Chapter 1: people are hard to understand
Chapter Text
Todoroki stuffed his hands into his pant pockets, listening to his class conversation as they all continued to trudge to the train station.
“Man, I hope I get stationed near the food courts!”
“Yeah, it’s way too hot today. I’d love some ice cream.”
“You guys shouldn’t be patrolling for the benefits!”
“We’re only doing it so we get school participation, might as well get some food.”
Monthly patrolling usually striked up these comments, but today the class held an atmosphere of unease. It’s no surprise why. Even Aizawa sensei didn’t tell the class chatter to shut up. Todoroki himself wasn’t feeling the best. Thoughts of him flooded his head, persistent and nostalgic.
“Hey Todoroki!”
Todoroki felt a light tap on his shoulder following the bubbly voice. “Oh, hi Uraraka.” Todoroki greeted back politely, trying to not look too disheveled. Not that most people would notice his subtle facial changes. Well, he would. Did. He was always the exception in most situations though. Thinking of Midoriya today was inevitable, not that it was easy to ignore his absence on regular days.
The shorter girl beamed at him and sped her walk to match his own pace, placing herself to his right. The brunette hummed thoughtfully for a second before turning to face him. “I was wondering if you wanted to partner up for patrolling?” Her voice was gentle and hesitant, similar to that of a mother trying to soothe an upset child. While he appreciated her attempt to comfort him, at the same time Todoroki couldn’t help but feel some resentment at the pity.
Midoriya’s capture had affected the class as a whole in different ways. Some would cry during class while others held a tight composure. Coping with his most likely death with was a rough slope. Depression plagued the first month or so but the class eventually came to terms with it. Everyone would try to mention Midoriya as little as possible. The school had said that this was a life of a hero, where your life is always on the line, even as a student.
Todoroki never realized how much a part of his life Midoriya was until he wasn’t. No one would be be there to greet Todoroki at his locker. A walk to the lunchroom would be accompanied by Uraraka and Iida, sometimes Yaoyorozu instead.
Dancing around the subject all day was just going to worsen the situation so Todoroki bluntly asked, “Does this have to do with Midoriya?”
Uraraka flinched slightly at the coldness, but only let out a tired sigh. She didn’t looked very surprised that Todoroki saw through her though. “Today’s hard for all of us...so I thought maybe you could use some company instead of being alone? We didn’t want you feeling down all day.” Uraraka’s smile had faded, instead holding a somber expression. “We?” Todoroki asked.
“Oh, yeah. Iida and um”, Uraraka shifted her eyes. “Bakugou.” Todoroki raised an eyebrow at the name. Bakugou and him were not friends, hardly even decent peers at times. His fiery classmate seemed to always see Todoroki as a rival, and his attitude had always repelled Todoroki. Bakugou’s treatment towards Midoriya especially was a major reason Todoroki disliked the blonde.
“A-ah, I know Bakugou can seem well, er...intolerable when Midoriya’s the subject but he was affected by...what happened. We all were. And he, we , know how you are when you can’t think straight. Well his exact words were more, “Make sure half and half fuck doesn’t burn down a hospital” but that’s just Bakugou’s way of being a friend. I think.” Uraraka rambled as she noticed Todoroki’s face scrunch in distaste at the mention of Bakugou.
Midoriya would talk fondly about the blonde sometimes, despite all the abuse the blonde put him through. It baffled Todoroki. How could one of the worst people in Midoriya’s life also be one he admired so deeply? Todoroki eventually put it as just how Midoriya was, even though it still bothered him. A forgiver, even if the person didn’t deserve it.
Todoroki was jolted from his thoughts when a soft hand was placed on his shoulder. Uraraka looked up at him with understanding. “I know he was important in your life. He was important to all of us too, even if it’s hard to see.” Her eyes flicked ahead of them. Todoroki followed them to see Bakugou. “We know how hard it can be, is basically what I’m trying to say.”
Bakugou and Midoriya’s shared history is something he’ll probably never figure out, except bits and pieces told by peers. Todoroki’s not sure he wants to know all of it. Especially when Midoriya mentioned how they we’re somehow best friends.
