Work Text:
Grian should have expected nothing less from the one good guy that had actually attempted to save him. He thought Werewolf convincing the Watcher to let him get healed by the Agency’s top healers was incredibly kind. He should’ve guessed that Werewolf was actually going to visit him as a possibility.
The day before, the nurses informed Grian that Werewolf was going to visit him, making Grian blink in surprise and Scar scowl through his mask. Grian can’t tell if it is because Scar is jealous or Scar just didn’t trust Werewolf.
Either way, Grian wanted to see him again to give Werewolf a proper thanks this time now that he is feeling better.
After the nurse left Grian can hear Scar letting out a long groan after hearing the news.
“Scar?”
“Just why is he visiting?” He makes a fist and stares daggers at the door. Yup, Grian has concluded, Scar is jealous—-and that jealousy might turn to violence.
Grian leans onto Scar’s shoulder and lets out an airy laugh. “You don’t need to be here if you feel uncomfortable around Werewolf. I’ll be fine talking with him for an hour or so.”
Scar turns to face him with a very serious face and pulls his mask down to simply say, “No.”
Grian just startled to cackle.
“This is very serious! What if he does something to you? That man is loyal to nobody but money. And his boyfriend Audiophile BUT STILL!” Why did Scar think Audiophile is Werewolf’s boyfriend? You know what no, he can think about this later.
“He is also the only ‘good’ guy who attempted to save me. Besides! He saved you guys the trouble of fixing me up after all that pain!” Grian doesn’t like it everything time he refers to that place, fear starts consuming him and the urge to throw up becomes stronger than ever.
“I guess you're right…” Scar starts, looking down, away from Grian’s face, “He did save us from a lot of pain, didn’t he?”
“Yeah. I want to give him a proper thanks this time.”
Scar looks back at Grian, takes a deep breath and just says, “Okay.”
✧✧✧
It was around noon; a nurse came in to check on his IV bag and told Grian that Werewolf was going in shortly. Upon saying his name Grian could’ve sworn that the room got a sense of murder in the air, the nurse must’ve sensed it too because she quickly left after that.
Grian turns to look at his lovely, criminal, very much villainous boyfriend, “Scar…”
“I’ll stay on good behavior.” Scar huffs in the mask, “But if he tries anything funny, I’m swinging.”
Grian gives a small smile when he says this, good enough, not out-right murder, so, good enough.
A second or so passes by and Werewolf busts into Grian’s room with a whole gift basket in hand. “Hey Grian, what’s up dude? Feeling better?”
“Hi Werewolf. I’m doing good, as good as I can be at least. What’s in the basket?” Grian asks, staring at the basket full of goodies.
“Oh this?” Werewolf holds up, “This is a gift! Filled with chocolates, microwave meals, blankets, and first aid kits! I got only the best because that is what you deserve, the best! After the hell you endured for the last couple weeks.” His mood goes down as he says the end, putting the basket down on an empty table he walks to Grian’s side and holds his hand.
Grian can see from the corner of his eye that Scar almost jumped him, but he is holding back—to the best he can.
“I want to sincerely apologize to you again. For not coming back to save you sooner or even saving you right then and there! We were only lucky that my partner asked about my day and the enchantment that Necromancer had me under. But all of this is just excuses! I should’ve saved you and I failed. I hope you have it in your heart to forgive me.” Werewolf finishes, kneeling on one knee, still holding Grian’s hand as he says all of this.
Yeah, there is no way Grian can hold a grudge against the one guy who tried to save him and is now apologizing that he didn’t. Grian doesn’t know if a simple thank you is enough, but is all he could give.
Sparing a glance to Scar, he could see that his boyfriend was quite shocked. Seeing how a hero—vigilante actually—is apologizing to Grian, that’s new.
“I actually wanted to thank you, for everything you did.”
“What?” Werewolf looks up at Grian, letting go of his hand and stands up. “What do you mean? I failed…”
“You didn’t fail me. You made an effort to try to save me and got me into a good hospital. I’m going to be honest, if it weren’t for you, I probably wouldn’t be doing as well as I am doing now. Also, you give me your coat the last time we saw each other was nice of you too.” This is the best Grian can do for Werewolf, just give him his thanks.
“But—”
“Just take his thanks and leave it at that.” Scar, no, Ringmaster said, standing up.
The voice-changer in the mask really does something.
Werewolf went quiet after that, standing up to face the notorious villain. “I just want to apologize to him. A lot of pain could’ve been avoided if I saved him earlier.”
Please don’t fight. Please don’t fight. Please don’t fight—Grian is repeating this phrase in his head over and over again.
“I actually want to thank you.”
…
“What?” Both Grian and Werewolf say in unison, this is out of character for Ringmaster. Thanking a hero? To be fair Werewolf is a vigilante, but Grian digresses.
“You saved us a lot of pain by getting our Doctor proper medical help. That is all.” Ringmaster says simply, shrugging his shoulders as he leans against the wall, just observing.
Grian needs to stop finding that one specific stare that Ringmaster, Scar, does as hot.
“Ah yes! That was the least I could do for him. And I can only hope that in the future a case like this never happens again.” Werewolf vows, Ringmaster just gives him a nod in acknowledgment.
That went a lot more smoothly than Grian would’ve thought. He thanked whatever god/gods existed in the moment because that could’ve ended badly. (Yay! No more issues that occurred today!)
After a bit of time, Werewolf bids his goodbyes and goes back to do his work. Leaving only Grian and Scar.
“That went better than I expected.”
“Well yeah, Werewolf is a nice guy. Though fighting him is a pain…” Scar says with a grimace on his face.
“You fought Werewolf before?!” Grian asks in surprise.
“Well yeah! I will tell you this story later but like G, he is brutal on the battlefield.”
“I guess he’s only at a disadvantage when he needs to fight against a large group of power-users.” Grian says, fiddling with his blanket, his memory goes back to when Werewolf was trying to save him but ultimately failed because he was outnumbered. “He’s a good man. Such a rarity these days I feel.”
Scar looks at Grian with a somber look, before simply saying, “We won’t kill him. Even if we (the Bamboozlers) need to fight him again in the future, he’ll live. He is a good man and an even better hero. He should live.”
Grian looks up at his boyfriend and smiles, “I like that. Thank you.”
