Chapter Text
It was a calm morning. Bernard's alarm clock was blaring. He woke up, turned it off and kissed Courtney's forehead. "Good morning princess."
"Hmm...five more minutes. "She grumbled not opening her eyes.
He got up and started preparing for the day. For this past few weeks the message of the Spectre hadn't left his mind but he kept on going.
He opened the drapes and froze. "Courtney." He called. "Courtney wake up."
"Bernie I love you but I'm still sleepy." She said raising her head.
"Court, we are no longer in San Jose." He told her.
"What?" She got up and went to his side.
"We are somewhere else." He says as they both look out the window.
Indeed the mansion was no longer on their calm californian suburb but rather on a street in Manhattan.
"Why's there a giant A on that builduing?" Courtney pointed out.
Bernard's eyes widen with excitement. "Honey, I believe we are in Marvel's New York."
"Like the New York of those comics and movies you and Virgil love?" She asked.
"Yeap." He answered.
"NO WAY." Virgil screamed from his bedroom. "BERNARD ARE YOU SEEING THIS." He came in running, Barbara following behind.
"I see it." Bernard answered.
"We are in the Marvel Universe. Do you think Spider-Man's around?" Virgil asked.
As fate would have it, Barbara got a notification on her phone from the Daily Bugle about SPider-Man being a menace. "I believe this answer your question." She handed him the phone.
"Oh...My...God." Virgil was excited. "We have to meet him."
"First we need an emergency meeting." Bernard said as they went downstairs.
Five minutes later, everyone was reunited at the living room.
"Seems like the Spectre moved us without warning." John said.
"The weird part is why move us to a world with superheroes?" Zatanna asked.
"Possibly because he need us." Swamp THing answered. "The Spectre doesn't do things without cause."
"So why in my, Katie's and Leah's world this universe is a comic book, but now we are actually here?" Daisy asked.
"Because there are multiple multiverses. A multiverse is a connection of universes. We came from one multiverse to yours and now we are in this one. To explain why it is a comic back in your world, most likely, the writers had dreams of one of this multiverse universes and began the comics." Red Tornado answered.
"Cool, cool." Katie nodded pretending to have understood everything. "So what now?"
"Now, some of us gear up and go out. We have to know what were dealing with here." Artemis said already preparting her knifes.
"No patrolling without breakfast." Leah clapped her hands as she sent everyone to the kitchen.
As they were eating Bernard and Virgil were failing to contain their excitement. "Do you think he's as cool here as in the comics?" Virgil asked.
"I don't know. But I can't wait to meet him." Bernard answered.
"You two don't seem like you came from a world of superheroes, met most of the big superheroes there and are yourselves superheroes." Barbara pointed out.
"So what Babs? We've been out of the game so long we start to fanboying over other supes and now we're here." Virgil told her as she shook her head smilling.
"Do you think the fashion is the same around here?" Sarah asked Courtney.
"If it is, we'll be good." They clinked their juice glasses.
"Ok, everyone." John called. "We'll send a team to investigate. Dr. Fate, Static, Batgirl and Artemis."
"Babe, you need a superhero name. I've told you that." Sarah told Artemis.
"How about Archer Girl?" Courtney proposed.
Artemis blushed but accepted it as Sarah kissed her cheek.
Five minutes later they were ready. Bernard had the helmet of fate in his hands and he was looking at it like greeting an old friend. He putted it on and his cloak and cape wrapped around him. Dr. Fate was back.
"Still Bernie?" Courtney asked him.
"Still Bernie." He answered.
Virgil strapped his gaunlets and putted on the goggles. "Do you think we'll stop some criminals?" He asked Barbara.
"Possibly. But we have to be careful." She lowered her cowl like seeing herself whole again.
Artemis was already pacing by the door. "Took you long enough." She said to the others.
Elizabeth pulled her sleeve. "Temis ready?"
"yes little one." She crouched to the twins eye level.
"Be good." Kent hugged her.
Courtney had to give Bernard one last hug and a kiss on the helmet. "Promise me you'll return."
"I promise."
Sarah was kissing Artemis. "Don't make no villains pee in their pants on your first day."
Artemis smirked. "Can't promise that."
Leah talked next. "Be careful out there. All of you. No ruckus."
"Listen to mom." John said smilling from the doorway.
The four left. Deadman and Shade tried to leave next but Zatanna got them.
"Where are you going?" She asked.
"To explore." Deadman answered.
"To appreaciate this new world." Shade added.
"We already have a team doing that. You can go help Red Tornado organise the spice cabinet." She pointed as they huffed but complied.
Bernard, Artemis, Barbara and Virgil were going throught the rooftops of Manhattan. Virgil hovering on his disk, Artemis and Barbara jumping from ledge to ledge and Benrard just flying.
"Is it weird I missed this?" Virgil asked.
"Not at all. Once a hero always a hero." Bernard said.
They heard people screaming nearby. A jewel store was being robbed by three dudes. The Enforcers: Montana, Fancy dan and Ox.
