A Little longer

Summary:

Classic sans loves the stars, but they've always been out of reach. Fortunately, he knows someone who's face contains space itself. If he could just have the confidence, it could be his.

Notes:

This is my first fanfiction, and just fiction in general that I've written. So don't expect this to be Shakespeare. Lazystars is one of the truest ways sans could practice self love tbh

Work Text:

The stars.

Bright sparkling balls of fiery intensity that exist within the void of space.

For years Classic had dreamed of somehow reaching them. Touching them, exploring every mystery that they held.

And for years they've been out of reach. The roof of the underground ran high and solid. The fake stars that were splattered across waterfall doing little to make up for the lack of sky. Even when monsterkind reaches the surface the stars were out of reach. Dulled by the lights of civilization, and getting no closer through the telescope lenses.

But none of those years matter here on this ledge.
On this dusty moon surface where the stars twinkled unobstructed. They were so close now. But they didn't compare to the glowing nebula like blush that spread across Outers' skull every time he laughed.

"man, your puns really are stellar!" Outer exclaimed, leaning back on his arms with a laugh.

"well, i take them very Siriusly you know. especially when i'm in such star-mazing company. "

"ok, that one may have been a bit of a star-etch."

"and that one wasn't?" Classic laughed, leaning closer towards outer so that their shoulders nearly touched.

It would be so easy for Classic to slide his hand on top of Outers. To close the distance between their faces and finally claim the starry sky for himself. But he didn't want to risk it. Outer was close enough to Classic in terms of personality that he knew what would happen if he messed it up. Sanses were not exactly known for their ability to directly involve themselves with conflict. Even if that conflict was the unrequited feelings of another version of himself. There would be no mean words or disgusted snorts of disbelief. Rather their relationship would turn awkward and slowly break apart. Classic would never again feel the quiet comfort of listening to Outers soft stories, never again feel Outers pristine bones against his own in a hug writhe with comfort and understanding, never again swap puns while eating cheese and ketchup sandwiches under the light of the stars. Outer was Classics closest friend, and he didn't want to ruin his relationship over some silly crush. At least not right now, not until they've known each other for a little longer. Until they've shared enough casual words and secrets to know everything about each other.

Classic has waited this long for the stars, he could wait a little longer.
