Work Text:
Stiles is unquestionably proud of Haunting Hunting, because even when they don’t get a lot of evidence they all have fun still. Their fans are amazing about everything, they love the honesty, the integrity that they make sure to have. Never wanting to fake evidence if they don’t find any, they will just tell the stories of other experiences over top of the footage to keep things as interesting as possible.
He refuses to allow anyone on the team to fake things, that’s not who they are. Which is why his heart nearly stops when he, Mason and the owner of the house, Danny, get locked into a room together. They separate, checking any entrance or exit to the room, ignoring the fact that it’s genuinely terrifying that they don’t know how this happened. Honestly he can feel it in his bones that they aren’t going to easily find a way out of here.
Nodding defeatedly to himself when he can’t open the door or window he ran for, he walks back over to his camera that he set on the table in his rush. Going back through the footage in hopes of finding some kind of hint of what exactly happened. Or to find a way to get them out of here if he can’t find how it happened. Almost disappointed when he finds nothing in the footage to help them out of here.
“Sti… I think you might want to see this…” Mason calls out, drawing the other two to the younger man, walking to meet him.
“Oh you’ve got to be fucking kidding me?!” he says frustration lacing his tone despite himself, ignoring the embarrassment trying to overcome the frustration as best he can.
“Ummm… What does that mean to the two of you that I don’t understand?” Danny asks concernedly, not understanding what the note could mean, seeming like nonsense to him, but clearly not to the other two men.
Both he and Mason blush and look anywhere other than at the other two in the room. Neither of them wanted to admit what the note means, too embarrassed to say that the ghost is trying to play matchmaker. How would he even explain it without completely embarrassing himself?
“Guys, what is it? What the fuck is going on?!” Danny asks again more firmly, not allowing them to ignore him or the question.
“To put it simply, the ghost is seemingly trying to play matchmaker… That’s essentially what the note is saying…” he answers quietly, knowing that he can’t avoid it forever even if he wanted to, he owes Danny the truth.
“It’s playing matchmaker? … Wait… So you’re saying that this ghost locked the three of us in here to get us together? Like a childish weird version of seven minutes in heaven? I don’t get it, but alright I guess.” Danny responds confusedly, making both other men flinch despite themselves.
Making eye contact with Mason, he shrugs slightly before nodding in response to the raised eyebrow he gets from Mason. He knew the second Mason also flinched that they were on the same page. Though clearly not all three of them, given the confusion in the other man, so they’re going to have to barter their way out probably. Or find a way out that the ghost hadn’t thought about… Steeling themselves they start to walk away to check again.
“Wait. I… No, I didn’t mean…” Danny starts, but cuts himself off, unsure if he’s reading things right or if he’s merely seeing what he wants to.
“Hey, no worries, dude. We don’t take offense. Let’s just try to find a way out of here.” he responds distantly, trying not to show the fact that he is actually upset and disappointed that they’re not all on the same page like he had hoped.
“No. Wait. Just. Are you guys interested in me? Is that why you guys are reacting this way? Or am I reading too much into this?” Danny pushes the topic, not allowing either of the other men to avoid this, needing to know.
“Fuck… Okay fine. Yes, yes and no.” he answers truthfully, despite how much he’d like to avoid this conversation.
“Okay, so… I’m interested as well. I didn’t mean it like I wasn’t interested, I just meant that it was weird that the ghost decided to play matchmaker for the first time with us. No one else has ever said something like this has happened to them, so it’s just strange.” Danny explains himself, not wanting the misunderstanding to stand any longer.
“Oh… So… We’re all on the same page then?” he asks, pausing to look at the other two, who nod easily, leaving him to continue, “Good, very good. Because I am very interested in the two of you and would very much like to see where this could go. As long as you guys do too…” he finishes, a mixture of hopeful and anxious.
“You know I do, I’m more than willing to give this a shot.” Mason answers honestly, chuckling slightly, thinking about the fact that he’s tried to convince Stiles to take the risk for almost a year now, unbothered that it took a ghost and third to get the older man to give them a shot.
“I would like to see where this could go. I may have had a crush on you when we were in school together, Stiles. And I’ve had a crush on both of you since I saw your first episode of Haunting Hunting.” Danny confesses, chuckling lightly at his own candor, unsure why he was so honest, but unashamed of it.
“I had a crush on you back then too, even though it was before I was aware of my orientation, I wrote off how I felt about you as everyone has a crush on Danny, I’m merely human. Because let's be honest everyone really did have a crush on you.” he says, allowing the same honesty that Danny is, not wanting any of them to feel like they’re laying themselves out more than the others.
“Everyone truly did have a crush on you back then, like they talked about you even after you moved away. Hell my straight best friend even had a crush on you, like you were one of his idols. And Stiles and I have been building up to this for the last year.” Mason says honestly, chuckling at the memories of Liam practically waxing poetry about Danny’s body and skills on the field.
“Oh god, I remember that. Literally how I met Liam was him practically drooling after Danny. I don’t think I let him live that down for years.” he says, laughing at the memories, wondering how Liam will react.
“Wow, you guys are serious when you say everyone had a crush on me… Huh… I thought everyone was too obsessed with Jackson to think about me.” Danny responds distractedly, causing both men to step closer.
“You’re so cute. Baby, they weren’t staring at Jackson, well most of them weren’t. Even Jackson knew that everyone was obsessed with you.” he says affectionately, helpless to resist the pet name.
Danny cuts off any other response the other two might have had, pulling them towards him, leaving the two ghost hunters shocked. Tensing just for a moment before relaxing easily, naturally gravitating towards each other, sealing their new change in relationship. Trading affectionate kisses between themselves, enjoying each other, distracted, unaware, and uncaring of the door now opening.
“What the fuck, guys?! We were worried and you just decided it was time to make out?” Scott asks frustratedly, disappointed mom voice activated.
“I wish this could surprise me…” Jackson says tiredly, thinking how much he should have seen this coming, his best friend would, of course, have this happen.
The new partners share a look, chuckling, feeling unashamed of taking advantage of the moment the ghost gave them. Shrugging unapologetically, the three continue heedless to their audience, not caring about the judgment or disappointment. Enjoying their moment for however long they wish, willing to reshoot completely if they have to. Ignoring the two annoyed men, they just allow themselves to feel the passion between them.
