Chapter 1: Concerns
Chapter Text
Shoto frowned as he stared at his screen, watching the news play on. A new hero had hit the streets, and most people were still excited about All Might’s return to the prefecture.
Fuyumi let out a scream, grabbing Shoto’s hand and making him jump. He dropped his phone, giving her a look. The plane shook, making her yelp again and squeeze Shoto’s hand harder.
Natsou glanced at them before turning over, returning to his nap. Rei shook her head, glancing out the window. Japan was getting closer, little lights growing bigger as the plane descended.
~~~
The boxes were put down. They had left most of their stuff in their house in France, but they had brought all the necessary pieces. Natsou dumped his medical textbooks in his room, filling up the bookshelves with tome after tome.
Fuyumi was cooking a meal with Rei, both singing along to the tunes on the radios.
Shoto stayed in his room, putting the few items he had brought with him down. He had his school supplies and his clothes and a small locked box full of childish drawings and pictures and even some photos, none of which he wrote, drew or took.
The only other thing he had was his computer, mostly for school work. Shoto paused as he saw his phone buzzing. The messages came through, written in French. ‘Oi, you landed yet? Don’t tell me you died,’ Your King typed aggressively as a different sender, Just a Cat scolded him.
‘Don’t scream at Shoto, he has anxiety.’
‘He’s not some child. And he’s ignoring me!’
‘You’re both too energetic for 1am,’ the final member of the group, Cheese Man, sent.
‘It’s not 1am for Shoto, so he should respond to me.’
Shoto picked up his phone. ‘I have arrived safely.’
‘Great. Can we sleep now?’ Cheese Man asked as Shoto hummed.
‘You do not need to wait up for me.’
‘We were worried, moron. We wanted to check you were okay,’ Just a Cat stated as Your King quickly typed back.
‘I was not worried! He was just ignoring me. It was pissing me off.’
‘Thank you for your concern, Theo, Yseult, but you can rest now,’ Shoto sent as Your King immediately sent a stream of messages.
‘I was not concerned! Stop making me sound pathetic!”
‘It is not pathetic to care for someone,’ Just a Cat responded as Your King continued to scream through his messages. Cheese Man had already left the chat.
Shoto sighed, lying down on the bed. He was back in Japan. It felt weird. He didn’t remember much about living in Japan. He remembered pieces of his father and Touya, but it all faded away day by day.
“Shoto?” Fuyumi knocked on the door as he sat up. “We made breakfast.”
Shoto smiled, pulling himself off the bed. “Thank you.”
“Are you excited?” Fuyumi asked as she walked Shoto to the kitchen.
“I am unsure. I do not know if I will pass the exam.”
“Of course you will,” Natsou interrupted. “You’re super powerful, Sho. And you’ve been working hard.”
Shoto looked down. “I hope it is enough.”
Rei shook her head, wrapping an arm around Shoto’s shoulder. She pressed a kiss to his forehead. “You are enough.”
“So, a day before your exam, what do you want to do?” Fuyumi glanced at him as Shoto paused.
After a long moment, he looked back at her. “I want soba.”
Fuyumi laughed. “Then soba for dinner it is.”
~~~
Shoto took a deep breath as he walked to the school. UA. The place where his father got his hero licence. The best school in Japan. It towered above him. He almost walked away, then he heard something so close to being familiar.
“Come on, Kacchan. You should be more impressed.” The green-haired boy shoved his blond companion.
“Shut up, Izuku! You’re not the boss of me.”
“And if you keep screaming, UA would never let you in.”
Shoto watched the two teenagers walking closer to the school when the green one, Izuku, froze in his step.
The blond looked back. “Stop being stupid. It’s not that impressive!”
“Shoto?” Izuku stared at Shoto, making him gulp.
He knew this kid. His first friend. “Izuku?”
The boy grinned brightly, charging forward and tackling Shoto into a hug. “I can’t believe it. What are you doing back in Japan? Have you come to study at UA? This is incredible-” Izuku let out a scream as Katsuki pulled him back.
“You’re talking too much.”
“I am not.”
Shoto laughed softly. “You two haven’t changed.”
Izuku puffed out his chest. “I’m proud of that. How have you been?”
“Things got better after we left, away from him.”
Izuku nodded as he looped an arm around Shoto’s. “Well, no time to lose. We have an exam to get to.”
Shoto hummed before glancing around them. “Where is Toga?”
Katsuki scoffed. “She’s late.”
“We are really early, Kacchan.”
“And she will be really late.”
Izuku rolled his eyes. “She’ll turn up. She’ll be happy to see you.”
“As long as she doesn’t bite me again. I’ve still got the scar.”
Katsuki laughed. “Weak ass.”
Shoto blinked. “No. She bit my hand.”
Izuku shook his head, pulling them both inside. “Come on. We should find our seats. There are thousands of people coming here.”
“None of them matters. They’re just extras,” Katsuki shouted as Shoto gave him a look.
“That means.”
“Shut up, Icy-Hot.”
They walked in. In a different room in the building, getting ready to watch all the exams, All Might glared at Deku, who was standing at the back.
“I still can’t believe they got the top two heroes of Japan,” Vlad muttered as Aizawa hummed non-committedly.
“It would be better if those two got along.”
“Do you know why they don’t like each other?”
Aizawa gave him a look. “I just stay out of their way.” Aizawa glanced back at Deku. Oboro was standing before him, chatting happily as Deku showed him pictures of his kids. “My partners have different ideas, though.”
Present Mic walked onto the stage, being streamed into the control room as he looked over the children. "Welcome, boys and girls, to the UA entrance exam!" Students tensed, a serious aura crossing the room. "Can I get a 'yeah'?!"
Chapter 2: Singe
Chapter Text
Toga grinned as she waited for the bus. “This is going to be easy.” She finished pulling the little red vials from her back, sliding them into her pocket.
“I still can't believe you're allowed those,” Katsuki muttered as Toga scoffed.
“It's considered vital to my Quirk activation.”
“And Toga didn't tell them she needs an emotional attachment. They are afraid she'll start biting the other students,” Izuku added as Toga giggled.
“I still might-” Katsuki smacked the back of her head as she screamed- “Katsuki! What the fuck? That hurt.”
“Tough.”
“Izuku,” Shoto interrupted as Toga gasped.
“You're still alive!” Shoto blinked in confusion as Toga gave him a look. “Don't play dumb with me. You dropped off the face of the earth and stopped writing to us. Izuku cried for weeks.” Toga hugged Izuku over dramatically as Izuku blushed.
“I didn't cry.”
“He did,” Toga and Katsuki stated together as Shoto opened and closed his mouth.
“Oh. I apologise. I stopped receiving letters and had believed you had moved on.”
Toga gasped. “Never.”
Izuku paused, his eyes shifting as if doing complex maths. “Is it possible that someone’s letter got lost in the post and never arrived?”
Toga let out a small sound. “Fucking postal system. It strikes again!”
Katsuki scoffed, rolling his eyes. “It doesn't matter now.”
“Quite right, Kacchan.” Toga waved a finger in front of them. “What matters now is the exam, so we can all get into this elite school and become heroes together. Agreed?” The group nodded as Toga pulled out her ID. “So, which area are you in, Shoto?”
Shoto blinked before pulling his card out, reading area F.
“Damn. Guess we're not that lucky. We'll regroup when this is over. By the gate.”
“Knowing you two, we may as well just head to the infirmary,” Katsuki muttered as Toga glared at him.
Before Shoto could ask, they were called to the buses. Toga and Katsuki ran off as Izuku turned to Shoto, giving him a shy smile. “Good luck, Sho.”
Shoto gulped. “Right. Good luck, Izuku.”
Izuku ran off as Shoto tried to steady his breath before he got on the bus.
~~~
Izuku let out a small sound as he stretched his muscles. Toga and Katsuki may find this an easy task, but for Izuku, it was a little trickier.
He glanced around the area. Probably 50 students altogether. It was impossible to know how many robots were prepared, but even so, there were going to be limited numbers. Can't hesitate. He would need to destroy every robot he came across.
A buzzer snapped Izuku out of his thoughts. No one moved, then Present Mic scolded them. “What are you doing?! There are no countdowns in real life.”
Instantly, the students ran forward. Izuku felt a small surge of pride that he was outrunning most of them. Only those using their Quirks to move got ahead.
The city they were in was overrun with robots. Armour plated with no clear weakness. Just perfect. Izuku glanced to the side before he ran into an alleyway. He slid under the robot waiting for him.
The second robot reared up to attack as Izuku jumped onto the first. The second robot plunged its fist into the first, destroying it in a single blow.
Izuku took note of that. He jumped to the side, grabbing a bin lid and using it as a rudimentary shield. He pushed the claw aside. Then he ducked back. With a bit of effort, he started hitting the first robot with his own claw until the arm snapped free.
He stumbled back before ducking under the second robot's attack. Izuku lifted the claw higher before letting out a cry, plunging it into the robot's chest.
The robot stumbled back before turning off.
Izuku grinned as he put the claw down. With no robots killing him, he could take his time. He pulled out the tool kit Deku had forced Nezu to allow, and he began unscrewing and tearing the robot apart.
Izuku strapped a claw to each finger and a piece of the armour on each of his arms, held together by tightly tied wires.
Izuku stepped back into the light as he charged at the next robot, cutting into it with his claws.
“Damn, that kid is freaky,” Present Mic muttered as Deku raised an eyebrow.
“That's my nephew.”
Present Mic jumped, giving Deku a smile. “Great kid!”
“He's smart,” Nezu observed. “Using the robot’s strengths against them.”
“He might have longer to plan,” All Might grumbled as Deku shot him a look.
“I can assure you I gave my daughter and her friends no information. The reason they are here to begin with is to prove themselves, not have an easy ride. If I wanted them to have an easy time, I would have sent them to the recommendation exam.”
Oboro let out an excited sound. “You got schooled.”
“Please sit down,” Aizawa muttered as Present Mic laughed fondly.
A loud explosion came from a different city as Midnight pulled a face. “That kid is too aggressive.”
“That is also my nephew.”
Midnight jumped. “He's powerful.”
“Too much for his own good,” Deku agreed. “He's at the top. That could backfire on him. His ego is already enough.”
Midnight chuckled as Oboro glanced at the screens. “So your nephews are both at the top. Where's your kid?”
Deku glanced at one screen. “Surprisingly, she's being restrained and smart.”
On the screen, a robot sparked before crashing to the floor. A young boy hopped out, or rather, Toga hopped out looking like a young boy. Yamoto, her brother, is able to turn his entire body into water.
Toga turned, leaping into the next robot as she continued to drown its electrics. It tingled a little, but she knew Yamoto was completely immune to electricity.
“Impressive,” Nezu muttered. “Definitely a strong batch of students. Now let's see how they handle the next phase.”
Nezu pressed a giant red button as the zero pointers appeared across the areas. Most students had the same thought, ‘run!’ which is what Izuku thought. Katsuki would be proud to know he was the only person in the entire exam who thought ‘fuck off, I'm busy’ at the robot.
Toga, on the other hand, was smart enough to know she could handle the robot and lucky enough to remember she didn't have to.
Toga went to run when she heard something in the rubble.
“Help me,” a voice begged, clawing at the dirt.
Toga was smart. She was a lot smarter than she gave herself credit for. But everyone would agree that what she did next was incredibly dumb… except Toga. She thought this was the best plan.
His disguise fell apart around her as she ran at the robot. She reached behind her, punching in the emergency code. Four vials, much smaller than the ones she had easy access to, were inside. She popped the cap off one vial, downing the contents in one. Her form changed around her as she reached the zero pointer’s leg.
“Don't you worry. This will be a singe.” She pressed her hand into the robot as it stopped moving. Cracks travelled up the robot’s leg. The zero pointers turned grey and then broke apart into dust.
Toga stood as Tenko, panting a little as her disguise fell apart, falling off her like wet clay.
She walked back to the person who needed a hand. “Are you okay?”
The girl looked at Toga as she gulped. “Yes. Thank you.” The girl was pale, and she had blood on her leg. She had brown hair and pink circles on her cheeks.
“Oh.”
“Oh?”
“You're really cute.”
The girl turned bright red as the final buzzer sounded.
Toga let out a happy sound. Recovery Girl wandered through the area as Toga grinned. “I'll see you around, hopefully,” she sang, giving the girl a wink as she let out a startled sound.
“Are you alright, dearie?” Recovery Girl asked, eyeing up the injury nervously.
The girl continued to stare at Toga. “Shit. I'm gay.”
“What?”
The girl snapped back to reality, letting out a horrified scream before she hit her head on the floor. “Just take me now, sweet death.”
“Right. I'm going to heal that wound,” Recovery Girl stated, deciding she wasn't dealing with that.
Chapter 3: Pretty Girl
Chapter Text
Toga arrived at the gate first. She felt personally insulted. “And they say I'm late.”
Katsuki showed up shortly after, his head raised high and an arrogant aura around him.
“Let me guess, you did shit,” Toga joked as Katsuki scoffed.
“Aced it.”
Toga rolled her eyes. “Whatever, I got to use Tenko.”
Katsuki raised an eyebrow. “You took down that big guy? Why? It was a waste of fucking time.”
“It wasn't. I got to meet a cute girl. She was so pretty.”
Katsuki nodded. “Sure. You get her number then?”
Toga froze before she let out a horrid sound. “I forgot! I have to go back? She might still be there!”
Katsuki wrapped his arm around her throat, pulling her back. “Not a chance! You'll get lost and we'll never get to leave.”
“But pretty girl.”
“She forgot to ask another girl for her number,” Izuku laughed as Toga pouted.
“It's not funny.”
“It is when you chronically do this. I swear you've never remembered.”
“I try.”
“Do you?” Katsuki have Toga a look as she let out an annoyed look, scrambling out of his arm lock.
“Whatever, where's Shoto?”
The group shared a look before Izuku sighed. “I'll call him.”
Katsuki let out an amused sound. “You see, unlike you, Izuku can ask a boy for his number.”
“I heard that. It's not like that. I just, unlike you, can make friends.”
“What friends? Everyone you know is related to you in some way.”
“I'm not listening.” Izuku rang Shoto up. “Hey, Sho. Where are you?”
“Oh. I'm in the infirmary.”
Izuku let out a sound as they took off. Katsuki threw open the door, but before anyone could interrogate or greet Shoto, Toga let out a loud gasp.
“Pretty girl!”
The girl from earlier jumped, blushing again.
“Is that the one you told us about, or is your ass just that gay?” Katsuki grumbled as Toga jabbed his side.
“Hi, can I have your number?” Toga grinned as the girl blushed more. She stumbled over her words as Toga tilted her head. She grinned, taking the girl's hand and a pen from Recovery Girl. “Here. This is my number. I hope you use it.”
Toga winked at the girl again as Izuku rolled his eyes. “And to remind you, we're here for Shoto.”
“He's fine. This is more important.”
“So what happened?” Izuku glanced over Shoto, but he couldn't see any injuries. Recovery Girl had already healed him.
“Someone asked for my help, so I may have tried to fight the zero pointer.” He paused. “And lost.”
“Omg, me too, but I won,” Toga announced as Katsuki glared at her.
“Not helping.”
Izuku just sighed, shaking his head fondly. “It's okay. I'm sure that person appreciated it anyway.”
“He did. He said I was super manly.”
“He sounds annoying,” Katsuki muttered as Recovery Girl scoffed.
“You're all annoying. Mind getting out of my office now?”
“Oh, right.” Shoto went to get up as Recovery hit him with her stick.
“Not you! You fell four stories. You're here until your parents come.”
“Oh. You did tell me that.”
Izuku and Katsuki gave Recovery Girl a look as she sighed. “He's fine. Mild concussion.”
“Is there such a thing as a mild concussion?” Izuku asked as Katsuki grinned.
“Want me to give you one?”
“Just get out- Not you, Himura!”
~~~
Deku paused as he entered Nezu’s office. “Can I help you?”
Nezu nodded. “You weren't surprised.”
“Surprised about what?”
“All Might, joining our staff. You weren't surprised in the least.”
Deku shrugged. “I don't find someone who hates me that impressive.”
“That is not what I am talking about.” Nezu pressed a button as a series of news articles appeared between him and Deku. “Since you first appeared, it appears you have been at, or sent your network to, every major disaster. That's quite a feat. Impressive.”
“Thank you?”
“Very impressive. It's almost as if you were warned beforehand.”
“Listen, whatever All Might’s told you, it's not true-”
“You're a time traveller.”
Deku paused. “All Might told you that?”
“No. Grand Torino. After the battle against AFO. We dug into you. You have the Quirks of every past user of OFA.”
Deku straightened up, his eyes narrowing. “What are you saying?”
“I am saying I believe Grand Torino. You are a time traveller and one who holds a future version of OFA. Am I correct?”
“Yes.”
“You're not hiding it?”
“Would there be a point to? If I deny it, you won't believe me, and I'll be lying.”
Nezu chuckled. “I suppose. Now, I have a question for you.”
“If you want to know your future, I won't tell you. For-knowledge is not something easy to live with.”
“That is fine. I won't ask about me. I'm going to ask about you. Why does a time traveller with all the knowledge of the future and a wide network of people you can guide come to my school in this precise year? Do not lie to me. I know it's not your daughter. You would have come here for Tenko if it were about your child.”
Deku thought for a moment before he sat down. “You may not like the answer.”
“Tell me anyway.”
“It starts in about 2 months when a villain attacks your school.”
~~~
Deku returned home, hearing a loud ruckus from the living room.
“Now, I may be losing count, but I'm fairly sure I don't have this many kids,” he joked as the kids stopped.
He did a headcount. Tenko was curled in a chair, peacefully sleeping despite the noise. Kazu was drawing at the window, sketching on his new canvas. Toga was with Katsuki and a new person playing a card game. It didn't take long for Deku to work out that the kid was Fuyumi.
Natsou wasn't far away from her, talking medicine and science with Hana, who had recently begun her final year of med school, learning to make cures, vaccines and medicines from her lab.
Shoto was here too, sitting with Izuku, Rei and Tsutsumi. Yamoto and Yume were in the kitchen with Inko, and the three youngest were surrounding Akari.
Eriko, their 9-year-old girl, was chatting faster than Akari could keep up. He often said she got it from Deku, and Deku often agreed.
Ieyoshi, their youngest boy at 8, was playing with his electric drum set. While they could hear the repeated thuds, it was significantly better than the drum kit Best Jeanist had got to punish Deku for celebrating his top 10 status a few years back.
Lastly was Anri. The 6-year-old girl was whispering to Akari about something going on at her school. All the names went right through Akari’s head.
Akari looked at Deku with a pleading look, caught between their two daughters' endless catch. They didn't even stop to greet him.
“Alright, you two, why don't you come here and tell me about your days?”
The girls climbed off Akari, running into Deku’s arms. They immediately went into yapping as Deku laughed. Unlike Akari, he knew all these names.
Akari stood, kissing Deku’s cheek. “Thank you.”
Izuku shuffled over. “Don't suppose you can tell me how we did.”
“Sorry, that is a no, though I can tell you, you were all noticed.”
“Of course they noticed me,” Katsuki boasted as Toga scoffed.
“They noticed all of us.”
Shoto fidgeted. “That means they saw me fail.”
“Shoto, you didn't fail,” Fuyumi announced.
“Not yet,” muttered Natsou as Fuyumi glared at him.
“Well, whenever your results get here, we can take you out. No matter the result.”
The kids cheered as the room started getting busy again. Everyone returned to what they were doing.
In the kitchen, Tsutsumi stirred the pot, glancing at Rei. She tapped Rei’s side. “I'm glad you're back.”
Rei smiled back. “I'm glad to be back. The family has grown.”
Tsutsumi chuckled. “He's been blacklisted from adopting anymore. If you want to see a really great growing family, you should see Meatball.”
“The dumpster king?”
“He's got a queen now. The dumpster queen. And little dumpster kittens.”
Rei chuckled. “I would love to meet them.”
Tsutsumi grinned before taking the giant pot off the stove. “Alright mongrels. Dinner. Go alert the army.”
The children cheered, running off and immediately jumping at Tenko to wake him. “Why?” Tenko flopped over as the children continued to push him.
Chapter 4: First Day
Chapter Text
Toga smirked as she jumped out of her bed. Her uniform hung against her door. New and shiny. She changed clothes quickly before bursting out the door. “Morning!”
Most of the children were already dressed, and Hana, Tenko and Kazu had already left.
“You slept in again,” Akari stated as Toga let out a dismissive sound.
“It's fine.”
“Your train is in five minutes,” Deku announced before giving her a look, “unless you want to be taken in by your dad?”
“No! I'm going!” Toga rushed to the door as Deku reached into the fridge. He heard a horrified scream from behind as Toga rushed back in.
He held up the vials of blood, and Toga snatched them from his hand.
“I'm fine,” she announced before rushing off.
Deku laughed softly as Akari shook his head. “She shouldn't be embarrassed by you.”
Deku grinned. “Every kid should be embarrassed by their parents. If they're not, we're not doing it right.”
~~~
Toga screamed as a kind stranger held open the door. She stumbled in, panting as the train began moving. “Thank you. You saved my skin.”
“It's no problem,” the girl stated as Katsuki scoffed.
“Should have let her be kept out.”
Toga’s head shot up. Katsuki and Izuku were both sitting politely on the train. “You assholes! You could have kept the door open!” Toga kicked Katsuki as he growled, pushing her back.
“No way! Why would I help you?!”
“Asshole!”
“Psycho!”
“Dick!”
“Bitch!”
Izuku just sighed, trying to shuffle away. He paused as he spotted the girl still watching them. She had bright pink skin, pink hair, horns and black eyes. “Hello?”
The girl grinned. “Those are UA uniforms! You're going to UA!”
Toga puffed out her chest, standing taller. “That I am. Toga Midoriya at your service. This is Katsuki and Izuku.” Toga paused. “Are you going to UA too?”
The girl hopped up with an excited grin. “That I am! I'm Mina Ashido!”
“It's nice to meet you,” Izuku greeted softly as Katsuki scoffed.
“You look like an extra.”
“Don't mind him. He's an asshole,” Toga announced as Katsuki started screaming. He grabbed Toga, pushing at each other in a fairly childish way.
Izuku glanced at Mina. “Want his seat?”
She grinned. “If he's not gonna use it.” She sat down, remaining unnoticed until almost ten minutes later, when Katsuki and Toga stopped fighting.
~~~
The group arrived early. Then Toga proceeded to get completely lost. “It's not my fault! They should have given us a map,” Toga complained as Katsuki glared at her.
“You should have followed the simple instructions.”
“They were not simple.”
Mina laughed, ignoring them as she opened the door. The room was full of other people. Nearly bursting.
“Shoto,” Izuku greeted, making his way to the back.
Shoto smiled back, waving at him. “Morning, Izu. I thought you were getting the early train?”
“We did,” Katsuki snapped, glaring at Toga as she let out a scream.
“They were not basic instructions!”
“You should have learnt to not let her lead,” Shoto stated as Toga let out a scream.
“Toga?”
Toga’s tantrum was cut short as a girl walked in. “Ochaco!”
The boys shared a look. “Ochaco?”
