Chapter Text
Kara and Clark both tilted their heads to one side at the same time. They were listening for something that was only audible to super hearing.
Lois sighed and rolled her eyes.
"Here we go again." she muttered.
Clark shot her an apologetic grin. Lena hadn't been dating Kara long and she wasn't so used to these sudden interruptions. She looked at Kara uncertainly.
"Sorry." said Kara. She ripped open her blouse at the same time Clark pulled open his shirt both of them exposing the red S symbol on the costumes they wore under their street clothes.
"Up, up and away." called Clark cheerfully.
"Somewhere in the city a crime is happening!" shouted Kara.
The two kryptonians took to the air in a blur leaving Lois and Lena standing in the street.
They were both secretly relieved. The double date hadn't been going very well. Kara dating a Luthor made things a little awkward with Clark and Lois. The fact that many of the Daily Planets recent headlines had been about Lexcorp's shady dealings hadn't helped either.
"Somewhere in the city a crime is happening?" echoed Lois sarcastically.
"She got it from Robocop. It was Alex turn to pick the movie." explained Lena. She felt obligated to defend Kara even if she agreed her girlfriend's catchphrase game was weak.
Lois started to pick up Clarks discarded clothes. Lena did the same with Kara's.
"I keep thinking I should get her a rucksack." said Lena for something to say.
"I got Clark a satchel but he claims Darkseid obliterated it with an Omega beam. I think he just lost it."
"I'm still new to dating a superhero." Lena shook her head "Oh, that sounds ridiculous when I say it out loud doesn't it?"
Lois laughed.
"You get used to it. Just assume everything will get interrupted. Pro tip, get a list of excuses ready in advance for when they have to leave early. It's a pain although I never get tired of the.." she mimed ripping her shirt open.
Now Lena laughed.
"Has Clark ever forgotten..."
"His costume? Oh yes. Kara?"
"Twice."
"Laundry day."
Lena bent to pick up Kara's glasses. She peered through them.
"I cannot believe these fooled me."
"Clark fooled me for years and I'm an investigative journalist. It's context. You just aren't expecting to see Superman in the office drinking coffee so you don't."
"I know but I'm a scientist, I'm analytical and I was watching Kara closely."
"We all noticed."
"Oh god, was I that obvious?"
"To everyone except Kara."
Lena shook her head in embarrassment. Lois smiled sympathetically.
"You know I didn't ask Clark out for months because I had feelings for Superman." confessed Lois.
"I did the same with Kara! I felt so guilty because I kept having...I mean even when I was dating Kara and I didn't know and sometimes I'd have thoughts about Supergirl."
"Shower thoughts?"
"You are terrible but it's nice to meet someone who understands."
"Yeah. Secret identities suck but they're necessary."
"To protect the friends and family. Although with Kara and I it's hard to tell which of us has more enemies."
"You've both got friends too."
"I'm lucky."
Lois gazed up at the sky.
"We both are."
It was a surprisingly mushy sentiment for the hard-bitten journalist. She saw Lena's expression and shrugged. "I mean we could be dating Speed Centaur."
"I'm sorry who?"
"Speed Centaur. You haven't met him yet?"
"No." Lena wasn't sure if Lois was joking.
"Now that guy has the best disguise. Way better than glasses."
"Speed Centaur?"
"Yes."
"He's a superhero?"
"Yes. Works out of Nob Nose Mountain, friends with Jerry McCoy."
"I know I'm going to regret this but why is he called Speed Centaur?"
"Because he's a centaur and he's fast."
"A centaur? As in horses body, human torso? A literal centaur?!"
"Human up top fully equine down low, four legs, tail, the works."
"And he has a secret identity? How?!"
Lois grinned clearly enjoying telling the story.
"He has a fake horses head he wears on his upper body and he pretends to be a regular horse."
"You're making this up."
"No I've met him. Nice guy. Ask Kara."
"Speed Centaur?"
"I'm just saying being fooled by a pair of glasses isn't the worst thing."
Lena nodded as she folded Kara's khaki's.
"Dating a superhero centaur would have it's challenges."
"Rewards too." Lois wriggled her eyebrows in mock suggestiveness.
"Even if that was my thing that wouldn't be my thing."
"At least you'd be guaranteed a stable relationship."
Lena winced. They had started walking again and were soon standing outside the Ace of clubs.
It was a dockside dive bar in Metropolis but the owner Bibbo kept the place respectable. Anyone trying to deal or cause trouble was likely to find themselves swimming home with fewer teeth than they arrived with.
Lois checked her phone.
"Clark texted me, it's the league of assassin's. They could be a while. Ninjas gotta ninj I suppose."
"Shall we get a drink?"
You didn't reserve a table at a place like the Ace of clubs but Lois was a friend of Bibbo and friends of Bibbo always got a table.
Bibbo was a grizzled dock side brawler who'd gotten lucky on the lottery and bought the bar. He was a big fan of Superman and he glowered at Lena.
"Yous that Luthor dame." he said accusingly.
"She's okay Bibbo, she's dating Clarks sister." said Lois.