“Yeah, I know...and I appreciate it.” Todoroki sighed. Uraraka gave him a small smile before retracting her hand. “I think I’ll stick with patrolling alone today though.”Todoroki said. Uraraka looked ready to protest before Todoroki stopped her. “I just want to be alone, I won’t be rash Uraraka.” The brunette looked unconvinced but backed off. “I think Iida could use your company though.” Todoroki said, glancing at the class president.
Under his usual stiff and proper attitude, Todoroki can see he’s feeling much like the rest of the class. It’s hard to act casual when it’s the day a dear friend died.
Uraraka eyed Todoroki, trying to read the heterochromatic eyes. “Okay, but I’m trusting you!” Uraraka said, trying to get back into her cheerful attitude. It wasn’t very convincing. She patted his back before running towards Iida.
The class’s group walk slowed to a stop as they approached the train stop. The distant holler of the train ran down the track. Todoroki glanced at the distant bullet train, making eye contact with stern red eyes.
Notes:
It's been a while since I wrote man. The villian deku au has already been used so much, but fuck it i'm jumping on the bandwagon. This chapters short and kinda just a set up, but the next chapter will have more action...probably?
If I made any errors please tell me !
Chapter Text
Midoriya Izuku was captured a year ago today. An injured nomu flew down and captured the fatigued student during the group of heros’ weakened guard. Todoroki didn’t react fast enough. The villain Stain took down the mutation and saved Midoriya Izuku. He made threats against heroes before escaping with the student. Todoroki couldn’t catch up. Midoriya Izuku and Stain weren’t found. Todoroki was useless. Midoriya Izuku was declared dead after three months of searching. Midoriya Izuku’s death was Todoroki’s fault.
“Hey fuck face.”
Todoroki glanced up at the ashy haired blonde, staring down at him with an annoyed expression. Todoroki didn’t respond, instead raising an eyebrow. Bakugou scoffed at the action, before sliding into the empty seat beside him. Bakugou had made sure to keep space between the two, whether for his own sake or Todoroki’s, he wasn’t sure. Either way the farther from the blonde, the better. Todoroki stared out the window at the passing cherry blossoms and multi-sized buildings, tuning out the class chatter and ignoring the tense presence beside him.
Self blame is a tendency of his, Todoroki can admit that. Despite talking with Yaoyorozu about it in the past, and knowing it wasn’t his fault, it’s hard to believe that all the time. The disconnection of his head telling him, “It was a combination of bad events, that Midoriya got captured. You tried to save him.” and his heart telling him, “You’re a fucking failure. All those years of training and you couldn’t even catch up to an injured villain.” made him a mess. Headaches and hallucinations, most likely from the lack of sleep. Nightmares tend to prevent sleep.
“-stening fucker?!”
Todoroki rubbed his temple, and gritted his teeth in annoyance. He’s also grown a tendency to get lost in thought at times, ironically getting the habit from Midoriya. Bakugou’s ever increasing voice wasn’t a pleasant way to jolt back to reality. Todoroki turned and gave the blonde an unimpressed look before drawling out, “What.”
Bakugou’s eye twitched and Todoroki was pretty sure there was smoke seething out of his mouth. “I said, ‘Are you fucking listening fucker?’” His ‘steady’ voice barely contained the refrained anger.
“No.” Todoroki replied without much care.
Bakugou looked ready to throw Todoroki out the train window. Instead of committing civilian harassment though, the blonde closed his eyes and inhaled a long breath that sounded more like a growl. Todoroki had noticed him doing these anger calming methods more often than blasting desks in class this past year. Whatever he has to do to preserve the school supplies Todoroki guessed.
When the crimson eyes reemerged, Bakugou almost levelly eyed Todoroki’s own. Anger never seemed to leave those eyes when they stared at Todoroki’s. “I asked you what area are you patrolling? Round face told me you wanted to be alone, but I don’t trust you not to fuck up. Especially on today.” Bakugou’s uncharacteristically voice dropped a bit on the end.
Todoroki wasn’t the best at reading people, and Bakugou wasn’t the easiest to read. A reason why they avoid each other. Whether or not Bakugou is actually concerned about him frying civilians like ribs, Todoroki isn’t sure. Unlying motives is a possibility?
