Chapter Text
Many say that God or Gods exist while others believe in no such thing, but what if they did exist? Would they have a form or be as translucent as the air we breathe? Are they one or many? Many can give you an answer but every time it changes. And with these changes comes luck, many seem to have it while others seem to need it and for you starting this journey it seems that luck was not on your side.
You sigh as you close up shop for what felt like the tenth night in a row. After locking the door and giving it a little jiggle, you finally feel secure enough and give yourself that little stretch of relief. You hiss softly as your joints pop and creak like the branches on an old willow tree, they beg you for a break but you simply ignore that plea as you start to make your way home.
Today was exhausting as you lost your favorite spider man pin on the way to the shop, a costumer complained that their food had a hair in it that clearly didn’t belong to you but your manger still scolded you about it evidently docking your pay, and your shoe lace snapped twice during your shift.
You grumble looking up at the sky as heavy clouds block the view of the seemingly never ending skyscraper’s. Your cheeks and ears feel frozen as the chilling air brushes itself against you like an old friend making you shiver and snuggle into your hoodie just a bit more. Your walk was silent except for the occasional car or ally cat and since you have nothing more to do because your headphones died you look around paying much more attention to your surroundings then you usually do-
“Hey is that my Spider-Man pin?” You jog up to the stop light next to a 15 yo looking boy, his eyes glued to his phone as he laughs at something only his eyes can see. Not minding him you pick up your pin as the cross walk turns white. The young man crosses still not paying attention as you finish pining Spider-Man back onto your backpack in its rightful place you might add with a smile only for it to fade when. You hear a loud horn blasting off the buildings making you dizzy. You look to your left to see the boy frozen with fear just as you are and for a moment you stood watching, thinking on how his family will miss him. You had a life, not a grand one, but a life non the less that you wanted to keep but as you look at the pure terror of that young man something in you snapped. ‘Oh shit! shitshitshitshitshitshitshit-‘ Your feat moved as you cursed yourself within your head, ‘what are you doing YN?! You’re not the main charter I wont survive this!’
You rationalized this a bit too late as you slam your body into his and before you could move a searing pain slammed into you. You were quickly and ungracefully flipped over the top of the truck, rolling over the top of it only for gravity to take its turn as you splattered onto the pavement. Your ears ring as you feel your body go into panic as organs and bones stick out where they shouldn’t be. The taste of iron and the sea of red spills from your mouth as quickly is it takes all the air from your punctured lungs to escape. And for a moment your mind is silent, no thoughts as you eyes go blurry and the boy from earlier is running towards you screaming something as everything fades to black.
You feel cold mind turning to ice only for your limbs to become fire, something was dragging you pulling you away from your body. You try to look at your limbs only to see nothing, no body, no air, no noise just silence in a void of empty space. You thought death would be scarier but it’s peaceful as you walk- or rather float wondering how long you’ll stay like this until your mind has faded. For hours you wander only to stop when you hear a humming it was a gentle melody, something you swear you’ve heard since birth but long forgotten the lyrics. It was quiet enough to not hurt you head but loud enough to follow and follow you did. Going and going until you saw a light one so gentle and pure light it made you wonder if you really did reach heaven after all. And the moment the humming stops that white engulfs you.
Looking around you gasp as cards of all shapes and sizes fill the room, something white, some gold, others black but before you could touch one a voice stops you. “Ah ah ah I wouldn’t touch that one my dear for that card has a corrupted world being tossed back into chaos” You look around trying to spot the owner of that voice but you don’t see anyone. As if the voice could read your hesitation, it speaks again. “We are everything and nothing my dear, we are something you wish to see but cannot touch, we are the void” This time you try to speak but nothing flows out, you remember your nothing but a soul no body no mouth. You can feel the void smile and the next moment you have a body.
“Where am I” your voice was soft as if it had been unused for a long time. The voice speaks again “My dear you are with us in the void of time, a place not many had the chance to view” You gave the void an uneasy look. “But why here shouldn’t I be resting in peace, become reincarnated, or something!” The voice laughed the cards swirling around me with each movement the voice made. “You would be correct but you are here because you died far too early”
You deadpan your previous life’s attitude rearing its head even in front of this… I don’t know God? Gods? Void? Yeah Void. “….. Come out with it, did I die for no reason?” The Voice was quiet only to release a sigh “Yes my dear it is unfortunate but your death had been in vain”. You sigh “So now what? Why am I here?” At this the voice perked up “For your courage you have been granted a second chance, Please YN, from this array of cards please pick two that shall forever steal your fate” and the cards begin to to fly, circling you with colors mixing, bleeding from one to the next only to stop when you begin to move. You float and walk for what feels like hours pass only to stop when something catches your eye. A red card with golden writing that seems to be in Chinese ‘外國人’ it read as you ponder, times like these where you wish you could read Chinese. You look up snapping out of your thoughts when a card smacks into your forehead, this one a pearl white with a black spider with a blood red hourglass symbol on its body.
The voice startles you out of your trance “Ah those cards have never been touched in till today such picky things really but it seams that they are fond of you, The Foreigner and the Black Widow cards have made their choices, but the real question is, have you?” You look down and think, ‘something picked me? That’s never happened…..Thank you cards’ And as if they heard you they glowed and pressed against your chest, you gasp as their touch feels like hot steel, the cards melting and becoming one with your body and soul as you feel a tug, your eyes closing once again as the void disappears forever.
“It is final young one, my last words are wishes for your safety and prosperity on your journey. May you never forget who you are for you are YN LN, the one who will change this world for the better, good luck our Spider-Sage”
