crime, a big-headed guy working for him...
Oh! And a guy in a yellow and brown costume who calls himself...
(dramatically)
"The Shocker."
(clears throat)
Pretty sure his first name's Herman.

CAPTAIN STACY
(nods)
Well you did just confirm something for us. Two known criminals on the run dropped off our radar last night, Herman Schultz and Phineas Mason. Guess which of the two you fought on 5th avenue.

SPIDER-MAN
Shocky's got a partner? Aw. That's adorable.

CAPTAIN STACY
We don't know how they ended up working for the Big Man... or if Mason's fully involved yet. But we do know a couple things.

Captain Stacy puts his hands on his pant pockets.

CAPTAIN STACY
Flint Marko was in debt to the Big Man before he died. We were planning to question him but... well, you know.

Spider-Man goes still. For a brief moment, he doesn't say anything. His gaze drifts toward the street as cars pass by.

SPIDER-MAN (THINKING)
Marko...

He clenches his fist slightly... then forces himself to snap back to normal.

SPIDER-MAN
He went from Sandman to Mudman.

CAPTAIN STACY
That guy with the steel in his head you also fought? His name is Joseph Martello. But in the criminal underworld they call him "Hammerhead".

SPIDER-MAN
Fitting. He almost gave me a concussion with that thing.

CAPTAIN STACY
He's the Big Man's second-in-command. And he might be the only person in the entire operation who actually knows who the Big Man really is.
(sigh)
But judging from what you told me... I doubt he'd give that up easily.

SPIDER-MAN
Yeah, the unfortunate part is criminals like that are usually more loyal to their bosses than their wives.

Captain Stacy snorts at that.

CAPTAIN STACY
How can you always find a way to joke in times like this?

SPIDER-MAN
I just like to keep a semi-positive spin on things.

Captain Stacy shakes his head with a faint smile.

CAPTAIN STACY
I've got to get back on the phone with my superiors.

He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a sticky note.

CAPTAIN STACY
Here's my number. If you find anything about the Big Man, call me immediately.

Spider-Man takes the note.

SPIDER-MAN
Thanks, Captain. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Captain Stacy gives him a quick salute. Spider-Man returns it. Spider-Man raises his wrist toward a nearby building.

TWI-KRSST!

A web doesn't come out.

SPIDER-MAN
Right. No web fluid...
(sighs)
Guess I'm walking home.

Captain Stacy chuckles as he heads back into the station. Spider-Man shrugs and jogs down the street, disappearing into the Manhattan crowd.

[AN HOUR OR SO LATER]
INT. EDDIE'S APARTMENT – EVENING

The kitchen is warm and cozy. Eddie stands at the stove, stirring a pot of soup. Betty is beside him, chopping vegetables on a cutting board.

EDDIE

How much longer do I have to stir this?

Betty smirks, sliding the chopped vegetables into the pot with the side of her knife.

BETTY
There. You can retire from stirring duty.

She sets the knife aside and leans her head lightly against his shoulder.

EDDIE
Finally.
(exhales)
How long do you think this'll take?

BETTY
Anywhere from half an hour to an hour.

Eddie nods, watching the soup simmer.

EDDIE
You know this is fun... just having someone to hang out with. I never really got that much throughout my life. Especially no that...

Eddie looks down a bit

EDDIE
Max and Norma are unavailable.

Betty looks up at him, softening a bit.

BETTY
Well I guess I should come over more often, huh?

EDDIE
Are you sure? I mean, you used to find me extremely "repulsive" and "annoying" and this is a direct quote "way too tall for my liking".

Betty laughs.

BETTY
Yeah well I'm starting to see that those things don't bother me so much anymore.

A small comfortable silence settles in. Eddie glances at her.

EDDIE
So... what are we? Dating? Friends? Friends with benefits?

Betty rolls her eyes and smirks at him playfully.

BETTY
Well if you continue to be on your best behavior then maybe, just maybe, you'll get that second date.

Eddie straightens up a bit, mock serious.

EDDIE
Yes ma'am. Best behavior.

Betty watches him for a moment. Her eyes briefly drift over him admiring his arms, his posture and his muscular build. She catches herself and quickly looks away, clearing her throat.

EDDIE
I'm gonna wash up. I'll be right back.

Betty nods. Eddie heads into the bathroom and shuts the door. Betty leans against the counter, glancing around the apartment, taking it all in thoughtfully.

BUZZ. BUZZ.

Eddie's phone vibrates on the counter. The screen lights up. Betty glances at it, then looks away. After a moment, curiosity wins. She turns it back on and looks at the texts.

UNKNOWN (TEXT)
Be here in 20 minutes. Bring the money.

UNKNOWN (TEXT)

Betty frowns slightly.

BETTY
(whispering)
Money? An address...?
(slight gasp)
Is he... doing drugs?

She quickly shakes her head, dismissing it.

BETTY
No... no, Eddie wouldn't-

But the doubt lingers. She taps the phone, bringing the screen back up, then quickly pulls out her own phone and opens the camera.

SNAP!

The bathroom door opens. Betty quickly sets Eddie's phone down and pretends she's just scrolling on her own. Eddie walks out, drying his hands.

BETTY
(slightly nervous)
Hey...

EDDIE
Hey.

He casually grabs his phone, glancing at the screen. His expression barely changes. He locks it and slips it into his pocket.