"If it makes you feel any better I shot my brother and put my mother in prison." said Lena.
"Hey yous alright fer a Luthor."
"Thanks."
"What yer drinking?"
"What wines do you have?"
"We got a red one, a yellowy one and we can mix em if ya want a pink one."
"Two beers." said Lois.
"Yeah but what's she drinking?" Bibbo laughed at his own joke as he went to get the order.
"Lois my shoes are sticking to the floor."
"It's a safety feature so the drunks don't fall over."
With a sigh Lena sat down.
"So Kara and Clark are up against the League. Those two against Ninjas shouldn't be much of a fight."
"Actually Clark hates this type of fight, lots of ninja. I mean Clark and Kara have got powers up the wazoo and the ninja can't really hurt them but they can't be everywhere at once either. If they're not careful some of the ninja might reach their target."
"Do we know who the target is?"
"Morgan Edge."
Lois gave Lena a calculating look.
"I didn't hire out a hit." protested Lena. "I'm not saying I'd be sad if a ninja got past them but it's not my doing."
"Sorry it's just..."
"I'm a Luthor I know. It's true I'm not as good a person as Kara but I'm trying."
"Well don't tell Clark I said this but I think it's a lot easier to be moral when you're invulnerable and have super powers."
"I'm really rich, does that count?"
"It means the beers are on you."
"In a place like this that feels like a very real prospect."
"It's not so bad."
"I want to order a pink wine just to see what happens."
"I've tried it. It comes in a beer glass. It's a lot. You have to ask yourself do you want to use the bathroom here?"
"I do not."
Lena shifted in her chair and peeled he pants legs from the sticky green vinyl.
"So is there anything else I should know about dating a Kryptonian?"
"They like snacks, Clark eats total junk but still looks like he was sculpted in the Renaissance."
"Kara's the same. I think she eats just for pleasure."
"I bet."
Lena reddened.
"I meant food, I think she lives on sunlight and just eats for fun."
"Like photosynthesis? We should ask Ivy."
"Poison Ivy?"
"She prefers Doctor Isley but yeah. She's okay if you catch her on a good day. Unbelievably Harley has been a calming influence."
"I bet no one has ever said that about Quinzel before."
"Probably not."
"What else do you need to know? Hmm... Clarks not above playing the alien card if he forgets something. 'On Krypton we don't celebrate anniversaries..'."
"Kara bought me a cupcake with a candle in it to celebrate our one month anniversary."
"That is disgustingly sweet."
"It was."
"At least tell me the sex is good."
"It's good."
"And you're using protection? Or are you trying for kids?"
"Uh, Lois we're both girls."
"But she's Kryptonian, you know about that thing right? The egg thing."
"Thing?! Egg?! No?! What?!"
Lois couldn't keep a straight face any longer. She burst out laughing.
"I'm sorry I couldn't resist."
"Oh you...."
"Hey Bibbo, pink wine for the lady." shouted Lois across the bar.
"Fifty fifty?" Bibbo shouted back.
"Seventy thirty."
"You got it."
Bibbo pulled two cartons of wine out from behind the bar and set up a 16oz glass. He poured carefully.
Lena stared at the tall glass of wine when it arrived.
"I'm not sure wine is supposed to have a head."
"It's how you know it's fresh."
"This is a lot of wine. Are you trying to get me drunk?"
"No offence but you're not my type. Strictly a man's lady apart from that time with Diana."
Lois saw Lena's look.
"Yeah, like you'd turn Wonder Woman down."
"Don't tell Kara." laughed Lena. She looked horrified then stared at her wine glass.
"I think I'm getting drunk from the fumes."
"But it's good with you and Kara?"
"Yes it's very good."
"It gets even better when they stop worrying about accidentally breaking you."
"So much that! Kara is constantly apologizing and asking if I'm alright."
"Yeah. It used to drive me mad with Clark. Eventually I just told him 'Clark I don't want to die but if it happens there are worse ways to go'. It's like any other relationship. You get used to each other."
"I was so nervous the first time."
"Did you know she was Supergirl then?"
"Yes, Kara and I had been dating but she wouldn't let things get physical until I knew who she was."
"What I'm hearing is that she revealed her secret identity because she was horny?"
"I hadn't looked at it that way before. Oh, I think you might be right, but that first time I was so worried, I mean she's an alien, what's she going to be like. How weird is this going to get?"
"I was the same with Clark."
"It wasn't that weird."
"Just..."
"Careful?"
"Yes!! You get it!"
They were laughing as Kara and Clark walked in. They had changed into regular clothes at their respective apartments.
"Sweetie you've got a shuriken in your hair." Lois said to Kara.
Kara picked the razor edged throwing star from her hair. It was notched from where her hair had damaged it.
"That would make a neat letter opener. Alex would love it." said Clark.
They sat.
"So what have you two been talking about?" asked Clark sounding slightly nervous.
"Speed Centaur."
"Oh he's so cool! I'll have to introduce you!" gushed Kara.
Lois gave Lena a 'told you so' look. Lena raised her glass in acknowledgement.