After a year of training, Todoroki had gained much better control over his fire side. Yet his peers seem think Midoriya throws off his common sense. Not that Bakugou’s any better. Hm.
“I’m patrolling at the Northern Plaza. If you wish to patrol there too, I won’t stop you.” Todoroki said cooly, more of a challenge than an invitation. Bakugou hardened his jaw before giving a grunt of affirmation. They ignored each other for the remaining train ride.
Most likely if Bakugou patrolled near him, he’d ignore Todoroki unless people started screaming and smoke stained the air. As if Todoroki was that reckless. Todoroki was more wary that Bakugou would take his anger out on any unfortunate villain. Granted he hasn’t done that in a while, but today’s different.
~~~
“Let’s meet up for lunch later!” Uraraka called out the duo before walking off with Asui and Iida. “If they manage to not beat each other to a pulp.” Asui mumbled thoughtfully. Uraraka gave a nervous chuckle while Iida reassured them that the class’ cooperation has grown immensely since last year.
Todoroki gave a small wave bye while Bakugou ignored the three. The two eyed one another before both headed in opposite directions. The plaza area was small enough that if anything disastrous did happen, with both their intense speeds, one could reach the other before it got out of hand. An added bonus was that they didn’t have to be near one another for three hours.
Todoroki headed east, trying to think of anything but Midoriya. Which in it itself is a paradox but whatever. Patrolling was usually calm except the occassionally low leveled villain so it left Todoroki almost three full hours to his thoughts. He could see how his friends were worried. He was pretty unstable during his...coping stage. During that time, time to his thoughts usually meant his quirk being chaotic.
Luckily before his mind decided to do a deep dive into the pool of depression and self-blame, a voice called for help. Well not so much help but more of a choked scared scream. Todoroki sprinted down a few streets towards the scuffle, trying his best to clear his mind. That was obviously going to be impossible as he noticed the area he was headed towards.
“Fucking hell.” Todoroki cursed under his breath as the alley came into view. Of all the places someone could’ve got into trouble. He couldn’t help it when his body halted to a stop a few feet away from the alley. He could feel his hands shaking. His legs felt uneasy. It didn’t take much to wear him out, but suddenly he couldn’t breath well. His lungs felt like a weight had been pressured on them. He can’t breathe. He c-
“H-HELP! PLEASE!”
Todoroki’s eyes snapped down to the torso of a man crawling out of the alley way. He had a panicked look to his eyes. Fresh blood smeared across wounds over the man’s arms. It looked like his right arm was broken.
Todoroki bit his cheek and forced in a harsh breath. He’s a hero. He can do this. He has to do this.
Todoroki found circulation rush back to his body and was about to rush towards the man before a gloved hand darted out to the man’s neck. The man froze, eyes pleading to be saved as they held Todoroki’s own.
“P-PL-”
The crack of the man’s spine and crushing of his throat silenced his plea. His eyes were lifeless and still frozen in fear. Todoroki tensed as the hand released the throat, blood dripping down the glove, fragments of bone crushed to specks. A strengthening quirk? Normally average villains killing civilians are rare, but something heros are prepared to encounter.
Todoroki was prepared for that. What he wasn’t prepared for was to be back at the alley way where he fought Stain with Midoriya and Iida. He wasn’t prepared to be on the street where he last saw Midoriya. He wasn’t prepared for the villain figure to walk out of the alley way wearing a familiar bunny shaped mask.
Chapter Text
W..was he hallucinating again? No. He hasn’t for over months. T-this is real. Todoroki held his breath, slight flames dancing in his palm while frost pricked his other. The long bunny ears were similar to his, but the grin of the mask was messily drawn over to look more like sharp teeth. The eye holes’ lenses were darkened, hiding the villain's eyes. Anyone could have a similar mask to his. Anyone.
Todoroki gritted his teeth in anger. Imposter. He could feel the flames engulf more air and icicles piercing out. Liar.