EDDIE
Hey, I've gotta run out real quick.
I'll be back in less than an hour. Do you think you'll be fine here by yourself?

Betty forces a small smile.

BETTY
Yeah. I'll be fine.
(trying to sound normal)
Need a ride?

EDDIE
Nah. I'll grab a cab.

BETTY
Okay... I'll watch the soup.
Just don't leave me hanging.

Eddie smirks.

EDDIE
Wouldn't dream of it.

He heads for the door, then pauses, glancing back at her.

EDDIE
If you wanna watch TV, it's in my room.
(half-joking)
Just... don't mess anything up.

Betty gives a quick nod, waving slightly.

BETTY
Yeah, okay. Bye!

As soon as he closes the door, she takes out her phone and texts Peter.

BETTY (TEXT)
Peter! I think Eddie's making a drug deal or something, I found this on his phone.

She hesitates for a second, then hits send. Betty looks toward the door, uneasy.

BETTY
(under her breath)
Please don't be what I think it is...

[AT THE OTHER END OF THE PHONE...]
INT. PARKER RESIDENCE – EVENING

Peter sits at his desk, tools scattered around as he works on refilling his web-shooters. His phone buzzes. He glances at it and quickly reads Betty's messages.

PETER
(sigh)
Really, Eddie? You had to go and do something like this?

He shakes his head, going back to his web fluid.

PETER
(scoffs)
Unbelievable...

BUZZ. BUZZ.

Another message pops up.

BETTY (TEXT)
I'm really worried about him. Especially after that stuff that happened with his friends, Max and Norma.

Peter pauses for a second, then leans back in his chair.

PETER
What am I supposed to do about that anyways?

BETTY (TEXT)
Do you think you could contact Spider-Man and get him to stop the deal or something? Please?

Peter stares at the message. He thinks about it for a moment. He exhales, setting his tools down.

PETER
Is this really my problem? It's probably nothing anyway...

He turns back to his web-shooters, trying to ignore it, but his mind drifts.

[IMAGINARY SCENARIO]
INT. ALLEY – NIGHT

Eddie stands alone in a dark alley. Shadows shift as a group of men step out. One thug lifts his shirt up a little, flashing a gun.

THUG
Hey, bruh, you got money?

Eddie tries to run but they rush him, beating him up and taking his money.

INT. PARKER RESIDENCE – EVENING

Peter blinks, snapping out of it. He clenches his jaw. He then glances over at the X-Men poster on the wall covering the hole in the wall, remembering when he punched it.

PETER
(sigh)
But I also have a responsibility to protect the people of New York and unfortunately Eddie is a part of that...

He finishes adjusting his web-shooters and slides them on. He grabs his phone, opening Betty's texts.

PETER (TEXT)
I'll see what I can do.

[A FEW MINUTES LATER]
EXT. STREETS OF NEW YORK – EVENING

Spider-Man swings through the skyline, flipping and diving between buildings to build speed. He checks his phone mid-swing, squinting at the screen.

SPIDER-MAN
Should be... just up ahead.

He swings past the wooded area surrounding Queens Penitentiary, unaware that Flint Marko, the man presumed to be dead, is flying as a gust of sand nearby. He flies up onto a building, staring at the prison ahead.

[FLASHBACK]
SUNDAY MARCH 22, 2015.
INT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – MIDNIGHT

More guards rush in, forming a tight circle around Aleksei and Marko, weapons raised.

PRISON GUARD
Nowhere to go. Drop the weapons!

Marko glances at Aleksei, smirks.

MARKO
You ready?

Aleksei's grin widens.

ALEKSEI
Hell yeah.

Marko opens fire as Aleksei charges, slamming into the guards like a wrecking ball. Bodies fly, weapons scatter and the riot explodes outward. Flint Marko spots a glowing exit sign through the chaos.

MARKO
I see an exit, let's move!

Aleksei hurls a guard into the wall, then plants himself between Marko and the swarm of guards.

ALEKSEI
I can't! If I leave, everyone else is in big danger!

MARKO
Aleksei, come on! I'm not leaving you!

Aleksei fires his gun overhead, forcing the guards back.

ALEKSEI
(shouting)
Don't worry about me! I can handle this!

Marko hesitates then nods, eyes burning.

MARKO
I'll come back for you. I swear.

Aleksei grins through the chaos.

ALEKSEI
I'm counting on it.

Marko turns and sprints for the exit, alarms screaming behind him as Aleksei charges back into the fight. He slams the keycard into the scanner.

BEEP.

ACCESS DENIED.

MARKO
Damn it!

A bloodied keycard skids across the floor nearby, clearly marked LEVEL 5 ACCESS. Marko snatches it and swipes it. Before the door can open, a prison guard tackles him, sending them crashing to the floor. They both struggle, reaching for the guard's gun. The guard manages to grab his gun and aims it at Marko.

GUARD
(smiling)
Big mistake.

Marko closes his eyes, waiting for the gun to go off. Suddenly, the guard is yanked off of Marko by Aleksei, who throws the guard straight into a wall.

ALEKSEI
Go! Now!

Marko scrambles to his feet, slams the keycard into the scanner.

BEEP.

ACCESS GRANTED.

The door flies open. Marko bolts through and slams it shut behind him, locking it just as guards pile up on the other side, pounding against the metal.

[PRESENT]
SUNDAY MAY 3, 2015.
EXT. ROOFTOP – EVENING

Sandman stares at the prison, feeling the rush of being a criminal again.