The girl was the same one from the entrance exam, though significantly less hurt. Toga beamed happily. “You made it!”
Ochaco chuckled nervously. “You know I got accepted.”
“But I didn't dare get my hopes up until I saw you in person. I would be too devastated if you weren't here.” Toga winked as Ochaco blushed.
Shoto clicked his fingers. “I remember you. You're the one who slammed her head on the wall until Present Mic pulled you off.”
Ochaco blushed more as Toga frowned. “Why did you do that?”
Ochaco waved her hands in front of her quickly. “No reason! It's not important!”
“She said it was because-” Izuku covered Shoto’s mouth with his hand, cutting him off.
He gave Shoto a soft look. “Maybe it's best you keep that to yourself.”
Ochaco gave Izuku a thankful look while Shoto still seemed confused.
“If you're here to make friends, you should leave,” a voice interrupted, as the classroom went quiet. Aizawa lay on the floor, wrapped in a yellow sleeping bag and slurping some juice box.
“Pervert!” Toga screamed, about to throw her back at him, when Izuku and Katsuki grabbed her.
“Toga! No!”
Aizawa raised an eyebrow as he pulled himself off the floor. He didn't bother explaining, standing at the teacher's podium.
The students sat down, though Toga kept glaring at him.
Aizawa gave him the opening speech. Time is important. You are stupid. Go get changed. That's basically all Toga heard.
“So who's that guy?” Toga glanced at Izuku as the boy had the audacity to roll his eyes.
“That's Eraser Head.”
“Who?”
“Present Mic and Cloud Nine’s husband.” Katsuki gave her a look. “Deku was at their wedding.”
Toga shrugged. “Dad doesn't bring a horde of kids to a wedding.”
Izuku shook his head. “Uncle Deku saved their lives when they were still students. Cloud Nine wanted him and the rest of the original four at the wedding as a thank you.”
“Still doesn't ring a bell.”
The boys just sighed in disappointment but gave up. Shoto decided not to mention that he had no idea who that man was.
~~~
The students gathered on the field, all dressed in their school uniforms.
Aizawa stood before them, lecturing them on the backwards thinking and Quirks and something about limits.
Toga was not paying attention.
“Miss Midoriya.” Toga didn't respond as Katsuki jabbed her side aggressively.
“Present!”
Aizawa looked disappointed, but he held a ball out. “You scored highest in the entrance exam. What's the furthest you threw a ball in middle school?”
Toga frowned. “What's the distance from one side of a gym hall to the other?”
“You can't count that, that wasn't a ball,” Katsuki growled as Toga huffed.
“Well I threw it! You were there! It hit you on the head.”
Aizawa regretted asking. “Just throw the ball with your Quirk.”
Toga thought for a moment before walking back to where they had left their water bottles. She took a look at the small cooler, picking a vial of blood out.
The students watched her in confusion as she walked back. She dropped a small amount of the blood onto her tongue before her body started changing.
She got taller, more muscular, but not by much. She grinned, giving Katsuki a look as she finished turning into him. “Should I do the perfect copy?” She threw the ball up a couple of times before shifting her weight. She threw the ball with a loud explosion that rocked the school. “Die!”
The ball flew through the sky, crashing into trees. 721.6 metres.
Toga let out a small cheer as the class stared in shock.
Aizawa finished his explanation, but all Toga took away was that this was a competition and one she was going to win.
Chapter 5: Apprehension Test
Chapter Text
The apprehension test was divided into 8 mini tests, each of which the student was expected to complete. Despite Toga's earlier display, the ball thrown was not the first mini test the students were expected to complete.
That honour went to the 50-meter dash. Students ran in pairs as a number of robots recorded the results. After each run, Aizawa would write something down, though, based on the fact that the robots were recording the result, Izuku had a theory that it wasn't their times.
"Bet ya he's assessing us," Toga laughed, her eyes locked on Aizawa.
Katsuki scoffed while rolling his eyes. "That is the point."
Toga whacked him. "Not what I meant. I bet he's looking for more than our results. The raw results tell him the level we are now. Whatever those notes say tells him how far we can go."
"Ms Midoriya, Uraraka, you're next," Aizawa ordered as Toga stretched.
"Can I check? I just need to reach the line, right?"
Aizawa raised an eyebrow. "You need to cross the line."
Toga hummed before pulling out a vial. She dropped the blood on her tongue before she shrank in size.
Katsuki scoffed. "That was a dumb choice. There's no way she doesn't get penalised for not actually touching the line."
Izuku hummed as he watched Toga become his 6-year-old sister, Anri. "I would have become Kazu."
Ochaco tapped her clothes as she and Toga got ready to run. The robots announced their beginning. "Swap." Immediately, Toga disappeared, and one of the robots replaced her. She reappeared on the finish line with a smirk. "I've crossed the finish line."
Katsuki coughed. "Wait one second! Since when could Anri switch places with robots!"
Toga laughed. "Anri's Quirk has nothing to do with people. She can swap places with anything that she can visualise becoming her. It's basic quantum mechanics."
"How does that make any sense?!" Katsuki screamed as Izuku let out a small sound.
"You know, now you mention it. I do remember Anri getting stuck on the roof once. She claimed she swapped with a bird, but everyone just assumed one of the others put her up there and she was covering for whatever dumb game they were playing."
"That still can't be allowed," Katsuki shouted as Toga stuck out her tongue.
"You're just saying that cause there's no way you catch me. Too bad you didn't decide that." The siblings went quiet as they turned to Aizawa.
He sighed. "I have no problem with it for this test. So long as you don't damage the robot and return it to its location."
Toga saluted him before swapping places with the robot, returning it to its place. She then walked off the side as the next duo took the test.
Ochaco wipes the sweat from her brow as she joins Toga. "That's an incredible Quirk."
Toga grinned as she turned back into herself. "Thanks. Your Quirk is incredible, too."
Ochaco pulled at her clothes. "It's not very practical in things like this, though."
"I wouldn't say that. I'm sure Izuku could offer you tons of ways to use it- he's scarily smart-"
"I'm not letting you use my notes to impress a girl," Izuku scolded as Toga jumped.
"But Izu!"
Izuku sighed before glancing at Ochaco. "Besides, I doubt there is anything I can observe from a single class that she won't have already thought of or considered. No one knows their Quirks better than the user."
"Hey, don't make her feel bad. I'm sure your Quirk is practical. You helped me after all."
Ochaco smiled as Izuku huffed, hitting Toga with his notebook. "That's not what I meant. Stop jumping to conclusions. What I meant was she's already using it in a practical manner. While clothes might not make a huge difference, in a different scenario, doing exactly that is going to be the best solution. If she wasn't using it wisely, she would have made herself float or not used it at all. So why would I tell her the most practical use of her Quirk for a test like that when she's already doing it?"
Ochaco blinked before she smiled. "Thank you."
Izuku hummed before turning to Toga. "You, on the other hand, just made a dumb decision. Becoming Anri was a stupid idea."
"What?! I got there in less than half a second!"
"But if it were a villain fight, you would be instantly killed. Were you expecting to fight a villain as a six-year-old"?
"I would have transformed back."
"You can't transform back within five seconds of originally transforming. Four and a half seconds after, you would have been squashed."
Toga made a loud huff. "I'm not listening to you. Lalalalala."
Aizawa suddenly placed a hand on Toga's shoulder, making her jump. "You're disturbing the class. Shut up."
"Yes, sir!"
Katsuki laughed. "Deserved."
Toga gritted her teeth, about to launch at him, when Aizawa glared at her and Katsuki. "Bakugo, you're next."
~~~
The next test was a grip strength test. The class gaped in awe as one student, who looked like an octopus, completely outshone the rest.
Katsuki let out a scream as he tried to squeeze his whole Toga. She rolled her eyes. "So noisy."
"Says you," Izuku muttered as he stared at his result.
"That's impressive," Shoto stated as Izuku laughed.
"It's really not."
"It is. You've scored second-highest out of those who lack Quirks to aid in this test. I didn't realise you were so strong."
Izuku laughed again, scratching his forehead. "I guess I train more than the average."
Shoto seemed to be rewiring something in his mind, eying Izuku up before looking away.
Meanwhile, Toga hummed, looking over her vials of blood.
"Hurry up and pick one," Katsuki hissed as Toga huffed.
"Don't rush me. It's not like I've got one good for strength- or at least not one I'm allowed to use for something this trivial. Dad would def kill me if I used one of the actually powerful ones."
"You're just taking too long cause you know you can't beat me."
Toga stuck out her tongue childishly before choosing her vial. After a moment, she became Kazu.
"Kazu's a weakling," Katsuki laughed. "You're so doomed."
Toga huffed. "Kazu is a spider, Katsuki." She used all three arms on her right side to point at him disapprovingly. "Don't you know basic facts. Spiders can carry 20 times their weight." Toga began squeezing, but it had little improvement.
"That's ants, Toga," Izuku corrected as Toga gave up with a whine.
"Now you tell me."
Katsuki laughed at her as Shoto leaned into Izuku's side. "Didn't Toga still win?"
Izuku nodded. "Guess six hands made up for the lack of basic facts."
"Why is he acting like he won then?" Shoto pointed at Katsuki as Izuku hummed.
"Because he still lacks a basic education."
Shoto nodded, taking Izuku's answer at face value.
~~~
Shoto took a breath as he jumped. While in the air, fire burst out from his foot, throwing him further. He flew unsteadily before collapsing to the ground with a thud.
"You okay?" Izuku rushed over, offering out a hand.
Shoto glanced up at him, staring for just a moment before he blushed and sat up. "Yes. I guess I'm still not good at it."
"I had no idea you could fly," Izuku grinned as Shoto tapped his side.
"I am not good at it."
"Oh! Now I remember you. I knew you looked familiar," a boy with bright red hair pointed at Shoto. "You attacked that zero pointer. You were super mainly and cool. That superpowered punch that shattered the whole thing- so cool!"
Shoto blinked slowly as he stared at the other. "Oh, you're the one who got buried." Shoto glanced at the boy's hair before looking at him. "That's impressive hair dy-"
"Hey, man! What ya talking about?" The boy laughed awkwardly as Shoto grew more confused.
Izuku poked his head around. "You super pinched a robot?"
Shoto tensed for a moment before he answered slowly. "I can build up heat and release it to make a powerful impact."
"Whoa, I gotta write this down." Izuku pulled out his notebook as Shoto smiled softly.
"Mr Midoriya, it's your turn," Aizawa hissed after the last few failed attempts.
Izuku jumped, shoving his book into Shoto's hand. "Right. Sorry!"
Shoto held the book protectively as he started walking out the way.
"I'm Kirishima by the way," the boy, who was introduced as Shoto, hummed.
"Okay."
Shoto walked back to the group as Toga laughed, patting Kirishima's back. "Don't take it personally. Our little Shoto is pretty bad at social interactions."
"Like you're one to talk," Katsuki sneered as Toga huffed.
"I have a far better personality than you."
"Are you guys from the same school or something? You all seem super close," Ochaco questioned as Toga hummed.
"Not really. Izuku is my cousin, so we've known each other since forever. Katsuki is only with us cause his mum is cool."
"Hey!" Katsuki glared at Toga as she scoffed, turning from him.
"What, it's not like we like you for your personality. He's technically Izuku's god brother, so I guess he's family too."
Kirishima glanced past Toga at Shoto, who was giving Izuku the notebook back and trying to soothe him after the lacklustre score. "What about him? He is also a relative?"
"Shoto? Nah. He's not a relative. We just know he's family, but that was before they moved abroad. Why?"
Ochaco glanced between Izuku and Shoto. "They just seem close."
"Guess so. Izuku has always been fascinated by Quirks, and Shoto has a strong Quirk. Plus he's run out of stuff to analyse with Katsuki and me." Toga wandered off as she took her turn.
Kirishima and Ochaco both nodded before glancing at each other. As they locked eyes, they both realised they were not the only ones who thought that friendship probably wasn't about Quirks.
~~~
"I hate this," Ochaco gasped as she shuffled along the lines. Side-stepping sucked.
"Agreed," Toga huffed, though she was doing significantly better due to her higher training.
The whistle was blown as the students stopped. Izuku took a deep breath as he glanced around. "I don't think a single person did well in that."
"Not many Quirks would help in that kind of test," Toga declared as Katsuki huffed.
"I can't believe you didn't even try using your Quirk."
Toga huffed. "That would just be a waste of blood."
"Fucking vampire."
Aizawa called the class's attention to him before he restarted the ball throw.
Toga grinned as she collapsed on the floor. "Great, a chance for a break."
"You shouldn't be relaxing," Katsuki hissed as Toga stuck out her tongue.
"I've already done this test. I get to relax."
"You're annoying."
"You're a brat."
"Will you stop talking?" Aizawa hissed as they fell silent for about ten seconds.
Chapter 6: Questions
Chapter Text
Ochaco sat on the floor as she pretended to watch the students throw the ball. She glanced at Toga a couple of times, refusing to let her eyes linger long.
"You can ask. I'm not exactly hiding things, especially not to you," Toga laughed with a wink as Ochaco blushed.
"What? I wasn't going to ask anything?"
"It's okay. I don't mind being questioned. I'm not Katsuki." Toga ignored Katsuki's insulted glare, keeping her gaze loosely held on the clouds above her.
"Well, I was just wandering. What is your Quirk- not that you have to tell me! I don't mean to pry, and you probably don't like talking about it-" Toga laughed, sitting up straighter.
"You're really cute when you're flustered." Ochaco blushed more as Toga sighed. "I have the ability to take on the physical body of others by ingesting their blood. The amount of blood I drink correlates to how long I can hold onto a form, though other factors can make a difference, such as how greatly their body differs from mine. For example, becoming someone like Izuku isn't too difficult, as our heights and builds are fairly similar. But if I become one of my younger siblings who have a much smaller body mass, it can be pretty taxing on my body, and similarly, becoming someone much bigger than me can be super difficult too, so I can't hold onto those forms for long."
"Especially as your dad has you on blood rations," Katsuki chuckled as Toga sent him a glare.
"Your Quirk is incredible. You can use any Quirk you want, and you could get into any area," Ochaco announced as Toga chuckled.
"It's not quite that good. Firstly, there is a huge problem with taking people's blood without permission, so it's highly likely that when I become a hero, I am legally forbidden from taking a villain's blood, regardless of what I want to do with it. Not to mention, I can only use very specific Quirks that only activate under specific circumstances, so it's not like I could turn into someone like All Might and gain all his power and abilities."
"Thank fucking god," Katsuki muttered as Izuku nodded.
"She would be a terrorist if she could."
"Hey! I can hear you," Toga shouted as the boys glanced at each other.
"We know. That was the point."
Before Toga could get up to fight them, Ochaco hummed. "How come things are so specific on which Quirks you can use?"
Toga blushed a little. "I'd prefer not to explain that." She could hear Izuku chuckling a little as Katsuki laughed smugly. They both knew that info and knew how embarrassed Toga got every time it was brought up. "Besides, even if I could, it wouldn't be a particularly useful skill to have."
"Really?"
Toga nodded. "Firstly, trying to use a Quirk for the first time is always a chaotic mess. Most four-year-olds don't have experience with their own powers, even at a low level. As they grow up, they gain both theoretical and practical knowledge around their Quirk that lets them understand how to use it even as it grows more powerful. If I were to attempt to use a stranger's ability with no understanding or training on how it works, I'd probably just end up destroying whatever I'm trying to protect. I would also likely do my body a lot of harm, as while my transformed body typically can handle whatever Quirk it has, if I don't understand the limits that body has, I can quickly overdo it and harm my actual body instead."
"I didn't think about that," Ochaco muttered as Toga chuckled.
"Not many people do. Lots of idiots will go on about how they want a powerful Quirk without actually understanding how much work needs to go into making that Quirk just manageable. Plus, most people don't train their Quirks or bodies. This means if I did take a stranger's Quirk, their body probably wouldn't be up for the level of Quirk usage I would need it to be. Think of it like I'm the fire, and the body I use is the kettle. I can increase the heat, but if the kettle ends up melting, there isn't much point."
"What a disturbing metaphor."
Toga laughed, scratching her head. "It's even worse if the Quirk is from a younger user. People often discover new things about their Quirk as they get older. Both how knowledge of their Quirk works on a fundamental level and all the ways it can be used can change wildly as someone gets older, as our scientific knowledge proves. And without a reason to continuously use and improve their Quirk, they usually lack basic concepts in how their Quirk functions or what they need to train their body on to withstand it. Which all makes things more difficult for me as it greatly restricts what I can do in their form."
Toga grinned, pointing forward as Katsuki walked to the circle. "Watch, this is about to demonstrate exactly what I'm talking about. I turned into Katsuki to do the ball-throw. I copied his exact physique and Quirk. Even with my theoretical knowledge, I could not make the ball go further than it did. And even though Katsuki also wants to beat me and has his own knowledge, he will get the exact same score as me."
Katsuki let out a scream as the ball was thrown in the air with a series of explosions. After a moment, it came down, landing the exact same distance away as Toga's earlier throw. Katsuki was not pleased.
"If I had known this was going to be a competition, I probably would have tried using someone else, as I can't beat Katsuki as him, not on a test like this, which is simply testing our physical limits."
Ochaco nodded before a loud bang interrupted all the conversations. The ball flew through the sky as Shoto stood straighter.
"Oh damn, guess that's what killed the zero-pointer," Toga laughed as Katsuki scowled.
"What the hell, Icy-hot! Since when could you do stuff like that?!"
"Sit down, Katsuki. Stop shouting," Izuku scolded, pushing Katsuki back and stopping him from charging at Shoto.
Shoto simply walked away from the circle calmly until he felt a twinge in his arm. He stopped, staring at it as Izuku came over.
"Is something wrong?"
"That hurt more than I thought it would."
Izuku hummed, taking Shoto's hand and arm as he looked over it. "It was a powerful blast. The recoil on that would be devastating for most people. You're lucky none of your bones broke."
Shoto did not respond, his cheeks growing hot as he tried and failed to form a word or even just a sound.
"He's going to kill him," Ochaco muttered as Kirishima nodded.
"Poor dude."
"Great, now I have two gay idiots at the dinner table," Katsuki hissed.
Kirishima paused. "Shouldn't that be three? Toga?"
"Nah. She's way past idiot. She's very deep into disaster territory. Plus, if I had it my way, she'd be eating outside. She's basically an animal anyway-" Toga punched him as he screamed. "Hey! This is what we're talking about." He immediately tried to retaliate as they began fighting.
"Enough! If you two can't stop fighting, I will expel you both now," Aizawa shouted as they both paled.
"Yes, sir."
~~~
Toga did not like running. She liked it even less when Aizawa specifically told her she couldn't teleport. It wasn't like she had someone with a Quirk that could help with running, and trying to hold onto a form would only make things worse.
"I'm dead," she announced as she crossed the finish line. Izuku had already passed it, giving her a look. "Considering you still placed top 10, you shouldn't look so downtrodden."
"Considering you're one test from being expelled, why are you lecturing me?" Toga pushed herself up as Izuku gave her an annoyed look.
"If you truly believe this class could beat me just because they can use Quirks, then you haven't paid attention at all."
Toga paused for a moment. "Wait… Who told you that?!" Toga grabbed Izuku's shoulders, shaking him. "Is someone insulting you? Who was it? I'll kill them? Tell me. Tell me. Tell me, tell me, tell me."
"Let go, Toga. I'm not for shaking." Toga stopped moving Izuku as he huffed. "Besides, I don't need you to defend me. We both got into the same school." Izuku slapped Toga's hands away as she let out a wounded sound.
“But Izuku. You're too nice to deal with bullies. You always just end up helping them rather than hurting them."
"I don't think you should be hurting people," Shoto interrupted as Katsuki scoffed.
"What about your dad? He was a bully?"
Shoto suddenly went completely serious. "Then we kill him."
Katsuki laughed. "Nice."
~~~
Katsuki's eye twitched as he waited for Toga. For some insane reason, Aizawa had paired them to do the sitting toe touch, and Toga was taking forever. "Seriously, Toga? You don't have anyone who is flexible, just do the test."
Toga huffed. "Joke's on you, I know exactly who I'm choosing." Toga took the drop of blood before turning into Yume. She focused her attention on her hand before it turned to water. With a grin, she reached across and grabbed her feet.
"That cannot be legal."
Toga scoffed. "I'm touching my toes. He didn't say I had to be flesh and blood when I do it, but I knew you would cause a fuss, so I have a backup." Toga's hands became hands again as she leaned over. She focused on her core, turning it into water and letting her practically flop in half. "Oh wow, now I can reach further than my toes."
Katsuki gritted his teeth as he wrote down the result. "You lost distance cause of Yume's age."
Toga laughed, becoming herself. "And yet I surpassed you by aeons."
"And Izuku beat you both," Shoto interrupted as Toga and Katsuki rolled their eyes.
"He's just freaky like that," Toga scoffed. "I swear, half the time I don't think he genuinely has any bones."
Shoto blinked in surprise, turning to Izuku. "Is that true?"
Izuku paused before he chuckled a little. "No. I have bones."
~~~
The last of the tests was doing sit-ups. Considering all the others, it felt very anti-climactic. Absolutely no one, even Toga, had a Quirk that could help with this one, meaning it was a pure test of physical ability and thus the top four solidly landed on the only four people who thought about going to the gym before attending hero school.
Katsuki grinned as he finished. "I knew I'd beat you."
Toga scowled. "By one. My body betrayed me."
"We both did more than they did, didn't we?" Shoto muttered as Izuku nodded.
"Best not tell them that. I'm more impressed by you." Izuku turned to the only other person who had kept going even half as long as the other four. She was almost completely pink with black eyes. "I didn't think you looked like the type who's done a lot of physical training like this. I'll have to amend my notes."
The girl grinned. "I'm a dancer, so core stuff like this is a must. I wouldn't be able to do half the stuff I could without it."
Izuku made a small sound. "That makes sense. Dancing is a great way to build up fundamentals for hero work, especially for people not interested in brawls."
"Lady Nagant tell you that?" Shoto questioned as Izuku shook his head.
"Risako. She keeps trying to take Toga to a dance class, but Toga keeps breaking out."
"Like a rabid dog," Shoto summed as Izuku laughed.
"Well, she definitely bites the instructors like one."
The girl decided she wasn't in a hurry to befriend Toga.
Chapter 7: Expulsion
Chapter Text
Aizawa called the students back together as he looked over each one. Toga and Katsuki both leaned in closely as the screen popped up. Toga cheered. "First place, baby! Suck on that, Kachan."
Katsuki screamed, barely noticing he was in fourth place with Toga's taunts.
"I will still expel you," Aizawa threatened, silencing Toga once more.
Between her and Katsuki was Shoto and a girl named Momo Yaoyorozu. Kirishima scraped the top ten in the class, and Ochaco found herself just below. Izuku smiled with pride at his 8th place claim, even beating a couple of students who had found exploits to use their Quirks within the test.
At the very bottom was an unfortunate girl with an invisibility Quirk. She collapsed to the ground, sniffling. "It's over. I can't believe it's already over. I was going to show my parents how far I could go. And now it's over."
The entire class felt bad for her.
"This feels rough," a blond kid with a black electric mark in his hair muttered as a guy with odd elbows nodded.