The villain fully stepped out of the alley and into Todoroki’s view before taking a casual stance. He tilted his head a bit in confusion, before hesitantly reaching a hand out. Todoroki didn’t give him a chance to use whatever quirk he had. A sheet of flames shot out from his left.
Todoroki could barely keep track of the villain’s abruptly fast moves as he jumped from the flames to a wall, ricocheting into a body slam onto Todoroki’s right side. Todoroki felt the air get knocked out as him at the impact. Fuck, was his quirk speed or strength?!
Todoroki choked on his lungs, trying to regain his breath. Mismatch eyes darted over to the villain only to be greeted with said person punching him squarely in the chest and to the ground. Todoroki gritted his teeth in pain as two ribs were cracked. He needed to gain distance. Now.
As Todoroki was about to send a wave flames to engulf the street, a bare hand shot through the barely activated flames to his head. Todoroki sucked in a surprised sharp breath as the flames dispersed against his will. A calloused scarred hand covered Todoroki’s own scarred face. Todoroki felt his quirk refuse to work. Todoroki could feel his body go numb.
The villain had managed to pin Todoroki to the ground, sitting on his chest with his right hand covering his scar. When had he removed his gloves? Todoroki glanced at the villian’s left hand, which was still gloved. He could see his right glove tossed to the ground near his head.
So he had a skin contact quirk that cancels quirks? Shit.
Todoroki tried to focus on a plan to escape but the hand covering his face compelled him to not. A calloused and scarred hand. Todoroki could feel his stomach turn at his swirl of confused emotions. Hope mixing with fear at an impossible possibility.
“Shouto?”
A hallucination. Maybe a nightmare. This can’t be real. Midoriya’s dead. Todoroki felt the world tilt, and familiar headaches returned. He could feel himself hyperventilating.
Todoroki could feel a burn pricking at his eyes. That voice was undeniably Midoriya’s no matter how ludicrous the idea was. Todoroki couldn’t talk. His throat felt scorched. He wanted to speak. Speak to Midoriya. He could only manage a grunt of disbelief.
Midoriya’s gloved hand traveled up to his mask before pulling up the fabric covering his face and lowering the grinning mouth piece. His eyes shone the same glowing emerald as Todoroki remembered. Freckles scattered across his cheeks and his mouth was in set in a soft excited smile.
“Oh, shoot please don’t cry!”
What? Oh. Todoroki blinked in confusion as Midoriya leaned closer and gently wiped his eyes with his gloved hand. When did he start crying?
Midoriya’s scarred hand never let go of Todoroki’s right side. His thumb was rubbing gentle circles around the edge of his scar. Midoriya hummed happily as Todoroki’s tears subsided. He held Todoroki’s head with both hands, a small chuckle escaping his mouth.
Todoroki was enamored by the action. He couldn’t look away from Midoriya. Slight suspicion gnawed at him but Todoroki couldn’t care. Midoriya was here. He’s alive.
“I can’t believe I finally got to meet the fire and ice hero.” Midoriya gasped at the realization, barely contained excitement brimming his eyes. Midoriya’s gloved hand traveled up to Todoroki’s white locks, caressing them gently. Todoroki relaxed at the touch, reminded of gentle times with his friend.
“Don’t tell sensei, but you’re my favorite hero.” Midoriya airly laughed. Todoroki gave a soft chuckle, despite the confusion in his head. Maybe he should be concerned. But what’s there to be concerned about? Midoriya’s alive. There’s nothing to worry about. “I always held a strange interest in you since I’ve heard about you Shouto.” Midoriya’s voice was quiet. Thoughtful?
Midoriya’s hand movements stopped. Todoroki’s eyes widened in surprise as Midoriya’s eyes shook. His irises dilated to slits. Midoriya gave Todoroki a conflicted smile. His mouth opened as if to say something, but wasn’t given the chance.
“ARE YOU SHITTING ME?”
Todoroki jolted in panic as Midoriya was kicked off him by a speeding Bakugou on a trail of explosions. “NO!” Todoroki yelled, scrambling to his knees. Midoriya gasped out in surprised and pain at the kick to his side. His body thudded against the wall. Todoroki heard a crack.
