A Good Type of Different

Summary:

It was three in the morning. The two hadn't even thought of sleeping. Their brains were too preoccupied with each other.

-

Lucy didn't know where this was going to go. It was completely out of her field ; she had never had a guy pursue her like this. Well, except for Loke… and Gray flirted a bit when they first met… Lauxus also said he would want her as his ‘woman’. This though. This was different. A good type of different.

-

Bickslow had fooled around with girls– sure. It came with being a part of the thunder legion. A reputation and a bit of fame came with groupies. But this girl was different. She had a spark and a flair that he couldn't ignore. He'd be stupid to ignore the gorgeous celestial mage. This wasn't going to be some fling ; it wasn't going to be a single night that neither of them would move on from. Something that they would resent. This felt different. A good type of different.

Chapter 1: Bickslow

Chapter Text

Bickslow didn't know what was wrong with him.

It felt like it was boiling under his garments, like he was dehydrating and shriveling up at the sight of her. Her. What was so special about her? He had been entirely stumped. The past couple weeks his eyes would stray from conversation to just watch her walk by. To watch her sit at the bar with Levy. Watch her leave for a job with the pyro and watch her come home. He just couldn't stop watching her.

Lucy Heartfillia had captured all of his attention.

He didn't dream of bringing it up. Hell, that would be him digging his grave and burying himself alive. If anyone from her team knew that he had his eye on her he’d be a dead man walking. He wouldn't dare say a word to her.

Sure, her team was the main factor but it wasn't like Bickslow was a standup guy. He'd done a lot of wrong by her and he didn't need to be messing it up more than it already was. He'd keep his distance.

…He was staring at her again…

Cana had brought over a couple wines and had the blond mage tasting them– something about her “being a lightweight” and “that if she was going to get drunk she might as well do it off good tasting wine.” He never got Cana; no pun intended but she was always a wild card; dragging people into her chaotic style of fun.

Freed had a habit of comparing him to her, and Evergreen said that if they were to ever get together then the guild should pray the protection keeps up. The winged bitch is convinced that any child that comes from him would be a straight up devil spawn – “adding Cana genetics is just asking for a messed up demonic beast… and we already have enough of those at the guild.” shed say.

Lucy had a fancy way of tasting the wine. She swirls it in the glass and takes a small sniff of it before taking the smallest sip. She probably isn't getting any of the flavor – or the buzz that Cana was probably hoping the blonde would get. Lucy was different from most of the people in the guild. Sure she could fly off the handle like any Fairytil member but she was a bit more… Freed would say tactful… but Bickslow thought it was fierce and like a shot of electricity.

When she went crazy it was different.

It was… really hot..?

Bickslow couldn't get over it. Over her. Her figure, the way her hips swayed just right, the way her lips curled around the rim of the wine glass in the most delicate way.

God. He was going crazy.

“You're acting all weird again,” Evergreen mumbled from behind her fan. The remaining members of the thunder legion hadn't been sociable as of recently. They are still recovering from Lauxus being kicked from the guild. Freed couldn't get the look of guilt off his face when he looked at Mira and Elfman. Not to mention the green haired man's horrendous hair cut. Bickslow almost killed him when he saw it.

Evergreen took the buzzcut worse than Lauxus’s banishment to be honest.

“Weirder than normal?” Bickslow smiled out, the tip of his tongue poking out of his mouth. He had a reputation. Acting a little freaky pulls people in – it has a draw that wraps people up. Not to mention the chicks dig it. His attitude, clothing, body modifications especially. It was fair to say that he was the only Fairytail member with his guild mark on his tongue. He chuckles at Evergreen's eye roll and she flicks her fan at him.

“Yes. It's like you're possessed or something.”

“Ha! Me? Possessed? You do know who you're talking about, hmm?” Bickslows voice had raised a bit and only got met with a swat from Evergreens fan. While Bickslow’s magic didn’t directly affect humans he had thrown the few loose threats of taking over and possessing people if they stepped out of line. It would take too much effort to follow through with them though. Not to add that it would affect the layback cool guy attitude he had built up. That was his part in the Thunder Legion. Evergreen and Freed consistently had a stick up their asses so it was up to him and Lauxus to get them to chill out. Well , guess now it's just up to him.

Lucy seems laid back though. Calming, like she would write steamy poetry before bed.

Definitely steamy.

Bickslow chuckles a bit before Evergreen bops him on the arm. Ok, so maybe she noticed his weirdness. Freed was too romantically dense but Ever could sniff out a crush like it was a bakery that just popped out the freshest chocolate brownies.

“Seriously.” she sighs as she leans into the back of her chair. “I get it your acting all weird because of our team being out of whack but…” she pushes her glasses up so she can maintain eye contact with the seith mage, “we're still here, alright.”

He kept eye contact with her through his helm. She couldn't see but she knew. God – he felt like a jerk. Too worried about the pretty blond to help out his own team members.

“I know that Ev… it's why I have the spare key to your place; you're my walk in therapist.” she bops him with the fan again and Freed makes his way down from the second floor. He was trying to keep the old man updated about Lauxus. They were both worried that he was gonna go back to his father. Something nobody wanted for him. It made Freed feel better that he could help the older man. It was the least that the team could do – lighten the man's load. Freed slumps down next to Evergreen and doesn't look up from the table. He's been so depressed.

“Well, if it isn't the beast to our beauty,” Bickslow says and lets his lips lift into a smile. Sure he was down about the loss of their leader but he was supposed to be the goofy one. The one who lifts everyone else up. The one who tells the jokes.

“Uhg! Im getting it fixed so you both will stop bitching at me,” he grumbles out. The green haired mage knows it's in good jest. Chopping all of his hair off had been a spur of the moment, emotional move. Once he heard that Lauxus was being kicked out he sort of had a breakdown. It just seemed like the right move at the time. Now.. not so much. Freed had been dogged on about it enough so now he had an appointment with one of the mage run salons in town. It would be expensive to get his length back but worth it. Worth it to shut his teammates up.

“Finally, we can't be Fairytails hottest team if a third of us looks like they stuck their head in a blender,” Ever said with a smug grin on her face. Really, Bickslows hair wasn't all that much better – he basically did put his head in a blender when he trimmed his dark blue locks. But he could make up for it with the bad boy look. Freed was supposed to be put together.

Something he most definitely wasn't. Definitely not right now.

Though, now that Ever had brought up the hotness level of their team his eye was once again drawn into the celestial mage. He could see Cana finishing off the glasses that Lucy had not. But even if the blond hadn't drank it all herself her cheeks were still a light pink and her eyes had a little droop. She really was a lightweight.

“Right, Bicks?”

“Uh huh..” he watched as Cana laughed and Lucy slumped into the table, resting her head on the palm of her hand. Her face had a dreamy look on it as she grazed the guild.

“What do you think, Bickslow?”

“Yup, whatever you want.” she really was beautiful; she wasn't the usual pretty that a guild would draw in. No, she was an expensive pretty. Not that it mattered that she actually was. Expensive doesn’t do anything for him.

It doesn't – a pretty girl could be dirt poor and still have that type of look to her.

It's just – Lucy looks like a girl in a portrait. She just has an elegance to her that doesn't come with a bar girl. His eyes are bouncing to Cana as she slaps the top of the table before flicking back to Lucy. He's so glad that he had his helmet on – it would be awkward if his team was able to see him staring–

“Are you staring at the celestial mage?” Freed asked, causing Biackslow to jump a bit in his seat. How did he know?!
