The brightness behind closed eyes

Summary:

Its boring being lonely

So why have that problem when you can just... Not,

Why have an end when you can have a new beginning?

Work Text:

The tile beneath him was cold but Tommy didn't really care, he’d stopped caring about 2 days 7 hours and 14 minutes ago actually, well it wasn't really like Tommy had anything better to do then to watch the clock, and wait.

So that is what he did.

At first Tommy had walked around his house looking at things going through stuff remembering, Tommy had even managed to find the spot where Philza kept his switch hidden so he wouldn't play it at night. Tommy felt no need to play it.

He hadn't been counting at that point he thought they'd be back by then, they couldn't be much longer, they wouldn't leave him.

Eventually he got tired, extremely tired. Tommy felt no need to sleep. So he had sat down on the tiles in front of the main door, the door they were supposed to walk through ages ago, so he had waited.

If the front door were to open now it would hit his knee, something hitting his knee would hurt. Tommy didn't need to worry about that. Tommy didn't need to worry. Tommy, worry.

Tommy missed his family. His brothers probably at school and his dad at work. They probably just had some they had to do so they couldn't come home yet. Tommy could wait for them. Tommy had waited for them. For so long.

He felt something tug under his skin, he didn't look down at himself. He couldn’t, not yet. So he stood up. Tommy no longer felt the need to stay in his home. So he reached for the silver handle and opened his front door.

Tommy walked out through the house's gate and onto the sidewalk, cars drove by with no one in them.

He felt the tug again so he went on walking, letting his feet guide him as he took in the scenery as he walked further and further from the house the towns passing him by.

There was what looked like the reflection of a short boy standing under a tree, his hair covering his eyes, he smiled at Tommy, the boy beckoned for him to come closer. That wasn't what Tommy was looking for so he kept walking. The reflection vanished.

The sky had turned dark making it impossible to see, there was no moon. That didn't stop him from walking further, he didn't stumble once that night.

When the sky had been lit up once more by the sun Tommy found he was no longer walking through towns but a field instead, what felt like grass brushing against his legs. Tiny purple flowers that formed globe like clusters spotted the field, the name of them on the tip of his tongue. Tommy felt no need to think about it. So he didn't.

He reached what looked like a small city, a beautiful city, he walked along what looked to be the main path that was built over the water, the coral vibrant but blurry under the water. The buildings either over the water or built into sides of the mountain that encompassed one side of the nation. Lanterns floating overhead swaying in the silence.

Tommy opened the door to one of the houses standing still letting the second-hand memories of laughter, joy and a song that could have been remembered wash over him. He left the house shortly after, the tugging getting stronger.

He continued down the path till it ended at what looked to be a railway. Tommy followed the tracks stepping on the sleepers as it led into a forest . The trees surrounding him the foliage making it dark but not dark enough that he couldn't see his way.

The railway led down a dark tunnel with sporadic torches to lead the way down. Eventually the floor evened out and he was in a very large ravine the walls towering above him covered in wooden buttons.

Tommy followed the torches, the jagged walls echoing despair and hatred. He passed a pit carved into the stone of the ravine, dark red splattered on the walls and floor of the pit. Tommy didn't need to remember that. Tommy didn't need to remember. Tommy, remember.

The tug in his chest led him up a narrow flight of stairs, light coming from the top, at the top there were chests and a few beds. He hadn't stopped in awhile. Tommy felt no need to stop. He walked out back into the forest, it was night once more.

He went through the forest making his own path, the trees blocking out any light that could have come from the night sky. The trees decimated as Tommy reached the coast line, rocks bouncing off the edge of the cliff as he kicked them, the waves crashing into the cliffs to meet them. The silence swept his hair.

Tommy felt a presence a little ways behind him. He didn't look back, Clementine wouldn't like him to. There was a light push behind him now, the small girl helping him forward, the tug lighting up slightly. Slightly.

The cliffs eventually lead to a small beach, the tide calmly lapping the sand, the sun breaching the horizon. On the beach there were a few umbrellas, beach chairs and a table were set up, they all looked worse for wear.

The path from the beach led to a tent and a Christmas tree, the tent looking odd near the tree, the tree too bright for a place like this. The dregs of hope still remaining around the tent wavering in the silence.

Tommy back tracked down the path a bit back to where it branched off from the beach going at a slight decline. The path ended in front of a commune surrounded by log walls, barrels stacked on top of each other inside the walls as well as a small hut. Tommy didn't want to look any further in. Tommy didn't need to look. Tommy, look.

He continued on through a field following the trees through another forest. The trees seemed to be bowing down trying to block his passing, he paid them no mind pushing through. The silence sent empty threats of cold as he walked the tops of trees starting to turn white.

He reached a cottage, the torches shining like a beacon as the sky lost its shine once more, and the silence threatened more violently. Tommy walked past the stable as he headed for the front door pushing it open, the walls were bare as only chests lined the end of the room stacked up to the roof.

Near the front door there was a ladder he decided to go up to the middle floor, it was much the same as the last room walls bare and chests. The only odd thing is there was an empty boat in the middle of the floor.

Tommy looked out the windows, the torches shedding light on what otherwise would be a pitch black iceland. He walked over to one of the chests and opened it, there was nothing inside. Tommy no longer felt the need to stay. Tommy didn't need to stay. Tommy, stay.

The snow stuck to the bottom of his shoes as he walked away from the house, he could feel Clementine's longing digging into his back, he wished he could help her. To the side there was a small shack, Clementine started to pull on his shirt, but the tug was stronger so he ignored her.

He walked past the shack and back into the forest once more, the trees growing thicker and closer together towering over him. The world was still for him, not even the silence decided to interrupt his path.

Finally he reached his destination, the tug ceasing along with the girl. The pond looked deep, it reflected a light from an unknown source, he looked down at the water. They were there to greet him, holding out a hand. He held out his and stepped into the water.
