Work Text:

Somewhere along the way of knowing Sydney, of loving Sydney, the hazel eyed woman has become the most important person in Laura’s life.

She cannot imagine living without her now.

Separating back to their respective cities after their Morocco trip was hard.

Leaving Syd for Frankfurt has always been tough for the striker but going back now, after she’s kissed the younger blonde, is a different level of difficult.

‘I love you.’ She whispers, leaning in to press a long kiss against her girlfriend’s lips.

The Bayern Munich player’s hands come up to rest against Laura’s waist.

‘I love you too. I’ll see you very soon. As soon as I can.’ She promises.

Sydney holds true to her word.

The first weekend that she has free, she takes the train up to Frankfurt.

‘I-I can stay with you right? I don’t have to get a hotel room?’ She tentatively checks with Laura during one of their nightly video calls.

‘Of course. I’m not sticking my girlfriend in some hotel when I can have her in my bed.’

Sydney laughs softly and Laura grins.

‘I can’t wait to see you. I miss you liebling.’

The term of endearment makes the Munich native blush and fervently wish the week would hurry up so that she can have her girlfriend in her arms again.

Syd’s been in the forward’s apartment before, how could she not visit her best friend?

But she had never spent the night or been there in her new capacity.

Though one would not know it by the way she's comfortably lying on Laura’s bed and scrolling through her phone aimlessly when the older blonde comes out of the bathroom.

The Eintracht Frankfurt player can’t help but soak in the moment, never once taking for granted the fact that Sydney Lohmann is her girlfriend.

She’s dressed in an old college hoodie, from Laura’s time at Penn State. The material is soft and well worn, the midfielder having stolen it out of her girlfriend’s closet to wear.

One of Syd’s legs is sticking out from under the covers because she says it gives her the perfect balance between being warm but not too warm.

It's an adorable habit of hers that Laura hadn't known about until they first shared a bed in Morocco.

She can’t help but move closer to the younger German woman and brush her fingers across the words tattooed on the back of that particular ankle.

‘You’ll never walk alone.’

Matching ones are inked onto the back of hers and the midfielder stops whatever she was doing on her phone in favour of giving her girlfriend a soft look with her hazel eyes.

Laura clearly remembers going to the tattoo studio with Lina, Sara and most importantly Syd.

She had been the one to suggest getting tattoos to remember their record breaking Euros tournament but the Munich native had been the one who suggested that the two of them get the same tattoo.

The striker couldn’t deny the appeal of it, especially when Syd had told her what she had in mind.

It might be well known as Liverpool’s song but it had played in almost every stadium they had been in. Good memories were made with it and it meant something.

The words itself meant something more.

If Laura had her way, Sydney would never walk alone.

Wanting to capture the moment, she had taken a photo of the younger blonde getting it done with her film camera.

Maybe for a little more of a selfish reason, she wants a tangible memory of Syd in her purple pullover and black jean shorts.

Especially when she takes the purple pullover off to reveal a grey cropped top.

Laura can’t help thinking she looks absolutely beautiful.

She hadn’t thought the midfielder could get anymore beautiful but as she looks at her now, the German forward knows with certainty that she has.

Gently touching the tattoo again, Laura whispers, ‘You know…I loved you already when we got these done. I’ve been in love with you for a long time Sydney and sometimes I still can’t believe that I get to call you mine.’

Syd lets out a surprised breath. She hadn’t known that the depth of her girlfriend’s feelings had run so deep for such an extended period of time.

‘That’s more than a year and a half ago mein schätzelein. Why didn’t you say anything then?’

Shyly, in a way she hasn’t been around the taller blonde in years, she murmurs, ‘Like I said, I can’t believe that you are mine. I can’t believe that you love me.’

The Bayern Munich player gets up, pulling Laura close to her.

‘Believe it. I love you. I love you. I love you. I’m yours to love. Just like you are mine to love.’

She kisses the striker as ardently as she can, wanting her to feel every ounce of emotion that she possesses for her.

Every measure of adoration and love that she’s harboured and kept secret for years. That she can now show openly.

‘Believe me.’ She promises.

Laura lets Sydney draw her even nearer and tuck her head under her chin.

Her girlfriend’s meaningful words and reverent touch leaves her no doubts. The striker won’t let her insecurities make her question their relationship again.

‘I believe you.’ Laura breathes and looks up at Syd who can’t help the way her heart skips a beat.

Because the shorter blonde holds such tender affection in her gaze and the midfielder knows it is all for her.

All of Laura’s love is for her. Just like all of her love is for Laura.