Bakugou turned to Todoroki with a flabergasted experssion. “NO?!” Bakugou was seething rage at him. “I CAME TO SAVE YOUR SORRY ASS AND THIS IS HOW YOU RESPOND?!”
Todoroki’s head was aching. He couldn’t think, only act. And the one goal he had at the moment was to save Midoriya.
Bakugou scoffed at Todoroki before turning back to Midoriya. Todoroki’s eyes widened with realization and before thinking it over, froze Bakugou mid-sprint up to his torso.
“WHAT THE HELL FUCK FACE?!”
Todoroki ignored the blonde and whipped his head towards Midoriya. He was already back on his feet, his left arm hanging limply at his side. Todoroki was about to run to aid him but Midoriya’s laugh halted his movement.
“Well I’m glad some heros can still put up a fight.” Midoriya had a burn of competition in his eyes as he stared at Bakugou. Bakugou’s explosions had died.
“Midoriya, your arm-” Todoroki said worriedly.
Midoriya turned towards him, with a confused but flattered expression. “Didn’t think such a cool hero like Shouto would know my insignificant name.” Midoriya chuckled, eyes strangely darting away from Todoroki’s. “Um, lets meet again one day!” Midoriya rambled quickly before taking a crouch and jumping practically in the clouds. “Wait!” Todoroki felt the words escape his mouth far too late as Midoriya’s small figure was already jumping across distant rooftops. Todoroki cursed under his breath, about to chase after the boy when a voice stopped him.
“Hey Todoroki.”
Todoroki paused and turned back towards the hero he momentarily forgot about. Bakugou was gripping the ice encasing his torso with an iron grip. An indent of his handprints had been made on the ice by his explosions. His crimson eyes were fierce but Todoroki as usual couldn’t read them. He looked shakened.
“Was that Deku?”
Chapter Text
“Ah! You’re so cool Kacchan!” Deku gasped as small sparks popped onto Bakugou’s hands.
Bakugou grinned at the shorter boy, and puffed out his chest. “Yeah I know, watch me Deku! I’ll be a better hero than All Might!” Bakugou said with confident determination. He side glanced Deku. He was giving him an idolizing smile. Bakugou felt warm. Well using his quirk did tend to that to his body.
Bakugou shifted from his friend’s gaze, feeling weirdly nervous. Deku didn’t seem to notice. He was just giving him his usual wide eyed stare and had a small smile on. Weirdo.
“Oh!” Deku broke the quiet eye contact and quickly scrambled off Bakugou’s bed to his abandoned backpack on the floor. Deku rumbled through the bag before his eyes lit up. “When did you get your quirk Kacchan?” Deku’s eyes were too fucking bright.
Bakugou gulped but tried to scowl. He managed down at Deku with skepticism. “Why?” Deku nervously grinned before pulling out a notebook and pencil from the the bag.
Oh yeah. Deku’s been making a habit of keeping “Hero Journals” or some shit. Just another addition to his friend’s hero craze.
“I-I wanted to put you in my hero analysis!” Deku stammered.“I’ve only got a few so far s-so it’d be awesome if I could add yours!” Despite his voice Deku was still staring at him expectantly with excitement.
Of course Deku would want to add his cool quirk. It’ll probably be the best one in his book. Bakugou gave Deku a cocky smirk before shrugging. “Yeah sure, it’s a pretty sweet quirk after all.” His fucking body wasn’t cooling down. If anything it felt warmer. Bakugou ignored it.
Deku giggled before clumsily climbing up the bed. He sat himself across Bakugou, a bit too close than probably necessary. Deku’s head was downcast and flipping through pages of the book, mumbling about quirks.
Emerald eyes would occasionally glance up at him curiously. Bakugou huffed slightly and scowled. His face felt too hot now. “Yesterday, shithead.” Bakugou said, probably louder than necessary.
Deku fully turned his head up, facing Bakugou with a confused and slightly worried expression. “W-what?”
Bakugou rolled his eyes. “Your question stupid. I got my quirk yesterday.” Bakugou drawled as if it was obvious.
