Work Text:

“WE’RE GOING DOWN!?!?!”

“FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKK-”

“AYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!”

“...”

The whole helicopter was in fucking shambles. Everyone grabbing onto chairs, trying not to get flung out the windows.

woooooshhhhhhhh….. BOOM!!!!

With the loudest sound you’ve ever heard, the helicopter takes a nose-dive and crash-lands directly onto gritty beige sand. The parts fall apart like crappy old legos, metal peeling away as if it were paper drifting away in the wind.

“Coddamnit..” Shiver slowly rises from her less-than-proper starfish position on the ground, shaking sand out of her long blue hair.

Frye, about three miles away and upside-down, kicks her legs weakly in an attempt to reactivate them.

Big Man… Big man is just sprawled out and sliding slowly down the fractured tail boom.

Your arms slowly unfurl from their wrapped position around your head, and you lift your face to glance around at the destruction galore. The sun burns your eyes almost immediately, and you have to blink tears away. With an already fed-up grumble, you nestle your head back into your arms, trying to will the situation away like a bad dream.

“Oh my cod, we killed Mechanic.”
“WE KILLED MECHANIC!?”

“We killed Mechanic; we’re bastards.”

A harsh jab nearly dents the crook of your waist, making you jolt and look up.

Shiver stands over you, foot raised over your torso. She cocks an eyebrow as you gape up at her. “Nevermind. Welcome back, Mech.”

“MECHANIC!!” Frye flops onto her knees, face inches from yours like she’s trying to see straight through your soul. “We thought you died on us!”

“...”

You roll onto your back and away from her, staring up at the sun with a resigned expression.

“Wha- Don’t look so pissed!”

“Aaaaaayy….” Big Man’s groan echoes faintly in the distance as he leans against a tree, fin wrapped around the thick unfamiliar bark.

Shiver stood off to the side, inspecting the torn map that had somehow found its way into her sock. “Hhhhhuhhh…” she murmured, turning the map this way and that.

“Give me that!” Frye snatched the map out of her hands, holding it an arms-length away from her body. “Uh-huh… uh-huh.. yeaaahhh… I got it! We go thataway.” She pointed into the distance, where a totally-not-menacing dark forest beckoned with waving leaves.

“...Ay..?” Big Man, obviously the brighter of the two, stands behind Frye in an attempt to read the map over her shoulder. But alas, the map indeed pointed into the dense woods.

You prop yourself up onto your elbows, tilting your head back. “...are you absolutely sure it says to go in there?

“Don’t doubt me, Mechanic, I know what I'm doing!”
Shiver sighs, her hand rising to pinch the bridge of her nose. “Shouldn’t we bring any equipment in? Or, I don’t know, put Mechanic to work?”

“Don’t tell me what to do!”

“Ay, ay, ay!”

And so, once again, you sit between the three once again’ like a child witnessing their three dysfunctional parents go through a divorce-inducing argument.