"Not exactly her fault, she doesn't have a physical Quirk."
A girl with earphones in her earlobes twisted the cord. "I feel sort of bad. Even if she had trained her body to get a higher rank, I doubt it would do much for her career prospects, as I doubt she's planning on going into street brawls."
Toga leaned onto Izuku's shoulder. "Are you going to say anything?"
"No."
"Really?! But aren't you the moral one? You can't think this is right?"
Izuku gave Toga a look. "You should really learn to research before making a decision. Mr Aizawa has the highest track record when it comes to expelling students. I think they're expecting it to reach 500 by the end of the year."
Toga gasped in horror, backing away. "Seriously? He really could expel us just like that."
Izuku shook his head. "He hasn't been teaching here for 25 years, Toga."
"What does that have to do with anything?" Toga collapsed to the ground. "There's no way I don't piss him off by the end of the year. I'm going to be expelled."
Aizawa cleared his throat as the class turned back to him. "As for the expulsion of the last student," he paused as he watched all the students tense, "that was a logical ruse."
"What?!"
Aizawa attempted to explain how it was supposed to make them work harder, but he was talked over by the wave of relief and mutterings from students.
"Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you! I promise you, Mr Aizawa, I'll train super hard so next time I'm not at the bottom. You won't regret this," the invisible girl ranted before the pink one from before hopped over.
"This is great. Now you getta stay."
"I can't believe I didn't see this coming," one girl muttered before she turned to Izuku and Toga.
"Why did you do that? That was so mean!" She shook Izuku, who didn't bother fighting her.
"I didn't say anything that was untrue."
"Excuse me," the girl interrupted, making Toga stop her assault on Izuku, "you knew that expulsion threat wasn't true, am I right?" Shoto and Katsuki both turned their attention to the conversation, though Katsuki watched Izuku and Toga while Shoto began staring at the girl.
Izuku pushed Toga back. "Yeah. I figured as much."
"May I know how?"
Izuku shrugged. "I did my research. Aizawa has the highest expulsion record in UA history."
"Wouldn't that legitimise the threat?"
"Nah. He's expelled more students in his time here than he's had students. I don't know if he's ever truly expelled someone, but since he's expelled more than 5 times the number of students he's actually taught, he typically reenrolls them. Or at least that's my theory."
"Oh, right. I was unaware you could get access to these sorts of documents. Is the expulsion rate a public record?"
Katsuki and Toga both tensed, suddenly grabbing Izuku and hissing at him. "Please don't tell us you did something stupid like hack into UA's database!"
"I didn't hack UA." Izuku pushed them both off. "UA is a high-grade educational institute. As a result, all teaching records are public to let the students better decide which school fits them the most. Though, seeing as that user interface hasn't been touched in decades, something tells me no one uses it."
The girl made a small, excited sound. "This seems fascinating. I will have to do more research into it when I return."
"Oh, I remember you," Shoto announced as he finally stopped staring. "You were the one who raided the Black Thorn Library during the winter ball. They thought a thief had gotten in and was trying to assist someone through the bookshelves, so they had to lock down the entire mansion before you were found surrounded by books."
The girl gasped as she stepped back. "Oh, I don't remember that."
"Really? I remember your dad saying something like 'This is the 10th time this has happened, Momo. You need to tell us when you're running off'."
The girl, Momo, made a mortified sound. "I can't believe my luck to end up in school with someone who remembers that." She shook her head, raising it higher. "I can reassure you, I have matured since then, and I will do my utmost best to be a valuable member of this class and school." She paused before looking at Shoto. "Though, may I ask, who are you? I can't seem to recall anyone with your appearance."
Shoto shrugged. "I'm Himura Shoto. I doubt you would remember me. I didn't like the parties, so I mostly avoided talking to people or got my siblings to take my space."
"Himura?" Momo paused. "Oh, yes, I remember your family. Your mother is the CEO of the Rindou corporation."
"Rindou corporation?" Toga tilted her head as Katsuki and Izuku both shot her a dirty look.
"Don't you ever listen to people?"
"Nope."
Izuku sighed, shaking his head. "The Rindou Corporation is an International Aid Organisation that focuses on helping people with domestic abuse. They assist in legal fees for divorces and supply prosecutors to ensure abusers are punished. They also train and certify judges who rightfully convict abusers while barring judges who let serial abuses off free or will wrongful punish victims of either abuse or false allegations. Her team has also assisted in changing the law in many parts of the world to prevent Quirk marriages."
"Damn, your mum is impressive," Toga muttered as Momo nodded.
"My family is a strong supporter of the Rindou Corporation. We've been donating to the cause and have supplied the company with properties that are currently being used as safe houses for victims with no family to protect them. My father is particularly impressed by the corporation's support of both male victims and LGBTQ victims who can find it even more difficult to be believed or supported."
Shoto stepped back. "It feels like I'm at one of those balls again."
Toga laughed. "Don't I know the feeling. All those stuffy business folk all talk the same. And it's like, we know what our family does, that's why we're here. Why are you telling us info we already know?"
Katsuki rolled his eyes. "Except you don't go to those events after the honeybee incident."
Toga gaped, glaring at Katsuki when Izuku also spoke. "And you just admitted you had no idea what the Rindou Corporation was."
"Both of you shut up!" Toga took a swing at them, but it didn't land.
Momo watched Toga carefully. "I don't believe I know you either."
Toga didn't hear her, too busy fighting with the other. Shoto decided to answer for her. "She's the daughter of Deku."
Momo blinked. "She is?!" She looked back at Toga in a mix of horror and confusion.
"She's not very sophisticated. I believe most of the time, Deku takes either his oldest son, Tenko, or his oldest daughter, Hana, to events, so it's unlikely you've met."
"Quite." Momo paused, narrowing her eyes. "Are you sure she's the daughter of Deku?"
Shoto nodded. "Unfortunately."
"Mr Midoriya," Aizawa called, making Toga and the boys go still. "I would like a word."
Izuku glanced at the other two before nodding. "Okay." He started following Aizawa as Ochaco hummed.
"I thought if any of you were going to get in trouble, it would be," she paused, looking between Toga and Katsuki, "well, it wouldn't be him."
"Think this is about his Quirk?" Shoto asked as Toga scowled.
"It better not be."
Katsuki paused. "I would assume that of all heroes, that guy is the least likely to make a thing of it. If he does, it doesn't spell well for the rest of them."
Kirishima and Ochaco shared a confused look. "Why?"
"Mr Aizawa's Quirk is Erasure," Katsuki answered, "he stops people from using their Quirks, then fights them on pure technique, skill and muscle."
"Right, what does that have to do with Izuku's Quirk?" Ochaco asked.
Toga and Katsuki shared a look. Before Shoto could answer, Toga jabbed him. "That's Izuku's story. We should let him decide when and if he wants to say anything."
~~~
Izuku followed behind Aizawa. Every few steps, he would mentally tell himself to hold his head high. He did nothing wrong. He would hold his head high for a couple more steps before his head would start to droop again. "Did I do something?"
Aizawa glanced back. "It's best we talk in a private room."
That, in almost every instance, meant yes. Izuku continued to follow him into the classroom they had been in at the start of the day. Aizawa sighed as he picked up the tablet he had left himself. "I read through your file prior to your first day here."
"I expected so," Izuku answered, reminding himself to raise his head. "Is there a problem in my file?"
"No. You are Quirkless, though."
"Is that a problem?"
Aizawa raised an eyebrow. "You are getting defensive."
"I am not going to let you dictate my education based on my Quirk rather than my abilities."
Aizawa watched Izuku before putting the tablet down. "I have no plans to do so. I do not care for heroes that rely purely on their Quirks, but that does not mean Quirks do not have a significant impact on the scope of your studies. Without a Quirk, you will struggle against your classmates. They will excel in ways you cannot even comprehend."
Izuku grinned. "So? They will also fail in ways I can't even imagine. Just because they have minor abilities doesn't change the fact that in the end, all that matters is who is left standing."
Aizawa almost smiled. "Very well. You're dismissed."
"Is that really all?"
"Yes. I called you here to ensure you were going to put in the work to make up for the difference between you and the rest of the world. It appears this was an unnecessary appointment."
Izuku sighed in relief as he turned and left the room. By the time he got to the changing room, the rest had already left. "Most have missed them on the way." Izuku got changed quickly before heading to the gate.
He heard his friends before he saw them. Toga and Katsuki were shouting, growling and tackling each other. Shoto and Ochaco both watched without getting involved while Kirishima was trying to break them up.
"What's gotten under them this time?" Izuku glanced at Shoto and Ochaco as he joined them.
"Honestly, I have no clue. I think they're arguing about biscuits," Ochaco tried to answer as Izuku hummed.
"Ah, the great biscuit debate. A battle as old as time."
"What did Mr Aizawa want?" Shoto frowned in worry as Izuku smiled fondly.
"Yes. I think he was worried about me giving up. He was just warning me that things would be tough, like I didn't already know that. Bit of a pointless conversation." Izuku turned before he grinned. "Toga, Katsuki, time to head home. If you don't get a move on, I'll call Uncle Deku to come pick you up in front of the whole school."
Toga and Katsuki both instantly detached and began walking.
"So predictable."
Ochaco suddenly jumped forward. "Wait, Toga, mind if I walk with you?"
Toga blinked a little. "Really? I thought Katsuki and I would have scared you off by now?"
Ochaco blushed a little. "I'm not that easy to intimidate. Besides, I like talking to you."
Toga grinned before she wrapped an arm around Ochaco. "Then you're definitely welcome! How could I say no to someone as cute as you?" Ochaco blushed more.
Katsuki scoffed. "If you keep flirting with her, you'll scare her off that way."
Izuku rolled his eyes. "They're so loud." He took a couple of steps before stopping, glancing at Kirishima. "Want to walk with us? I swear they can talk normally."
Kirishima chuckled a little as he started walking. "It feels like I'm a bit of an outsider. You're all so close."
Izuku gave Katsuki and Toga a look. They were already squabbling again. "You think that's close? You need to get yourself better friends."
Kirishima laughed. "Maybe, but it's clear you're all super close. If they really couldn't stand each other, they wouldn't talk to the other."
Izuku shrugged. "Well, I don't get them. They're both psychos."
"Guess it's cause they're family," Kirishima joked as Izuku shook his head.
"He's honorary family. I'm sure we could kick him out if it'll calm Toga down."
"Hey! I heard that Izuku!" Katsuki turned, about to attack Izuku, when he dodged and weaved away.
"It's not my fault you have personality issues!"
"Izuku!" Katsuki started chasing after Izuku as he dashed away.
Kirishima watched them run. "I'm starting to think they all have personality issues."
Shoto nodded. "It's a bit strange considering no one in their family outside those three acts like that."
"How far will they run?"
"Probably back to the house," Toga answered. "Wanna run after them or just catch the train and beat them home anyway?"
Shoto thought. "I'd prefer the train."
"Train it is." Toga began walking once more as Ochaco and Kirishima shared a disbelieving look. They both might regret their choice of friends in the near future.
Chapter 8: Eavesdropping
Chapter Text
Toga let out a frustrated sound as she slammed her head onto the table. "This is boring. I wanna bite something." She paused. "Izuku~ Can I bite you?"
Izuku didn't take his eyes off his notebook. "Not at school."
Toga let out a whine, curling up. Katsuki tutted. "How can you be struggling? I thought you were raised multi-lingual."
Toga gave Katsuki a glare. "That's the problem. English is easy." She paused. "Why did you phrase that like you also weren't raised that way. You squatted in our home!"
"We don't squat," Katsuki screamed as Toga scoffed.
"Yeah, that's why your legs are so weak."
Katsuki let out a scream, launching at Toga when Izuku jumped up, grabbing him by the collar of his shirt and keeping him away from Toga. "Let me go, Izuku! I'm gonna beat her ass."
"You wish you could beat me!"
Izuku tried to say something when the two dissolved into screaming nonsense. Izuku took a deep breath before hitting Katsuki and Tog on the top of their heads. "Katsuki, calm down. Toga, stop winding him up," Izuku ordered, crossing his arms. "Now, back to your seats."
"She fucking started it," Katsuki grumbled, dragging himself to his desk.
Toga huffed, leaning against her hand. "I'm still bored."
"Not my problem, and stop making it everyone else's," Izuku scolded as Toga tutted.
"You're just like my dad."
Izuku raised his head. "I'm taking that as a compliment."
Momo leaned over her desk to Shoto. "Are you sure she's Deku's daughter?"
Shoto nodded. "If it makes you feel better, she's adopted."
It did not.
Toga huffed, slowly growing bored again and hitting her head on the table. "Is it me, or is this teacher later than normal?"
Ochaco huffed, looking at the clock. "We have been left alone for almost 10 minutes. I wonder where they are?"
In front of her, a blue-haired boy stood up. "I will go look; the rest of you should remain in your seats."
"Who the hell elected you?" Katsuki snarled, but the boy ignored him.
He walked to the door, opening it only to freeze. In front of him, All Might and Deku both stood. Deku was smiling politely with his arms crossed while All Might was glaring at him.
If he had been anyone else, he might have freaked out or stumbled. But this kid did not respond that way. Instead, he bowed at a perfect right angle and slammed the door closed. "I'm sorry for interrupting!"
The shout caught more attention than any of Toga or Ochaco's comments. An entirely pink girl jumped up in excitement. "Who's out there?"
The robo-boy couldn't really find his words.
Toga grinned, running to the door with Ochaco, the pink girl and the floating uniform she guessed was the girl who almost got expelled. They leaned against it as the robo-boy cleared his throat.
"You can't do this. We should respect the teacher's privacy," he shouted as the pink one shushed him.
"Quiet. We can't hear you talking."
"But-"
Toga held up a hand. "I'll respect their privacy when they respect my time."
"And when they don't have conversations in public corridors," the invisible girl added as Ochaco paused.
"This is private property."
Toga shushed her dramatically, trying to lean into the door again. They still couldn't hear anything. Toga huffed. "Stupid high-quality doors." She suddenly grinned, running back to her desk. She reached under before pausing. "Who took my bag?"
"You're not using your blood for this," Izuku announced as Katsuki laughed.
Toga was about to say something when Shoto spoke up. "Why don't we just ask her what they're saying?" He pointed to a girl with earphone jacks coming out of her earlobes. The entire class turned to her as she froze. "Her whole thing is hearing and sound."
Suddenly, Toga, Ochaco, the pink one and the invisible one were all gathered around her desk, begging her to tell them what's happening. "I'm not sure about this." The girl pulled at her earphone jacks, playing with them nervously. "I don't like listening in on private conversations."
"But come on. They're wasting our time; we may as well know why," Toga begged, but the girl was still unsure.
"That's enough," Momo shouted, standing behind the hearing girl. "If Jiro does not wish to use her Quirk or get involved in this in any way, we cannot force her. We are here to be heroes, and that involves saying no to pressure."
Toga huffed. "Damn it, I can never argue with a pretty girl." Ochaco gave her a look as Toga blushed. "And I said that out loud."
The pink one and the invisible one snickered, suddenly becoming more interested in Toga's gay disaster than the teachers.
The girl with earphone jacks, Jiro, fidgeted more, shifting her gaze between Momo and the table. "Thank you for that. How come you know my name?"
Momo smiled. "I learnt the names of everyone I wanted to talk to."
Jiro pulled a small face, almost blinded by the pure light in front of her. Her heart stopped at the smile. Yep. This is how she was going to die.
Before she could die, the door was slammed open once more. All Might slid through dramatically. "I'm coming through the door like a normal person!"
The whole class erupted in screams. Well, the whole class but Toga, Izuku and Katsuki. They didn't react at all. Deku sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "That is not normal at all."
The class erupted in more noise, and Toga, Izuku and Katsuki managed to react even less. All Might struggled to gain control of the classroom as people gushed.
"I can't believe that's All Might and Deku!"
"All Might's in his Golden Age uniform. It's the coolest!"
"Have these two ever actually been together before? I can't remember any time I've even seen them at the same event outside Hero Ranking."
"Can you blame them? They must be big rivals!"
"I bet it's something more scandalous." The pink one received a disgusted look from Toga as she blinked. "What? You're gay. Why can't they be gay?"
Toga made a more disgusted face, but didn't get a chance to explain herself when Deku made a loud whistle that echoed over the voices and silenced the room. Deku grinned, putting a hand on his hip. "Well, I love the enthusiasm, but we gotta calm down so the class can begin. Everyone in seats."
The students slowly moved back to their places. All but Toga, who was still giving the pink one a disgusted look.
"Toga, back to your seat."
Toga finally snapped out of her disgust, coughing. "Right, sorry." She skipped over, sliding behind her desk.
The pink one gave Toga a side-eye, wondering why she had such a problem with her comment. She blinked as she saw the other students moving. "Shit." She jumped up, following the others to the wall before tapping the invisible girl's shoulder. "Hey, what's happening? I may have… not listened at all."
The other girl laughed. "Oh, I cannot blame you. We've got the top two heroes teaching us!" The pink one could hear the other smiling. "We're picking up our hero costume and then reconvening."
"Oh! So cool! I can't wait to see everyone." The other girl bounced in the air energetically. Guess when someone is invisible, they have to exaggerate all their movements. Most likely to be hard with zero facial cues. "I'm Mina, by the way. Mina Ashido, but just call me Mina."
"I'm Hagakure, but you can call me Toru."
Mina grinned, and for a moment, she wondered if Toru grinned back.
Chapter 9: Heroics 101
Chapter Text
All Might paced back and forth in Nezu's office. The mouse-rat-bear amalgamation that was UA's principal remained silent, sipping at his tea as he waited for All Might to talk.
"You can't be serious."
"I am very serious."
"But he's a villain."
"There is no evidence of that."
"He knows AFO."
"As do you."
"He's raising an army of villains."
Nezu gave All Might a look. "That 'army' only has three adult members, one of which is a hero sidekick-"
"He's pretending-"
"One is in art school-"
"So that makes him not a villain-"
"And the other is becoming a doctor-"
"So she can experiment on people-"
"She is specialising in emergency care and last year was in the national science journal for a new treatment of 1st degree burns." All Might didn't respond to that one. "Listen, All Might, I understand your concerns, but my decision is final. Deku will be teaching here."
All Might straightened up. "What subject? We don't have a new opening."
Nezu grinned at that. "Heroics 101."
All Might coughed, splattering blood in the air. "Are you firing me?!"
"Of course not. But you've never taught before."
"Neither has Deku!"
"But he has raised and trained kids, as you so often point out. He has more experience."
"But both of us can't be training the same class. It won't work."
"Of course not. You're too unprofessional to do your job as instructed. You will both only be teaching the same classes for the first week. After that, you will take turns."
"But why?"
"Because I can't have the number 1 and number 2 hero stuck at school while villains are running wild. Never again." Nezu shook his head. "You will be given a schedule of when to be at school and when you are patrolling."
"But we patrol outside school hours anyway."
"And the villains will realise they won't have you or Deku patrolling during school hours. I will not allow that."
All Might fumbled. "But he might try indoctrinating the kids when I'm not there."
If Nezu had an eyebrow, he would raise it. "I can monitor him when he is teaching without you, and if it makes you feel better, Deku will be working in the same office that the rest of the teachers do. No student will be able to talk to him alone."
"But Nezu-"
"My decision is final. I will not turn down the benefits of having Deku here; you will have to save your feelings. Until I find evidence of any wrongdoing or you bring me actual evidence, he will work here. Please tell me you can work professionally."
All Might sighed in defeat. "Fine. But I will be watching him."
Nezu hummed as he slipped his tea. At the very least, this was going to be very entertaining.
~~~
All Might glanced at Deku as they waited in the training area.
Deku hummed a tune to himself as he wrote things down on his tablet.
"Do you mind?" All Might hissed as Deku paused and smiled.
"Is something wrong?"
"You shouldn't sing on the job."
Deku chuckled. "Sure thing." He continued humming to himself.
"You're still singing."
Deku grinned more. "I'm humming. I'm surprised a 50-year-old man doesn't know the difference."
Oh, All Might wanted to punch him.
"The students are here," Deku announced as All Might straightened his back, making a point to be taller than Deku.
Deku was hit with a wave of nostalgia. Everyone looked exactly how he remembered them: Stupid. He forgot how dumb so many of these costumes were in the first class.
The only thing he was glad about was that Shoto wasn't a living popsicle, and he didn't have to see his old design.
Deku ignored most of the new costumes, instead looking over Katsuki, Shoto, Izuku and Toga. For the most part, Katsuki and Shoto were exactly the same, just Katsuki was missing his hairpieces, and Shoto was defrosted. Izuku, on the other hand, was completely different.
Deku would have been offended, but he understood. Izuku had the highest pressure from the media to be the next Deku. The irony of that expectation was not lost on him, but unfortunately, he could not explain that to his younger self.
Izuku was using a mix of red and black to make up the colour palette. It had a large puffy jacket, which disguised most of Izuku's form. Similarly, his trousers flared out, completely changing his normal silhouette. It was easy to think it was just a fashion piece with only the tactical belt as practical, but something told Deku there was more to the suit than meets the eye.
He was also 100% sure Izuku asked Mitsuki and Masura for help cause neither of them had any fashion sense. Was this even considered fashionable? Was this just as dumb?
Last was Toga.
Toga was dressed in a mix of white and green. She had a green tight tank under a white sleeve jumper that was cut above the chest. There was a large hood and a pair of gloves with a pattern on the back that Deku couldn't get a good look at.
She had white knee-high socks with green boots and a white mini-skirt and green belt. He could see needles ready for use and a tube system to store the blood. He guessed she would have her emergency blood on her arm as usual, but he couldn't see it under the sleeve. Deku would have to talk to Nezu about her permissions regarding using the needles, and he was going to have to talk to Toga about that skirt length.
But more concerning was her mask, which had white panels running along it. It looked hauntingly similar to Toga's villain mask. Not that he could tell her that.
Deku blinked as the class began screaming questions. Oh, right, teaching. He watched All Might fumble and dart back to flick through his little book. Deku tried so hard to not judge him. He gets better. He gets better.
Deku stepped forward, grinning at the students. "We will be selecting teams through a random draw. When teams are decided, your role and opponents will be decided through another random draw. You'll be given only a short period of time to make a plan before the training begins. The rest of us will be watching from an observation deck. All Might and I will have access to your coms to send and receive messages, but the rest of the class and your opponents will not.
As this is a fighting exercise, you are allowed to injure your opponent; however, any permanent injury, risk to life or excessive force will be penalised and, if severe enough, can result in punishment. While we have no intent to expel anyone, if you do hurt someone severely enough, we will not be able to look the other way. As a result, I want you all to remember both your own abilities and think about the abilities of your opponent."
Deku paused before shooting a look at Katsuki and Toga. "Especially you two. While your support gear can be used, don't put anyone's lives at risk."
Toga and Katsuki both shared a look and actually seemed to consider it for a moment. "Fine," Toga muttered as Katsuki crossed his arms.
"It's not my fault these people are extras."
Deku sighed. Yeah, those two were definitely going to find an excuse to use that tech.
All Might cleared his throat, standing back at the front. "Let's pick our teams!" He gave Deku a look as Deku gave him a look back. If he didn't want him helping, he shouldn't fumble.