“Oh! T-thanks Kacchan!” Deku said with realization before jotting down notes on a blank page. Deku faltered after a moment. “You shouldn’t say bad words Kacchan, you’ll get in trouble again.” Deku whispered worriedly. Bakugou grunted but didn’t retort back, instead opting to watching his friend’s speedy writing. Reading upside down was difficult. Bakugou only managed to read a few words.
Effective offense! Flashy! Bigger explosions later?
“Hey uh Kacchan,”
Bakugou gave him a tired hum, focusing on Deku’s scribbling hands. It was strangely therapeutic. Deku paused, seeming to be lost in thoughts. “Do you think I’ll have a good enough quirk?” Deku’s voice was hesitantly quiet.
“Huh?” Bakugou deadpanned. He had been told, usually by the old hag, he was bad at understanding people. Not to mention getting along with them. But fuck her, Deku always stuck with him. Even when the other shitrags were busy, Deku was there.
Bakugou wasn’t really sure how to respond. As annoying as Deku was he didn’t want to upset the shit. Deku was looking anxious. Fuck.
“Um, I uh...probably?” Bakugou tried. Ok maybe he was pretty shitty with people but he’s fucking trying. Deku at least didn’t start crying, so that was a good sign. It was hard to make out how he looked.
Deku sighed and layed his head by Bakugou’s leg with a bittersweet smile. “I guess I just want to, um, fight by your side? Your quirk is so amazing. If I don’t have a good one then...I-I just don’t want to be left behind Kacchan…” Oh.
Shit. Small tears trailed down Deku’s cheeks. “F-fuck don’t cry shithead!” Bakugou unsurely tried wiping away a tear before quickly retracting his hand back. What is he suppose to fucking do?! Why does Deku have to be such a crybaby?!
Deku hiccuped a laugh at the blonde’s distressed expression. Bakugou wanted to push him off the bed. “Shut the fu-” Bakugou jumped in surprise as Deku suddenly hugged his torso. He buried his stupidly soft hair into his chest. Bakugou’s shirt was getting damp and hugs weren’t really something he enjoyed. He let Deku stay.
~~~
He didn’t have a quirk. Deku was quirkless and basically useless.
Deku shifted against his shoulder. He was sniffling. “Hey, don’t cry again.” Bakugou muttered. Deku whined but nodded. A full ten minutes of his friend’s sobbing was as much as Bakugou could take. When the tear ducts finally dried up, Deku had started hugging his side. Bakugou was reluctant but anything was better than the waterworks. The blonde tiredly leaned his cheek on Deku’s stupid hair.
“You don’t need a quirk shithead, you can watch me be a hero.” Bakugou mumbled after a long beat of silence. You can support me.
Bakugou was relieved when Deku came to school quirkless. He would never have a better quirk than Bakugou. The possibility of finding other friends was now impossible. Deku can stay with him.
“B-but I want to be a hero too Kacchan!” Deku protested as he parted from the blonde’s shoulder. Bakugou scowled at his absence and comment. He glared at the emerald orbs. They were slightly red from the crying but the green still shone with determination. Bakugou wished Deku wasn’t being shitty, he’d rather look at his eyes than fight with him.
“You don’t have a quirk shithead.” Bakugou growled as if it was obvious. A quirkless hero was as believable as Bakugou not spitting out a curse every other minute.
Deku didn’t budge. “I-I can still be one! I, um, I have my hero notebooks! I-I can study them!”
Bakugou felt his jaw twitch with aggravation. “How stupid are you?!” Bakugou bit out. “You DON’T have a QUIRK! You can’t fucking be a hero, you’re useless!” Bakugou felt his head throb and heart burn. His body was heating up with anger.
Deku flinched at Bakugou’s close porxitmedy. Smoke was rising from his palms. Deku didn’t respond but backed away from the blonde.
Bakugou didn’t regret the tears spilling out of Deku’s cheeks again. He also didn’t regret Deku’s shaking figure storming out. His palms felt like fire.
The old hag yelled at him for the charred bed and desk later that night.
~~~
He fucking hated Deku. The quirkless fuck wanted to go to Yuuei. As if that was possible.
Bakugou felt his eyes bore into the walking figure in front of him. Deku was shaking nervously but didn’t acknowledge the blonde behind him. Bakugou’s jaw twitch with annoyance.
