Chapter Text
My family is alive?
Cain’s skin sears with heat. Wasn't he cold? Wasn't he just freezing to death plunged into the icy waters? He sucks in deep gasps. There’s air here, wherever he is in the dark. He can’t be under water if he’s breathing. Can he?
“Cain. Wake up.” Pinpoints of warmth on his shoulder break through the odd burning frostbite. “Cain, you're ok.” Glitch. Ambrose. Cain sucks in more air and the familiar scent of Glitch’s skin. It’s dark in the cabin of the van. Piled under blankets, Cain remembers he can feel his fingers and his toes. He can move his hands and feet. He’s alive. He didn’t die out there in the frozen wasteland. Glitch pulled him from the water and into the warmth.
Days had passed, sleeping curled up together, naked under the blankets. Cain now knows the pale shade of Glitch’s skin under all of his worn-out fancy clothes. He knows the taste of sweat licked away from the curve of that slender neck.
“Sorry.” Cain groans. It’s not the first time he’s woken up from a stupor. He hasn’t been able to leave the van in his state. He hates how much time they’re wasting because of his weakness.
“Another nightmare?” Gentle hands soothe over Cain’s throat and down to his chest.
“Yeah.” At least he’s not feverish today. They need to move soon. They need to chase after DG and Raw.
“It might feel better to talk about it.” Glitch’s chipper voice pulls Cain from his worries. “Your subconscious mind is clearly unsettled if it keeps torturing you awake every time you fall asleep. Open, honest discussion could help rid you of some of that psychic burden rather than just clenching your teeth and trying to macho your way through it alone.” A wicked smile curves at Glitch’s pretty lips.
“Is that your medical opinion, doctor?” Cain can’t help but ruffle the pretty man’s feathers.
Glitch jerks his head up and down. “It is.” Cain chuckles before he sees it. That far off look stealing over the other man’s features.
Glitch fades, a man chasing his memories. “I think I was a doctor. More than just the medical kind…” His words halt completely. Cain hates this. When Glitch gets lost in memories. The urge to snap at the man to bring him back tangles up with a new desire.
“Can I kiss you?” Cain calls out into the quiet of the van.
“Uh–” Liquid black eyes blink back into awareness. “Sure.” Glitch squeaks, sounding anything but.
It started with the innocent need to keep Cain alive. Naked under heavy blankets. Cain couldn't fight off the cold and the desire. Giving in was and still is the greatest of pleasures. Glitch's trembling lips open up easily to Cain’s demanding need.
Pulling Glitch into his lap has them both groaning in delight. Soft hands slide up Cain’s chest to cup his jaw, and he knows Glitch is there with him. He nips hard on Glitch’s lower lip drawing a gasp out of the other man.
“I think you're deflecting.” Glitch scolds as he shoves Cain down flat into the nest of blankets.
Cain shifts to accommodate their new position. He can take Glitch like this. He likes taking Glitch like this. “I promise to talk, after.” He licks along the hollow of his lover’s pale throat. More, he needs more, now.
“Ok.” Glitch agrees. His skilled hands find Cain’s cock and the Tin man nearly loses himself right there.
Cain might be deflecting, but he’s also processing. He’s not cold anymore, inside or out. Glitch’s weight on top of him and words that sing in his head ‘my family is alive’ give him hope. It’s been so long since he had any of that.
His wife, his son, they’re alive out there. DG is a strong enough threat that even Azkadellia has taken notice. There is promise on the horizon and everyone sees it. Cain’s heart thrums in his chest as he and Glitch come apart together.
They’re going to be leaving soon. The world might look dark right now, but the pale light of dawn is finally cresting the horizon.