Deku watched as All Might drew the names. Deku couldn't remember much about the training exercise outside his team, and about half the fight- he blames Lord Explosion Murder. He may say that head injury did nothing, but it did something. So Deku couldn't remember if the teams were the same, but something felt familiar about all the pairings, and Izuku and Katsuki were still teamed with the same people.
Shoto was teamed up with Shoji, and Toga was with Momo.
It was both a surprise and completely not a surprise when All Might drew Izuku's team and Katsuki's team as the first pairing. Before Katsuki and Iida could enter the building, Deku put a hand on Katsuki's shoulder. "I was serious, Katsuki. Your Quirk and gear are impressive, but it would be a real shame if you ended up in jail for murder because you forgot how impressive you are."
Katsuki tutted, slapping Deku's hand off. "I know. I'm not gonna hurt anyone. I'm just going to win this thing."
That only served to solidify Deku's belief. Katsuki was going to destroy that building.
Iida looked between Deku and Katsuki, speeding up to match Katsuki's walk. "What is he talking about?"
Katsuki scoffed. "Don't worry about it. I know what I'm doing."
That was not comforting for Iida either.
On the other side, Ochaco shifted. All Might stopped mid-lecture to stare at Deku and Katsuki. "All Might… sir. Is everything okay?"
All Might shook his head. "Yes. Good luck in there." All Might began following Deku and the other students as Ochaco opened and closed her mouth.
"He didn't finish."
Izuku chuckled. "Yeah. He didn't." Izuku began stretching as Ochaco gave him a look.
"You seem calm."
"I am."
She shifted her gaze. "Does that mean you have a plan?"
Izuku grinned. It was almost a creepy grin. He hopped up as he pulled back his sleeve slightly. He pressed a button as a screen was projected before them. He pressed the search bar and put in 'Tenya Iida'. Immediately, a file popped up, filled with information.
Ochaco sent Izuku a nervous look. "Where did you get this information from?"
Izuku gave her a look. "Mostly from the apprehension test. Some came from public files."
"And the rest?"
Izuku paused. "I did nothing illegal."
"That is not the proper response!"
Chapter 10: Strategy
Chapter Text
Iida looked around the weapon. “This will be hard to hide. We should come up with a plan to ensure our success.”
Katsuki scoffed. “Do what you want. I’m going to handle Izuku.”
Iida slid in Katsuki’s way before he could leave the room. “Hold! I understand family rivalries, but just attacking will not secure us the win.”
Katsuki scoffed again. “Listen, four-eyes-”
“It’s Iida-”
“Don’t care. Izuku is the only threat on that team. I know from Toga that pink-cheeks has no martial arts training and barely any with her Quirk. She’s inexperienced and doubts herself. That means she’s going to follow whatever plan Izuku cooks up without adding. She’ll be extremely easy to deal with. Just remove all items from the room and don’t let her touch you.”
Iida opened and closed his mouth, but couldn’t say anything before Katsuki moved on.
“Izuku, on the other hand, is a problem. Not only does he have martial arts training, but his specific training is also a nightmare for me.”
“Your family didn’t all undergo the same training?”
Katsuki raised an eyebrow. “Obviously not. While Izuku, Toga and I all did the same martial arts training and first aid training,” Iida opened his mouth- “don’t fucking say anything-” Iida closed his mouth- “the remainder of our training was tailored to the heroes we want to be and us. We’re not carbon copies of each other.”
Iida nodded. “That makes sense.”
“Of course it does. We’re not morons.”
“So what about Midoriya’s training is so problematic for you?”
Katsuki thought for a second. “Listen, I’m trained to be up high, move fast and move on. Speed and accuracy were everything I have worked on.”
Iida paused, thinking. “You were trained on circus tricks?”
Katsuki held up a hand in offence. “It’s called acrobatics, and it’s not the point. Toga’s name of the game is stealth, sneak attacks and spycraft. All her training focused on misdirection, overcover and how to disarm people. We’re usually pretty even.”
Iida nodded as Katsuki took a deep breath.
“But fucking Izuku isn’t like that! Izuku doesn’t do quick battles. His whole thing is endurance. You try fighting him, thinking you can end it in 10 seconds, but you could still be fighting an hour later. Izuku’s whole thing is about efficiency, dodging and waiting. Plus, he was trained in all this karma-sumo bullshit that uses practically any attack you throw at him against you. It’s so fucking annoying. His literal favourite tactic is to limbo his way out of problems.”
Iida should have found this a concerning piece of information, but all that was going through his head was that it definitely sounded like these three were trained by a circus. “Does his Quirk assist with that?”
Katsuki’s bite faltered. “Don’t worry about his Quirk.” Iida was about to object as Katsuki held up a hand. “If Izuku wants to talk about it, he will, but I ain’t no snitch, and you are not that important to me.”
Iida let it go. “Very well. You and Izuku must fight often; it would be better if I took the lead against him, as he will not be used to me.”
Katsuki rolled his eyes. “Take this personally-”
“Don’t you mean ‘don’t take this personally’?”
Katsuki gave him a look. “Take this personally, he would destroy you immediately. Izuku probably already has 50 plans on how to take you out. You wouldn’t stand a chance. Besides, Izuku and I haven’t had a real fight in years, none of us has.”
“You haven’t?”
Katsuki nodded. “Toga’s Dad, the one who trained us all, decided it was best if we didn’t. The only times we’ve sparred are in martial arts training, and that’s with no Quirks, no alternative fighting styles, nothing.”
“Why would he do that?”
“Two reasons. One, it prevents us from tailoring our fighting styles against each other. This means we won’t have developed habits purely based on two people rather than any group of fighters, and instead, just developed the fundamentals. And two, he knew we would likely all end up in UA together and specifically, that during exams, sport festivals, that stuff, we would probably come up against each other eventually. By preventing the battle from being a repeat of a hundred before, it prevents us from psyching ourselves out if historically we struggled in a certain matchup and forces us to adapt knowledge based on reports and basic information rather than previous experience with a certain fighter.”
Iida nodded slowly. “Won’t you all end up fighting throughout UA?”
“That’s what we all said, but no. He refused.” Katsuki crossed his arms childishly.
Iida glanced at the clock. “I still do not believe splitting up is the best plan. Might it be better to fight him together?”
Katsuki shook his head. “You’re still not getting it, are you extra? In a different life, Izuku would be the number 1 student here to worry about. It’s not just the training he received; it’s his mind. His strategies. He was the only student in the country to place in the top 10% of students around Japan who wasn’t going into academia. This goes up to the top 5% if you remove students with IQ-enhancing Quirks. If his head wasn’t set on being a hero, he would have skipped grades for something more interesting. The more variables Izuku has, the more likely he is to win this fight. The best plan is to isolate him from the girl and you so he can’t use either of you in the fight.”
“Would he not have more data on you that he can use in this fight than me? You did grow up together.”
Katsuki took a deep breath. He reminded himself that murdering a classmate was frowned upon. “Listen closely, four-eyes. This is the last time I’m saying this, so get it through that thick skull of yours. Izuku is going to have equal amounts of data on everyone in this class, including Toga and me. The only three students who can claim to have a lower level of intel, which will be brought up to par by the class of this class, is the posh British one-”
“Yaoyorozu?”
“The invisible one-”
“Hagakure?”
“And the octopus.”
“Shoji?”
“Whatever. Because they were either protected by their family, had zero public information due to recording them being impossible or grew up in a town far away from the city. I know this because Izuku complained about this. You and I, on the other hand, are equals in the amount of information Izuku has on us. This means the only difference between you and me fighting him is that you will be wildly unprepared for 99% of what he can do. So you are going to stay here, and I’m going to try to stop him. If pink cheeks show up, handle her. Otherwise, do whatever you want. Got it?”
The buzzer sounded, telling the students the training exercise was about to begin.
Iida nodded, but he seemed unsure.
“Fucking finally. I’m going to find him. Don’t screw up the one thing I’m asking you to do extra.” Katsuki began walking away when the window shattered behind them both.
“Release,” Ochaco shouted as she and Izuku landed on the floor. She panted, looking ready to puke, but Izuku was already running at the weapon.
Chapter 11: Weapons
Chapter Text
Katsuki turned as he heard the glass shatter. Ochaco let out a shout as they landed. Izuku was already reaching out for the weapon.
Before he could touch it, Katsuki blasted himself around the fake bomb, exploding the air in front of Izuku and throwing him to the side. Katsuki landed, explosions sparking in his palm. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Izuku chuckled, picking himself up. “Well, look at that. My apologies, Ochaco. It appears Katsuki didn’t ditch Iida at the first chance. Guess things are going to be slightly more difficult than I predicted.”
“You little shit!” Katsuki charged forward as Izuku ducked down. He skidded back, reaching behind his back. He lifted his jumper slightly and pulled out the weapon hidden beneath.
Katsuki wasn’t dumb, despite Toga’s claims. When they were about 8 or 9, Deku had asked them to each pick a weapon they would want to use as heroes. There had been restrictions on the choice: no guns, no swords, nothing poisonous or alive. That sort of stuff.
Toga had chosen her needle-knife things, specially made for her. She liked to show them off when she could, and they were the primary way she collected blood for her Quirk or her ‘mosquito tendencies’ as the family called it.
Katsuki had chosen a grenade, though Deku had refused to give him a real one, and instead, he got a ton of fakes and rubber balls. The closest he got to the real deal prior to UA was the flash grenades Lady Nagant would let him use when Deku wasn’t there to stop her.
Izuku, on the other hand, had never revealed the weapon he had chosen. At first, they thought he was just taking longer. Izuku always took longer to decide on anything. Then it became clear he was hiding it, and then they forgot entirely.
Okay, maybe Katsuki was a little dumb because he was completely unprepared for Izuku to take out a whip. The weapon snapped by his ear with a loud crack that fizzled in Katsuki’s hearing aid. He swore as he dropped to the side and took it out.
“You have a hearing aid,” Iida screamed as Katsuki glared at him.
“I explode things! It’s my whole deal! You think that doesn’t have consequences?!”
“You should have told me that!”
“You don’t matter in this fight!” Katsuki would continue arguing, but he had to dodge first. The second crack of the whip exploded on the other side of his head, screwing over the other aide.
He ripped it out, too. Suddenly, everything was a lot quieter. He could still vaguely hear Iida shouting something, but it was muffled and incomprehensible. In front of him, Izuku wound the wind back up, waiting for Katsuki’s next move.
“Oh, you’re dead.” Katsuki wasn’t sure if he had actually said it out loud until Izuku smirked at him.
After a moment, Izuku moved his hands. ‘Want to test that?’
Katsuki screamed as Izuku turned, running out of the room and away from the angry blond chasing him. Izuku rolled around a corner as he tapped his watch. The blue screen lit up as he pressed a button at the top. It switched slightly, showing a growing map recording of where he had been and the paths it could detect.
With this in place, Izuku began to run. Every so often, he was slow just until he saw sight of Katsuki, blasting along after him. More often, he had to dodge the flying anger issue, who was about 80% faster than him.
Izuku took a breath as he placed his back against the wall. He glanced at the map. The entire floor was mapped out. He went to press a button when Katsuki jumped out of nowhere. The explosion threw Izuku through the wall as he coughed. “Damn, since when could he be quiet?”
Katsuki panted aggressively, glaring at Izuku. “You fucking shit! You really piss me off, you know that?! You always do this. So confident in your plans.”
Izuku grinned, standing up and signing ‘they always work’.
“We’ll see about that.” Katsuki raised his hand, wrapping his finger around a pin on the giant gauntlet gloves he wore. “These aren’t just for decoration, Izuku. They collect my sweat and store it for one big attack. The more I work, the more pissed off I get- well, want to see the results.”
Izuku’s smile fell.
In the observation deck, All Might rushed forward, pressing a button on the microphone. “Bakugo! Do not fire that! You will kill him! Do not use that weapon!”
“He can’t hear you,” Deku pointed out as All Might spun to glare at him.
“What?!”
“Izuku burst out of the hearing aids. He can’t hear you.”
“He’s going to kill that kid.”
Deku sighed, pulling out his phone.
“What are you doing?!”
Deku grinned. “Calling my lawyer, I suggest you do the same.” Deku was not calling his lawyer, but it was funny to watch All Might’s expression falter.
“Time to die, Izuku.” Katsuki shouted as Izuku began to run. He jumped behind the only piece of furniture he could reach, covering his head as he waited to die. Katsuki pulled the trigger and-
Nothing happened.
Katsuki blinked in surprise as he did the same to the other gauntlet, only to get the same result. “What?!”
Izuku let out a sigh of relief, jumping over the desk he was hiding behind and tackling Katsuki to the floor. He pushed Katsuki’s head into the ground and wrapped the tape around his wrists, all while he screamed to hell and back.
Izuku hopped off, squatting in front of Katsuki and signed ‘I win’.
Down the corridor, Iida stood by the door, watching- or rather- listening to the fight. Ochaco took a deep breath as her stomach finished emptying out through the broken window. She stumbled up and walked to the weapon, touching it and announcing, “I’ve got the weapon,” over the coms.
Iida made a horrified sound before collapsing onto his hands and knees. “How could I have forgotten you were here?!”
Chapter 12: Scoring
Chapter Text
The class buzzed with excitement as they waited for the students to return. Deku and All Might remained quiet. All Might kept his bright grin on his face while Deku looked visibly pissed off.
Izuku and Ochaco led the way inside. Happy and excited. Iida hung his head in defeat, and Katsuki scowled, muttering about cheating and unfair advantages.
"Ochaco!" Toga rushed over, hugging the girl. "That was so cool! You guys won!"
Ochaco blushed. "I didn't really do anything, though. It was all Izuku."
Toga made a dismissive sound. "No way. He wouldn't have even made it to that floor without you."
Izuku gave her a 'seriously' look, which she ignored.
All Might and Deku walked over. Deku tapped Toga's shoulder and forced her to return to the rest of the students. He looked at Katsuki before signing 'Have you replaced them?'
"Yes, I have. I carry spares cause I'm not an idiot," he snapped back before pointing at Izuku. "And I'm still saying it's bullshit that he got to do that!"
Izuku looked away, pretending to be innocent. "It wasn't like I cut them off your ear. I just noticed a flaw in those things after the many, many, many, many, many, many-"
"Izuku," Deku warned as he coughed.
"Many he destroyed."
Deku shook his head as Katsuki scowled more. "Regardless, my support gear didn't work. What gives!"
"I blocked that," Deku stated, crossing his arms. "A safeguard is put in place on any support gear with a high chance of destruction that allows teachers to prevent the release mechanism from working. I told you not to try to kill anyone."
"He shouldn't count," Katsuki grumbled as Deku took in a deep breath.
"Until you have shown you can be trusted with this gear, the safeguard will continue to block your use."
"But Deku-"
"No. Katsuki Bakugo. If you kill anyone or use force deemed above reasonable, you will be unable to become a hero and will be arrested for assault, battery, use of deadly force, use of a deadly weapon and murder. This is not negotiable."
Katsuki scowled, crossing his arms, but he stopped arguing.
Toga let out a small whistle. "He got the full name treatment. He's in trouble now," she sang as Shoto nodded, receiving odd looks from the rest of the class.
Deku nodded, stepping back and returning control to All Might. He looked over the students. "Now, do you know which of you scored the highest?"
None of the four responded, but Momo put her hand in the air. All Might nodded for her to speak. "It is Izuku Midoriya. Bakugo lost his temper and almost killed someone, and Iida wasn't prepared and forgot about Uraraka's presence in that room. Uraraka, on the other hand, only followed Midoriya's instructions. Midoriya came up with a solid plan and took the weapon into account, making a point of separating Bakugo and his explosive Quirk from the bomb."
All Might took a breath. "That may be true, but that is wrong." Momo faltered for a second, slightly confused about what she missed. "Midoriya put himself in harm's way, battling a villain he could not handle. If we-" Deku raised an eyebrow at that but said nothing- "had not acted, he would have been severely hurt and would have become a liability for the next hero."
Izuku narrowed his eyes. "I did not take on a villain I couldn't handle, sir. While his attack did catch me by surprise, I would have survived it and either continued the fight or used the new hole in the wall to get further help."
"Your beliefs in your abilities do not reflect reality, young man. You had no hope of beating Katsuki in a fight. You shouldn't have gone head-to-head with him." All Might glared down at Izuku.
He took a breath and raised his head. "Is this about my Quirk, sir?" The room grew tense. Katsuki, Toga, Shoto and Izuku all waited for the response. The rest of the class was simply confused.
All Might blinked and put on a smile. "Of course not." He laughed, but the tension didn't go away. "I just do not want you getting hurt or killed because you do not understand your abilities."
Before Izuku could say anything more, Deku spoke. "Then who do you think scored the highest?" All Might almost looked confused, so Deku continued. "It is clear to me that Izuku did the best in this group for the exact reasons Miss Yaoyorozu laid out. Even if we do take any weight from your words, he still far exceeds the other students. Unless we both are missing something."
All Might thought for a moment. "Iida scored the highest. He came up with the best plan and kept in character as a villain more than the other students."
All Might's decision confused the entire class. Iida raised his hand. "Sir, I do not believe I should score highest. While I did attempt to plan with Bakugo, we never came up with a proper plan and everything you could call a plan was created by him, not me. Furthermore, I did not do anything during the actual mission and forgot about a hero standing behind me. I performed poorly and should not be scored in any way that doesn't reflect that."
All Might stepped back, keeping his grin on his face. "Let's move on. The next fight is Team B vs Team I!"
The students shared a confused look. Katsuki growled, about to approach All Might, when Izuku grabbed him. "Leave it. We knew this would happen."
He scoffed. "Fucking asshole."
Toga and Shoto rushed over as Toga laughed. "Well, that was a shit show. Guess we didn't hope hard enough about a fair teacher."
Izuku shrugged. "It won't matter. Nezu won't let this affect exams. These classes don't affect our grades, so his opinion doesn't matter."
Shoto frowned, taking Izuku's arm. "Are you okay?"
Izuku took a deep breath, closing his eyes for a moment. "I'm okay." He smiled, taking Shoto's hand for a moment and squeezing. "Really, I'm okay. Go. You're up."
Shoto nodded, letting Izuku go hesitantly and joining Shoji as they headed to their assigned building.
Toga made a hum. "Honestly, I know Dad chewed you out for it, but I can't believe you almost killing Izuku was not the main argument of that conversation."
Katsuki made a shout. "He wouldn't have died!"
Toga laughed, not bothering to comfort him in any way.
Chapter 13: Design
Chapter Text
Toga kept to the back wall. Katsuki was still grumbling, sitting on the floor to her left while Izuku stood to her right, updating Iida’s file.
“Aren’t you going to watch the fight? Isn’t Shoji one of the ones you’re missing info on?” Toga glanced at Izuku as he hummed.
“He won’t be doing anything in this fight.”
Toga blinked. “But isn’t Hagakure also on your list?”
“She also won’t be doing anything in this fight.”
Toga frowned. “So confident.”
Izuku finally took his eyes off the screen. “Shoto is powerful, Toga. As a hero in this scenario, he will prevent the villains from doing anything.”
“You think he’s that strong?” Ochaco questioned as Izuku nodded.
“You’ll see.”
On the screen, the fight began. Shoji looked at Shoto, asking him something, but Shoto ignored him. He touched the wall as the temperature dropped. Ice stretched across the building, freezing everything but Shoto and Shoji to the floor.
Shoto began climbing the stairs, eventually finding the bomb, Ojiro and Hagakure stuck to the floor. He touched the bomb, securing the win before turning to Hagakure. “Are you wearing any clothes?”
Hagakure chattered her teeth. “I’ve got gloves and my shoes.”
Shoto frowned at that. He began heating up the air as he turned on his coms. “Deku, did you hear that?”
“I did. Bring them both back.” Deku turned away, walking to a supply closet on the other side of the room. He had stashed a number of things there. Burn salves for whoever fought against Katsuki, food for Momo and thick blankets for Hagakure and Ojiro. When they arrived, Ojiro was a lot warmer, but Hagakure continued to shiver. None of the boys was comfortable touching her after her reveal. Deku walked over and wrapped her in the blanket.
“After class, I want you to drop by the principal’s office.” If anyone could see Hagakure, they would be able to see her paling and her eyes widening. Before she could say anything, Deku offered her a smile. “You are not in trouble.”
She relaxed a little, but only a little.
All Might didn’t seem to have a problem complementing Shoto’s work.
As the next two teams headed out, the previous split up. Hagakure slid to the floor, pulling the blanket tighter around her. Mina smiled as she sat down. “Hey, you okay?”
Hagakure almost jumped before she sat up. “Yep! Super sucks, I couldn’t do more, but I guess that’s how the cookie crumbles.”
Mina eyed up the invisible girl. “Want a hug?”
“Yes, I’m so cold!” Mina laughed as Hagakure tackled Mina.
Mina let out a restrained hiss. “Oh, you’re really cold.” Mina hugged her back anyway, rubbing Hagakure’s back.
~~~
“You did well,” Izuku praised as Shoto joined them.
He was frowning, his head hung. “Ice can destroy bare skin. I could have given that girl frostbite or worse.”
“Hey, that’s not your fault,” Toga scoffed. “If this school is gonna let a girl walk around in that costume, that’s their fault.”
“Bet ya Deku’s going to get that designer fired,” Katsuki stated as the group nodded.
Toga scanned across the students. “Want to bet it’s the same designer that did Momo’s?”
“And Ochaco’s,” Izuku added as the girl lifted her head.
“Wha- mine? Mine isn’t far off what I asked for,” she stated, as the other four gave her a look.
Toga cleared her throat, holding up her hand. “There are three costumes in this room that were designed terribly. These are Momo’s, yours and that girl’s-”
“Hagakure,” Izuku piped up, making Toga give him a look.
Katsuki ignored them. “Starting with Hagakure’s. Hers is just wrong. Wearing nothing means she’s not only at risk of elemental risks, such as wind burns, but sun also burns, hypothermia, hyperthermia and more; her risks of being assaulted are going to be drastically high.”
“It’s also technically illegal,” Shoto piped up as Izuku nodded.
“Heroes and their costumes have to comply with decency laws.”
Ochaco frowned. “If that’s true, how come her costume was designed like that at all?”
“There are loopholes,” Izuku began, pulling up case studies on his screen. “Heroes whose Quirk is inhibited by normal clothes can argue against certain design elements. This is how heroes can reduce the clothes they wear or position the clothes they wear. For a level of clarity, the basic rule is that if nothing can be seen, the designer can do as they wish. Midnight’s case study was the only time this was heavily pushed back against, but with someone like Hagakure, the designers can do whatever they want.”
Ochaco almost looked queasy. Toga gave her a smile, placing a hand on Ochaco’s shoulder. “It’s okay. Part of the reason we all go through the school process is to spot these problems early. Deku will burn the designer to the ground.”
“Surely if wearing clothes becomes a problem, they’ll always run into this problem,” Ochaco muttered as Toga shook her head.
“Not in the slightest. Making new fabrics is 80% of the support hero’s job. The most common method is to take the heroes’ hair and weave it into a fabric that then works with them.” Ochaco pulled a face as Izuku chuckled.
