Work Text:
My dear, what has
led you here,
out of all places?
You know I'm currently at quite the busy working, so I
sadly can't do much right now.
The strong scents of chemicals wavered through the thick air. Additionally, it even had a turquoise tint to it. The temperatures were low.
As you reach out, vision unclear, you attempt at grasping the doctor's coat. He turned around, long lab-coat swishing and pushing away the freezy breezy fog.
Before YOU could take hold of his plastic hand, he took yours first, as he was able to adjust his sight faster than you.
"What are you working on, if I may ask?", you question, curious of what the scientist was plotting this time.
Your hands were embedded in another, warmth reaching your fingertips from his.
Ah yes
in regards of my latest findings
I just had to form my theory into a
full practical experiment
Do you wish to accompany me?
"I do, I'd like to watch my favourite scientist find things unimaginable. I'm still curious what this is about though?", you reached over his shoulder to look onto the table more closely, eyes still having to adjust to the circumstances in the lab.
It appeared to be a dark, shimmering substance in a secured glass. Around it, the doctor had his numerous utensils placed in a special set with scalpel, scissors, magnifying glass and more.
Having lightly laid his head onto yours, he began explaining softly, for every highly scientific term to be understandable for even you.
You see
I have found this
Extraordinary
Substance of which i have yet to determine
Its source.
He began exhibiting the glass. The pitch-black material hung onto the inner sides, wavering with each movement the doctor's hand made.
It had a certain glimmer to it, a shimmer, so to say. One might even go as far to say.. it was glistening.
You observe the blob intensely, not noticing how close you've already moved in to look at it from close-up.
..you begin to notice another trait of this thing:
Because as it swings and swirls around in that glass, you think to perceive.... pictures? In it..?
No, not possibly. You shake your head in doubt over this. Not POSSIBLY.
.. although.
The scientist himself now also begins to take a look at his discovery, the stereotypical goggles put on his inky eyes.
... Pictures of memories. Well, possibly memories? You weren't quite sure, they were hard to make out of the dark opacity. Though it appeared to show past scenarios:
The picnic in the ruins, a meeting with sans and Toriel, the wonderful dance, together on a seemingly endless field of flowers....
It looked too good to be true, really. But THAT'S what your lifes had been up to, and it was one dream come true.
Moved by nostalgia, you have to catch upon the now altering substance. It suddenly gained transparency; lost its misty and unclear form.
Though it was still dark, you now were able to actually see through this special experiment. Amd what you saw was..... The doctor, of course!
Yes, you looked him right into his-
Eyes
Where his eyes should've been.
But where they weren't. Not quite.
He appeared all shattered and corrupted, blurry and uncertain. It was as if this substance..
"Wow, it really is.. peculiar."
It truly is, is it
Not?
You both gave the glass one last look, with admiration on one side, and sheer confusion on the other.
Alas
I sense I must've worked enough for today.
Infact,
The research is going on so well that
There's be nothing wrong with having
A bit of a break
For a moment
Before he could even take the goggles off, you dragged W.D. out of the laboratory, deciding that it was now FINALLY time to kick back and relax.
You quite literally throw your partner onto the couch with impact, as he splatters onto it like the ink blob he is.
As he rearranges himself you can't suppress a chuckle, though his ghost-white face has gained quite a pouty expression.
Gaster can't really be infuriated though, you've just been through too much together for him to lose his attachment to you this easily.
So you both just let loose, turning on whatever is running on the underground TV.
"Ahh at last, some peace.", you began searching for a comfortable position on the sofa, finding yourself cradled in the doctor's lap.
Indeed, we have been working
For quite some time these weeks
It was about time
We had found
A reasonable break
He murmurs softly, as his hands embrace you lightly, and the two of you doze away fleetingly.