SANDMAN
It's time...
(smiles)
Flint Marko's back, baby!

[ELSEWHERE...]
INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE – NIGHT

Dim lights flicker overhead. The Tinkerer fine-tunes the settings on Shocker's gauntlets at a cluttered workbench. Shocker leans against the wall, wiping down his goggles.

SHOCKER
Couldn't you just add a setting where I adjust the frequency myself?

TINKERER
That takes time. Time that we don't have.

SHOCKER
What do you mean? We've got plenty of time, I just finished a job!

The Thinkerer stops for a moment.

TINKERER
They didn't tell you...?

Shocker raises an eyebrow.

SHOCKER
Tell me what?

??? (OFF SCREEN)
You're going back out there.

Shocker turns. Hammerhead stands in the doorway with his arms at his sides, remaining calm but threatening.

HAMMERHEAD
The Big Man's got another job tonight. You're gonna hit Manhattan Bank... draw Spider-Man out.

Shocker lets out a sharp laugh.

SHOCKER
You've gotta be kidding me. I just got back.
(annoyed)
We can't do this tomorrow?

Hammerhead's expression hardens. He steps forward slowly.

HAMMERHEAD
Did I say tomorrow?
(closer)
No. I said tonight.

Shocker scoffs, pushing off the wall.

SHOCKER
Yeah? Well I'm not playing distraction for someone else's big plan. That's not how I work.

Hammerhead closes the distance, now right in front of him.

HAMMERHEAD
(low, deadly)
I don't care how you work. You do what you're told...or I make sure you don't work at all.

Shocker doesn't back down, but there's a flicker of hesitation. After a moment of glaring, he exhales, giving up.

SHOCKER
Fine.

He snatches the gauntlets off the table, slipping them on. The Tinkerer watches, saying nothing. Shocker pulls his mask down and storms out.

INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE  – GARAGE – NIGHT

A group of crooks sit around a table playing cards. Shocker walks past them.

SHOCKER
Move. Now.

They scramble as cards scatter, chairs scrape and weapons are grabbed in a rush.

Within sconds everyone's in the black unmarked van as Shocker sits in the passenger seat. The driving crook turns to Shocker.

CROOK
Where too, boss?

Shocker glances over at Hammerhead, who's staring him down with dangerous eyes.

SHOCKER
Manhattan Bank.

The garage door opens and the van speeds out and down the road.

EXT. ALLEY – NIGHT

Spider-Man drops into the alley, landing softly. He looks around. It's quiet and empty.

SPIDER-MAN
No drug dealers... that's good...
(looking around)
But no sign of Eddie either... Maybe he's already dead?
(chuckles)
Can't say that...
(clears throat)
He doesn't have his motorcycle because it was destroyed on Friday by Electro... so he must've taken a cab.

A faint noise comes from inside the building. Spider-Man slowly creeps toward a window, peeking inside.

INT. PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO – NIGHT

Eddie adjusts his camera. There's a staged scene of a fake Spider-Man punching a fake Shocker in the face with fake blood on his hands.

SNAP!

EXT. ALLEY – NIGHT

Spider-Man's eyes narrow behind the mask.

SPIDER-MAN (THINKING)
He isn't doing drugs... he's making fake pictures of me! I knew there was something off about that picture!

He pulls out his phone and takes a quick photo through the window.

SPIDER-MAN
I can't just stand here and let Eddie ruin my reputation... but it's probably best if I approach this as Peter Parker and not Spider-Man.

[A FEW MOMENTS LATER]
INT. PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO – NIGHT

BANG!

The door flies open. Peter storms in, furious.

PETER
(angrily)
What the hell is this, Eddie?!

Eddie spins around, caught completely off guard.

EDDIE

Parker! I- I can explain! It's not what it looks like!

Peter gestures at the staged scene.

PETER
Fake costumes? Fake fights? Fake blood?!
(angrier)
You're framing Spider-Man?!

The fake actors awkwardly glance between them.

FAKE SPIDER-MAN
Uh... Eddie?

FAKE SHOCKER
You didn't say anything about this...

Eddie runs a hand through his hair, stressed.

EDDIE
I'll handle this outside.

Eddie grabs Peter's arm.

EDDIE
Let's go.

He drags him outside as Peter struggles to break free.

PETER
Hey, let go!

EXT. ALLEY – NIGHT

Eddie shoves Peter out into the alley. Peter stumbles, then quickly regains his footing, straightening up.

EDDIE
How did you know I was here?

PETER
That's not important! What's wrong with you?! Faking pictures? That's not real photography!

Eddie lets out a bitter laugh.

EDDIE
Oh yeah? And having Spider-Man pose for your shots is any different?
(steps closer)
What, you two working together or something?

PETER
No! Eddie I-

Eddie suddenly swings a punch. Peter barely dodges it, jerking his head aside. Eddie throws another punch and Peter blocks it. He throws another and Peter steps back. Peter isn't fighting back, just defending as Eddie keeps swinging.

EDDIE
Why do you care so much?? Why are you so obsessed with Spider-Man?!

PETER
Because you're making him look bad! He's a hero not a monster!

EDDIE
(outburst)
He is a monster!

Peter catches it mid-swing. Eddie freezes for a second, he's breathing heavy and his eyes are burning.

EDDIE
You know what I've been dealing with these past few days?
(voice shaking)
I've spent the last few days worrying about my friends, Norma and Max, trying my best to keep them together!
(angrier)
When Max asked Spider-Man for help, you know what he did?