“There are other methods too, but as most Quirks are extremely complex, it is the most common.”
Ochaco shuffled. “So, what is wrong with Momo’s costume?”
“Boob windows always result in assaults,” Toga and Katsuki answered together.
Toga grinned. “On the bright side, I have more faith that that woman can handle herself if a guy gets grabby.”
“Still bad design,” Katsuki stated as the group nodded.
“Shouldn’t the heroes be arresting the man who would attack them rather than telling them to cover up?” Shoto interrupted as Izuku and Katsuki turned to Toga to explain.
“Yes. And in an ideal world, these wouldn’t be the main consideration, but in the real world, that’s not how it works. Not only are heroes held in higher regard, meaning they won’t be allowed to react defensively to an attack like that, but it’s also a common fact that civilians feel more ownership of a hero than their fellow citizens.”
“It’s like the police statistic we told you about. Because these programs are funded by taxpayer yen, bad civilians can get the idea that they are the police and heroes’ boss,” Izuku explained as Toga hummed.
“Which becomes significantly more likely with a female hero. And we’re not talking in like the health sense where it goes from 0.000001% to 0.00002%. We’re talking about it going from about 40 to over 90% chance of being assaulted, especially for students and sidekicks. It’s the main reason why Midnight is so highly ranked. 90% of her arrests are perverts and creeps who decided her body was okay to touch.”
“As a result, hero schools are required to prevent these sorts of costumes, and if legislation falls the right way, it’s going to be illegal for heroes under the age of 20 and with less than 2 years on the job to be in these sorts of costumes.”
Ochaco gaped before she glanced down. “And what about mine?”
“Yours is a lot better. You’re not going to be attacked for it,” Katsuki admitted as Toga nodded.
“But your designer still ignored your wishes. It’s the first thing you told us. Making a hero suit skin tight- especially for female heroes- should always be a choice.”
“Even if you needed it for compression, they should have given you options for layers to make you more comfortable. If you are uncomfortable at any point, it will impact your fighting and confidence.”
Ochaco blinked, scratching her cheek. “It’s not that bad. I just wasn’t expecting it.”
“If you’re sure. But remember, you can change your costume at any time.” Toga took Ochaco’s hand as she blushed lightly.
Katsuki rolled his eyes, turning back to the screen as Tsu and Tokoyami came out victorious. “You’re up next, Toga,” he stated, making Toga grin.
“Guess you better watch how it’s done, Kacchan.”
“Don’t call me that!”
Toga laughed, running off as Izuku folded his arms. “I got 1,000 yen on her only following the pretty girl’s instructions and forgetting she has a brain.”
Ochaco frowned a little, leaning back against the wall.
Chapter 14: Defending
Chapter Text
Toga glanced around the room, looking at the bomb. “Defendable. Nice.” Yaoyorozu raised an eyebrow as Toga cleared her throat. “What I meant to say is ‘do you have a plan’?” Toga smiled nervously as Momo looked at the door.
“We should secure it. I can create a metal barrier preventing any entry.”
Toga nodded. “Wait them out. I like it.” She paused. “Seems boring though.”
Momo gave her a look. “Our objective is to win. Not to be entertained.”
Toga opened and closed her mouth, nodding nervously. “Yeah, you’re right.” She leaned against the wall, humming to herself. “What do you know about the two we’re fighting?”
Momo paused. “Jiro and Kaminari?” Toga nodded. “I am uncertain about Kaminari. I have yet to see him use his Quirk, but Jiro has enhanced hearing and can send out powerful sound waves from the jacks on her ears.”
Toga blinked slowly. “Sound waves?”
“Yes.”
Toga began to grin. “Oh, this is going to be a terrible match-up for her.”
Before Toga could leave the room, Momo got in her way. “I will not let you leave without a proper plan.”
Toga blinked. “Yes, ma’am.” She gave Momo a salute as the girl sighed. How was this girl Deku’s daughter?
~~~
Jiro hesitated as she stopped, plugging her earphone jack into the floor. She made a hand signal to Kaminari as he grinned. He placed his hands on the ground as the electricity began sparking.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” a voice interrupted. On the other side of the corridor, a nine-year-old girl watched them. “Unless you want to fry your partner there.”
Kaminari blinked in surprise. “What?!”
“And I wouldn’t want you to defeat yourselves before I got the chance.” Toga rushed forward, swinging at Kaminari as he stumbled back. Jiro stepped forward, her earphones plugged into her shoes as the sound vibrated out.
Toga grinned, her eyes shimmering as the sound waves bounced around. The ground cracked, opening beneath the three of them.
Kaminari and Jiro fell, slamming into the floor below. Toga remained afloat. The air rippled around her like waves in a pond, focusing around her feet.
Below, Momo let out a startled sound, turning around in surprise. “Toga! What-”
“I found them trying to surprise you. Thought I’d get a head start. Turns out, Blondie has an electricity Quirk if that sparking is anything.”
Kaminari sat up slowly while Jiro pushed herself up. Her boots began sending out a loud heartbeat sound, forcing Kaminari to cover his ears.
Momo and Toga, on the other hand, remained unaffected. The waves and ripples began forming around Momo, protecting her.
Jiro didn’t care, charging at that fake bomb. Before she could, the waves and ripples slammed into her, throwing her to the side.
Toga landed on the ground, glancing at Momo like an excited puppy. “This is not good work. You were supposed to keep them far away from this room.” Toga pouted as Momo let out a sigh. “Can you handle Jiro?”
Toga grinned. “Yes, ma’am.” Jiro stumbled to her feet, not prepared for Toga to hit her. Jiro staggered back as Toga kicked her. She slammed into the wall, gasping in surprise. Toga towered over her, a feat quite impressive for the nine-year-old figure she was currently using. “I suggest you stay down. Just as easily as I can make your sound louder than you plan, I can make it nothing.”
Jiro gulped, looking past her at Kaminari. Momo held a pole to Kaminari’s chest, pushing him into the ground. Out of her arm, a pair of handcuffs was created, which she took off and wrapped around Kaminari’s wrists.
Jiro swallowed as Toga pulled out the capture tape, wrapping it around her. With Jiro out of commission, Toga turned around, giving Momo a look. “Did you really forget about the capture tape?”
Momo opened and closed her mouth. “I apologise. This was a habit.”
Toga grinned at that. “Not a bad habit, and besides, All Might will be too angry with me to even notice.”
Momo raised her eyebrow before she released Kaminari. Toga pulled out her knife as her body returned to normal. She cut Jiro’s bindings as she stood up, rubbing her wrists.
“You didn’t have to hit me that hard.”
“The day a hero hesitates is the day they die,” Toga announced seriously. “That’s what my dad always says.”
“Always?” Jiro frowns as Toga shrugged.
“Well, that and ‘stop trying to kill each other!’” Toga grinned as she started walking back to the observation deck. The other three trailed behind her, giving her a mix of confused and worried looks.
All Might eyed the four students. “Well done, Yaoyorozu. Your plan was well thought out, and you adapted to the situation effectively. Kaminari and Jiro, while not as well executed, you did have a plan and worked together well. Teams E and F are next.”
Toga didn’t respond, keeping her head high. Momo, on the other hand, raised her arm in the air. “Sir, you forgot Toga’s feedback.”
All Might locked eyes with Toga, who gave him a toothy grin. “You acted too recklessly. Destroying that floor could have hurt the other team, and your rough fighting with Jiro was unnecessary.”
Toga didn’t waver. “I took both calculated and necessary actions, and I played my role. I was the villain. If I were real, I wouldn’t need to leave the heroes alive.”
All Might’s smile faltered. “The final teams should get in place.”
Mina glanced around in confusion before she left with the rest of the group. Toga began walking, joining her friends at the side.
“Toga,” Deku called out, making her stop. “Your fighting and demeanour were very good for the exercise, but you should be cautious about following orders blindly.”
Toga opened and closed her mouth. “It wasn’t blind. I had faith in the person I was working with.” Deku raised an eyebrow. “What? No one that pretty could be dumb.”
Deku sighed heavily, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
Izuku shook his head. “That isn’t how that works.”
“It’s often the opposite,” Katsuki scoffed as Toga gave him a glare.
“Should be thankful your ass is ugly then.”
Katsuki let out a scream, trying to hit her as she began to dodge. Deku sighed, walking over and picking them both up by their collars. He held them in the air, giving them both a look. “If you two can’t behave, you’ll have detention.”
“Yes, sir,” they muttered, hanging limply as Deku put them down.
Chapter 15: HCOV
Chapter Text
Toga sighed as she pulled the hero costume off her. She put each piece in its designated spot, a piece of pride swelling as she looked over her costume. Her costume. She was going to be a hero. She was going to make her dad proud.
The girls kept shifting their gaze, clearly wanting to ask. After a long, awkward silence that Toga did not notice, Jiro sighed. "Toga?"
Toga jumped, turning. "Yes? I'm sorry about being so rough during the match! I promise I didn't want to hurt you!" Toga bowed deeply as Jiro blinked.
"No. That's not- it's fine. You did well, and it just means I should look into more fighting techniques."
Toga grinned. "Oh, I can help with that. I know tons of martial arts gyms are here. Technically, I'm banned from them, but you'll be able to go. I can even make introductions!"
Jiro raised an eyebrow. "If you're banned, I doubt your introduction would be a benefit."
“On contre. I got banned cause my dad told them I was 'overtraining' rather than any bad behaviour. They actually loved me. Well, apart from Boxing Break- that one was bad behaviour, but that homophobic bitch had it coming. Talking shit about my dads." The girls shared a look as Toga blinked. "What were we talking about?"
Hagakure decided to step forward. "We were wondering why All Might seems to be," she hesitated as Mina popped up.
"Being a dick towards you and your crew."
Toga snickered. "He really is a dick, ain't he?" Toga tried to high-five Mina, who wasn't as sure about the comment.
"Why?" Hagakure asked as Toga made a sound.
"He's bitter." The girls were about to ask again when Toga held up a hand. "I'm not trying to be difficult- well, actually I am-, but I have a reason! The boys are going to be asking these questions, too. Best get it all out of the way at once and just do a class meeting."
Toga shrugged as she picked up the hero case. She spun around, a bright grin on her face.
"Besides, if I'm getting to slag off that asshole, I'm going to do it to the biggest crowd I can find."
The girls didn't think that was a good thing.
~~~
Toga opened the door to 1A's homeroom, pausing as she glanced over the students. Izuku, Shoto and Katsuki were all standing at the front around the teacher's desk while the rest of the boys circled them- well, except Iida, who was the only one still in his seat.
"Oh wow, it's like that intervention we held for Tsutsumi to ask her to stop getting cats," Toga whistled as she hopped over to the teacher's desk as well.
Shoto blinked and tilted his head. "You held an intervention for that."
"Of course. It was getting out of hand."
"Didn't fucking work though," Katsuki scoffed as Izuku hummed.
"It's still out of hand."
Katsuki glanced past Toga, eying up the girls as they shuffled into the crowd. "You didn't tell them?"
Toga shrugged. "Thought I'd let it be a group thing. I'm surprised you didn't tell the boys."
"Why would I? This is your fault. I'm just getting caught in the crossfire," Katsuki shouted as Toga pulled a face.
"It's not my fault! Your personality is just as much at fault!"
Izuku sighed, "This invention is going just as well as the last one."
Ochaco made increasingly harsh whispers to the people around her before she was pushed forward. She made an awkward sound before taking a breath. "You don't have to tell us, but what is happening with you guys and All Might-"
"That guy is totally discriminating against you," Kirishima shouted, jumping out of the crowd. "We should report him to Nezu!"
Toga glanced at Izuku and Katsuki before she sighed. "No, don't do that. Nezu is already well aware of this."
Kirishima faltered. "He is?"
She shrugged. "There is no way he isn't. He tried to petition against my brother coming to this school, tried to stop Izuku and me from getting in and tried to stop my dad from getting a job. We just expect this stuff now."
"But this isn't okay," Ochaco shouted, taking Toga's arm. "You shouldn't have to deal with this, especially when you've done nothing wrong."
Toga smiled softly; it was rare that someone defended her. "Thank you, Ochaco, but really, it doesn't bother me. I knew I was going to have to work harder, and that was before learning All Might was working here."
"Why, though?"
"Because I'm a HCOV kid."
"HCOV?" Ochaco frowned, glancing around herself. No one else in the class seemed to know either.
Katsuki scoffed, crossing his arms. "High Chance of Villainy. It's a stupid fucking label backwards assholes use to justify pushing certain people into worse conditions."
"Heroes use it to describe people who, due to their family, living conditions, Quirk or personality, have a supposed higher chance of becoming a villain," Izuku explained. "Toga's Quirk and history got her labelled as one."
Toga made an annoyed sound. "Which is stupid."
Ochaco nodded. "Your Quirk wouldn't make you a villain. Vlad has a blood Quirk, and he works here."
Toga chuckled a little. "There is a slight difference in controlling blood and drinking it, but that's not actually what annoys me." Toga sighed, hunching in on herself slightly. "Anyone who lost their parents and ended up in the foster or adoption system is classified as HCOV regardless of whether they left the system and when." Toga saw the confused looks she was getting. "My dad adopted me when I was just a baby. I've spent my whole life with him, but because I once had other parents, I'm considered high risk. All my siblings are."
"Your other siblings also include the children of villains and the living ball of hellfire," Katsuki muttered as Toga slapped him.
"You don't get to insult them. Only I get to do that!"
Katsuki screamed, grabbing her as they started fighting.
Izuku ignored them, stepping away. "Katsuki is considered HCOV because of his anger issues."
Katsuki stopped pulling Toga's hair. "What did you just say?!"
"Plus, his Quirk is considered a high chance of danger because he is a walking bomb," Toga added, pulling herself away.
The class wasn't that surprised by that information.
"Hang on, why is Izuku considered high risk?" Mina asked, throwing her hand in the air over Kirishima.
Katsuki and Toga both shared a look. Neither planned to say anything. Izuku sighed, turning his head away. "All Quirkless kids are considered HCOV."
Chapter 16: Quirkless
Chapter Text
"All Quirkless kids are considered HCOV."
There was a quiet moment in the class before Kaminari spoke. "What does that have to do with you?"
Toga couldn't stop herself from bursting out laughing, almost doubling over. Katsuki wasn't sure who he should glare at more, the dumbass who made the comment or the dumbass dying from it.
Izuku, on the other hand, took a breath in and looked Kaminari straight in the eyes. "I'm Quirkless."
Kaminari made a small sound. "But I thought you had an intelligence Quirk- you know- like Nezu."
"No. He's just that smart," Shoto stated proudly as Izuku smiled a little.
"That's so much cooler than!" Kaminari genuinely looked excited. "I can't believe there is someone that smart without a Quirk helping them."
"Not to mention your fighting is far superior than a number of Quirk wielders," a boy with a bird for a head, which Izuku recognised as Tokoyami, added.
Izuku chuckled a little as he stretched his arms. "I've known my whole life I'll have to work harder and smarter. My uncle trained me so I could prove my worth in this space."
"You shouldn't have to," Katsuki scoffed as Toga snorted.
"You saying heroes shouldn't have to prove their capability before hitting the street?" She grinned as Katsuki made an annoyed sound.
"That's not what I meant, and you know it!"
Toga stuck out her tongue, side-stepping Katsuki's attempts to hit her.
"I have a question," a frog-like girl- Tsuyu- interrupted, raising her hand. "Why are you telling us not to report All Might when he's discriminating based on such a flawed concept?"
The kids shared a look. After a moment, Toga shrugged. "Because that isn't the main reason he wants us out of this school. It's just the main reason we knew we'd have to work harder before we even took the entrance exam."
That confused the class even more. "Then why is he so against you guys?" Hagakure asked as Toga shrugged again.
"'Cause he doesn't like my dad." The class was half sure Toga was choosing the path of most confusion. "All Might has had this beef with my dad for like 15 years at this point. He hates him, he hates his husband, and he hates his kids."
"Why, though?" Mina asked as Toga hummed.
"Tenko told me that because of a miscommunication, All Might was convinced that my dad was a villain. Dad tried to reassure him that it wasn't true, but it never really worked. And to make things worse, dad pretty much exclusively adopts HCOV kids, so All Might is super convinced dad is raising an evil army of kids, and he doesn't think UA should be helping him."
The class shared a worried look, all mentally trying to avoid being the one to ask the question. After a number of whispers, Ochaco was pushed forward again as the chosen sacrifice. "Why is All Might so convinced of that?"
Toga narrowed her eyes. After a moment, she turned to the boys for help. Katsuki was almost disappointed, but he was used to this.
"Uncle Deku said it was because of his Quirk. Something about it reminded All Might of a villain, but that's about all I've managed to get."
Katsuki scoffed. "Mum said it was cause All Might was homophobic."
"Your mum says anyone who doesn't like penguins is homophobic. And anyone who has a problem with the colour pink. I once heard her say that someone who didn't like tea was homophobic. It's her go-to insult," Toga pointed out as Izuku scoffed.
"What homophobic behaviour, Toga?"
She made a horrified sound as Izuku chuckled. "But I'm gay!"
"We noticed," the boys answered as Toga roundhouse kicked Katsuki off the teacher's desk.
The class didn't bother taking note of the fight, too focused on a detail Izuku let slip. "Hang on, hang on, hang on," Ojiro shouted, "did you just say, Uncle Deku?"
Mina made a dramatic sound, slamming her hand on the desk. "I knew I recognised you! You were the one everyone accused of being Deku's kid because they didn't understand how genetics work!"
Izuku blinked slowly as Toga and Katsuki chuckled. "I thought people had forgotten about that."
Mina beamed. "I can't believe that was you. I knew you were familiar back on the train. I even tried looking you up, but you won't believe how many people have green hair in the public eye."
Izuku and Katsuki shared a concerned look as Toga frowned. Wasn't that pink girl a different pink girl?
"So if your uncle is Deku, then that would make," Sero drifted off as he looked at Toga.
Toga beamed, giving the class her proudest grin. "That's right. Deku is my dad!"
The chaos that erupted from that statement shook the entire building. It would have been concerning, but Nezu had made the foundations shock-resistant.
"But- how?" Kaminari gasped as Toga smirked.
"Well, you see, when a man and a woman fuck they can produce a kid. And sometimes, if they don't think they can raise that kid, that kid gets adopted by a gay man like my dad."
There was a long silence as Izuku cleared his throat. "But back to the point-"
"Screw the point, this is more important," Mina shouted as Izuku raised an eyebrow.
"Back to the point, All Might has never gotten along with Deku, and he's projecting it onto us."
"And since this isn't the first time Nezu knows," Katsuki added as Ochaco frowned.
"It's still not right."
Toga shrugged. "Well, I'm sure the negative bias from All Might and the positive bias from my dad will cancel each other out."
"You think I'm positively biased towards you," Deku asked, opening the door to the class and making them jump.
"But, Dad, All Might is being mean." Deku gave Toga a look as she grinned. "Sorry." She was not sorry.
"Everyone back in your seats," Deku ordered as the class scrambled. "Firstly, I would like to say you all did exceptionally well in your first hero scenario. Maybe some of you have come away dispondent from your first loss, but do your best to remember, this is merely your starting point. You will do much more in the next few years that will change you both as a person and a hero."
Deku paused. He really hoped it wouldn't be as extreme as the world he came from.
"You'll receive your formal feedback tomorrow, but for now I want you all to reflect on your actions, what you did well and what you could improve on." Deku paused as he waited for the class to stop muttering. "Before I hand over to Midnight, I would like to address something. As you are now aware, Toga is my daughter, and Izuku is my nephew. I would like to reassure you all that I will not be favouring those connected to me. As I'm sure those two can tell you, I am very skilled at remaining neutral when it comes to their training."
Toga grumbled, putting her head on the table. "Neutral my ass. You're vindictive."
Deku looked away. "I simply believe heroes should be held to a high standard, a standard that I will expect from your classmates as they grow towards their goals."
"Oh, great. We're going to die."
The class froze, concern filling their bones as Deku just smiled.
"Alright, kiddos, who's ready to learn?" Midnight interrupted, throwing open the door. “Oh hey, Deku. Still teaching."
"I'm just leaving. Enjoy your lessons."
Sero frowned. "Why did that sound like a threat?"
"I'm starting to understand how Deku ended up with a kid like her," Momo muttered as Shoto gave her a look.
Chapter 17: Anticipation
Chapter Text
Deku smiled as he and All Might walked to their next class. All Might was still glaring at him.
"I would like to remind you, it's not my fault you forgot to go to 1A like we agreed to."
"We're late."
"Which wouldn't have happened if you hadn't disappeared on me." Deku shook his head. "It's the last class of the day. Let's just get this over so we can go home."
"To those kids of yours," All Might grumbled as Deku grinned more.
"Yes. And my husband. I'm going to enjoy my evening." Deku opened the door as 1B began to scream.
Amongst the chaos, a voice caught Deku's attention.
"This is incredible!" Inasa was out of his seat, with a bright, very proud grin.
Deku stared at him for a moment. Inasa was here? It made sense. Shoto was far from the person he was in Deku's school days.
As he watched the students leave, Deku smiled. He was glad Inasa was here.
Wait, did that mean Pony wouldn't come to Japan? Deku thought for a moment. Depending on how tomorrow goes, that might be for the best.
~~~
Deku sighed as he stared at his laptop, rewriting the same sentence for the 18th time.
"Wow, when I felt you leave, I thought I was just having a lovely lie in, not that you woke up before the cockerel." Akari chuckled as he walked over, wrapping his arms around Deku and snapping him out of his thoughts.
Deku chuckled, a soft smile on his face. He took Akari's hand, placing a kiss on the palm. "Well, I'm sorry for disturbing you."
Akari smiled, leaning his chin on Deku's head. "What's going on in this big brain of yours?"
"I'm figuring out how to subtly convince our design department to use a fabric that doesn't exist to make a costume that, according to the hero's file, wouldn't work but does because she doesn't understand her Quirk yet."
Akari hummed softly. "Toru?" Deku nodded as Akari thought. "Tell her our agency designed it for someone with a similar Quirk to Hagakure, and you would like to try it out for her and her Quirk."
Deku made a soft sound. "And if they ask questions?"
"That's what confidentiality rules are for."
Deku snorted. "I'm pretty sure there isn't a rule like that."
"So, they don't know that. Just say it's company policy. What are they gonna do? Ask for the policy? You write the policy, you'd just add it."
Akari started pulling away as Deku gently tugged at his arm. "Thank you, love." Deku leaned up, kissing Akari before slowly standing up. "This weekend, we should ask Tsutsumi to look after the kids. A weekend alone."
Akari hummed happily. "Does that mean we'll get the days off work?" Deku groaned, already knowing the answer. He lowered his head into Akari's shoulder as the man laughed. "We'll go on a date afterwards."
"The park?"
"The park." Akari tilted Deku's head up, kissing him again.
Tenko made a sound. "Seriously? It's 6:30 in the morning." He pulled a disgusted face as Deku rolled his eyes.
"When are you growing out of this moody teenage phase again?" Deku turned away from Akari as Tenko stuck out his tongue.
"When are you two going to grow out of your puppy love phase?"
