“It’s because I left Japan to train volleyball somewhere else!” Shoyo explained brightly.

“I was going to have Shoyo on my stream earlier but when he first moved abroad he was way busier.”
“I have some more free time now though!” Shoyo sounded very happy about that. “Besides, just a year more and I’ll be home!”

“One more week, yeah?” Shoyo said into the phone tucked under his chin as he stirred some curry on the stove.
“One more week.” Kenma confirmed.
“I’m going to give you the biggest hug ever when I see you.” Shoyo said seriously.
“Of course you are.”
“I’m gonna be clingy too.” The ginger warned.
“Me too,” Kenma shrugged. “I’m taking advantage of this. I won’t see you for another year after this.”
“Don’t even remind me.” Shoyo huffed.
“This was your decision.”
“It’ll pay off.”
“I know it will.”
Kenma and Shoyo had been together since Shoyo’s second year and Kenma’s third. No one was truly surprised they got together, considering how comfortable they had both been with the other since they first met. It was only a matter of time, Kuroo had said.
Shoyo was the one who confessed, right after Nekoma was eliminated in the second round of the Spring Tournament in Kenma’s third year, his last Nationals ever. The short orange-haired boy had sought him around right after Karasuno’s match ended and practically word-vomited, spouting praises and declaring his love so brazenly until Kenma, flustered and flushed red from his cheeks to the tips of his ears, kissed him silent.
Safe to say, they were pretty insufferable after that.
Kenma never failed to hoard it over Kuroo’s head that he’d gotten a significant other before he ever did and Shoyo did the same to Tsukishima and Kageyama, although the latter’s taunts did nothing but spark a flame in the blond middle blocker and he ended up confessing to Yamaguchi soon after, so Shoyo’s only victim remained his dark haired volleyball partner and setter.
When Shoyo said he wanted to learn beach volleyball in Rio, Kenma was nothing short of supportive, even offering to sponsor him which Shoyo was hesitant about in the beginning but once Kenma had his company set up and was raking in money both from that and from streaming, he couldn’t say no.
The past year hadn’t been easy on either of them but on Shoyo most of all, considering he was halfway across the world in a foreign country on his own. He had no friends in the beginning and he barely spoke Portuguese, and he was so so alone. But things got easier; he made friends, he got to know his flatmate, Pedro, and he learnt to speak the language.
Things got better.
But he still missed Kenma.