Peter goes still.

EDDIE
He made fun of him. He made jokes about him and he made Max look like just another supervillain!

Peter looks away, guilt hitting hard as remembers that moment. Eddie pulls his hand free.

EDDIE
And you wanna know the worst part?
(steps closer)
You.

Peter looks back at him.

EDDIE
You walk into the Bugle with these perfect shots, every single time.
(angrier, more personal)
I was the main photographer. The only photographer.
(quiet, bitter)
Now I'm second place... I've always been second place!

Eddie turns and punches a dumpster.

CLANG!

It dents inward. He grips the edge, knuckles white, trying to hold himself together.

PETER
Eddie...

EDDIE
What?!

Peter hesitates, then softens.

PETER
I know this whole photography thing got out of hand, for both of us.
(pauses)
And I'm sorry about your friend, Max. I know that I-
(corrects himself)
Spider-Man messed up...

Eddie glances back slightly.

PETER
But ruining his reputation isn't going to fix anything.

Eddie slowly lets go of the dumpster. His anger fades into exhaustion.

EDDIE
...Yeah.
(quiet)
You're right.

He wipes his eyes quickly, trying to hide it.

EDDIE
I just... don't know what to do anymore.

Peter steps closer, placing a hand on his shoulder.

PETER
You do the right thing. You stop faking those pictures.

Eddie looks at Peter. After a long pause, he nods.

EDDIE
Yeah...
(steadying himself)
Yeah, you're right. I'm better than this.
(softly)
This isn't what Max or Norma would've wanted.

Eddie exhales, looking up at the sky slightly. He then looks back down at Peter.

EDDIE
Thanks, Parker.
(then suddenly, half-serious)
But if you tell anyone about this...
(leans in slightly)
You're dead.

Peter raises his hands a little, half-smiling.

PETER
Got it. Secret's safe with me. I'm just glad I could help.

Sirens wail in the distance. Peter glances toward the street, alert.

PETER
Listen, I gotta go.
(heading off)
And, uh... you might wanna talk to Betty. Explain what just happened.

He starts jogging off.

EDDIE
(confused)
Wait, what? Why?

Peter slows just slightly, glancing back.

PETER
How else do you think I found you?

Peter turns and takes off down the alley. Eddie stands there for a moment, processing.

EDDIE
(to himself)
...She saw the messages.
(groans)
Great. She probably thinks I'm out here making drug deals.

He runs a hand over his face, frustrated. A shadow passes overhead. Eddie looks up. High above, Spider-Man swings past the building, heading toward the sirens. Eddie watches him for a moment, expression unreadable. He scoffs lightly, shaking his head.

EDDIE
Yeah... real hero.

He turns and heads back inside the building.

[ACROSS MANHATTAN...]
INT. MANHATTAN BANK – NIGHT

The doors burst open. Shocker and his crew storm in, firing shots into the air.

BANG! BANG!

Gunshots echo as civilians scream and drop to the floor. Shocker steps forward, raising his gauntlets toward a terrified bank teller.

SHOCKER
Money. Now!

[SOMEWHERE ELSE...]
EXT. FOREST – NIGHT

A shifting mass of sand rushes through the trees, fast and focused. It weaves between trunks, hugging the ground as it heads straight for Queens Penitentiary.

[IN THE CITY...]
EXT. STREETS OF NEW YORK – NIGHT

Police sirens scream. Dozens of cruisers race through traffic. Above them, Spider-Man swings overhead, keeping pace. He glances down.

SPIDER-MAN
Manhattan Bank...
(quiet, uneasy)
Haven't been back there in a while. It's where me and Marko fought for the last time.

He continues swinging, going quiet for a moment.

SPIDER-MAN
Manhattan Bank...
(quiet, uneasy)
Haven't been back there in a while.

His expression hardens behind the mask.

SPIDER-MAN
I won't make that mistake again.

THWIP!

He fires another web and rockets forward, faster.

[BACK WITH SANDMAN...]
EXT. CREEK – NIGHT

The rushing sand reaches a shallow creek. It rises, forming back into Sandman.

RING. RING.

Sandman takes his flip phone out of his pocket, opening it to answer the call.

SANDMAN
Yeah?

WARDEN (CALL)
Are you in position?

SANDMAN
Mhm.

Sandman looks toward the distant prison.

WARDEN (CALL)
You ready?

SANDMAN
Always. Tell me how it's going down.

EXT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – NIGHT

Sandman watches the calm, silent prison under the night sky.

WARDEN (VOICEOVER)
At exactly 7:55 PM... you create a sandstorm around the perimeter.

The ground begins to shift. Grains of sand rise, forming a slow, circling current around the prison walls. It quickly gets faster and stronger. Within seconds, it becomes a full sandstorm, whipping violently around the facility, obscuring visibility.

INT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – CELL BLOCK – NIGHT

WARDEN (VOICEOVER)
Around this time, it'll be 5 minutes until lunch, All the inmates will be let out of their cells to go to the cafeteria.

Cell doors slide open one by one. Inmates step out. Adrian Toomes exits his cell, adjusting his posture as he scans the area. Down the hall, Otto Octavius is surrounded by guards. They remove his heavy restraints, replacing them with more mobile ones. He flexes his arms slightly as they finish. Otto and Adrian fall into step beside each other, heading toward the cafeteria.