The fact that they were neighbors and had to basically walk home together while ignoring each other was unpleasant to say the least. Bakugou would usually have to plug in headphones just to drown out Deku’s stupid mumbling. Telling him to shut the fuck up only worked for a few minutes before the fucker started again.
Unfortunately he left his headphones in his desk today so he was grace with Deku’s stupid voice. And of course he was mumbling about how to train for the Yuuei exams. Bakugou was considering blasting the shorter boy into a nearby pond but apparently fate had it covered.
“If I eat fi-Ouch!”
Deku had tripped over an overturned part of the sidewalk. Bakugou stared blankly at Deku’s face planted into the pavement. Deku groaned in pain before trying to pick himself up. Bakugou noticed Deku’s wince as he put pressure on his right leg.
Oh yeah. Bakugou remembered giving Deku a huge bruise on that leg yesterday.
Bakugou awkwardly approached the shorter boy and grabbed his wrist. He felt Deku wince. “Stand up you stupid shit.” Bakugou mumbled before yanking him to his feet.
“T-thanks Kacchan…” Deku whispered quietly as he adjusted his standing and gathered his bag. Bakugou grunted and quickly walked away from his old friend. He didn’t enjoy talking to the idiot. It hurt his chest.
this chapter was weirdly hard to write, but i finally got through it ! hopefully i can get the next one up sooner
Chapter Text
Midoriya winced as his broken arm flung against the wind. He usually enjoyed a run through city rooftops, it helped his coordination and agility, but his current state pretty much ruined any possible enjoyment. At least his legs were still useful. And the rushing air was pleasant, he guessed. If Midoriya was anything, he was an optimistic.
The sun was setting to his left. Orange painted the horizon and pink rose into the sky, turning purple. The sun hummed with a warming radiance. Midoriya wished he could stop and enjoy the view. It was beautiful and reminded him of Shouto’s fire.
Midoriya sighed airily at the thought of the fire and ice hero. The few minutes they spend together was more than Midoriya dreamed of it to be. Ok, he did imagine Shouto to be more of a cold person but what he got was somehow better. Sure they didn’t have a glorious battle that ended in buildings crumbling, but he got to actually touch his face! Midoriya laughed shakily as he felt his face heat up.
“Embarrassing…” He mumbled under his breath. He couldn’t stop smiling at the memory though. His mismatched eyes were truly beautiful up close, not to mention the hair was soft to the touch. His scar was rough but gave him character. Midoriya wanted to hide his face that was definitely burning red.
“Sensei’s gonna be so surprised when I tell him!” Midoriya exclaimed excitedly. His excitement faltered after glancing at his right arm. “A broken arm too I suppose.”
Midoriya frowned at the tainted memory. It was going pretty great until that blonde dude showed up. He fucking kicked him right off Shouto. Rude.
Midoriya scrunched his eyebrows as he tried to remember the hero. It all did happen pretty fast but luckily his memory was pretty precise. The ash blonde hair, explosions quirk, and permanent anger. Ah.
“Bakugou Katsuki.” Midoriya hummed thoughtfully. He spends most of his free time hero researching, so he was pretty well versed with heroes old and new. The most noteworthy accomplishment Midoriya could recalled was him winning the Sports Tournament last year. He was in Class-1A, along with Shouto, and had an extremely short temper.
Midoriya chuckled nervously at the thought of fighting him. Bakugou was pretty strong and Midoriya wasn’t sure how he would fair against the guy. He even beat Shouto at the Sports Tournament surprisingly. Well Shouto was pretty out of it after… After..? Wait, who did he fight?
“Shit!” Midoriya yelped as he slipped onto the upcoming roof. “Oww..” He groaned at the simultaneous pain of his legs and head. He hated his chronic headaches. They always happened at the worst times. Sensei said Midoriya had always had them and to just think of something else to help with it.
Midoriya sighed tiredly as he got back on his feet. Luckily he’s almost home. His head still ached on the way back.
Notes:
quick chapter, im kinda just planning the plot as i write, probably not the best plan but im a lazy cunt