"When you don't grow out of puppy love, that's called marriage," Akari stated as Deku grinned proudly. Tenko just rolled his eyes again.
"So, what are you doing up this early, Tenko? Don't tell me Eriko is using her Quirk in her sleep again." Deku walked towards the fridge, pulling out the carton of milk as Tenko made a sound.
"Not this time. The whole house would hear that," Tenko chuckled a little. Akari handed Deku the brewed cup of tea as he poured the milk in. "Think I'm just nervous."
Deku smiled, handing Tenko the cup. "Don't be, sweetheart. Nezu already loves you."
"Then, when am I being assessed like a stranger?"
Tenko paused, sharing a look with his dads. "All Might," they answered together before they laughed.
Akari took a seat, giving a cup of coffee and sipping his warm lemon water. "You know, if you don't want to do this, you can ask Anan to swap you out. No one will blame you."
Tenko shook his head. "I know it's ridiculous, but I want to be there in case something is wrong."
Deku frowned a little. "That's not your responsibility, Tenko."
"Neither is it yours, but you'll be there."
There was an awkward pause before Akari put his cup down. "We'll find out today, won't we?" Deku nodded, glancing behind Tenko. "Are you worried about Toga?"
Deku made a small sound. "We still haven't told her. If it starts again today," he drifted off.
"You don't have to tell her, even if it does start again," Tenko muttered. "We'll stop it before she's ever involved."
Deku grinned, standing up and patting Tenko's head. "That's right. We will." Tenko frowned, but he didn't push his father away. "Right, want to watch something before we have to wake up the younger ones?"
Tenko smiled tentatively as Akari made a sound. "You enjoy that. This is my one day off, and you promised me I would get to sleep in." Akari picked up his mug, walking off as Deku grinned.
"Don't forget to put your earplugs in. I may have agreed to that, but none of the kids did."
Akari chuckled. "You think this is my first time?"
Deku grinned back before turning to Tenko. "Right. Happy or crying?"
Tenko made a sound. "Why are those the only films you have?"
"I have others. I've also got musicals." Deku grinned as Tenko gave him a look.
"I'll take happy."
~~~
Toga grinned as she walked into class. "Morning, Ochaco!"
Ochaco smiled back. "Morning, Toga." She paused, glancing behind Toga. "Where are the boys?"
Toga blinked. "I have no idea!" She grinned as Ochaco chuckled a little.
"Seriously?"
"Yep. I got on the train, and they just weren't there. Rude. I had to ride in complete silence. The pink one even tried to walk away from me when I talked to her."
Ochaco chuckled again. "Maybe that's cause you keep calling her 'The pink one'."
Toga tilted her head, jumping on Ochaho's desk and crossing her legs under her. "Well, why should I look at her when you're right in front of me?"
Ochaco blinked, blushing deeply as Toga internally cheered.
"Are you serious? It's like the first thing in the morning," Katsuki scowled as Toga scoffed.
"What? Just because I can talk to people doesn't mean you should get mad at me." Toga grinned cheekily, curling her back until she could see the boys. Katsuki, Izuku and Shoto were all together. Katsuki was looking ready to punch her already. "Why are you boys late anyway?"
Shoto almost looked embarrassed as Katsuki crossed his arms. "Izuku insisted on waiting for dumb-brain, and dumb-brain forgot to get ready."
"I didn't forget." Shoto shuffled. "My friends called me. We forgot about the time difference."
Toga burst out laughing as Shoto huffed. She spun around, leaning against her hands. "I had no clue you even had other friends. I thought you were completely friendless."
Shoto gave Toga a look. "I told you about them."
Toga blinked. "Wait, did you?"
Before Shoto could respond, the door opened. The class rushed to their seats as Aizawa walked to the front. He began recapping the previous day. "And Bakugo, until you prove you can be trusted with that support gear, they will remain blocked. Is that clear?"
Katsuki gritted his teeth as Toga snickered.
Aizawa glanced over the class. "Moving on, today you'll be-" the class tensed, waiting for the next horrendous thing to come- "choosing a class rep."
There was a sigh of relief before the class grew excited. Toga jumped up. "I wanna be class rep."
Izuku gave her a look. "No, you don't. It's like 50% paperwork."
"Yeah, sit down. I'm going to be class rep," Katsuki shouted as Izuku gave him a look.
"And the other 50% is people skills."
Both turned to Izuku, shouting at him. "Will you stop dragging us down?" Izuku just smirked, avoiding their glares.
Chapter 18: Class Rep
Chapter Text
The class continued to shout over each other as Aizawa slunk back. He really didn't want to deal with this.
"Hey there! Starting the party early?" Oboro grinned as the class went quiet. Aizawa almost sighed in relief.
"Class, I brought in someone to tell you more about the role. Oboro here was a class rep back when he was in school. Bother him, not me." Aizawa curled into a ball in the corner as Oboro grinned.
"You got it, Shota! Hey there, kiddos. I'm Cloud Nine! We've yet to meet in class, but I'm in charge of Class 2-B and one of the heroic teachers. As Shota said, I was a class rep all the way back when I was a student, and I've been put in charge of keeping all your class reps responsible and on track. Any questions before we get in?"
There was a quiet moment before Mina put up her hand. Oboro nodded at her as Mina spoke. "Who's Shota?"
Oboro blinked. "Shota is my husband."
"I don't think that's what she meant," Izuku muttered as Mina gasped loudly.
"You have a husband."
"Better than that. I have two." Oboro grinned proudly as Mina gasped more.
Before she could ask anything stupid, Aizawa threw a rubber at her forehead. "Sit down. Oboro, stay on track."
He made a sound before clearing his voice. "Right. So, as class rep of a heroics class, you'll have a bit more responsibility than in previous schools. Not only will you have your usual responsibilities and be part of the student council, but you'll also be expected to keep an eye on your classmates' health."
There was a pause before Ojiro put his hand up. "I thought that was the teacher's responsibility?"
"It is. As is the responsibility of everyone in this class to keep an eye out for each other however we are also aware that you guys are going to be stubborn and face more emotional and mental challenges than you'll ever be prepared for. Not all your classmates are going to be willing to tell a teacher they are hurt. That's where your class reps are going to come in. Not only will you be the first point of contact for a number of your classmates, but you'll also be choosing someone to become the class health official. This person will be given first aid training so they can handle those smaller injuries that you feel the need to hide. All these roles need to go to someone you all trust, no matter what, and someone who's going to be willing to handle that responsibility. Not to mention these should be people whom you trust to push you all if you are being particularly difficult."
The whole class went quiet.
"So, who's up for the role?" Oboro grinned as the class remained quiet for a moment. Then the hands went up. Almost every person put their hand up. "Great, state your case." The students started shouting over each other as Oboro held up a hand. “No, no no. That's no way to do it. People can't hear you."
There was a quiet moment before Iida stood up dramatically. "We won't get anywhere arguing. We should put it to a vote."
Oboro blinked, a grin on his face. "Well, I was leading you there, but sure. Go ahead."
Ochaco frowned. "Wait, if we're voting, won't everyone just vote for themselves. We don't exactly know each other."
"Exactly, then whoever does win will clearly have the class's trust!"
Oboro made a sound. "Oh, skipping the pitches. I like. Streamlined. Shota, you got 20 random pieces of small paper."
Aizawa made a sound, rolling over. "Why would I?"
Oboro narrowed his eyes. "My class always has 20 small pieces of paper ready to go."
~~~
Oboro grinned as he finished reading out the pieces of paper. Momo had taken to tallying the results on the board. "That's all of them." Momo put the chalk down as Oboro jumped up dramatically. "Alright, kiddos, the results are in, your winner is Midoriya."
There was a point. "Yeah, Momo's writing is too small. Which one of us won?" Toga asked, making Oboro blink.
He turned back to the board. "Izuku!"
Toga cursed, hitting her head against the desk. "Why didn't you guys vote for me?"
Katsuki made a sound. "I wasn't voting for an inferior candidate."
"I voted for Momo," Izuku stated simply, making the girl jump.
Toga turned. "Ochaco?" Ochaco avoided Toga's look. "Did you not vote for me?"
"You got one vote, of course she didn't," Katsuki scoffed, almost hitting Toga as hard as his actual punch.
The door opened as Deku made a sound. "A vote? That takes me back."
Oboro turned, grinning a little bit more. "You did a vote back in the Stone Age?"
"Hey, I'm not that old." Deku shook his head. "My class's votes were a little more lacking in candidates. Half the time, it was just the ever-dwindling members who didn't have brain damage or serious medical operations undergoing. It was a sad, terrifying day when Alien Queen got it. She was crying by the end." Deku smiled like it was a fond memory.
The rest of the room disagreed at this very sudden reminder that Deku grew up in a war. "Well, that was depressing," Oboro shouted, turning back to the board. "Male Midoriya, you're the class rep. Yaoyorozu, you're second in comm-" Oboro cut himself up, glancing at Deku, who tilted his head in confusion. "I mean, you're the vice rep. Good luck. You can take lunch to decide on the rest of the members."
Izuku gave Momo a nod as she bowed. "I will do my best in this position. Thank you all for your trust."
Izuku glanced around the club. "I will do my best, but I very much think you'll regret this decision."
"Izuku, you should have more faith in your abilities," Deku scolded as Izuku jumped, almost forgetting he was there. "Now, unfortunately, you'll have to delay this decision. I need to borrow Yaoyorozu and Hagakure."
The two girls shared a look, or rather, Hagakure looked to Yaoyorozu, who tried to look back but just ended up staring at Katsuki.
"Don't worry, you're not in trouble."
Hagakure slowly got up, joining Yaoyorozu as they walked out. Toga leaned towards Izuku. "Wow, a whole 24 hours. I'm amazed he held off on this lecture this long."
"Those poor designers," Izuku muttered.
"Don't feel sympathy towards them. You saw those designs."
Chapter 19: Deja Vu
Chapter Text
"Mr Deku, I know you said we weren't in trouble, but," Hagakure hesitated, "are we in trouble?"
Deku turned with a soft smile. "Of course you aren't. I simply wanted to take you both to the support hero department." They continued to walk in silence before Deku stopped in front of the door. Before Deku could open it, the door was blown off its hinges in a loud explosion.
A girl came flying out. Deku caught her holding her at arm's distance as he thought for a moment. This day was full of deja vu.
"Hatsume! Not again," Power Loader shouted before he paused. "Oh, Deku. What brings you by?"
Deku tucked Hatsume under his arm and walked in. "I've brought a couple of students who need to redesign their costumes."
Momo and Hagakure both made a startled sound as Power Loader looked at them. "What's wrong with them?"
"I could spend a whole day listing the problems, but I will start with the fact that they're completely illegal to give to students under the age of 18." Power Loader froze as the air around Deku grew darker. "I hope I don't have to remind you, these are laws I put into place, so I am very well versed in any single part of it and can recite all 115 pages of the Protect Female Heroes and Female Hero Students Bill down to every type of punctuation."
"Yeah, I know, I know." Power Loader waved his hand as he walked towards a large filing cabinet. "Names?"
Deku nodded at the girls as Momo pulled at her hair. "My name is Yaoyorozu Momo."
"Hagakure Toru."
Power Loader nodded, pulling out their files. He looked over Momo's first. "Right, I see the problem." He picked up a red pen, doodling over the design. "Yaoyorozu, what would you feel about a back opening rather than a front slit? We can shorten the design as well to keep your core free to use."
Momo blinked. "What is wrong with my current costume?"
Power Loader sighed. "Your costume is too easy to sexualise. You shouldn't be exposing yourself, especially when on the job."
Yaoyorozu still seemed confused as Deku put out a phone. "I'll hijack the start of your next heroic class. We'll have a proper talk about all this then."
Momo nodded slowly.
"How would you feel about a longer skirt?" Power Loader showed a design as Momo grew nervous.
"I asked for a short one." Power Loader looked at her, trying to make her continue. "I find it restricting. It's hard to move."
Power Loader nodded. "I'll add undershorts. They'll be unrestrictive but make your costume compliant."
Deku looked at Momo. "We have a range of fabrics that you can test to ensure the feel is right. Texture can be very important in your costume." Momo made a small sound as Deku smiled. "You can come back after school to test the prototype and fabrics."
Power Loader gave Deku a look. "You expect me to work that fast?"
"Oh, no. I don't. I expect her to work that fast." Deku took Hatsume out from under his arm, holding her up as she blinked.
"What?"
"What?" Power Loader echoed as Deku tilted his head.
"What?" He grinned for a moment before Power Loader took a deep breath.
"Hatsume is untrained, and her passion is for gadgets."
"That is true."
"She's already blown up my lab twice."
"That is also true."
"She can't be trusted to deliver what the client wants."
"And again, true, but do you know what she is good at?" Deku waited for a second as Power Loader looked at Hatsume.
"Destroying my lab?"
"Yes, but no. She's great at doing things in an insanely short amount of time if given specific instructions." Deku turned Hatsume in his hands. "Alright, girl, we have two students who need new costumes by the end of the day. One of them needs an entire overhaul of how her costume looks and functions. The other doesn't even have a new costume. She needs an entirely new fabric made, as it's too highly advanced for even my team to produce in-house. You up for it?"
Hatsume's eyes glimmered. "Did you say a new fabric?"
Deku grinned, putting Hatsume on the floor. "I'm giving you my email. When you successfully produce Yaoyorozu's costume and send me photographic proof, I will send you the design specs. I trust you to make it real."
Hatsume saluted. "You got it!" She started running off when Deku took the folder from Power Loader.
"Hatsume. You need to know what her costume needs to look like."
Hatsume waved her hand dismissively. "No, I don't! I've got a great memory."
Power Loader gave Deku an odd look. "Why do you think she could do this?"
Deku just smiled, a look crossing his face as he watched Hatsume work. "I don't know. I guess, I've just got a good feeling about that one."
Before Power Loader could ask any follow-up questions, a loud alarm echoed throughout UA. Deku almost cursed as he turned around. "Power Loader, can you keep an eye on these two?"
He almost didn't get a response out before Deku was gone.
~~~
Toga sighed as she put her food tray down. Ochaco looked at her in confusion. "Is something wrong?"
"Nothing."
Izuku snorted. "She's salty because Uncle Deku is talking to Momo and Hagakure about their costumes."
"I am not," Toga hissed, leaning against her hand as Ochaco frowned.
"But, I thought you said they needed to change?"
"They do," Toga grumbled as Katsuki scoffed.
"She's just pissed cause she was trying to make this whole announcement about her costume and failed completely."
Toga slammed her hands on the table. "I didn't!"
The boys snickered to themselves as Shoto frowned. "How did your costume make an announcement?"
Toga sighed, leaning against her hand. "It's stupid." She began playing with her food. "I just wanted people to know I was next."
Ochaco shared a look with Kirishima as he shuffled forward. "Next?"
"Everyone was so angry when Tenko said he wasn't going into patrol. He wanted to be a rescue hero, so he wasn't going to be the next Deku. So everyone started looking at Izuku. He's not even Deku's actual kid!"
"I'm not happy with it either," Izuku muttered as Toga sighed again.
"Right? I just hoped, maybe I could tell the world I was next. But dad didn't see it, and no one else did, so I guess I did fail."
There was a long pause as Ochaco, Kirishima and Shoto all imagined Toga's costume. The bunny ears on her hood. The teeth pattern on her mask. The green. "Oh," they all gasped together as Toga made a disappointed sound.
"Great, no one got it."
"You could always change it," Izuku muttered as Katsuki nodded.
"I'm sure my parents could lend a hand. Might actually put a sense of style in you."
"Hey! I'm super stylish." Toga kicked Katsuki as they started arguing before an alarm cut them off.
Chapter 20: Intruder
Chapter Text
Tenko fidgeted as he waited for Nezu to finish reading. Nezu slowly put the file down, looking at Tenko. "So, why do you want to work here?"
Tenko blinked. "I don't."
There was a long pause before Nezu looked at him. "You probably shouldn't tell me that."
Tenko blushed a little, hanging his head. "I mean, it's not my intention to work at UA- I thought I was still being employed by Thirteen."
Nezu hummed. "Thirteen will remain your primary employer, but all our teachers, assistant teachers and hero-based staff are employed by UA, even your mentor Thirteen." Tenko made a small sound as Nezu sighed. "Very well, why do you want to join the Unforeseen Situations Team?"
Something lit up behind Tenko's eyes. "Because Thirteen said working with patrol heroes at the USJ interferes with her teaching."
Nezu didn't respond for a second. "Go on."
"When I was a student, Thirteen's class was the first time I ever learnt about Rescue Heroes, but all those classes are so rare. I'd only get to take a rescue class once or twice a term, and when we were taking those classes, other students just didn't take it seriously. Especially because Thirteen was the only rescue hero teaching us. All the other teachers supervising just never knew anything or didn't see the value in it."
Nezu nodded, unable to say anything before Tenko started talking again.
"It's ridiculous that UA has like 20 patrol and front line heroes, like only 3 or 4 support heroes and 1 rescue hero on staff. The people who teach you change your views wildly. The students just aren't getting a chance to properly experience rescue heroism as an actual choice. It always puts Thirteen in a bad mood."
Nezu really wanted to correct Tenko on his figures, but again, didn't get a word in.
"The world is more in need of rescue heroes, but because of heroes like All Might, Endeavour, and my dad, most new heroes aren't even thinking about other career paths. Thirteen needs support and- though I don't like it- I'm becoming the face of Rescue Heroes, so I should use that where I can."
If Tenko had had time to reflect, he would probably have realised how unprofessional he had just been. Unfortunately, an alarm went off, preventing any further progress he might have made.
"I don't remember us doing invader drills."
Nezu stood up calmly. "Stay here."
Tenko watched the man leave. "I think this is going well."
~~~
The cafeteria erupted in panic. Students jumped to their feet and dashed for the exit, screaming at one another.
"Is this real?" Ochaco gasped as Toga and Izuku shared a look.
"We should assume it is. Better prepared than not," Izuku answered as Toga made an annoyed sound.
"I swear if this is real and dad didn't tell us, I'm gonna punch him."
The group attempted to follow the crowd. They regretted that choice almost immediately. The students shoved against each other.
Toga grabbed Ochaco, holding onto her arm tightly as they were pushed against the other students.
Shoto did his best to shield Izuku from the violent behaviour. He wasn't doing very well, and they were pinned against the window.
No one could really see Katsuki, but they could sure hear him. "Stop fucking touching me!"
"This is bad," Shoto muttered as he felt someone crash into his back. "Someone's going to get hurt."
Izuku nodded as he tried to remember what his uncle told him. 'If anyone ever breaks into the house. Hide and call me. If they find you, become horror monsters and put the fear of hell in them.' It wasn't the most useful advice.
Izuku glanced outside. Maybe if they could find whoever was doing this, they could at least prepare. Izuku froze. He saw a large group of people outside the front gate, all pushing mics into Aizawa, Present Mic and Oboro's faces.
It was the fucking press.
"Toga! Katsuki! It's not a villain."
"It's not?" Katsuki grumbled as Toga made a scream.
"It's a terrorist?!"
Izuku was sure Toga was panicking more people than the alarm was. "No! It's the press!"
"That's worse," she shouted back. If Izuku had been anywhere near her, he would have slapped her.
Izuku glanced around. "Katsuki, throw me!"
"I'm a bit busy- hey, careful asshole!" Katsuki pushed a member of the student body away from him and the two girls who had latched onto him. Mina wasn't sure if this was the best choice she could have made, but at least Jiro wasn't being trampled.
Izuku looked up at Shoto. Shoto really didn't want to throw his friend. "Fine, but I don't think I'll be able to get you to the door." Not without breaking a bone, but he wasn't telling Izuku that.
"Izuku," Ochaco called out, jumping in the air a little and throwing her hands in the air.
Shoto took a deep breath, picking Izuku up and throwing him with as little of his might as he could. Izuku let out a startled cry as he was launched across the room. He felt Ochaco's hands slap him on the way before he hit the wall above the door.
"Fuck, too much might," Shoto muttered as Izuku peeled off the wall.
He floated for a moment before grabbing onto the piping above him and planting his heels on the framing. With all his years of screaming at his family, Izuku screamed with the power of a sleep-deprived mother who just found out her husband decided to sleep with her sister. "Everybody shut the hell up!" The students faltered, staring up at him in a mix of confusion and shock. "There is no danger. The press has gotten into the school, but the heroes are handling it. Now get yourselves organised before you kill someone, before you're too headless to think for five minutes."
There was a long, awkward pause before the lines began moving again. Students walked slowly, calmly and a little disheartenedly towards the exit.
Shoto stood under the door frame. "Need a hand?"
Izuku made a small sound as he let go, falling into Shoto's arms with a little blush. "Thanks."
Shoto smiled, feeling ridiculously proud of himself for catching Izuku.
"You can put him down now," Toga joked as she watched Izuku turn bright red. He scrambled out of Shoto's arms and whacked his cousin.
"You caused so much unnecessary panic."
"That wasn't my fault. Everyone was already panicked!"
~~~
Deku skidded as he turned around the corner, slamming the door to the storage room wide open. For a moment, the mist man froze, staring at him. Then Deku screamed and ran at him. The portal swirled around the man, and he was gone before Deku could land a punch. "Fuck."
Chapter 21: Declaration
Chapter Text
Deku ignored the lines of students lined up outside the school as he approached the entrance. Nezu had put the scariest-looking guys at the entrance to try to deter anyone from getting in. Unfortunately for him, he didn't anticipate that 'anyone' being the hero Dice Roll, who both stood taller than Vlad and was not taking no for an answer.
"I have two kids and a husband in this school, I'm coming in."
"Both your kids were scarier than the intruders, as is our husband," Vlad muttered as Deku chuckled.
"Is that so?"
Vlad was glad that years of teaching had given him the skill to remain completely neutral when caught off guard.
"Hey, boss, look at this." Ryo was kneeling down at the entrance, dipping her fingers in ash. "Do you know how hot metal has to come before you reach incineration? It's a miracle so little of the barrier was left undamaged."
"And that no one was hurt," Tsutsumi agreed as Vlad made an annoyed shout.
"Stop touching the crime scene! Why are you all even here? Did you know this was going to happen?!"
"Of course not," Tsutsumi stated, giving him an offended look. "I just came to wish my nephew well in his interview."
"I came to make fun of him for failing said interview," Ryo stated as Deku gave Tsutsumi a look.
"Since when were we related?"
"Well, you wouldn't make me his godmother."
Vlad wasn't sure what was happening, but he was sure he didn't want to know.
"Is everyone alright?" Akari interrupted as Deku nodded.
"I saw Toga arguing with Katsuki and Izuku, and Tenko was beside Midnight, chatting her ear off about fire safety drills. They're all unharmed."
Akari nodded softly, letting out a small sigh of relief. "You know what this means."
"I know."
Vlad blinked in confusion. "I don't. What does this mean?"
"We should prepare the network," Tsutsumi stated as Ryo stood up.
"What network?"
"I want to do some tests on this ash."
"I'll arrange it with Nezu."
Vlad was fairly sure these people were ignoring him. "No, this is my crime scene, I'm preserving it."
Deku took Akari's hands softly. "I should check on the kids," he paused, "and save Midnight. I'll call you when it's over."
