“Chi Cheng, please, stop,” Wu Suowei whimpered, eyes tightly shut close, trying his best to form audible words.
But it went ignored, Chi Cheng just continued, not giving a care for Wu Suowei’s pleas. As Wu Suowei let out more whimpers, Chi Cheng savoured each sound like a symphony, the grandest he could ever hear.
“You’re going to be with so many people later, Wei Wei. I can’t just let you go, can I?” Chi Cheng whispered in his ear.
“Chi Cheng, please, I’m begging you.” Tears sat at the edge of Wu Suowei’s eyes.
Chi Cheng sucked harder at his neck, making sure the spot stayed purple for the rest of the day, while his hand gripped his waist, leaving marks of his nails on it.
“You know how good you look. I’m not risking anyone else asking you to go back with them.” Chi Cheng moved to his ear lobe, nibbling on the soft skin. “Can’t have that can we now?” Chi Cheng reminded, using his teeth to pull the ear lobe downwards, causing the ear to turn all red.
“No, I’m yours only.”
“Now that’s my good boy.” Chi Cheng paused to ruffle Wu Suowei’s hair, and then resumed kissing the hell out of him.

The engagement party started only an hour after Chi Cheng and Wu Suowei was done with what they needed to do. When they arrived, everyone had been there.
Yue Yue’s family were all there already. Her mother had been talking to Chi Cheng’s, seemingly engrossed in their conversation. Yue Yue herself was dressed extremely well, gown all sparkly and big, easily the attention of the room.
Well for everyone except for Chi Cheng. Even Wu Suowei was surprised to see such an extravagant dress put together with jewellery adorning her neck and hands.
“Chi Cheng, you’re here!” Yue Yue squealed when he saw him enter, grabbing the attention of the two mothers.
“Yue Yue told me she was dating a really respectable guy, I can totally see it in him!” Yue Yue’s mother praised, hand already on his arm. Chi Cheng couldn’t help but scoff.
“Not as good as your Yue Yue. She cares so much about others. She even bought me this scarf!” Chi Cheng’s mother responded, holding up said scarf.
“Chi Cheng, who’s this you’ve brought with you?” Yue Yue’s mother asked.
“Oh, have you not met him before?” Chi Cheng asked, tone already condescending.
“Not at all. Am I supposed to know him?”
Chi Cheng smirked, eyebrow tilting up. “How sad. He had been dating your daughter for seven years before she decided to be with me.”
“Chi Cheng!” Wu Suowei whisper-shouted, hands pinching Chi Cheng’s side but was swatted away quickly.
The conversation droned on, but Chi Cheng couldn’t care less about what was being spoken. His mother started to look concerned, confused on why Chi Cheng was so relaxed for an event that was something he should have dreaded.
Many other guests had congratulated Chi Cheng for his engagement. And Chi Cheng just accepted each one, without taking anything to heart, not even a scoff or a dirty look thrown out.
It was weird that he was just so… accepting.
And when it hit seven, Chi Cheng’s father stood on stage. Champagne glass in hand, clinking it using a fork into the microphone, grabbing everyone’s attention.
“Dear honourable guests and relatives, today I hold this party as a symbol of union between two families. Our son, has chosen who he will tie the knot with.” The father announced, and the crowd burst into applause, loudest of which came from Yue Yue’s table.
“Now, let’s view the wonderful montage of the blossoming relationship between our son, and our soon to be daughter in law!”
The lights of the hall dimmed and the screen lit up.
And then disaster struck.
“I’ll get married to Chi Cheng, and I’ll have the most luxurious life I could ever have! I’ll finally be able to live in high society!” Yue Yue’s voice sounded from the Bose speakers, screen depicting her and one of her friends at the Chanel store at the nearby district.
“Didn’t you say you hated the snakes he kept with him? How would you be able to live with them all your life?”
“I’ll get rid of them one way another, just watch me.”
Chi Cheng’s father watched the whole clip dumbfounded. Once he got back to his senses, he screamed for the IT personnel, demanding them to get rid of the clip. But in response, another video played instead.
“That snake is so annoying! Gang Zi, could you get someone to clear it? It’s so disturbing! Make sure Chi Cheng doesn’t know it’s me. If he does, my funding for shopping trips will all be gone.”
It turned out it was Gang Zi who filmed the whole thing, pretending to play in her favour to get those clips. The crowd passed around murmurs, all in shock of what they were seeing. Wu Suowei included. He thought it’d just be a normal engagement event, and if Chi Cheng was feeling in love, he’d just right up reject the offer.
But this? This needed preparation, effort, coordination. He must have done this in advance, impossible to have been pulled off just yesterday.
He looked over at Chi Cheng, and he was just smiling, right hand patting Xiao Cu Bao swirled around his left.
“This… this has to be fake!” Chi Cheng’s father exclaimed, “Our Yue Yue isn’t like that! They made up the audio!”
And in response again, the screen flashed Chi Cheng’s credit card history. Tens of thousands of yuan spent at a time, with at least a dozen receipts on the screen, all of them dating the same afternoon.
Yue Yue’s mother stood up and pointed at the screen. “That’s slander! How dare you slander our family?!”
Chi Cheng calmly stood up and strolled his way to the stage, gently tapping on the mic before speaking. “Yue Yue’s gift to you. Check the product label. It matches the receipt on the top right corner. She didn’t buy it with her own money, she bought it with mine.”
“You guys are about to married anyways! What’s the problem with sharing money?”
