Work Text:
Of all the many dangers he expected to deal with as a pro hero, Katsuki never thought that migraines caused by processing liability insurance paperwork would be something he had to contend with. Yet, here he was, glaring down at the stacks of forms on his desk with dry, bleary eyes. Oh, the joys of running your own hero agency.
Katsuki tossed his pen down with a groan and brought both hands up to his face, pressing the heels of his palms into his eyes. He sat there slouched over his desk, enjoying the brief respite of pressure and darkness on his aching eyes.
“Uh-oh, looks like you could use a pick-me-up. Guess I’ve got some pretty good timing, huh?” Katsuki shifted his left hand just enough to allow him to see TetsuTestu standing in the doorway, a steaming cup of something in his hand and a familiar toothy grin on his face.
“The hell are you doin’ here, Tin Man? Thought you were on shift today,” Katsuki grumbled. Tetsu snorted and sauntered further into the office.
“Red said you had a habit of getting lost in your work, but I didn’t think it’d be this bad. My shift ended about forty-five minutes ago. He said you were still here finishing up some filing, so I thought I’d get you something to help you out before I headed home.” Tetsu leaned down to set the steaming paper cup on the desk, standing close enough Katsuki could feel his breath on his neck. Katsuki turned, ready to hiss something snarky about not needing help, when a warm palm brushed his hair away from his face and the gentle touch of lips pressed into his forehead.
“Don’t run yourself too ragged, Firecracker,” Tetsu murmured before brushing his hand down Katsuki’s face and along his neck, ending in a gentle squeeze to his shoulder before he turned and left the office.
Katsuki sat there, eyes wide and mouth parted slightly in flustered silence. He could feel the heat rising in his cheeks and flaring at the tips of his ears as he stared at the now empty office doorway. This…wasn’t something he was used to yet. He and Eijirou had sat down months ago and talked about how they both felt about Tetsu and agreed to wanting him as their third, but they hadn’t extended the offer to the man in question until more recently. Tetsu, after confirming with both of them that they were serious, had accepted with gusto. It had been nearly three weeks since then, and Tetsu fit into their relationship as if there had always been a space for him there.
Getting physical affection from someone who wasn’t Eijirou was something Katsuki was still adjusting to, but he didn’t hate it. Tetsu also had the sort of brazen cocksure confidence that Eijirou, for all that he’s grown into himself, didn’t quite have. It made him much more bold in his willingness to just…take what he wanted. Which meant that he had no problem getting into Katsuki’s personal space and giving him affection whenever he damn well pleased. It was exciting, in a way. Eijirou was his steady comfort, his rock in more than one sense. Tetsu was like an electric shock, a catalyst to whatever reaction he was trying to get out of Katsuki at the moment.
Katsuki snorted in resigned amusement at the fact that Tetsu had probably been trying to fluster him on purpose and had succeeded, the brat. Still smiling, he took a sip of the drink Tetsu had left for him and blinked in surprise at the taste. He pulls out his phone and types out a quick text.
?You got me a pumpkin spice latte
Yup
????
Don’t even try to pretend you don’t like it, Sweetheart.
We both know better.
Katsuki’s face scrunched into a flustered scowl at the pet name and sent a reply as he sipped his drink.
?And how the hell would you know that
I know damn well I’ve never ordered one in front of you
And Ei wouldn’t have said anything
Maybe not, but my nose works just fine.
It’s not exactly a subtle scent and you don’t get coffee often, so it stands out even more when you do.
And you mentioned a while back that you prefer oatmilk for your lattes, so that wasn’t a mystery either.
A bright, aching warmth bloomed in Katsuki’s chest and spread through his body like a fresh bruise as he stared down at his phone. It left him feeling breathless and shaky with a burn in his eyes that had nothing to do with paperwork. He knew logically that Tetsu cared about him. Katsuki knew that Tetsu wouldn't have agreed to join the relationship if he wasn’t serious about his feelings for both Eijirou and Katsuki, but sometimes it was hard to wrap his head around the fact that someone other than Eijirou cared enough about him to notice something as nonessential as his guilty pleasure coffee order. The fact that Tetsu not only noticed, but cared enough to keep it and use that knowledge to bring Katsuki something nice as a pick-me-up because paperwork is shitty was earth-shattering. Nevermind the fact that Tetsu remembered that Katsuki likes oat milk for his lattes months after the throwaway mention of it in an unrelated conversation when they crossed paths on a patrol route.
Katsuki cradled the warm cup in his palms and let the realization that he now had two people in his life that cared about him enough to know his favorite things wash over him. When he felt a bit more settled he sent another message to Tetsu.
?Think you’re some kind of fucking detective now, Tin Man
Enjoy your latte, Firecracker <3
See you when you get home
Cheeky bastard. Katsuki set his phone down, leaned back in his chair, and enjoyed his latte.