INT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – ADRIAN AND ALEKSEI'S CELL – NIGHT

WARDEN (VOICEOVER)
Around this time, Aleksei usually stays behind for a few minutes to wash up before dinner.

Aleksei stands at the sink, splashing water on his face.

WARDEN (VOICEOVER)
That's when you locate his cell and enter through the window.

A cloud of sand slowly breezes through the window of the jail cell. Aleksei doesn't notice at first until he sees the sand shift into Flint Marko through the mirror.

SANDMAN
Miss me?

Aleksei spins around, his face lights up.

ALEKSEI
Marko! I knew you'd come back!

He rushes forward and wraps Sandman in a massive bear hug, lifting him off the ground.

SANDMAN
(strained)
Okay, okay! Easy, big guy!

INT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – SOUTHWEST EXIT – NIGHT

WARDEN (VOICEOVER)
Once you've located Aleksei, the southern most western exit of the prison will be temporarily unlocked.

A guard casually strolls over to the exit and scans his keycard, unlocking the door. He then walks away, glancing around making sure he's unseen.

WARDEN (VOICEOVER)
You'll have 5 minutes to get to the exit and get out. Otherwise, it's all a bust. I won't be able to help you from there.

INT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – ADRIAN AND ALEKSEI'S CELL – NIGHT

Aleksei is still hugging Marko, lifting him in the air.

ALEKSEI

Oh my! I knew you were not dead! I just had feeling!

Aleksei puts him down. Sandman smirks.

SANDMAN
Yeah, well... I had to prove 'em wrong somehow.
(serious now)
We don't have time. We've got five minutes.

Aleksei cracks his knuckles, energized.

ALEKSEI
Then let's not waste it.

[MEANWHILE...]
INT. MANHATTAN BANK – NIGHT

Shocker stands at the center of the lobby, hostages on the ground around him. His gauntlets hum with power. He holds a phone to his ear.

NEGOTIATOR
Listen, Herman, all you need to do is release these people. We'll give you anything you want. Escape vehicle, reduced sentence, anything.

SHOCKER
I don't want a reduced sentence or an escape vehicle. I want Spider-Man here, now!

He drops the phone.

CRACK!

He crushes it under his boot.

EXT. MANHATTAN BANK – FRONT LOT – NIGHT

The line goes dead. The negotiator lowers the receiver, tense. Captain Stacy exhales sharply.

CAPTAIN STACY
Damn it...

Behind him, Officer Watanabe and Officer Mulligan stand ready.

OFFICER WATANABE
SWAT's en route, Captain.

OFFICER MULLIGAN
They'll take control when they arrive.

Captain Stacy shakes his head slightly.

CAPTAIN STACY
That's the problem... He doesn't want SWAT.
(looking at the bank)
He wants Spider-Man.

WHOOSH.

Everyone looks up. Police officers begin cheering. Captain Stacy looks up as well and sees Spider-Man swinging overhead. He lands against the side of the building, clinging just beside a window. He looks down at Captain Stacy, who meets his eyes and gives a firm nod. Spider-Man nods back, then peers inside.

INT. MANHATTAN BANK – NIGHT

Among the hostages, Flash Thompson and Sally Avril are crouched behind a desk.

SALLY
(whispering)
The one time I go to the bank with you... and we end up in a hostage situation?

Flash peeks over the desk, eyeing Shocker.

FLASH
I'm gonna step in.

SALLY
(whispering, panicked)
What? Are you nuts?! Babe, they'll kill you!

FLASH
Someone has to buy time until Spider-Man gets here.

Flash gets up from behind the desk.

SALLY
Flash, don't!

Flash charges towards Shocker, preparing a football tackle. Shocker turns around, quickly aiming a vibro-shock blast.

VRRR-POW!

A shockwave blasts the ground in front of Flash. He trips hard, slamming face-first into the floor. Two crooks grab him, dragging him upright. Shocker approaches slowly.

SALLY
Flash!

SHOCKER
Big mistake, kid. I really didn't want any blood on my hands today... but here we are.

He aims directly at Flash's head, charging up. Sally struggles as two crooks restrain her. Flash winces, he then suddenly smirks. Shocker narrows his eyes.

SHOCKER
What's got you smiling, boy?

FLASH

What can I do to get you to spare my life?

SHOCKER
(amused, scoffs)
If you brought me Spider-Man I'd consider it. Too bad you won't live long enough to find him.

CRASH!

🎵SPIDER-MAN'S THEME KICKS IN🎵

IN SLOW MOTION:
Spider-Man jumps through the window, hitting a pose as he flies down, ready to kick shocker.

SPIDER-MAN
You asked and you shall receive!

WHAM! VRRR-TRAAPPP

Spider-Man kicks Shocker hard, slamming him into the ground. The impact causes Shocker to misfire, his blast hitting the ceiling instead. Spider-Man quickly webs him to the floor, immobilizing him.

SALLY
(confused)
Spider-Man?

FLASH
(excited)
Spider-Man!

CROOK 1 & 2
(shocked)
Spider-Man?

SHOCKER
(angry)
Spider-Man...

SPIDER-MAN
In the flesh!

The two crooks holding Flash fire their guns. Spider-Man flips, rolls, and ducks as the bullets ping harmlessly off walls and counters.

SPIDER-MAN
Hey kid, duck.

Flash ducks just in time. Spider-Man fires two webs at the crooks' heads.

