Chapter Text
Neither of Zach Morris' proms had been what one would call normal. There were no tuxedos, expensive dresses, limos, all that stuff that he knew was supposed to be a rite of passage. At the first one, he did not technically even go. But he and Kelly had their own prom. This one, it had been different. A square dance was not the typical prom.
No matter how many girls he tried to ask, he just could not get his mind of Kelly Kapowski. They broke up a long time ago, sure. But she was special. She was Kelly. Truth be told, he still loved her. He never expected her to go with someone else. So of course, he handled it the Zack Morris way. He manipulated to get what he wanted.
Everything would have been fine if they had not run into Matt. But Kelly knew Zack a little too well, and now, she was mad at him and neither of them had a date for the prom. He kept trying to talk to her and that stupid square dance was even stopping him. But once he got her to listen to him, it got better.
Zack had meant it. He had meant it when he told her that she was the only girl for him, and she always had been. What he had not been expecting was for Kelly to say that she thought they belonged together too. They had even shared a kiss, one that Slater and Jessie had interrupted but it was for good enough reason.
The rest of the night seemed to go well. There was only one dance left and when she put her head on his shoulder, Zack could not help but pull her closer to him. "Kelly, this is how it always should be. It is how high school should end. I still…"
She looked up and into his eyes. "Yes Zack…"
Then people were interrupting them again. This time it was everyone and random talking about all sorts of things, how Slater and Jessie got locked in the boiler room, how Lisa had gone with Screech. Zack did not feel like being with everyone tonight. He wanted to spend time with Kelly. He did not' want the night to end. It was if, once it ended, they would go back to being not together, and that was not what he wanted.
"Kel, what do you want to do? I mean it is your night off. I was thinking, we could finish that conversation, alone?"
She smiled at him, and he was always speechless when she looked at him with those eyes and rendering Zack Morris speechless was not an easy task, by any means. "Sure Zack. My parents figured I was spending the night with Lisa tonight, so you could always just drop me off there later, if you want?"
Taking her hand, he glanced at Lisa and smiled. Lisa was watching them both suspiciously but told them she had it under control. Screech nudged Zack. "You know, you can sneak in by window when you are done dropping Kelly off. I will tell your parents that you fell asleep in the shower if they call."
They all kind of looked at each other but Zack was in too good of a mood to really argue. "My parents are out of town, remember? They will not be back until tomorrow. Everyone's welcome to sleep at my house if they want. I mean, the girls too. I am always good with the girls sleeping over. I know you all must make up some story. I mean, my parents do not care if it is Slater and Screech or really Jessie. They know that is harmless. With Kelly and Lisa, they are a bit more suspicious."
"That's because you have been with them both!"
Lisa groaned "Screech, thank you for pointing that out. It could be fun, even if Zack and Kelly are going to sneak off to be alone for a while.