"You better." Akari leaned in, kissing his husband as Tsutsumi made a soft sound.
"Aww. They're being gay."
"Stop that! I need you to tell me what's happening," Vlad demanded as Tsutsumi pulled a face.
"What's happening is he's kissing his husband."
"Yeah, don't be homophobic." Ryo high-fived Tsutsumi as Vlad gave up. This was the end of his involvement. This was Nezu's problem now.
Toga was pulling Katsuki's hair. "Apologise!"
"Never!"
"Shouldn't you try to stop them?" Ochaco muttered as Izuku hummed.
"The assembly is over. I'm not gonna lose my limbs for their dumb argument."
"It's not dumb," they both shouted together as Izuku rolled his eyes.
"Toga, are you alright?" Deku interrupted, walking over. He put his hands on her shoulders as she let Katsuki go.
"I'm fine, Dad." She tried to scramble away from his attention, but Deku was not relenting. Time for Toga's patented preferred method of getting away. "Izuku threw himself at a wall." She threw someone under the bus."
Deku turned to Izuku as he scratched the back of his neck. "It was intentional." Deku did not find that comforting. "The students were panicking, and I needed to get above them for them to hear me."
Deku smiled a little. Guess some things remained the same- though he thought Tenya was the one who did that last time? Maybe his memory was getting fuzzy.
"People are staring at us," Katsuki scowled as Deku glanced around. Most of the student body was staring at them.
Toga blinked before she grinned. That was a bad idea. "Whatcha looking at?" Half the students looked around. Half stared even more. "Never seem a successor before?!" She could tell she was confusing people.
Katsuki and Izuku just wanted her to shut up.
"That's right. I'm Deku's daughter, and I'm the one who's going to take his mantle! I'll see you losers at the sports festival!"
Deku wasn't sure whether he should be proud, worried or crying. He chose to pat Toga on the head instead. "You'll do well." He started to turn away before he froze. "Oh! That's why your mask looked that way."
Toga blushed a little, unaware of how relieved Deku was. Toga wasn't becoming her villainous self; she just couldn't draw.
Deku joined the other heroes, ignoring the harsh look All Might was shooting him as he approached his other kid. "You alright, Tenko?"
Tenko blinked, looking up at him. "Yep!"
Deku looked past him, glancing at Midnight. "Are you alright?" She wasn't able to give him a positive response. Deku probably should have warned people about this, but he thought they had learned after his time as a student. "How did the interview go?"
"Well! I think Nezu liked my insights."
From years of teacher-parent conferences, Deku knew that meant it went horribly, and Tenko definitely didn't answer the question he should have without insulting someone. He patted Tenko's shoulder and prayed the villain threat might have distracted Nezu enough to just give Tenko decent feedback.
~~~
Deku walked Tenko down the street to a local hero agency. "Hey there, Hori, mind if we use the elevator?"
The receptionist lifted his head as he jumped. "Mr Deku! Yes- Robin isn't here right now, but Eagle is downstairs already."
Deku nodded as he led Tenko to the elevator. The second they were out of sight, Hori sighed heavily, putting a hand on his chest. "He's so tall."
"Dude," the other receptionist gave Hori a disapproving look as Hori gulped, about to apologise, "you shouldn't have asked for his autograph!"
"Fuck. I should have. I can't believe we just met Deku!"
"We just met Deku!"
The two receptionists started laughing and cheering wildly before their manager cleared their throat. "Remember your contracts."
"'If we meet Deku or any of the other high-ranking heroes, we must remain professional and not freak out."
The manager nodded before they walked away. Hori glanced at his colleague. "I can't be the only one who thought that clause was ridiculous when I signed it."
~~~
Tenko glanced around the elevator. "Do heroes only know one elevator? I swear this is the same one in your agency… and in Thirteens."
Deku grinned. "It is. I only trust one company to build the basements and elevators."
"That's… that's very specific."
Deku gave him an odd look. "Listen, when you're building a secret base for a secret network of heroes, you've gotta be sure you can trust the people building it."
Tenko blinked, opening and closing his mouth. "Wait, Thirteen is in the hero network?"
Deku didn't respond as the elevator dinged open. He walked out into the large open space. Like Deku's own basement, it had a large conference room in the middle and rows of people searching CCTV, police and crime reports and social media.
On the back wall was a conference call of heroes across Japan. "Alright, everyone, calm down," Akari tried, but he wasn't heard over the many other people talking.
Deku walked forward, whistling a single note and making everyone shut up. "Listen, today UA was broken into. They will tell the public it was reporters; however, we know it is something else, a sign of something much greater. Today, we learned for certain that the League of Villains is coming to fruition. We need to find them and stop them before things escalate."
The heroes muttered as Deku leaned over the desk.
"So, Pledge, what did you learn?"
Chapter 22: Rabbit Ears
Chapter Text
Shoto looked around the beach, and he found a place to sit. Last time he was here, this place was a dump. People used to throw almost anything here, from old appliances to old trucks.
Shoto hesitated before he pulled out his phone and took a picture, sending it to Izuku. Well, Izuku, Toga, Katsuki, Ocacho and Kirishima.
He might have clicked the wrong chat.
'That's so pretty! Much nicer than my view!!!' Kirishima texted back with a photo of a brick wall and a pull-up bar.
'gym' Ochaco asked.
'Hell yeah!!!'
'match'. Ochaco sent a picture of a slightly nicer gym, by which Shoto meant indoors.
'Why are you all up?' Toga typed in, only legible due to auto-correct.
'Nothing beats a morning gym session before school!!!!' Kirishima answered before getting a text from Ochaco.
'my gym has a shower and I needed it'
'You could always use my shower~' Toga joked.
'Toga!' And finally, the person Shoto wanted to talk to showed up. 'That's a really nice photo, Shoto :D'.
'Was that from Shoto? I thought that was one of Kacchan's. He's like got a hundred pretty pictures of sunrises on that beach'.
'NO I DON'T!!!!' And Katsuki was awake.
'you know the beach' Ochaco asked as Izuku rushed to answer before Toga.
'Uncle Deku was the one to clean it up.'
'Dad used to torture us there'
'Toga!'
'What it's true'
There was a level of confusion from the others in the catch, but they all agreed it was too early to deal with whatever that was.
"Young Himura!" All Might grinned, waving at Shoto excitedly. "Good morning."
"Is it good? It just feels early." All Might laughed, parting Shoyo's shoulder. "Ow."
All Might sat down next to Shoto, staring at the beach.
"Why did you want to meet before the light of day?"
"Well, I needed to talk to you and didn't think it would happen at school or with the watchful eyes of the public." All Might smiled as Shoto waited for him to continue. "Listen, I want you to stop hanging out with the Deku children."
Shoto blinked slowly. "No."
All Might coughed in surprise. "No?"
"No."
"Listen, those kids are dangerous. They could hurt you or kidnap you. I don't want to see you getting attacked because they're taking advantage of you."
Shoto frowned deeply. "Why do you hate Deku so much?"
"It's complicated. It's just- Deku- he's a villain. I know he's a villain. Deku isn't a part of our hero society, and he shouldn't have ever been allowed to join us."
Shoto thought for a long time. He tried to recall what Katsuki, Toga and Izuku had played. Oh, so he was homophobic. "You shouldn't think that. Gay people are just people."
"What?" All Might blinked, hoping for Shoto to say something, anything, but nothing came.
"I need to go to school." Shoto stood up as All Might rapidly climbed to his feet.
"Wait, I feel like we need to talk about this."
"No, we don't. Gay people are people. Any other opinion is wrong. That's what mum says."
All Might really wanted to shout that he had no clue why Shoto thought he was homophobic. Luckily, his media training kicked in first. "As she should. Gay people are people."
"Right."
"Right?"
"So your problem with Deku should be solved now. Bye, All Might." Shoto was already gone by the time All Might managed to process the conversation.
"My problem with Deku has nothing to do with him being gay! I'm half gay!"
~~~
Izuku grinned as he leaned against the bus, scanning through his notes.
Shoto looked over his shoulder, watching quietly as words streamed rapidly. "You should add diagrams."
"It would take up too much space."
"But it would be prettier."
Izuku snorted as he closed the hologram. "Alright, people, the bus is leaving in a couple of minutes, so get in line. Toga! Katsuki! Stop fighting!"
"No! He insulted the hood!" Toga wined as she pulled Katsuki into a choke hold.
"Because it's dumb!"
"How dare you! It's for my dad! It's for Deku!"
"It's rabbit ears!"
Izuku sighed deeply, turning to his vice rep. "Don't suppose you could give me an iron pole."
Yaoyorozu blinked in shock. "No!"
"Shame. Guess I'm doing this the hard way." Izuku pushed up his sleeves as he walked over, grabbing Toga's collar and Katsuki's arm and pulling them apart. "If you don't stop fighting, I'll tell Aizawa to leave you behind."
"You don't have that power," Katsuki scoffed as Toga stuck out her tongue.
"Do you really want to test me? Don't forget I could always tell our classmates what happened two Christmases ago."
Suddenly, Katsuki and Toga both stood at attention.
"Better. Toga front of line. Katsuki back."
They both grumbled as they got into place. Izuku watched them leave as Yaoyorozu walked over. "Keeping them separated? Sounds sensible."
"Well, that and I'm hoping Kirishima and Uraraka will keep them quiet during the drive." Izuku grinned as he heard the bus start up. "Better not miss the bus, what a disappointment that would be."
~~~
Toga burst out of the bus the second it parked. "Freedom! Seatbelts off! I can move!"
"You didn't put your seatbelt on," Izuku scolded as Toga gave him a look.
"I would survive a crash."
Izuku rolled his eyes as Katsuki scoffed. "Well, she can't get anymore brain damage."
Toga blinked slowly. "Hey! I'm no' brain damaged!"
"That's not how any of those words are meant to be used," Izuku muttered as Toga went to punch him, only for someone to grab her collar.
"Toga! Stop that."
Toga froze a little before glancing over. "What the fuck are you doing here?"
Tenko gave Toga a strange look. "Don't swear." This was the first time Toga had really seen Tenko out in his hero work. He looked ridiculous. He had a large white cloak on with the family Deku's "rabbit ears". He had a black sleeveless one-piece suit, matching white gloves and boots and a red tactical belt.
"You look like someone's poor attempt to draw Grandma Nana's hero costume."
Tenko's eye twitched, but before he could say anything, Ochaco pushed her way to the front. "It's Dust Bunny!"
"That's- that's still not my name," Tenko sighed as Toga laughed.
"Give it up, crusty, it's your name now," Katsuki snorted as Tenko shook his head.
"Morning, everyone," Thirteen greeted as Ochaco made another excited sound.
"It's Thirteen!"
Toga chuckled a little. Yes, she definitely remembered who that was.
"Good morning, Toga, Izuku." Thirteen paused, looking at Katsuki. "Kathinki." Katsuki scowled as Toga and Tenko snickered.
Ochaco turned, staring at Toga. "Why didn't you tell me you knew these heroes?"
Toga made a dismissive sound. "Tenko isn't that impressive."
Ochaco didn't look convinced as Izuku rolled his eyes. "Tenko is her brother."
Ochaco blinked slowly. "What?!"
Chapter 23: Danger
Chapter Text
Izuku stepped back as Ochaco continued shaking Toga. "Why didn't you tell me?!"
Katsuki rolled his eyes as he scoffed. "How didn't you put this together? I thought her gay ass turned into Tenko to save you from the zero-pointer."
Ochaco blinked slowly. "Oh my god, you did!"
Toga simply chuckled, hugging Ochaco a little. Mostly to restrain her, but Toga was just enjoying the hug anyway. "I'm sorry. I never realised you looked up to that idiot. He's so pathetic-" Toga let out a yelp as Tenko threw a rock at her. "Rude!"
"Don't insult me and I won't need to correct yo-" Tenko didn't get to finish before Toga tackled him.
"Oh, so she does that with all her siblings," Kaminari muttered as Katsuki and Izuku nodded.
"She once tried on Deku and got put on the high shelf of shame for the crime," Katsuki stated seriously as Izuku hummed.
"I don't get the high shelf. Most of his kids can easily get down, and Kazu likes climbing on the ceiling."
"I thought Kazu had a low shelf of shame."
"No, that's just table Toga broke. He borrows into it sometimes."
"Fucking spider."
Izuku looked at Tenko and Toga for a moment before deciding they could keep fighting for a bit longer before he actually needed to break them up. He turned his attention to Shoto.
Shoto had ignored pretty much everything Toga was doing. Like most people who knew Toga, he was getting very good at that skill. Shoto instead was watching Aizawa and Thirteen whisper.
"Everything okay?" Izuku tapped Shoto's side, peering past at the heroes but not getting much as their conversation finished.
"Yeah. I think All Might is mad at me."
Izuku paused. "No, probably Deku just said hi to him, and now he's screaming into the skyscrapers." Izuku grinned, completely unaware of Shoto's greater problem. "I'm sure he'll show up once he's decided Uncle Deku's not planning to blow up the school or something dumb like that."
Shoto nodded slowly, though he didn't believe it.
Thirteen cleared her throat, stepping forward as Tenko stopped choking his sister. Thirteen didn't say anything, but Tenko quickly dropped Toga and rushed to her side. "Before we start, I have one or two points. Or three…. Four…” Tenko cleared his throat as Thirteen snapped back to attention. "My Quirk is called Black Hole. It can suck in and tear apart anything. My sidekick here, his Quirk is Distregrate."
Tenko nodded as he looked over the children before him. "I can turn anything I touch to dust and from that dust, anything it touches as well."
A couple of the students pulled faces as Toga scoffed. "Cowards." She pulled herself up and rejoined the ranks, rubbing her neck slightly as she did.
"Our powers could easily kill. I've no doubt there are some among you with similar abilities. In our superpowered society, the use of Quirks is heavily restricted and monitored. It may seem that this is a stable one, but we must never forget that it only takes one wrong move with an uncontrollable quirk for people to die."
Tenko looked down a little, avoiding the eyes of the students. Even Toga grew self-conscious for a moment, all too aware of the shit Deku stopped her from doing as a kid.
"During Aizawa's physical fitness test, you came to learn of your own hidden potential. Through All Might and Deku's battle training, you experienced the danger that your respective Quirks can pose to others. This class will show you a new perspective. You will learn how to utilise your Quirks to save lives."
Tenko actively grew more excited as Thirteen gave him the nod. "Through the USJ training, you'll be able to learn how to use what you've been taught to fear about your powers to save more people in need than any patrol hero could. You'll get the chance to realise new uses and features you never thought of due to their lack of combat-ability, and you'll be given the chance to better understand how your body and Quirk respond to different environments."
"And most important," Thirteen interrupted, "you will leave today with the understanding that you're meant to help people, no matter the shape that takes. Thank you for listening." Thirteen and Tenko bowed as the students clapped.
Aizawa hummed a little. That boy was going to be annoying; he just knew it. "Great, first off-"
"I got a question," Toga interrupted as Tenko gave her a glare.
"Toga, don't interrupt your teachers."
"Sure, sure, but who's that?" Toga pointed past the heroes down into the plaza, where a purple cloud had formed. From it, hordes of people stepped out.
"Cool, they got fake villains," Kaminari cheered as Izuku got into a fighting stance.
"No. I know the H.U.C actors and the F.V.C actors, and those aren't any of them."
"And they're not any hero I know of," Toga stated as she too got ready for a fight.
"Like you know heroes," Katsuki scoffed, though he too was ready.
The last of the horde stepped out, in the centre, a single man covered in scar tissue. Metal clips held his skin together. "Good evening," he greeted coldly before his eye twitched a little.
"Fuck." Tenko had a couple more swears ready, but he decided to save those for when someone starts dying.
"Thirteen, protect the students," Aizawa ordered as he jumped off the platform.
"Everyone out, now!" Thirteen ordered, giving Tenko another nod as he rushed forward. He placed his hands on the ground, and as the second Aizawa reached the bottom, he destroyed the stairs.
They crumbled away as a cliff face formed between the villains and students. At the top, a 10-foot height drop.
"There are so many," Ochaco muttered. Like most of the students, she wasn't moving. "Aizawa-sensei is going to be beaten."
"Hey, trust the heroes," Toga ordered, taking Ochaco's hand. "Aizawa knows what he's doing." Ochaco stared at Toga in confusion, but the girl was already pulling her to the door.
"Tenko, get the bus door open. Kaminari, see if you can spark the engine," Izuku ordered as he too pulled Shoto into moving.
"Stop pulling your feet, assholes! Move," Katsuki belted, his palms popping with little explosions.
Tenko dug his feet in, stopping just as the purple cloud formed, blocking the exit. "Greetings, we are the League of Villains."
"Shit," Tenko shouted this time, getting an odd, displeased look from the living cloud.
"Forgive our audacity, but today we've come here to U.A. High School, this bastion of heroism, to end the lives of All Might, the Symbol of Peace, and Deku… the other one."
"Hey, don't diss my dad," Toga shouted, pointing at the cloud foolishly.
"We were under the impression that those heroes would be here today, but it seems their schedule was revised? Well, no matter. My role remains unchanged-"
Katsuki and Toga were both done with his talking. They jumped at the mist. Katsuki tried to blow it to kingdom come while Toga actively tried to stab it, more out of habit than any actual plan.
The mist pulled back a little as Izuku flicked the whip out. That one, it really had to dodge. It moves back and higher, not reacting fast enough to dodge Tenko's attack. Tenko hit the baton straight into what would be his rips if he still had them, though. The impact connected, Tenko felt that, and the mist reacted, falling back.
"Woo, only three attacks. Normally, it takes a longer rally for us to actually land the first hit," Toga cheered creepily as Katsuki rolled his eyes.
"That's 'cause you don't learn like the rest of us."
Toga had to remind herself that they were in the middle of an attack, and correcting Katsuki was not worth dying for.
Tenko looked back at Thirteen and the rest of the students for a moment. When he returned his focus to the villain, it had expanded exponentially. "Damn it."
The purple-black mist fell around the group. One moment, they were standing at the entrance; the next, they were dropping out of the sky.
Toga let out a startled scream as she saw the blue water approaching. Within her moment of panic, she swung out the needle system, catching it on the railing of the ship. Splash. Splash. Toga groaned as the tubing stopped her fall suddenly, mere inches above the water. She stared at the sky for a moment before turning, looking at her reflection in the water.
"I don't remember looking that fishy." Toga snapped her head to the side as she heard someone launch out of the water. The half-shark, half-man lunged at her as Toga quickly pulled herself up. She rushed up the side of the boat and crawled onto the deck before looking back at the water. A lot of villains had surfaced. "Oh, that's bad."
Not far away, Katsuki dropped into a building, harshly landing on his back. He slowly sat up before jumping to his feet. There were a lot of villains staring at him. Behind him, Kirishima groaned, also not doing super well from the teleport. "Hey, word of advice, mate, either stay down, or get up now. Once this fight starts, you don't get to choose the other."
Kirishima blinked slowly, taking note of the other villains. For a moment, he didn't move, but then he raised himself to his feet. He took in a breath as he copied Katsuki. "No way am I staying down."
"Correct choice," Katsuki smirked before he charged.
The first thing that hit Izuku was the rain. Fucking freezing. The next thing that hit him was a dumpster. Izuku slowly sat up, pulling a face at the garbage bags. "Are these just old books?" He slowly pulled himself up, looking around.
"Midoriya! Are you okay?!" Mina called out as she and Tokoyami ran down the fire exit of a nearby building.
"Yeah. I think I missed the roof, though," Izuku started climbing out of the bin when he jumped back. The ice shattered against the metal as the villain laughed. "I really wish I'd landed on that roof."
Other students were dropped around the USJ, but only one person fell into the plaza. Tenko managed to land on his feet, though he wasn't sure that was a good thing with how his ankles responded. He could hear Aizawa fighting against the villains not far away, but when he went to look, he found a large bird blocking the view.
"Tenko Midoriya," the leader of the league hissed. "We should talk."
Tenko pulled his lips into a line as he looked between the two villains. "Bollocks."
Chapter 24: Power Up
Chapter Text
Toga pulled herself up, grabbing onto the railing and leaping onto the deck. She looked around, watching the villains swimming through the water. She swung her needle back into her hand as she heard something breach the water. Before she swung at the figure, she stopped. She knew that person.
Tsu landed on the deck, holding Koda in her tongue. “Are you both alright?”
Tsu dropped Koda on the deck as the boy muttered too fast and too quietly for Toga to bother listening to. “I’m peachy. You get much of a look at what’s down there?”
Toga made a sound. “Lots of villains.”
“Blunt much.” Toga looked across the lake as different villains started to lift their heads.
“I didn’t see any other students,” Tsu stated as Toga nodded.
“I only heard two splashes. Assuming someone didn’t magically manage to fall into the water at the exact same time as either of you, we’re all accounted for.”
Tsu joined Toga, looking over the water. “They’re not coming up here.”
“Something tells me shark boys and water manipulators want to stay as close to the water as they can. It’s what Yume does.” Toga sighed. “7 areas…”
“What?”
Toga shook her head a little. “If you count the plaza, there are 7 areas in this building. Tenko, Thirteen and Aizawa bring the total number of students to 23. That’s 3 per area.”
Tsu vaguely remembered a word of advice they got from Izuku and Katsuki. It’s never a good sign when Toga does maths.
“That means everyone will be together. We should stay back and wait for the heroes,” Koda stated calmly as Toga pulled a face.
“Why the hell would you even suggest that?”
Koda stumbled back fearfully. “We’re just students, and we don’t know how many villains there are.”
Toga tutted angrily. “So we should just sit around. Listen here rocky, my family is out there. My brother. My cousins. I’m not going to sit around here while they could be getting killed. Family comes first.”
Somehow, neither Tsu nor Koda found that to be a particularly moving reason for them to risk their lives.
Tsu sighed. “It won’t matter if we can’t get off this boat.”
Toga nodded slowly. “It’s a shame Yume’s not older. He’s been learning to control water external to his body. Don’t suppose either of you has good Quirks for this place?”
“My Quirk makes me good in water, but I don’t think that’ll help either of you.”
Toga hummed, looking at Koda until he gave in. “I can control animals…”
Toga blinked slowly. “Like total control?”
He nodded slowly, nervously. “It only works if they can hear me.”
Toga grinned, looking out at the sea. “I think they can hear you-”
“It doesn’t work on people,” Koda interrupted panickingly. “They have to be animals, not animal-like, animals.”
Toga gave Koda a weird look. “People are animals.”
Koda looked stunned. “It doesn’t work on people. We’ve tested it.”
Toga hummed, unconvinced. She sat down as she thought hard. “Does it work on dolphins?”
Koda, again, looked stunned. “I’ve never tried.”
“Really, if I could control animals, I would walk around every zoo possible just seeing what I could control. Even just for the videos.” Toga grinned while Koda gave her a look. “Fine, what’s the smartest animal you’ve actually controlled?”
Koda gave her a confused look as Tsu shook her head. “Is this important?”
“Yes. Tell me, what’s the smartest thing you’ve controlled?”
“I think… a parrot.”
“And was that easier than say controlling your average dumb creature… like a cow?”
“I’ve never controlled a cow.”
“Seriously? You lead a boring life.”
