Chapter Text

They left. He left. It was groundbreaking, earth shattering. He had broken her heart into a million tiny pieces and stabbed them deep within her soul. Edward had said he had loved her, told her she was his mate. And he had left her. The pain encompassed her, covering her in an ugly film of despair as she struggled through life itself. She ached, twitched, shuddered, and gagged with horrific intensity each and everyday afterwards. It felt like the worst sickness she had ever been through in her entire life. She had become a zombie of herself, one of the undead she had fallen for.

Bile rang in her throat each time she smelt something even slightly sweet. She had started breathing through her mouth, avoiding anything that she knew smelt like him. It had taken her weeks just to get to the point where she could hold the vomit down. She no longer jumped anytime she saw the slightest bit of red in someone's hair, or amber in their eyes. Her progress was slow, nearly non-existent in her eyes. She went to school, did nothing, went home, did nothing, and then did it all over again. Her grades plummeted, her social life went out the window, and her will to live ebbed away the longer she went without him.

So withdrawn and withered, she never once noticed the person that had joined Forks high. He noticed her though, the second he had walked within the school he couldn't take his eyes off of her. Even as ruffled and sad as she looked, he had never seen anyone more gorgeous in his life. His eyes watched her, tracked her every move. The more he saw, the more concerned he became.

How in Death’s name had a muggle teenage girl become addicted to a vampire?

The question rang in his head for hours as he sat within class. More and more concerned the longer he thought about it. If he didn't act on it soon, she could die. He grunts and hunches over, shuddering from the pain in his chest. He sighs, rubbing over his heart soothingly, just as he suspected, a soul bond. Looking up, he stares blankly at the chalkboard in front of him. He needed to do something or else an innocent girl could die, his soulmate could die.

Biting his lip, he fiddles with the necklace wrapped around his neck slowly. They were the only ones he could trust with this, the only ones that would help him save her. Sighing, he closes his eyes as he gathers his magic. Twining it around the elegant V pendant, he pushes the magic within it, smiling sadly as he feels it heat up against his chest. Gulping, he opens his eyes as a vibration answers.

Soon, soon they would come. Until then, he would have to do his best to ensure Bella Swan’s survival.

As the bell rang, he stood from his seat, determined to save her. Rushing to the bathroom, he ducks in a stall to cloak himself before leaving just as quickly as he came. Eyes darting back and forth, he sighs in relief as he sees her. Slumped and defeated, she staggers towards her red truck. Following her, he silently jumps into the bed of it and crouches down as she leaves.

Wind ruffling his hair, he grabs his wand and waves it at her, “ad inuestigandum salutem.”

Nodding as his spell sinks into her skin, he jumps out of the truck, rolling on the cement as he does. Exhaling in relief, he stands there for a long moment, he would know if she gave in. That, at least, gave him the confidence to allow her her privacy. The second he learned if she began hurting herself though, those privileges would be revoked. He respects his soulmate too much to invade her space, until she risks herself within it. Nodding in satisfaction, he disapperates back to his new home just a few miles away. Content to stay there and wait for the arrival of his old friends, his old family.