“I. Don’t. Want. A. Leech.“ Chi Cheng said with a cold demeanour, hammering each word down with a firm and harsh voice.
“I KNEW YOU WERE CHEATING ON ME!” Yue Yue screamed, knowing she had no way to save herself now. The least she could do was bring down the man who tried to harm her.
“It’s not cheating if we weren’t dating. You didn’t put your heart in it, so we were NOT dating. Instead I have a different proposal to make today.”
And then the spotlight shifted from the stage to Yue Yue. “Sorry, not that person. She’s useless to me now.” Chi Cheng remarked.
The spotlight shifted to Wu Suowei now. He himself looked like a deer caught in headlights. He hadn’t expected this to happen.
The crowd started to murmur again, wondering who this new face was. People were saying it was a new business partner, but Chi Cheng was going to prove them wrong.
In his hands he held a bouquet of flowers as he walked down the stage into the crowd. People moved away from his path, not wanting to obstruct his presence.
He passed the bouquet to Wu Suowei, and bent down to one knee, fumbling something out from his pocket.
It was a red velvet box, and he opened it, revealing a glistening diamond ring shaped into a heart. He looked up at Wu Suowei, catching his flushed face and doe eyes and he couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Wu Suowei, you’ve been nothing but a pillar of support in these few months. No matter if it’s your banter, or your kind words, each word mattered to me. You didn’t see me as a bank, you treated me with equal respect. I have felt nothing but pure happiness while I was with you, and that made me realise, Yue Yue wasn’t the one for me, you were. So, if it isn’t too much to ask, may I ask for your hand in marriage?” Chi Cheng had professed his love with such sincerity and genuineness, others couldn’t help but applaud him.
Wu Suowei was on the verge of tears. Everything about that night felt unexpected, like he must have saved a kingdom in his past life to have received this kind of treatment. He looked at Chi Cheng, and back at the ring he held in his palms. It might have been his first boyfriend, but he’s sure, that this would be his last.
There was no other answer to that question.
“Of course, I will.” A tear fell from his eye, but Chi Cheng caught it before it could roll down further.
Chi Cheng’s sister, Chi Jiali was in the crowd. Finally relieved that Yue Yue was out of the picture, and that Chi Cheng was finally dedicated and invested in someone now, who reciprocated the feeling, she started shouting, “KISS!”
Other members of the crowd joined in, and soon after, a loud roaring chant had been formed in the crowd.
Chi Cheng look at the crowd, mesmerised at the support they were showing him. And when he let his guard down, Wu Suowei grabbed him by the tie, pulling him closer before tipping his toes and kissing him.
It had been chaste but sweet, it was a kiss shown to the public either way.
Chi Cheng was taken aback, but enjoyed it nevertheless. He drunk in the moment, and even after they parted, he could still feel the ghost of Wu Suowei’s lips on his.
Chi Cheng turned away from Wu Suowei, and faced his parents. His hand found its way to Wu Suowei’s, and held it tightly, as if afraid that if he lets go, he’ll never be able to hold it again.
“Pa, Ma, I’ve already decided. I’m never going to be anyone else but Wu Suowei. My heart already lays with him.”
Chi Cheng’s father tried to go forward and hit him, but his mother held him back, muttering something to him.
“Xiao Chi, do you know the decision you’re making? Isn’t this too rash?” Chi Cheng’s mother tried reasoning but it fell on deaf ears.
“Ma, wasn’t it too rash to make me get married to Yue Yue? Did you ever consider how I felt about it? And pa, did you ever think about how I felt when you took my snakes?” Chi Cheng bit back, unrelenting towards his parents.
“Chi Cheng, if you walk away with this boy, you shall never come back to this family!”
“If that’s all it takes, I’ll be leaving.”
And Chi Cheng left the ballroom, Wu Suowei following right behind him. When they ended up in the car, Wu Suowei realised they were heading somewhere familiar.
“Chi Cheng, are you heading to my mum’s place?” Wu Suowei asked as they were passing the corn fields.
“Mm, good news must be shared, right?” Chi Cheng placed a soft kiss to Wu Suowei’s right cheek.
Wu Suowei, flustered, replied, “Chi Cheng! Focus on the road!”
When they finally arrived at Wu Suowei’s place, his mother was already outside, watering some of the plants.
“Wu Qiqiong! Xiao Chi!” She exclaimed, immediately putting down her hose to walk over to the two of them. After all the hugs were exchanged, they settled in the living room.
“What brings you here today? I thought Qiqiong would be having an important event today?” Wu Suowei’s mother asked.
“Ma, today something very special happened. If you allow, I’d ask to be your son in law.” As if on cue, Wu Suowei raised his right hand to show the new shiny ring that adorned his ring finger.
His mother’s eyes widened to the size of a fishball, in disbelief.
“Our Wu Qiqiong managed to grab such a good boyfriend?” She asked, earning her the chuckle from Chi Cheng.
“I should be surprised I got such a sweet and adorable boyfriend like Wu Suowei.”
“Oh this is such great news!” Wu Suowei’s mother exclaimed again, trying to absorb the new information given.
“Then, tonight I will treat you to good food! This must be a feast for such a grand occasion!”
Chi Cheng might have been irrational, maybe even stupid for choosing Wu Suowei. But he’s sure that his decision won’t be one he regrets, especially with such a loving person beside him. He doesn’t know what would happen in the future.
All he knows is how much love he had for Wu Suowei, and that was all he needed.