Tsu made a small sound. “Why not just ask him if controlling a smarter animal is more difficult?”
“That’s boring too. But that.”
Koda didn’t answer for a moment. He had never thought about it before. “I wasn’t able to control the parrot the first time.” Toga tilted her head. “It belonged to my neighbour. It wasn’t until I was 13 that I could control it.”
“So yes?” Koda nodded as Toga grinned. “Great. I’ve got a plan.”
“It won’t work on people. Even if it was a power thing, I can’t do that now, and there is no way all the villains will be able to hear me from under the water.”
For once, Toga listened to another. She looked up as she grinned. Before she could announce her plan, the ship was cut in half. Koda screamed as Tsu stuck to the deck. Toga grabbed the railing as she pulled herself up.
The villains kept shouting stuff at each other as Toga tutted. They might have just ruined her perfect plan. “Hey, rocky-”
“It’s Koda-”
“-Don’t care. Does your Quirk work over speaker?”
Koda nodded. “My speakers aren’t loud enough-” Koda made a sound as Toga grabbed him and pulled him towards ship control.
She looked around. If she were Katsuki, she would methodically work through the buttons until she found the one she needed. If she were Izuku, she would look up the answer or analyse the situation to find the right button on the first try. But she was Toga. That meant she was slapping the buttons half-hazardly until the speaker system screeched to life. “Haha! Suck on that scientific method!”
“I told you, my Quirk doesn’t work like that.”
“Oh, it will.” Toga pulled out the vial, downing a good portion of the blood. Her form began to change into one none of her classmates had seen yet. Before Koda was now an 8-year-old boy with a noticeable missing tooth and small band-aids on his cheek and elbow. “Alright, let’s get started.”
Toga lifted her hands, placing them on Koda’s thigh, cursing her tiny height. They both began to glow. Toga glowed a deep blue, while Koda began to glow a soft orange. He looked at her and himself in confusion.
“You know, this isn’t easy to do. Mind hurrying up.”
Koda gulped. “It doesn’t-”
“Just fucking do it.”
There were a couple of special powers 8-year-olds had. One was the ability to shock every adult in the room by using big words. The other was getting every adult to do stuff by swearing them into submission, though very few knew of that power.
Koda took in a breath before he began to shout through the microphone. “Villains, stop what you are doing! Stop attacking the boat. Don’t panic and walk out of the lake towards the back of the USJ and wait there for further orders!”
On the deck, Tsu jumped as she looked up at the speakers. “That is one stubborn girl.” Much to her and Koda’s surprise, the villains began to do exactly as ordered, swimming out of the lake and walking to the back of the dome.
“Fuck yeah, I told you that would work,” Toga cheered, still as her younger brother.
“I don’t understand. I don’t do that,” Koda muttered, leaning against the still-sinking ship.
“You should never doubt my power…. Or rather, Ieyoshi’s power. Super dooper power.”
Koda did not look pleased. After a moment, Tsu gave in. “What is his power?”
“Power Up!” Toga grinned before she chuckled to herself. “Or that’s what we call it. Officially, it’s called ‘Quirk Amplifier’, but that’s so boring. He can increase the power levels of anyone he touches.” Toga slowly melted back to herself. “That said, he can’t stop this boat from sinking, so I guess we should go.” Toga looked at the water. “Froggy, don’t suppose your jump is good enough, I don’t want to ruin my makeup.”
Tsu gave her a look as she sighed. “I didn’t think so.”
~~~
Toga made a specific point to not look in the water as she came to the shore. She was certain her makeup was running. She was going to look like she had just been broken up with, and that wasn’t the vibe she was going for.
She stopped as she saw the villains in the central plaza. The leader was squatted down, placing a foot on Aizawa’s head, pushing the hero into the dirt. The leader was giving him a running commentary on the fight in front of him, where a big bird was fighting Tenko.
The bird swung at Tenko as he ducked under the fist. He hit the baton into the creature’s abdomen before kicking his knee at the birds’ beak. The bird didn’t move; instead, it grabbed Tenko by the waist, digging its claws in before throwing Tenko across the plaza.
Toga’s eyes widened as she went to run after him. She didn’t get out of the water before Tsu and Koda grabbed her. “Let go of me! Tenko!”
The leader turned his head slowly. “Oh, it’s the other spawn. I was wondering what happened to you. You were meant to be brought to me.”
Toga growled angrily. “Leave my brother alone. Only I get to beat him up!”
The villain scoffed. “How kind.”
“Who the hell even are you?”
The villain tilted his head slightly. “Me? Call me Dabi.”
Toga thought for a moment. “Yeah, no. I’m gonna call you a bitch!” She grinned aggressively as Dabi’s eye twitched. Flames began to dance along his skin, but before he could do anything, the main door was thrown open.
“I am here! Only 20 minutes late!” All Might paused, blinking slowly. The villains stared back at him. All Might cursed in English as he caught sight of Thirteen trying to hover up a villain right in front of him. He cursed as he saw Aizawa being stomped into the ground, and he cursed as he saw Tenko pulling himself out of the ground.
Oh, he really should have gotten to work on time.
Chapter 25: Targets
Chapter Text
Deku sipped at his tea as he looked through the student's homework. They were supposed to be complex essays on different fighting styles and the impacts they have on hero work, but Deku thought that was boring and annoying. He told them to do the homework any way they wanted. This led to a complete flurry of video essays that was 50% hero clips, 20% movie clips and 30% the students doing poor attempts at the fighting style. He also got given a painting that he had no clue how to grade, 3 presentations that he had them give in front of the class and 2 complex essays that he was ignoring.
"I don't remember approving recording students," Nezu stated, popping up before Deku as he chuckled.
"I thought this was the school that let us do what we want?" He paused before he gave Nezu an actual answer. "It's their latest homework, exploring fighting styles. I told them they could present their findings in any way they pleased. This particular one is Mirio's analysis of American fighting styles on All Might. I almost want to award him a 100% mark just to watch All Might debate whether to continue keeping his entire life a secret or to shout about being trained in Japan."
Nezu decided to not comment on that. "Well, speaking of All Might, he phoned in. He was caught up fighting heroes this morning and is running late. Would you mind driving out to the USJ until he arrives?"
Deku slowly raised his eyebrow. "Did you spot the truck?"
"It was very poorly hidden."
"Well, you wouldn't let me hang out there."
"All Might was supposed to be there."
Deku sighed, standing up slowly. "I should never have let you assign All Might to the USJ." Deku grabbed his phone, calling Akari. He got in his car as the call ran out. That wasn't a good sign.
~~~
All Might was late. He was really late. Nezu was going to be pissed. After all the work he put into being assigned to the USJ, Nezu was never going to listen to him, no matter how many villains he stopped on the way.
As All Might entered UA, he paused. There was no point going to the office; Nezu would just lecture him, and he would miss the class anyway. He turned and started running towards the USJ.
He could suffer Nezu's lecture later.
Throwing open the door, All Might put on the brightest grin he had. "I am here! Only 20 minutes late!" All Might ignored the part of his brain that told him it was an hour if he added the preparation he was meant to do with Thirteen, too distracted by the many, many people inside that shouldn't be there.
He cursed in English as he saw Thirteen. She was using her Quirk on a mist-like villain that All Might had only seen once before. AFO's lackey.
He cursed again as he caught sight of Aizawa. A villain was standing on him, pushing him violently into the ground. Blood dribbled onto the rocks as his injuries got worse.
And he cursed as he saw Thirteen's sidekick, Deku's eldest child, standing amongst the villains. All Might knew that kid was involved. There was no way this wasn't Deku's fault. He made such an effort to be here because he knew. This was the only explanation.
The leader grinned excitedly, jumping off Aizawa and opening his arms towards All Might. "Symbol of Peace! It is wonderful for you to finally show up. Guess all the top heroes can't be bothered to stick to a schedule. Now we can kill you along with your students." He grinned as All Might's smile fell.
"Thirteen, get the students out." All Might jumped forward, missing Thirteen's cry, warning him that the students were scattered. He aimed right at the villain's face, but the hit never reached him.
The bird villain caught his punch.
"Nomu, kill him," Dabi ordered as the villain punched All Might backwards. Dabi grinned like a kid at Christmas as he watched the bird and All Might fight. He squatted back down, grabbing Aizawa's head and pulling him up slightly. "Look at this! Nomu, the perfect killer, against All Might, the perfect nobody. Who will win? I know who I've got my money on." He laughed insanely as the Nomu blocked the series of punches All Might rained down on him.
The villains all turned to look at the fight, staring in awe. Tenko glanced at them. If he had learned one thing being raised by the number 2 hero in Japan, it was when to duck down, use the fight as a distraction and quietly sneak away.
He stepped back, weaving through the villains, trying everything to not touch them. He wasn't as good at that.
He hit into a villain who snapped their attention to Tenko. "Where do you think you're going?"
"Me? I was just heading for a nap. Care to join?" The villain swung a knife at him. "I take that as a no."
And like that, Tenko's plan to quietly get to Aizawa was ruined as, one by one, the little villains stopped paying attention to the big fight and started to kill him.
The sudden change caught Dabi's attention as he scowled. "Quiet him up. I'm trying to watch the fight." He almost sounded like a spoiled kid mad that someone was interrupting their favourite show.
Toga scowled, about to say something as Tsu and Koda covered her mouth. "Are you insane?" Koda whisper-shouted, and they pushed Toga behind a rock.
"Are you?" she snapped back, pushing their hands off her. "That's my brother."
"And he can handle himself."
Toga did not look pleased with that. "What about Mr Aizawa. He doesn't look like he's handling it."
"We're not getting involved," Tsu stated. "The villain doesn't look like he has any intention of killing Aizawa, but he has said he will kill us. We're in greater danger."
"We're meant to be heroes. How can you call yourself one when you plan to stand on the sidelines when someone needs our help?"
"Please, Midoriya, if they've already been between Aizawa and are winning against Dust Bunny, what chance do we actually have?" Koda pulled at Toga's arm as she frowned.
They were right, but that didn't mean she was going to accept it. She went to respond when a large crashing sound interrupted them.
Mina and Tokoyami screamed as Izuku crashed the old, dinged-up car through the wall of the downpour zone. Izuku tried to avoid as many of the villains as he could as he hit the brakes.
A concerning number of these were still heard. The car spun, hitting the villain in front of Tenko before it came to a complete stop.
Izuku let out a shaky breath as he gulped before grinning at Mina in the front passenger seat. "Told you I could drive."
Chapter 26: Driving
Chapter Text
Mina screamed as she dodged the car falling from the sky. The villain laughed as he moved the water around him. “Where are you going, girlie?”
Mina didn’t answer him as she tumbled to the side. The villain got closer, raising water above his head, when something wrapped around his ankle. Izuku pulled back on his whip harshly, causing the villain to fall and smack his head into the ground.
Before he could get back up, Dark Shadow cooped under him and threw him into the back wall. Izuku motioned to Mina and Tokoyami as they hid behind the car. Izuku glanced around, waiting for another villain to appear, but nothing came out. “We need to get out of here. It’s impossible to know how many villains are hiding around each corner, and Mina’s acid isn’t working in the rain.”
Mina made a distressed sound, shivering as she rubbed her arms. “Not disagreeing, but do you see a way out of this. Every time we move, we get attacked.”
“I can protect us, but only to a point,” Tokoyami announced simply. “Dark Shadow is strong, but we won’t last long if we’re ganged up on.” Dark Shadow nodded as Izuku frowned. He tried glancing around the car again before he paused.
The car that had been thrown at Mina was on fire. The engine had exploded. That meant it had an engine. Izuku snuck past Tokoyami, opening the hood of the car they were hiding behind. It also had an engine. It looked functional.
“What are you looking at?” Tokoyami joined Izuku at the engine, more confused than anything.
“These cars are real. They’re old, probably old company cars they’re using to make these fights more realistic.”
“So,” Mina asked, rubbing her arms.
Izuku walked around her, pulling at the door of the car. Not surprisingly, it did not move. The car was locked. Surprisingly, though, that didn’t stop Izuku. He reached into his belt, pulling out a wire.
“Are you serious? Do you even know how to do that?” Mina hissed as Izuku paused.
“I know what I’m doing, but it’ll probably set the alarm off. Get ready to get in the car.” Before the other teens could ask any questions, Izuku forced the lock and threw open the door. The car alarm started immediately.
Izuku hopped in and opened the other doors. Mina climbed opposite him, but Tokoyami stayed outside. Izuku began ripping off part of the car, revealing the wires.
“Why are you doing this?!” Mina shouted as Izuku began messing with the wires.
“You wanted a way out.”
“You cannot be serious,” Tokoyami shouted back as he noticed a number of villains making their way over. “Do you even know how to drive?”
Izuku hummed, not that the other two could hear it. “A family friend taught me.” The car alarm shut off as the engine revved.
Mina made a concerned sound. “You’re 15. What practice could you have gotten?”
Izuku just grinned back. “Trust me. I know how to drive. Tokoyami, get in.” The boy didn’t move for a moment. “Or we can leave you behind.”
Tokoyami thought about it. Then a villain threw part of a wall at them. Izuku shot the car backwards, barely avoiding being crushed, while Tokoyami rolled to the side.
“Get in,” Izuku shouted again, spinning the car around as Mina leaned back and shoved the door open.
Tokoyami gritted his beak before jumping in. Izuku moved the gearbox before hitting the accelerator. The car burst forward as Izuku focused. He did know how to drive… forward… in a straight line with no obstacles. Corners were new territory. He swung the car around the people, trying to avoid the villains or their attacks.
“I see the door,” Mina cheered as Izuku spun the car sharply, causing her to hit the car door. At the end of the road, there was an emergency exit, a glowing green sign above it.
“We should get ready to go,” Tokoyami stated, moving to hold the door handle when Izuku put on the child lock. “Midoriya?”
“I suggest you hold on.” Izuku pushed the car forward faster as Mina started to scream.
“I don’t think this car is going to fit through the door,” Tokoyami shouted as Dark Shadow put on their seatbelt before putting on Mina’s. The girl was still screaming as she pulled at the door handle. “Midoriya! A car crash is worse than the villains,” Tokoyami tried as Izuku ignored him. “Midoriya!”
“I thought you said you could drive!” Mina screamed as she closed her eyes.
The wheels of the car spun, hitting half the door and half the wall of the enclosure, throwing the car into the plaza. Izuku shouted a curse as he saw the villains standing before them. He tried dodging as many as he could as he worked to gain control of the vehicle. “Shit,” Izuku shouted, spinning the car in a dizzying circle as he did everything in his power to not hit his cousin.
The car came to a sharp stop. No one inside it moved. Izuku grinned, turning to Mina. “Told you I could drive.”
Mina made a distressed sound, pawing at the door. It clicked open as Mina flopped to the side. She whacked the seatbelt until it released her, and she could collapse on the floor. “I’m going to throw up,” she complained, hunching over on herself.
“That was wicked,” Dark Shadow shouted energetically as he gave Izuku a thumbs-up.
Before Izuku could give him a thumbs up, too, the car door was thrown open, and Tenko yanked him out. “What were you thinking?!”
“I was escaping.”
“You were crashing! You weren’t even wearing a seatbelt! You could have died.”
“I was fine.”
“No, you weren’t! You were crashing!”
Izuku was certain this conversation was going in circles. Time to employ his go-to strategy. “Oh fuck off, you’re not my dad.”
Tenko looked shocked. Flabberghast. Absolutely insulted. “I am so telling Auntie Inko about this.”
Izuku suddenly regretted all his choices. He didn’t have a chance to defend himself when All Might was thrown to the ground behind them. The impact shook the car and blew Mina away.
The large villain stood over All Might as he stumbled back to his feet. Tokoyami slowly got out of the car as he too turned to look at All Might. The whole plaza was stunned into silence. All Might responded by grabbing the villain, flipping his body and slamming the villain into the ground, except the villain didn’t hit the ground.
The mist surrounded the villain and created a portal. The villain popped back up under All Might, stabbing his sides.
“Shit,” Tenko cursed, about to run towards him to help when the villains got in his way. “Fuck.” Tenko started thinking through other plans when Izuku kicked the first villain.
“What are you waiting for? Tokoyami, mind joining in?” Izuku turned, grabbing one villain by the hair and swinging her at the next one in the line. Tokoyami sent out Dark Shadow, batting away the villains and clearing a path for Tenko to move through.
Dabi scowled. “No fair. This is meant to be a one-on-one. I hate cheaters.” Dabi stepped off Aizawa, lifting his hand and pointing it at Tenko, and Izuku, and Tokoyami and all the villains in between. Blue fires built on his arm as he grinned. He would burn them all.
Bang.
There was a moment after the gunshot where no one moved, or at least it felt like it. Everyone turned to figure out who had taken the shot. No one expected the answer.
Dabi let out a scream as the bullet pierced through his leg. He turned. Lady Nagant stared back at him, her arm still bent from the shot. “Not my brother.” Toga wasn’t sure what blood she had pulled out before she took it. All she knew was she wasn’t letting that villain get closer to her family. He wasn’t going to hurt them.
Dabi raised his arm, the fire building again, but before he could do anything, another crashing sound echoed from the outer wall of the USJ. The van tumbled down the cliff side, doing a much better job at avoiding the human bodies than Izuku did. The van came to a stop in front of Dabi and Toga.
“I’m getting deja vu,” Koda muttered as he glanced around the rock.
The van door opened as Tsutsumi laughed. “Hey, someone’s broken into the off-limits stash.”
“Tsutsumi,” Toga cried out, as relief washed over her.
Akari made a small sound. “No cheers for us?” Toga didn’t respond as Deku laughed.
“Don’t worry, she appreciates you.”
Chapter 27: Rescuing
Chapter Text
Toga’s disguise melted off her as she let out a tired sound. Deku climbed out of the van as he looked across the plaza. Tenko was ignoring them, kicking the Nomu instead. All Might pulled himself free, giving Deku and the squad a dark look. Deku looked at Izuku and Tokoyami before looking at Tsu, Koda and Toga. All the kids seemed unharmed. That left the villain and Aizawa.
Aizawa looked shit.
Dabi looked excited.
“So it is him,” Akari muttered as Deku nodded.
“Pledge, you get Izuku and Tokoyami away from this fight. Lady Nagant, get Toga, Tsu and Koda. Akari, get Aizawa. I’ll deal with fire-boy.”
Dabi laughed. “Think you can handle me?”
Deku ignored him, turning and shouting to the side. “All Might, you got that bird guy?”
“You don’t tell me what to do.” All Might squared up his shoulders as Deku ignored him.
“Tenko, Thirteen is hurt. Go to her and get her stable.”
Tenko’s eyes widened, looking at the low-level villains before looking back at the entrance. He started running to his boss.
“Guess I’m dealing with the runts,” Risako laughed, jumping out of the van.
“Seems your speed,” Deku joked as Risako cracked her knuckles.
“You’re not wrong. See you on the other side,” Risako blew a kiss to Ryo before she charged into the crowd, kicking the first guy who had the misfortune to be in her way.
Ryo started weaving through the crowd, dodging around any attacks and punching the few assholes who actively tried to hurt them. “Izuku, Tokoyami, we need to get out of here.” Izuku glanced at Deku and Toga. Ryo snapped their fingers in his face. “Focus on me. We need to go.”
Ryo started pulling Izuku away when Izuku snapped his arm back. “Wait-”
“Izuku-”
“Mina!” Izuku looked around. “We were here with another person, Mina. She got blown away by All Might.”
Pledge glanced around. “I don’t see her.”
“She’s bright pink,” Tokoyami stated.
Izuku frowned before looking at Tokoyami. “Do you feel sick?”
He gave Izuku an odd look. “No, I am fine.”
“Mina was shivering, and she felt sick.”
“You are terrible at driving,” Dark Shadow stated as Tokoyami nodded.
“And we are all soaked.”
Izuku rolled his eyes. “We also all got dropped into the zone. Did you see her land?” Tokoyami shook his head a little. “She was weak. No one else was blown away by All Might.”
Izuku gave Ryo a look as they nodded. “We should find her. None of the villains is reacting to a body; she must be at one of the edges. Follow me and stay out of the fighting.” The boys nodded as they started making their way to the edges. Ryo tapped Izuku’s shoulder. “Did you really drive?”
“Just like how you taught me.” Izuku grinned as Ryo raised an eyebrow.
“I remember telling you to never get behind a wheel.”
~~~
Tsutsumi grabbed Toga, expecting her to resist, but the girl seemed to sag instead. “We should get you kiddos out.”
“We’re still missing Katsuki,” Toga stated weakly as Tsutsumi gripped her shoulder.
“We will find him, once the rest of you are safe. “Are you hurt?” Toga shook her head. Tsutsumi looked over Tsu and Koda as both shook their heads. “Good. Then stay down. I think Ryo popped a tyre on the way down, so we’re going to have to walk.”
“Katsuki-”
“Is in the ruins zone. He is with Kirishima, and he is fine. If we’re lucky, we’ll run into him on the way.”
Toga opened and closed her mouth. She nodded as Tsutsumi started pulling the students along. If things remained consistent to Deku’s memory, by now, Katsuki and Kirishima would be through the Ruins. Yaoyorozu, Jiro and Kaminari would be fighting the electricity villain and would be near the win, and Iida would be arriving at UA. She looked at Ryo as she pulled the boys to the side and looked at Risako, knocking out villain after villain with surprising efficiency.
All Might had returned to his fight with the Nomu, though almost insanely, it wasn’t the thing most people were drawn to. That was the standoff between Dabi, Deku and Akari.
“This fight is already over. Too many heroes are here for you to win,” Deku announced as Akari dropped a small item to the side. “Just give up, Aizawa, and we can talk lelancy.”
The mist appeared behind Dabi, glaring at Deku. “We should leave. You are hurt.”
“I’m not leaving.” Dabi swiped the mist away as he grinned insanely. “I came to kill these heroes, and I’m not leaving until I’ve done that.”
The fire burst out as Deku jumped over the attack. He fell with terrifying speed and punched the villain right in the face. Dabi flew back, skipping across the lake before sinking in.
“Efficient,” Akari muttered. “If I had known it was going to be that easy, I wouldn’t have wasted a roll.” Akari gently leaned before Aizawa, putting the neck collar on him before returning to the van. He was in the middle of pulling out the board when the lake blew apart. The water boiled, filling the air with the hot steam. “Shit.”
Akari rushed back to Aizawa. Deku helped him strap Aizawa down before Akari picked the board up by himself, holding it steady on his shoulder.
“Everyone, move out. Don’t let that touch you.”
Tsutsumi did not need to be asked twice, grabbing and throwing Tsu over her shoulders and pulling the other two by the hand. Risako cursed, letting go of the villain she was wrestling. “Star Whip, level 50.” The light burst from her hands, wrapping around the villains she had knocked out as she started pulling them up the hill.
A villain ran over, trying to grab the rope, but it only dissipated and reformed around them. The villain thought for a moment before picking Risako up and throwing her over his shoulder.
“Hey! I’m trying to save your buddies!”
“I know. Grab who you can! Get outside.” The villain grabbed another unconscious villain before pulling Risako up the hill, alongside all the villains she held. Villains began pulling at their comrades.
