Megan’s house, Saturday January 14th 2034, 8:58pm
*DING DONG* Megan heads to the door and opens it, confirming her suspicions (and hopes) of who it was. “Glad you could come, Karms.” Megan smiles as she gesture-invites Karmi to come in.
“Glad I could make it.” Karmi says as she enters, smiling and very excited to be there. Today Karmi was having a sleepover at Megan’s. They rarely hung out with just each other, and tonight would be their attempt to rectify that.
“Glad you could make it , Karmi.” Diego formally greets Karmi as he comes from the kitchen, having heard someone answer the door.
“Thanks for letting me come over, Mr. Cruz.” Karmi says.
Diego chuckles. “No problem, now if you girls need me I’ll be in my office doing paperwork… about Kang.” He mutters in annoyance. True; Kang didn’t cause THAT much damage, well physical wise. Paperwork wise, he was a menace. And Diego had to deal with all those reports and damage assessments.
“Thanks Mr. Cruz.” Karmi says, with a face of sympathy. “Also I’m sorry about that.”
Diego puts on a small smile and waves it off. “Thanks, but I’ll be ok. Have fun you two.” He then heads off, leaving the girls to themselves.
“So, what do you want to do first?” Megan asks her friend.
Karmi puts her hand to her chin as she thinks about it. “How about a movie?” She shrugs.
Megan smiles. “Good idea, let’s get started.”
The two then head to the living room and sit on the couch as Megan grabs the remote off the coffee table and starts flipping through. “So, what’d you wanna watch?”
Karmi shrugs. “What’s good this week?”
“I’ll flip through Hulu until we find something.” Megan shrugs with an embarrassed chuckle as she does so. “Anything, did you wanna talk about anything in the meantime?”
Karmi smiles. “Well, anything planned with your mom?”
“Well she’s picking me up from school next week for the first time.” Megan gushes with a smile.
Karmi flashes her a smile of vicarious joy. “That’s wonderful Meg.”
“Thanks.” Megan can’t help but smile. Her mother-daughter relationship with Cass was going so well, and she was loving every minute of it. It was great having a mom again.
“I’m happy for you Meg.” Karmi tells her in a soft voice. “It’s great seeing you so happy.”
Megan can’t help but smile at her friend’s empathy (or was it sympathy, sometimes she forgot). She was glad to have Karmi as a friend. “Thanks, Karms.” She gushes. “Hey what about this one?” She asks after spotting a movie on the screen.
10:43pm
After the movie, Karmi and Megan decided to paint their nails. So Megan grabbed her nail kit and they moved to the table so they wouldn’t get polish anywhere.
“So, Trina as a big sister?” Megan says as she paints Karmi’s right nails. “I still have trouble adjusting to it.”
Karmi puts on a lighthearted smile. “Me neither, but it’s so heartwarming to see her so happy.” She gushes.
“Oh definitely.” Megan agrees with a smile. “And she’s doing a good job so far.”
“She is.” Karmi agrees. “Oh, did you hear about Liv Amara’s newest project?”
Megan nods. “Yeah, the regeneration cradle.”
“It’s HUGE!.” Karmi gushes. “It’ll revolutionize skin-grafting as we know it, instead using an artificial substance.”
“It does sound interesting.” Megan notes. It was nice talking about science with her “nerd” friends, even when she didn’t completely understand it most of the time.
“And Gogo’s mom is the inventor!.” Karmi exclaims with gleam. “She’ll be coming back from South Korea so Liv can help her make the cradle a reality.”
Right, Helen Cho IS Gogo’s mom. Megan thinks. It was easy to forget. “Gogo’s probaly excited.”
“She is. She really misses her.” Karmi says with a slight sulk and tone of empathy. She knew what it was like to be away from one’s parents.
Megan slight smiles. “I’m happy she’ll get to see her soon.”
“Me too.” Karmi says.
“And…. Done.” Megan lets go of Karmi’s right hand and stops painting her nails. Karmi takes a look at her right hand, noting how well Megan had painted her nails cobalt blue.
“I love it, thank you.” Karmi says, feeling really satisfied with the result.
Megan smiles and nods. “You’re welcome. Now then, let’s get the started on the other hand.”
Megan’s room, 11:40pm
“Lights out Meg.” Diego says as he turns off Megan’s overhead light, with the glow of a blueish nightlight bathing the room in a slight glow; illuminating the areas by Megan’s bed and Karmi’s air mattress. “Good night, love you.” He smiles.
“Love you too dad.” Megan smiles, then Diego closes the door as he heads to his room. Megan undoes her ponytail and takes off her hairclip, putting it and her hair tie on her dresser.
Karmi does the same with her ponytail, except she shoves her hair tie in the pocket of her jacket; which was hanging over Megan’s desk chair. “Thanks for today Meg.” Karmi smiles, happy with how the day had turned out. “Today was great.”
Megan smiles as she gets lays on her side, facing Karmi. “Thanks for coming. It wouldn’t have been the same without you.” Megan gushes before she yawns and closes her eyes as she drifts off. “Good night, love you.” She slurs as she falls asleep.
Karmi thinks about it, then smiles. “Love you too.”
She then gets on her side and starts drifting off. She hesitated at first because she didn’t know how to respond at first. It’s not that she never told her friends that she loved them; but she hadn’t really done it for anyone besides Ari. But she did love her friends, Megan included. As she falls asleep, she smiles one more time from thinking about how much fun she had today.