THWIP! THWIP!

He yanks their heads together, knocking them out cold. One crook holding Sally aims a gun at her head.

SALLY
(struggling)
No! Let go of me!

FLASH
Sally!

CROOK #4
One wrong move and she dies, Spider-Man!

Another crook trains his gun on Spider-Man.

SPIDER-MAN
I think I have a different plan instead.

He leaps, swinging up to the ceiling of the bank. Bullets fly past as he sprints across the ceiling. Both crooks now have their backs turned to Flash. He takes the opportunity and charges at the crook holding Sally at gunpoint.

SLAM!

The crook collapses. Flash snatches Sally up in one arm just as the other crook spins to aim at him.

THWIP! POW!

Spider-Man swings down from the ceiling and kicks the crook in the face, knocking him out. Flash helps Sally steady herself. She suddenly punches his arm.

FLASH
Ow! What was that for?

SALLY
That's for leaving me!

Then she kisses him.

Muah.

SALLY
And that's for saving me. Don't ever scare me like that again! You understand?

Flash nods, blushing. She hugs him tightly. The hostages clap and cheer. Spider-Man lands nearby, leaning casually against a counter.

SPIDER-MAN (THINKING)
Despite everything they did, I've got to admit...  Flash and Sally really do make a cute couple. In a weird and twisted way.

BANG! BANG!

Shocker, finally free from the webbing, steps forward, flanked by two armed crooks. They fire into the air, scattering everyone and drawing all eyes.

SHOCKER
Sorry to interrupt your moment... but I've got a job to do.

He raises his vibro-shock gauntlets toward Spider-Man. Spider-Man drops into a fighting stance, eyes locked on him.

SPIDER-MAN
You really just don't know when to give up, do ya, Shocky?

[BACK AT THE PRISON...]
INT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – CAFETERIA – NIGHT

The prisoners sit down for dinner, but the windows shake as a swirling sandstorm rages outside. Confused murmurs ripple through the room, guards and inmates alike glance nervously at the growing chaos. Otto looks at Adrian.

OTTO
Could it be Marko?

ADRIAN
(nods)
We need to get out of here... quietly.

OTTO
(smiles)
Leave that to me.

Despite his heavy restraints, Otto grabs a handful of gravy and flings it at another inmate.

SPLAT!

The prisoner, startled, throws his own plate back, hitting someone at another table. Within moments, the cafeteria erupts into chaos: trays fly, utensils become weapons, and guards scramble to maintain control. One prisoner climbs atop a table.

PRISONER
Prison riot!!

Otto and Adrian duck behind a flipped table.

OTTO
Told you. These restraints might hold me for now, but once we're out... we'll see.

ADRIAN
Marko will be coming for me and Aleksei's cell. We've gotta move fast if we want a shot at escaping!

[SOMEWHERE ELSE IN THE PRISON...]
INT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – ADRIANS AND ALEKSEI'S CELL – NIGHT

Alarm lights flash across the cell. Aleksei glances at Sandman, wide-eyed.

ALEKSEI
Was this part of plan?

SANDMAN
(smiling)
Nope. Just... roll with it. Let's move!

They burst out of the cell into the hall. Chaos reigns as prisoners fight, guards scramble, and food and debris litter the floor. One guard spots them.

GUARD
Hey! Stop them!

Sandman glances at Aleksei. Aleksei smirks and nods.

ALEKSEI

Our second teamup was long overdue, my friend.

They charge forward together, weaving into the chaos, ready to take on anything in their path.

[AT THE EXACT SAME TIME...]
INT. MANHATTAN BANK – NIGHT

Spider-Man charges at Shocker and his two crooks. Shocker fires a blast. Spider-Man slides under it, then ducks beneath Shocker's legs and lands two swift kicks, sending him flying forward.

BAM! BAM!

Spider-Man spins toward Crook #1, landing a quick flurry of punches before Crook #2 opens fire. He leaps over the bullets, firing two webs straight at the crook's face.

THWIP! THWIP!

Blinded, Crook #2 staggers as Spider-Man lashes out with a sucker punch across the jaw.

THWIP! BAM!

Spider-Man grabs Crook #2, hurling him into Crook #1.

THWIP-THWIP-THWIP-THWIP!

He finishes the combo by firing multiple webs, tangling both crooks securely on the floor. The hostages cheer him on.

FLASH
Yeah, Spider-Man!

Shocker rises, aiming a blast at Flash. Sally notices.

SALLY
Flash!

Flash's eyes widen.

THWIP!

Spider-Man fires a web at Shocker's gauntlet, forcing it to swing downward.

VRR-BAM!

Shocker crashes into a desk, sending papers, pens, and a radio flying. The radio hits the floor and turns on.

🎵"HIGH HOPES" BY PANIC! AT THE DISCO BEGINS PLAYING🎵

SPIDER-MAN
Ooh! I love this song!

He hums along as Shocker scrambles to get up, charging at Spider-Man. Spider-Man nods in time with the beat, winding up for a punch.

It perfectly cuts into:

INT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – CELL BLOCK – NIGHT

Sandman punches a guard in the face, then hurls sand into his eyes. Aleksei kicks the blinded guard across the hall. More guards charge. Sandman forms his fists into hammers, smashing anyone in his path. Aleksei plows through the crowd, a guard leaps towards him from behind.

