“You’re unbelievably dramatic.” Iwaizumi’s deadpan voice said through Oikawa’s phone speaker.
“Can you blame me? The love of my life said to the media that we don’t talk much,” Oikawa sniffled dramatically. “How am I supposed to feel?”
“Tooru…”
“I spend my days and nights dreaming and yearning for you, missing your touch, missing you and you reward me with this?” Oikawa sighed deeply. “I should have known it was too good to be true.”
“Don’t joke about that,” Iwaizumi’s voice turned serious suddenly before he also sighed. “I’m… sorry. I really did panic when they asked. Aside from that stupid bet, I didn’t know if you talked things out with your team and with your PR person too… I don’t know what’s okay to say.”
“Hajime, I wasn’t serious,” Oikawa’s tone softened. “I don’t actually care.”
“I know but… I want people to know. I – I’m proud to be your partner in life, Tooru. I don’t care about that fucking bet anymore.”
“I never minded whether or not people knew. The most important people in my life know and that was all that mattered,” Oikawa shrugged on his end. “I won’t deny, it would be nice to publicly talk about how much I love you. And your body.”
“Yeah?” He could hear the smile in Iwaizumi’s voice. “I don’t think I can wait until we get married though.”
“Don’t then,” Oikawa said, simple as that. “We’ll both be in Japan soon, won’t we? We’ll just take a picture and post it. No explanation needed.”
“Do you need someone to sign off on that?”
“Nope!” Oikawa said cheerfully.
And thus, it was decided.

There was no media training involved in that interview nor interference from Tooru’s PR people. I said what I said because of a stupid bet I made with Makki and Mattsun about how long it would take before one of us revealed our relationship.

“Hi, I’m Oikawa Tooru,” Oikawa flashed a bright smile at the camera, throwing up a peace sign with one hand and tugging Iwaizumi closer to him with the other. “And this is…”
“Iwaizumi.”
“You could show a little more enthusiasm, you know?” Oikawa frowned, turning to face a deadpan Iwaizumi.
“You forget I’m an athletic trainer. You’re the star athlete here, I don’t do interviews except for that one time.”
“You did for the Olympics.”
“That’s the Olympics. It doesn’t count.” Iwaizumi waved him off.
“Anyways!” Oikawa raised his voice and Iwaizumi rolled his eyes fondly. “We’re doing an interview because Vogue Japan reached out after our announcement posts and asked if we wanted to do another interview, together this time. And we’re both in Japan visiting family for the New Year so…”
“I got roped into this by Tooru.” Iwaizumi sighed.
“Don’t lie, Iwa-chan. You felt guilty,” Oikawa gasped. “He felt guilty about the interview even though I wasn’t really upset. Our friends made it a bigger deal than it really was.”
“It’s all because of them anyways,” Iwaizumi huffed. “Stupid bets.”
“We didn’t have to take the bet.”
“Yeah, we fucking did.”
“Okay, maybe we did,” Oikawa admitted before addressing the camera. “We’re very competitive.”
“Oikawa’s always been like this. He hasn’t changed in that aspect,” Iwaizumi shook his head fondly. “He’s always been a competitive guy and he’s a sore loser to boot.”
“Don’t expose me, Iwa-chan!” Oikawa’s jaw dropped. “Iwa-chan used to collect insects in little jars until one day some of them escaped and scared his mother and he was forced to set them all free. He cried all day and I watched Godzilla with him until he calmed down.”
“What is your problem?”
“If you’re going to start saying embarrassing stories about me, I’m gonna do the same for you. We’ll be here all day.”

“Does it really not bother you? The distance? The lack of communication sometimes? We both have busy schedules, I just… I don’t know.” Iwaizumi sighed, resting his chin on top of Oikawa’s head, pillowed atop Iwaizumi’s chest as they laid in bed.
“Iwa-chan… Hajime. We’ve known each other our whole lives, not talking to each other every single day isn’t the end of the world. It’s not that it doesn’t bother me, because sometimes it does and I miss you all the time but… we’re both doing what we’ve always wanted to, right? We’re living our dreams and we’re together, even if it isn’t physical.”
“I’m really happy for you, you know? So proud of what you’ve done with your life. I think you’ve come so far and –”
“Gonna need you to stop talking right now or I will start crying,” Oikawa sounded suspiciously choked up and Iwaizumi huffed out a laugh, closing his eyes and pressing a kiss to the top of Oikawa’s head. “You’re a sap.”
“As if you’re not.”
“I’m not the one who pretends to be all macho to everyone.” Oikawa teased, pinching Iwaizumi’s side.
“Shut up.”
