Chapter Text
Peace is a fragile thing , this is something House Targaryen knows but has not yet learned to make it last. After Redgrass Field and the end of the Blackfire rebellion, the realm at last released its breath and said that the time for peace had finally come. Then Ashford Meadow happened and the heir to the throne was left permanently damaged, alive yes, but not whole again. A prince was sent to exile, another called kinslayer behind closed doors and one was gone for a while to learn how to be a better man to the realm.
But it was the women, the never mentioned women, that held together the houses of the realm. During the war, they kept the households going, during Ashford they kept their men in line with whispers and councils said as just mere private thoughts and after, it was with the promise of marriage of their daughters hands to strange men that so called peace reigned upon them.
It was foolish to think that Naerys Targaryen, the only daughter of Baelor Breakspear and Jena Dondarrion, would escape such fate. She was a princess, yes, but that only meant she was to be sold to the highest bidder. A mothers love is a fierce thing but within the House of the Dragon sometimes it's not enough to protect your children. So Jena did what she could, she prepared Naerys in the best way possible, she would turn the girl into a woman who knew when to speak and when to listen, to inspire her ladies such loyalty that they would do anything to protect their mistress and to learn how to guide her future husband with such gentle hand that no one, not even himself, would notice.
Until the time for Naerys to leave her family side to start her own family, she would be sheltered from the vile sight of men. She was going to grow with her loving brothers, be the jewel of her fathers eyes and the shadow of her mother. Give the girl time to be only that, a girl. Because at the end some storms need to be faced alone.