It perfectly cuts into:

INT. MANHATTAN BANK – NIGHT

Spider-Man lands on Shocker's back, webbing over his eyes to blind him. Shocker swings a vibro-blast at the ground, sending both of them flying.

It perfectly cuts into:

INT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – CELL BLOCK – NIGHT

Sandman slams his fists into the floor, sending a wave of sand that launches guards and even Aleksei with the guard still on his back.

SANDMAN
Sorry!

A guard sneaks up from behind, baton raised. Sandman pivots, charging a punch.

It perfectly cuts into:

INT. MANHATTAN BANK – NIGHT

Spider-Man punches Shocker, who blocks. Spider-Man sweeps his legs, tripping him, then leaps and fires two webs at the floor beside Shocker.

THWIP! THWIP!

He then yanks himself downward.

It perfectly cuts into:

INT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – CELL BLOCK – NIGHT

Aleksei jumps onto a guard, crushing him, then rushes another group. Sandman uppercuts a different guard.

It perfectly cuts into:

INT. MANHATTAN BANK – NIGHT

Shocker tries to uppercut Spider-Man but he moves back and fires two webs at Shocker's face.

THWIP! THWIP! BAM!

Spider-Man knees Shocker in the face. He stumbles, groaning, then swings a punch. Spider-Man tosses a coffee cup behind him. Shocker turns.

SPIDER-MAN
Made ya look!

THWIP!

Spider-Man fires a web, yanking the cup into Shocker's head. Shocker falls forward, clutching his head.

🎵THE MUSIC SLOWLY BEGINS TO FADE🎵

Spider-Man stands over Shocker.

SPIDER-MAN
Defeated by a coffee mug. What a "Shocker". Am I right, Herman?

Shocker growls, aiming his gauntlet at Spider-Man. But when he tries to fire, sparks fly from the damaged device. He looks down in confusion, and the moment he looks back up:

BAM!

Spider-Man lands a roadhouse kick, sending Shocker sprawling. The hostages cheer. Spider-Man quickly webs cuffs around Shocker's arms.

FLASH
Spider-Man, you're my hero, man!

SPIDER-MAN
Thanks, everyone. Everyone stay safe out there.

He yanks Shocker's gauntlets off.

SPIDER-MAN
Just in case.

Spider-Man lifts Shocker to his feet.

SHOCKER
This isn't the last you'll see of me, Spider-Man!

SPIDER-MAN
Yeah after a good 10 years in prison, But don't worry, Shocky, I'm sure we'll see each other at the High School reunion.

Spider-Man starts escorting Shocker towards the doors.

[MEANWHILE, BACK AT THE PRISON...]
INT. QUEENS PENITENTIARY – CELL BLOCK – NIGHT

Sandman and Aleksei stand over the unconscious guards, catching their breath.

ALEKSEI
(laugh)
That was fun! We must continue once we escape!

Sandman's flip phone buzzes in his pocket. He flips it open and answers.

SANDMAN
Hello?

WARDEN (CALL)
Marko! You've got two and a half minutes to reach the exit! They're onto me, you have to go, now!

SANDMAN
Copy that.
(closes phone)
Come on, Aleksei. We've got to move.

They sprint down the hall, Sandman leading the way. Aleksei struggles to keep up.

ALEKSEI
Marko! How you have resources inside prison? Someone help you?

SANDMAN
The Big Man. Biggest criminal kingpin in New York.

ALEKSEI
Ah, I guess in exchange he want us work for him, Да (yes)?

Sandman nods, running past overturned carts and shouting inmates.

ALEKSEI
But wait! My friends, Adrian and Otto! We must grab them! They maybe be useful to this big man!

SANDMAN
I'm sorry, Aleksei... but we don't have time for that!

They turn a corner. Up ahead, the unlocked exit gleams under the emergency lights, completely unnoticed by anyone. But chaos erupts between the prisoners and the guards. Sandman barrels through, forming a swirling sand shield to shove anyone in his path out of the way. Adrian and Otto fight off guards as best they can, but the momentum of Sandman's shield hurls them aside.

ADRIAN
Hey! Watch where you're-

Adrian spots Aleksei sprinting just behind Sandman through the chaos. Otto notices too.

OTTO
Aleksei!

Guards seize Adrian and Otto, trying to pull them back. Aleksei freezes for a second, watching his friends being restrained.

ALEKSEI
Toomes! Octavius!

Sandman glances back briefly, hesitation flickering across his face. Then his eyes lock on the exit. A guard notices the unlocked door and bolts toward it.

SANDMAN
No, no, no! Aleksei! We have to go, now!

ALEKSEI
But-

Sandman forms a cloud of sand and scoops Aleksei up into his arms.

ALEKSEI
Marko, no!

Adrian struggles against the guards, yelling.

ADRIAN
Aleksei!

ALEKSEI
I'll come back, I swear! No friends left behind!

Otto lands an elbow on a guard.

OTTO
I knew it! He's a lying little-

He's struck over the head before he can finish. Adrian turns to help but is hit as well. Sandman surges forward, Aleksei in his arms, dodging the last desperate attempts of the guards, the exit just a few yards away. The guard ahead sprints toward the exit. Sandman surges forward, flying low through the hallway.

ALEKSEI
Go faster!

SANDMAN
I'm trying! You're not exactly light!

ALEKSEI
Hey!

The distance closes fast. The guard reaches the door and glances back, seeing them coming at full speed. He quickly dives out of the way.

SANDMAN
Hang on!