A terrified clerk was gathering the pearls. "Move faster sweetheart. We want those jewels and we are getting impacient." Montana cracked his whip.
Need help?" Ox smashed a glass box and started removing the diamonds.
"Cops are slow today." Fancy Dan said spunning his pistol on his finger. But then a batarang hits his hand and the pistol falls.
"Sorry boys, but those jewels would look awful on you." Batgirl said.
"New costume freaks?" Montana asked.
"We just arrived." Static said, hands glowing.
"Stop them." Fancy Dan ordered the other two.
Ox rushed forward. Artemis grabbed his fist, jumped above him and kicked his back.
He stumbled forward and Barbara kidcked him in the jaw.
Montana cracked his whip to Virgil, who simply grabbed it and fired an eletrical pulse, knocking Montana out.
Fancy Dan looked at Dr. Fate. "Give me the helmet."
Dr.Fate tilted his head and the guns disintrigrated themselves. "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THIS?" Dan asked as Artemis punched him, knocking him out.
The police arrived and arrested the three criminals. The four heroes watched it all from a nearby rooftop.
"That was so cool." Virgil said.
"It's good to be back." Barbara high fived him.
"Felt good indeed." Artemis smirked crossing her arms.
"So you guys are the ones that stopped the worst mariachi trio in existence?" a voice called from behind them and they all turned. There, perched on the ledge in a red and blue suit was Spider-Man.
"Oh my god." Virgil was looking like he was going to pass out.
"That's Spider-Man." Bernard whispered to him equally excited.
"Focus you two." Barbara smacked the back of their heads.
"So what are you? Scary bat, eletric guy, rage archer and magic helmet?" He asked them.
"I am Batgirl." Barbara started. "This are Archer Girl, Dr. Fate and Static. We are from another dimension."
"Cool,cool. So you guys are also heroes?" He asked next.
"Yes. And we know about you Peter Parker." Artemis said smirking.
"How do you know my name?" He asked shocked.
"Relax. Your secret's kept with us." Artemis reassured him.
"No because like, ever since I joined the SHIELD /Avengers everyone in the superhero community knows my name and it's hard to have a personal life with Tony Stark or Reed Richards constantly calling."
"Iron Man exists?" Virgil light up like a christmas tree.
Spider.Man looked at him and laughed. "You're ok dude?"
"I'm ok. I'm more than ok." Virgil said vibrating.
"We are...just really excited to meet you." Bernard said extanding an hand to Spider-Man who shook it.
"The pleasure's all mine Dr. Fate. The city could always use new heroes around." He told him.
"I'm never washing this glove." Bernard whispered to Virgil.
"Sorry guys, gotta go, class about to start. But it was nice to meet you." Spider-Man waved goodbye swinging out of the rooftop.
"Hopeless, both of you." Artemis glared at Bernard and Virgil.
"Hey...Don't target us because we were fanboying." Virgil defended himself.
"It was kinda of cute and creepy." Barbara said.
"Let's get back to the mansion." Bernard ordered as they moved back.
When they opened the door, there was laughter coming from the living room.
Everyone was there, and sitted on the armchair drinking tea was: Dr. Strange.
"Ah Dr. Fate. A pleasure to finally meet you. Your family spoke highly of you." Strange greeted them.
Bernard breath caught up to him. "Dr. Strange it's a pleasure sir."
"The pleasure it's all mine. I've received a visit last night from your friend the Spectre about you all coming here. He said your family philosophy would be necessary to defeat what's coming." Strange explained.
"There's a rule in this family. If someone's important to one of us it's important to all of us." John said.
"What's this evil Doctor?" Red Tornado asked.
"Kang the Conqueror." Starnge answered.
"The time maniac?" Barbara asked.
"Yep. So cool." Virgil added.
Courtney laced her fingers around Bernard's who had taken off the helmet. "Whatever happens, we'll face it together." She told him.
"Always." He said as they kissed.
"I hope tomorrow all of you, and I really mean all of you even the civilians, join me and other heroes at a meeting in the SHIELD's helicarrier." Strange announced.
"We'll be there." Leah answered.
"Are ghosts allowed?"Deadman asked.
"I don't see why not." Strange answered.
"Let's see how this world taxpayer money is spent." Shade said.
"We wanted a normal internship and somehow we're being drafted to a superhero meeting." Katie whispered to Daisy.
"I know. SOunds fun." Daisy nodded.
"We go to big, sky boat." Elizabeth cheered.
"Just tomorrow." Zatanna told her.
"Can Dino go?" Kent asked raising his plastic dinasour.
"Of course little one." Swamp Thing placed his hand on his shoulder.
"So how was patrol Archer Girl?" Sarah asked Artemis, placing her arms around her.
"Good, we stopped a bank robbery and met Spider-Man." Artemis told her.
"Hmm. GOod. You look so hot when you're heroic." Sarah told her kissing her jaw.
"If you want to continue doing that, go to your room." Leah told them, as Sarah grabbed Artemis hand and took her upstarirs as everyone laughed.