Aleksei braces for impact.

CRASH!

It perfectly cuts into:

INT. MANHATTAN BANK – NIGHT

The front doors swing open. In an instant, SWAT floods in, weapons raised, sweeping the building. They rush past Spider-Man, who casually walks out, escorting Shocker in web-cuffs. Outside, flashing lights paint the scene red and blue. Police officers and reporters crowd the entrance. Cameras flash as Spider-Man steps out. Captain Stacy steps forward, taking Shocker and snapping real cuffs onto him.

CLICK.

CAPTAIN STACY
Take him away.

He hands Shocker off to Officer Watanabe, who leads him toward a patrol car. Captain Stacy turns, walking beside Spider-Man as reporters swarm them.

REPORTER #1
Do you know why he did this?!

REPORTER #2
How did you defeat him?!

REPORTER #3
Is he working with someone?!

Spider-Man raises a hand, unfazed.

SPIDER-MAN
Ladies, ladies, please. One at a time.

He keeps walking, calm and confident as cameras flash all around him.

CAPTAIN STACY
Good job in there, Spider-Man. We both know he wasn't intending to actually hurt anyone but... with the Big Man you never know.

Spider-Man shrugs as they approach the patrol cars, casually leaning against one.

SPIDER-MAN
I think Herman's just mad he's not playing in the big leagues. Honestly? Probably the least dangerous super-villain I've fought.

Captain Stacy watches as Shocker is shoved into the back of a police car.

CAPTAIN STACY
We've got a lot of questions for him before he's shipped off to Queens Penitentiary.

He then turns back to Spider-Man, more serious.

CAPTAIN STACY
DId you find anything else out about the Big Man?

SPIDER-MAN
Nope. Just that he should probably invest in a better repair guy.

Spider-Man hands over Shocker's vibro-shock gauntlets. Captain Stacy takes them, pulling out an evidence bag and sealing them inside.

CAPTAIN STACY
We'll have these analyzed.
(then, sincere)
I can't thank you enough, Spider-Man. Without you... this city would be in a much worse place.

SPIDER-MAN
It's always my pleasure to protect my city, Captain. I'll continue to keep an eye out for-

IN SLOW MOTION:
His Spider-Sense suddenly flares. Time seems to stretch. The noise of the city dulls. Spider-Man turns, scanning an searching everywhere. Then he looks up. A faint cloud of sand drifts across the sky, moving fast... almost too fast to notice.

SPIDER-MAN
(under his breath)
No... it can't be...

CAPTAIN STACY
Spider-Man?

THWIP!

Spider-Man fires a web and swings off, fast.

EXT. NEW YORK CITY – NIGHT

Spider-Man swings frantically through the city, eyes locked ahead on the moving sand.

SPIDER-MAN
No... no, it can't be him...

He pushes himself faster, quickly gaining speed. He rounds a corner, launching himself high into the air. At the peak he looks around, quickly realizing the sand is gone.

SPIDER-MAN
No, no, no, no! Flint Marko is dead... he died! I saw it! I-

He lands hard on a rooftop, rolling to a stop. He scrambles up, scanning the skyline again and again. Still nothing. It's just the city, alive and normal. He exhales, shaken, and pulls out his phone.  He dials a number, doing the *67 method to hide his number.

CAPTAIN STACY (CALL)
Hello?

SPIDER-MAN
Captain Stacy... it's me, Spider-Man... I have a lead.
(serious)
Flint Marko's alive.

[A FEW MINUTES LATER]
INT. EDDIE'S APARTMENT – NIGHT

PETER (VOICEOVER)
Hey, Liz. I just wanted to call and check up on you... Guess you're too busy to pick up the phone.

Eddie steps into the apartment. Betty comes out of his room. He quietly explains everything as Peter's message continues over it.

PETER (VOICEOVER)
Look, I know I've been blowing up your phone lately... I'm sorry. I know I keep saying that, but... I just can't explain why I did what I did.

Betty processes it, still a little shaken, but relieved. She exhales, then pulls Eddie into a hug. He hesitates, then returns it, managing a small smile.

INT. ABANDONED WAREHOUSE – NIGHT

PETER (VOICEOVER)
Things are just so stressful right now... and I get it if you just want to be friends.

Hammerhead stands with the Tinkerer at his workbench.

WHOOSH.

A violent gust of sand blasts into the warehouse. They turn as the sand swirls, then forms, revealing Flint Marko, with Aleksei beside him.

PETER (VOICEOVER)
I had my chance and I blew it. I want to take full responsibility for what I did and I wanna make it right.

Hammerhead smiles, stepping forward. He extends his hand. Aleksei grins and shakes it firmly.

INT. PARKER RESIDENCE – NIGHT

Peter sits on his bed, phone to his ear.

PETER
I guess I should stop calling... give you some space.
(softly)
Just... let me know you're okay.

He ends to voice mail. Peter lowers the phone, rubbing his forehead with a groan.

PETER
Why do I always screw everything up?

He falls back onto his bed, staring at the ceiling.

PETER (THINKING)
With Marko still out there, Shocker off to prison with Otto and the Vulture and the Big Man ruling the streets... I can't help but feel helpless. Everything's just falling apart at once.

He swallows hard, eyes fixed upward.

PETER (THINKING)
Sometimes I wonder if I should've been the one to take this responsibility.

Peter lies there in silence, the weight of it all pressing down on him.

THE END.
